  • i just watched the movie i didn't know what it was like to be an Iranian until i saw this movie , this really deserves five stars and even more i give props to this movie not only does she try break from the normality of her country but to stand up for herself, her family and the freedom that they truly deserve ,but you know what they say freedom always comes with a PRICE!!

  • i've watch the movie at school during the "francaise lesson" and i love it.

  • I've seen the movie. Its beautiful!

  • ISLAM IS NOT A RACE.

  • Lol love it

    And Michael Jackson XD

  • This movie lost to Ratatouille?? Half of the world popluation hate rats! Tell me the oscars aren't rigged. In my eyes, Persepolis deserves that Oscar. Not the fucking rat.

  • simply nothing is true in this

but it may not be ur mistake

gust that pic some Muslims introduce

Islam is a religion not a human :)

  • @deekhari nothing in this movie is "made up". It's an autobiography.

  • this not true about islam....islam is freedom, but not freedom like human righter ask,coz we not animal, human must have human law, dont believe these all coz they make up this story to create misunderstanding about islam, make a study about islam,u'll see the truth.=)

  • @deekhari This movie concerns 'the Islamic regime of Iran', and not just 'Islam'. They are two whole different things. The movie displays the former very accurately; I can assure it has definitely told the truth about the Islamic Regime of Iran. There is no freedom to be spoken of. You do not need to do a study about this, going to Iran for one day will be enough to prove that.

  • @TooYaaay You are such an ignorant cunt,

I have viisted Iran 3 times already since 2003 last one was 3 months ago.

People say what they want to say, they do what they prefer whether its drinking and partying or learning more about Islam, Please STOP this BS about making IRAN seem like a hardcore Regime like N.Korea

seriously, you want to say shit like that, go to Iran and look fo yourself

    cunt

  • @Terminal2k1 Wow three times!!!!! I have been going to Iran more than 15 times each year,I am Iranian myself and I am currently writing a paper of 15000+ word which is about the Iranian Revolution.People say what they want and do what they want BUT THAT DOES NOT MEAN THE REGIME ALLOWS IT. There is no freedom of speech/press in Iran. You can get caught for drinking. Hell, if a boy and girl walk together, they can be caught. Women are forced to wear a headcloth. Where is the freedom in this?

    Ass.

  • @deekhari sorry, but this is a autobiographic story. And she made a critic for the fundamentalism applied in Iran, where you can not have freedom of opinion. For me, something like Islam can make you free if you choose it, not like an obrigation

  • Punk is not dead lol.

  • @BLACKSABBATH0HM

    Yes it is

  • Talking about this film and the graphic novel for school was probably the best school project ive ever had to do.

  • @sonicmaster987 we did watch the first ten minutes today and I had to watch the movie at home. It´s just overwhelming and beautiful

  • I've seen the movie and read the graphic novel, and this trailer made me cry!

  • I read the book. Good story.

  • interesting

  • @oMOHSEN8o and these countries are the icons of freedom

  • apo ta kalutera animation pou exw dei...axizei na to dei kapoios

  • I read the book and loved it. Now i want to watch the movie.

  • such a fantastic movie.

  • gourgeous film

  • whatever you think about what Iran was, and now is, this movie is the most beautiful and sensitive love declaration of a little girl to her grandmother. Never saw such a tender and wonderful tribute to the one who gave life to our mother....

  • This video is propaganda made by supporters of the tyranical monarcy of iran, a monarcy who btw makes the islamic republic look like angels. Iranians lived a nightmare under the shah, so no matter WHAT these propagandists say, it should be taking with a pinch of salt.

  • @YamaKazoo excuse me, have you even read the book? propaganda FOR the islamic republic? I guess that's why they all fled the country, right? I guess that's why my best friend and his family left the country in '81 to come to a free country where they could live their lives, right?

    sheesh...

this is one of the few things showing us the truth about the islamic bullshit - it's doing it's thing realistically

  • MICHAEL JACKSON?!

  • haha Michael Jackson?

  • Ive seen way better animations than this

  • @rhombusskullvsteal Cool story.

  • @DancingTableLeg what? the movie or me?

  • Thumbs up if you think this is one of the works of animation you have seen.

  • MICHAEL JACKSON!! :O

  • 1:00 MICHEAL JACKSON?!

  • C'est de la pure propagande pour démonizer la société iranienne.

  • @almuntazhar it doesn't demonize the iranian society in anyway shape or form

  • I Remember watching this movie 2 years ago on film 4, can't help but feel strong sympathy for her. Amazing movie!

  • Comment removed

  • the comics were amazing to read, and the movie did them justice

  • @oMOHSEN8o you can get it with subtitles

  • MICHAEL JACKSON FTW!!

  • What did democracy bring to Iran you ask ???? Sadaam hussein

  • @YamaKazoo oh dear, wrong country

  • @tcummin no, right country. You just dont understand the remake.

  • @YamaKazoo You can't be serious. Saddam Hussein was the dictator of IRAQ not Iran.

  • @DancingTableLeg really ??? no wayyyyy. Your the second person the reply with this same thing. 1, was saddams iraq a democracy ??? no. 2. Who spreads democracy all over the world ? america. 3, who backed (with chemical weapons) saddam to attack iran ? america. Does it make any sense now ? So what did democracy bring to iran ? an 8 year war full of chemical weapons and 1 million casualties

  • @YamaKazoo "who pretends to spread democracy" i should have said.

  • @YamaKazoo "america spreads democracy all over the world" ??? HA ! HA ! HA ! sure the best joke of the year !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! just have a look of what happens in arabia actually, and note how much USA put this upfront ! and how much they worked for it ! and what happened everywhere USA put its hands (pinochet, ben laden, only for the most known, and so on....) For God sake, please american people, WAKE UP !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @crucarmen i was making a point. Its what they claim, i think from my comment you should have got the picture.

  • @YamaKazoo yes I should, I was so surprised by the spread of liberty that I did not go to the end, which was stupid I recognize :) sometimes a simple forgotten word in a sentence change so much the meaning :)

  • @crucarmen cant understand a god damn thing you're writing... back to school, if you want us to understand you.

  • @filmationlibrary maybe because it is not full of bad words ? did you watch the movie ? didn't you see the message of love from M. Satrapi to her grandmother at the very end ? and about a "free" country, where do you live ?

  • @Fattybombom1000 Why do you feel this way? Did the movie insult you in a way? But why?

  • la veria una y otra vez *0*

  • @oMOHSEN8o

Chiisme is part of islam, like catholicism is part of christianism. The official name of Iran is "Islamic republic of Iran".

  • de la merde

  • c la pire anime de merde que je n'ai jamais vue

  • This was a great graphic novel, and a great movie adaptation. Something every teenage girl should watch. And everyone else, too.

  • is there a difference between the English and French versions?

  • it was on swedish television last night. I LOVED it!

  • I wanted to see this very badly when it came out. Scheduling got in the way alas.

  • Vaya que es lindo Iran, jajajjajaj. Vaya el islam es muy pacifico.

  • @corruptosrojos Si, poor supuesto, como Mexico, Colombia y El SAvador, mui pacifico pueblo...

  • i watched this film 2 years ago.this is an epic!

  • @KESYOGANUON yea it stucks in your mind

  • @raffa0001 yeah it stucks forever

  • i like the part where shes looking for a cassette tape on the streets.very funny!rock rules marjane hehe!

  • this was an amazing movie.. i had no idea before about all this!

  • love it

  • The books are stunning...

  • Its a pain in the ass to read small white subtitles in a black n white cartoon...

  • @Flashlight1996 There's an English voiced version, which is very good.

  • Iran and france come out with such beautiful films. I mean, Wow.

    And Satrapi. she is awesome.

P.S. This is by no means a generalization. I love films from other countries. I am neither Iranian nor French. [:)]

    I love good films.

  • @jesuisunearbre Just France. This movie didn't come out of Iran.

  • if your a fan of this movie watch waltz with bashir!!

its the story of a man who fought in the Lebanese war

  • One question

Why are the nuns slapping their nipples? e_o

  • @Scythe785 no one was slapping no nipples..

  • @Scythe785 They were beating their chests in honor of the martyrs of war. And they aren't nuns, they're school girls, that was when they were first required to wear the veil in Iran.

I think that's the part you're thinking of? Sorry if I'm mistaken. Hope that clears things up. =3

  • I love the book.

  • MICHEAL JACKSON!

  • i wish every political dumbass can watch this video, because i'm getting kind of pissed at the fact that everybody thinks that all the countries in the middle east are the same and that they bombed us. its fucking disgusting!

  • @HelloNewYorkCity only americans think like that, lol

  • @HelloNewYorkCity I agree. I can sort of relate to the middle east people. My relatives are Vietnamese, yet people hate them and say they killed Americans, even though not all of them were bad. In fact my relatives were fleeing from their country because the enemy Vietnamese were assaulting them.

It infuriates me to no end when people lump together a country's people just because a portion of them are evil.

  • IRAN IS PERSIAN, THEY ARE NOT ARABS AS KISH LOCALS CLAIM, I LIVED FOR QUITE SOMETIME IN KISH WHEN I CHANGED VISA WHILE WORKING IN DUBAI, UAE, IT'S A COUPLE OF MINUTES FLIGHT WITH A DILAPIDATED RUSSIAN AIRCRAFT, BUT WE STILL LANDED SAFELY, KUDOS TO RUSSIAN EXPERT PILOT! VIVA IRAN! FROM FILIPINO OFW 1999-2009 DUBAI-SHARJAH, UAE

  • @SulyapSaKasaysayan Caps lock fail.

  • Poor Iran :/ Fucking islam ruining that beautiful country....

  • @Skitzobilly I dont think thats the point marjane was trying to get across...

  • i like don't get how this didn't win? So good!!

  • This teaser seems incredible, I want to know where to find this! Can someone tell me?

  • @FinishLIneDream Netflix baby!

  • this movie was absolutely fantastic

didnt know what to expect at the start

& never heard of it before

    bt saw it on prime

& it was just simply fantastic

such a real & great story

  • was it the movie first the the comic or the other way around?

  • @IFeelLikeTakosauc Marjane Satrapi wrote a 4 pieces comic series about her life. its a insightful and very moving story. the movie came years later.

if ppl dont like this one ... in my eyes they have no soul.

  • dude i have wanted to see this for like a year D: i only keep getting bits and pieces

  • Oh...My...God... I have to see this film

  • i love this film :D

  • I want to see this so bad!

  • I may not understand story anything but I gave 4. and the reason is animate work

  • nice

  • <3 This is one of my favourite animations

  • I feel the book is much more interesting, book is having so much of interesting elements which has not been covered in the movie .But i liked the movie as well

  • Michael Jackson ¡¡¡¡ aaaaaaaaaaaaa bkn ¡¡¡ k mal k no la dejaron usar su estampa.

  • Best film i have ever saw, next to precious,.

  • that movie looks good

  • I loved this movie!

  • I love this film and I love Iran. :) In fact, this country made me love Iran even more, it made me sympathise. Before watching this film, I was just as ignorant as most people, thinking Iran and Iraq and the Middle East were all the same, but I now see that Iran has it's own identity. I hope the protesters in Iran accomplish what they've set out to do!

  • @Stupoider I'm right with you there! And don't you just laugh when people pronounce the two countries names wrong? Just proof that some people are too lazy to learn.

  • @Stupoider read jared cohens children of jihald its pretty amazing if you like this you'll love this

  • Love that movie!

  • how is a memoir of a woman's life the "biggest lie ever"?

  • @kayjanae100 Noob

  • Fantástico o filme!

  • Lloré demasiado durante la película y cuando acabó también

  • if you look at the video response i uploaded the film

  • "MICHAEL JACKSON!?!"

    ^0^

  • Is there a problem with one culture appreciating another? I'm an American, but I see the virtues of Iranian culture. Personally, I'm against the proposed idea of a US invasion f Iran. But back to the point. it's not wrong for an idividual to want to be a part of another culture, or "assimilating". As long as a person retains their own individuality, it's alright. Besides, all the maker's doing is expressing a turmoil-filled possibility that every nation faces. Not of islam in particular, but of

  • every oppressive nature that man could have. She merely chose a medium that she understood.

  • too much sand in your vag?

  • With all due respect, have you seen this film? I only ask because Marjane is fiercely proud of her heritage and it shows throughout the documentary. It certainly opened my eyes to just how bigoted my view of Iranians was. Her only objection is to the regime change she witnessed. As for her assimilating, it is one of the main themes in the film that she tries and fails to do so, which makes her eventual expatriation all the more difficult. I urge you to see or review this film before commenting.

  • I don't want to e-argue with you but I would point out a few things. 1st, Marjane is French now. Thats what it means to expatriate, to become a member of another country. 2nd, the film and the book are her experiences. Yes, one could generalize this and say its the common way life is lived in Iran but, an INTELLIGENT person would realize that its a deeply personal journey she is sharing with us. And finally, please do not insult me by telling me what conclusions I took from this beautiful film.

  • @nazbites

If you're such an apple-polisher for the Iranian government how come you live in the godless USA?

  • I'm not muslim, correct. but I have many muslim friends. my father is a worshiper of Allah. I'm atheist myself, with I take as an advantage that lets me view all religions equally. I have read the Torha, the Kuran, and the Bible. I'm not going to claim to know all about your religion, because that would be arrogant. But I have some understanding of the three religions. I didn't see any degrading, but it's perhaps becuase we viewed this on different terms.

  • lol i know u probs wont because it would take for ever but plzzzz turn the whole book into a movie :D

  • lol

  • I liked the book very much, I just dont like her.

  • very touching animated film. lovelovelovee it <3

  • I loved this movie, but is a true history???

  • Yes, it's based on an autobiography that happened to be a graphic novel. Read it. It's a great book. Actually, there's two, but there is a book that has both of them together.

  • yes. its like an autobiography

  • yes its based on her life(Marjane Satrapi)

  • If you like this film watch "waltz with bashir", its just as good.

  • I quite liked that film! My grandfather watched this one, he said it was totally stunning, I will probably get round to watchin' it some day.

  • Loved this movie :D

  • looks wonderful!

  • Because the film was made and produced in France

  • an amazing film. 10 out of 10.

  • persepolis: City of persians.

  • this is quite possibly the best foreign animated film of all time, you should watch it

  • if your from america and think of animated, you think japan.

  • my favourite animated film :)

  • me encanto el mensaje es maravilloso y es muy buena,,,,, me rindo a sus pies i love

  • Just saw it for the third time. Amazing stuff, especially when you don't need to read the subtitles! Learning french is worth it just for this movie.

  • this is a great film

saw this at like 1 in the morning on sunday :D

  • No, meestryal; germanicus does know what he's talking about, but he thinks that he has a Truth so important that he may and must lie to protect it.

  • I LOVE IT

  • it looked like a movie!

  • What are you, retarded?

  • I'm iranian and i like it! it's truly reality !

  • You obviously don't know what you're talking about

  • First, anyone could say thay've been to Iran and all, that doesn't make it true, we're on the internet...

Second, there are obviously people who, like you, claimed that they've been in Iran and still don't say quite the same... And finally, the movi is great and doesn't really attack anyone, it's just a piece of life someone shared with us...
