IN THE UNITED STATES, BY LAW, any person, whether they are rich or poor, whether they have insurance or they do NOT have insurance, MUST be treated in ANY emergency room. The US has the best health care system in the world. Adding government to it will lead to rationing, less research and development, and waiting lists for any surgeries.

Socialized health care is consistently a disaster regardless of the country, and only economic illiterates defend it. When a service is perceived as "free," more of that service is used. Where more of a service is used, costs rise, and the government must respond by lowering the number of doctors, nurses, and technicians it hires. Less equipment is purchased; less research is conducted.

- If the husband of the lady paid a lot of taxes, is because he earned a lot of money. Taxes in Italy are related to the income;

- If you have to pass a day in the hospital to vaccinate a kid, you are PAID if you take a personal day from work;

- If you go to a private doctor, and have to pay, you can discharge the payment from taxes;

- Even who can't pay taxes (ex. unemployed, unable to work) is still covered;

First we have free health care, a really good health care because in fact according to WHO is the second best in the world!!

Second our life expectancy is 77.5 (male) 83.5 (female), and if we compeare it to USA (75.6m-80.8f), you'll understand that we live longer and better!!!

I make it even simplier for you: we have 64% of fiscal pressure on what we earn with work for social services such as public trasportation, health care etc. What "stranger" is paying the bill for an italian tax payer? The difference is that once you pay your annual tax, if you are trated in a public hospital you don't have to pay anything else.

That was a report from 2000 that was widely discredited because it relied on government statistics. WHO was also distortive in the categories in which it claims countries performed well since it includes Universal coverage, doctor-patient ratio etc, which is irrelevant to the crux of the issue.

Having visited Italy countless times and suffering a ski accident there I can tell you that the hospitals are atrocious, but I'll concede that's anecdotal
