With all due respect, have you seen this film? I only ask because Marjane is fiercely proud of her heritage and it shows throughout the documentary. It certainly opened my eyes to just how bigoted my view of Iranians was. Her only objection is to the regime change she witnessed. As for her assimilating, it is one of the main themes in the film that she tries and fails to do so, which makes her eventual expatriation all the more difficult. I urge you to see or review this film before commenting.

Thats what it means to expatriate, to become a member of another country. 2nd, the film and the book are her experiences. Yes, one could generalize this and say its the common way life is lived in Iran but, an INTELLIGENT person would realize that its a deeply personal journey she is sharing with us.
