  • This is so fukin confusing all of this just want to play a game on ma ps3 bt cant coz of my shitey internet. How do u delete data on the hhd? Thts all I wantae kno .

  • Don't plug your HDD into a PC. Did this last night - the ps3 no longer reads the HDD - I believe this is linked to the MBR being affected.

Captain Hindsight would have been a delight to have a alongside. Put the HDD in the PC because have had the YLOD and didn't think I could get it to start due to the fact I had fixed the machine once before. Killer was when I got it started again. BE WARNED.

  • Yeah. So why don't you show us what to do next??? What is the fricking point of this video??? No point at all!!! We all know how to take an Hdd out of a ps3 lol!!!

  • i had over 6k hours on white knight chronicles when i had this problem.... ive been going threw everyresource to get my hdd recovered and no luck at all

  • hey buddy i need part 2

  • i thought my files are lost forever. i can't thank you enough dude.

  • The reality is the only way to get the data off your HDD is to get it fixed with out it. If you only have a lets say. 40gb hdd and no other hdd then your kinda screwed. BUT if you upgraded your drive, before you send in your PS3, take out your hdd and put in the old one. With hope, sony will just fix your PS3 (NOT replace it) and you can put back in your old hdd and back up your goodies.

  • @EDMIX But does this work though.. My problem is, that i have the YLOD and i have an 80HDD drive, with alot of stuff on it. If i was to buy a new 80gig ps3, and just swap the HDD'S would that work,... surley it would...

  • lol yeah just throw it around im sure that will recover the data you idiot !

  • yup its impossible to recover the date coz windows won't read the ps-formatted data...i've been trying to recover my saves, but still no luck :'(

  • extra data from ps3 hard drive.. use hard drive to create new format on ps3.. extract the data from that hard drive. copy over data to hard drive and play it on ps3

you gotta match the binary files though so you get the right file types in the same spot

  • what I did was I used my PSP which has a 4gd memory stick to back up all my saved files, then I switched the new hard drive and all I had to do was put the saves from the PSP onto the new HDD and reinstall the game data from the discs. This way I was even able to keep my memory card saves from ps1 and ps2

  • Hi Bud, I like your enthusiasm but the cable thing does not work! i have a load of data stuck on my upgraded 400gb PS3 harddrive and im waiting for some genius to make a hack.

It seems that all ps3 drives are encoded to work solely with the console it was formatted in. If you put them in a different console it will demand a reformat. Neither windows nor linux can access the drive. Why why why did sony do this! If anyone has a get around for this let me know - i need my gtaIV save games back!!

  • Dude, you really shouldn't get people's hopes up like this.

It is impossible to recover the data off the drive, at least for now. Very sad.

  • Why not try a linux live distro like sabayon a powerhouse of a OS iaincampbell is right i lost saves when i put a 250gb hdd in my 60gb that wasn't a problem though i'll just play them again but i'm asked by my brother in law to recover all their data as it is an archive unit with lots of vids and pics of their newborn i will use this method as i have recovered MANY hard drives using this method sabayon understands many formats and whats more its free! as all linux distros are.hope this helps?

  • thanks m8

  • look mabe a video on how to do a simple hdd swap in both hdd and a ps3 have the same firmware on the mine however did and i pout alot of money into this project iv rebulit my old ps3 with parts iv bought am 14 so its expensive for me. i have had soom sucess at the nand downloading , i have followed the instuctions and been tryin to find ways the ps3 saves data

  • Fraz can you actually get the Data off?

is there giong to be a part 2?

  • PlayStation 3

  • well i dont live in the us but i bought mine froma computer shop. Bestbuy pros your bets bet hun . part 2 is waiting for the nad dumper to be full working at to dump a ps3 hdd

  • Hey you dont know if i can buy this SATA cable in Walmalt, Best buy,Sams or some places like that????

  • you have to get the ps3 file reader for it you simple download it plug the hdd into the ps3 ( through the hdd part) it thinks its the 2.42 updator and skips it so you dont have to format

  • ohh thanks man !!!!!!! :):)

  • Attaching the ps3 HDD to a pc running windows XP or Vista using a usb cable makes the HDD unreadable by both the PC and your ps3 because windows automatically rewrites the master boot record do not do this!!

  • What it messes it up? I just want my info off!!

  • Yes data MUST be backed up before removing your HDD from the ps3 Do NOT connect your ps3 HDD to ANY system using windows.

I have heard a roumer you can recover ps3 data using an apple mac but i haven't researched this so cannot confirm and would advise you to resarch thouroughly before attaching the ps3 hdd to anything.

  • only if your ps3 has faulty connectors on hdd but it it burned the fan you cant

  • What the fuck are you on about with faulty connectors and burned fans your full of shit if your so confident of your recovery method then why haven't you made part 2? it's been over 2 months, show us all how you use windows xp to recover lost data???

I would love for you to remake this video take your HDD out of your ps3 without backing it up, put it in a SATA enclosure attach it to your PC using a USB cable then show everyone how windows doesn't even recognise the drive or anything on it.

  • If you didnt notice in the vid. our PS3s are "broken".That yellow light flashes after three seconds and the system shuts off.All i want is my save games. I might take it to a computer store and have them back up the data but i just want some of the info so it can be switched to another PS3 later.

  • I did notice you both had broken PS3s yes the part i take exception to is where he tells you to get a SATA cable and attach it to your PC via USB. This is the part that WILL make your data UNRECOVERABLE due to the fact that sony uses a completely different operating system to Microsoft and the PS3 generates a master boot record that Windows cannot read so if you attach it to a PC running XP the first thing that happens is XP overwrites the MBR but cannot read any of the information on the HDD

  • So now what? you try putting the HDD into a working PS3 and what happens?

Cannot read HDD you will need to reformat.

Why because the HDD now has a MBR written for a microsoft operating system.

Trust me before i researched this i was stupid enough to remove my PS3 HDD put in in a SATA enclosure and attach it to my PC i lost everything because windows cannot read the information it doesn't even recognise that there is a drive there without going into the disc manager.

  • So in my opinion the reason why there is no part 2 is because at the moment no one has designed a program that will allow you to read the information from a PS3 formatted HDD on a PC running XP

  • Well, you seem smart, so how do i recover my info?

Besides i didnt get a sata usb cable. I got the encolsure so it knows its a hard drive i think.

  • If you have attached it to a machine running XP in the enclosure then you have lost all your info mate sorry you have overwritten the MBR

  • does it fix the yellow light??
