I thinks it cool to come up with new ideas but this seems a bit much, How much heat do those lights dissipate, you do not need to say direction and velocity in your video, velocity is speed with a direction, or a vector. I remember when one of the networks had a digital trail on the puck and it was not well received. kudos for the presentation and concept but maybe back to the drawing board.
definitely would suck for the player, and most real hockey fans. way too distracting...
also lets not forget how awful the ESPN puck tracking blob thing was...
now, you could potentially take a similar idea, without the visible lamp, and you could then track the puck better for replay and review...you could then see if there was a goal, even if you don't have sight of the puck.
the only benefit I see of your proposed idea is the advertisement perspective...but only if it wasn't distracting
Thats retarted. you people need to stop trying to make the game too technical. People can see the puck when its going at the speed ur lights can. the games the fastest game you can play and if its too fast for you watch football. your lights wont be able to track a one time going 90+ topshelf.
this is the stupidest fucking idea ive ever heard of. i cant think of a more pointless idea. why the hell would i want to see a fucking yellow tail behind the puck?
That would be great for the spectator...but it would be a disadvantage for the players, cause you could see where the puck is because the ice would light up. Well I guess it would be an advantage for the goalie.
Now that I think of it, I guess if the puck was moving in the air, then the light system wouldn't work.
what dumbshit can't follow the puck? you see where its going, and if a persons in the way, its going the same way, if it doesnt pop up, hes cradling it, DURR
Nice idea, but I reckon it'd be too expensive and how's it gonna work with airbourne pucks?
Not only that, when the puck changes direction, i.e a one touch pass, it's gonna run over the same tiles. Not so sure that wouldn't look confusing. We do need to make the puck more visible though. I play at a high level, but I have difficulty following the puck sometimes on t.v. I can understand why some people wouldn't watch hockey if they can't follow the puck
This is like FoxTax, but worse because it's unavoidable...even in person. Plus, the archives of every game would have these stupid lights as well.
Ofcourse at first, people have trouble with keeping track of the puck...but after watching a couple games it's easy to see where it is, you don't even have to think about it after a while.
Just horrible, pucks are shot in the air, little kids playing hockey, slide the puck on the ice, in the NHL and in competive hockey players shoot the puck in the air. It would be too expensive also. Also it would be annoying to the players, fans and referees, and what happens when lights burn out, or other teams have the technologoy to screw the lights up? The game is just fine, it needs nothing more.
This is the stupidest fucking idea in the world. Ok for 1 that would be the most annoying thing in the entire world. 2 you obviously dont know anything about hockey. 3 it's just stupid, fox has already done it, and it was the stupidest fucking idea in the world, next to bettman of course, and there is already a scoreboard, we dont need one on the ice.
ok lady do you even play hockey becasue if you did then you would know that half the hockey shots in a game are in the air and no one that is playing hockey would like a yellow light below them...the "invention" is just stupid!!!!!!!!!!!!
in theory it would be cool and could possibly increase the fan base and excitement level of the game witch that would be awsum, but it also means a huge investment for the rink on top of keeping water frozen costs...... and what about lifted pucks?
It still wont help you to see the puck, only where it has been. A hockey fan will usually know where the puck is going anyway. I would find those lights distracting and I'm sure the players would as well.
what if the players take a wrist shot or something, and the puck loses contact with the ice? and putting a chip in the puck would be modifying it. changes it's weight. not by much, but to a true hockey player, you can feel the difference. love the idea though. I agree with aveman07. shouldn't be implemented in the NHL right away.
although i think this idea is very creative and actually pretty cool, i do not believe it should be implemented. At least not in the NHL. I would like to see it in another league or event such as the Olympics or World Championships before it makes a transition to the NHL. It has a lot of potential but still, I can definitely see this idea being really really lame and stupid.
if you really like hockey you should be able to see the puck because you should be used to its speed, and if you cant see the puck you are not a real hockey fan!
i Think that is a really interesting idea. I never can´t see the puck and for that reason the hockey is boring for me.
With this you would see the puck trajectory, and interesting efects including a replay video on the ice if this system is made as a large screen below the ice. Is great for a show.
This is a stupid idea, Lights would ruin the game while watching, not only that if you cant see it the first time, they have replays, which i would rather watch WITHOUT lights.

dumb idea, to distracting to the players and goalie
noanglejustdangle34 1 year ago
This idea is as dumb as the wanted to put a flame around the puck for TV. Its not going to take off for a few reasons:
Yeah sure the LED's last for about 11 years but once those 11 years hit, it would be a pain to replace
The puck is now more noticeable to a goalie
Im sorry, but this idea is really dumb

es una buena idea, el problema es cuando el puck este en el aire, y que la linea amarilla no distraiga a los jugadores.

No way, the Fox Puck was a dumb idea. and this seems like another Fox puck.
If you want to add a glow to a sport, do it to golf, that is impossible to watch, because you lose sight of the ball 100% of the time on drives.
