I did the community college. 2010-2012 at Mott Community College...I graduate in May of this year with my Associates degree....then I'll be transferring to U OF M Flint for my bachelors degree...but good thing my field of sociology coincides with Political science, Criminal justice, history and or soc so I can receive up to 4 bachelors in one time. So I am probably gonna have at least 2 bachelor degrees.
I didn't go to college, but I was miserable to past few years with a 7.25/hr job.....in about 3.5 years i was up to 8.50....sad. I ended up getting let go in jan 2011 and couldnt get unemployment. Was unemployed till july and lucked out with a job starting at 11.75 making automatic doors. I am now up to 12.25 and soon to get another raise and i've only been there 7months! Oh and I actually enjoy this job.
You really can't teach critical thinking... most of these people graduate with skills that are actually worse than when they went in. College robs you of your critical thinking, assimilation is the main goal of most of these institutions.
Newt Gingrich actually has the best plan to fix colleges. Return to the old system where students worked at the college & to get a tuition cut. The end the whole Student Loan industry. The only reason tuition has risen, is because the colleges know that students will get a loan, no matter how much it costs. Then the college gets the money & the student gets the debt. End the ability for us to pay high tuition & the price will automatically drop to an affordable price.
Virtually everything at Walmart is made in China. If you bring half of those production jobs back to the U.S., they will instantly repair the U.S. economy. A U.S. company getting stuff made in another country & shipping it back the the U.S. to sell it, isn't trade. Trade is when one country makes something & they trade the final product to another country in exchange for another good. Outsourcing is nothing but a Corporate scam, thanks to the WTO.
I graduated with a Associates of Science in Visual Communications. 2 months after graduation "career serivces (the worst bunch of people)" in my school "landed" me an interview for a 10$ an hour job working in Photoshop, making packaging for their company. I was hired on as an independent contractor. The job was a waste of my time. I learned in 2 years what i could have learned in a month. Not kidding..I am unemployed and no one is looking at my resume. I've had 2 interviews. College = scam
honestly most people are feel that manual labor is beneath them. I graduated high school with the mentality that if i didnt go to college then i would be stuck in trades. Not saying that its bad but I it is my plan b.
1st of all Reginald, check out the raise in costs of going to a 4 yr college ( unless you go to NIU then it's 5 yrs), then look at the majority of those college degree's that are issued, are they something that is plausible for someone to even find a job in that field? What about trade schools? Many jobs out there are looking for people to do a trade, like mechanic, chef, cook, etc. Please do a vid on the cost of college.
The production capacity we do have is being used making things for the military and these wars. When the wars end our production jobs will be basically non-existent. That's probably one of the reasons why the presidents we get will never do anything to end the wars.
If you can finish your education with as little debt as possible, thats the important point. Getting a college degree is still worth the money and effort, just for the certification as well as mental discipline involved. But try not to go into debt. This guys got it right
In order to contribute to production, you need to know how to program robots, repair robots, and design automated assembly lines. This takes education.
Want to know why all of American jobs are no longer in production? Look no further than the Club of Rome and their agenda for the post industrial zero growth society. Dr John Coleman (MI5 - secret service) has exposed these evil bastards for what they are. A lot of what he says may be far fetched to many people but he speaks the truth. You have to research what he says to find out he is speaking the truth. Christopher Story fills in the blanks of the next level down implementing the plan.
@christo930 Yes i have read a report from the Club of Rome called The First Global Revolution. Most of it is very boring but if you persist in reading, they expose themselves here and there for the true power brokers they are behind the scenes. As far as they are concerned living flesh and blood people are the worlds problem and nothing short of a major cull and move into the post industrial zero growth society can save the world from mankind. They are totally luciferian and worship the earth.
@Seanyboyh I am talking about "The Limits to Growth" and "Beyond the Limits" and I forget the name of the one from the early 2ks. If you care to look, there are signs of overshoot everywhere we look. Even the staunchest optimist knows perpetual exponential growth cannot be run forever, but somehow alway thinks that limit is decades or centuries away. Watch this video (it's actually 2 videos with a slight pause between the two videos
@Seanyboyh Sure, send me a YT instant message and I'll give you the email address to send it to. But please do me the favor of actually watching the above mentioned video, it will be quite informative and gives a look at something humans don't intuitively grasp.
Like education ,the health care industry heavely depends in the Goverment programs like medicare and medicaid, what will happen if MC stops payments? mh
Couldn't afford to goto college, wish I could have right out of high school due to the type of classes I took in school for Cisco Networking and computer repair, but people won't hire me for simple jobs either so what would have been the point of wasting money to get a piece of paper that says hey guys this idiot spend another 4+ years of his life attending school after he graduated High School. To me college just means hey you weren't smart enough when you were in high school.
My advice, for what it's worth, is: first get a good trade you can always fall back on, like be a carpenter, or an electrician. Do something you'd like. Then, maybe go for a degree. But keep your eyes open for opportunities that follow any talent you may have, such as music or dancing, etc. If you're in the right place at the right time, you could strike gold!
A lot of the two year (community) public-colleges> still teach trades&vocations. +They are usually low-cost schools.
Folks don't spend a lot of money for a useless degree & end up 'cookin' hamburgers in a burger joint. +I know a person that borrowed money to become a 'Veterinarian-assistant' & ended up> 'cleaning up animal-sh#t' for a few bucks over minimum wage. (got bit a lot)
Anyone going into school-debt, should check if there is a worth while job afterwards. Don't waste money or time!
@1023471965 "Folks don't spend a lot of money for a useless degree & end up cookin hamburgers in a burger joint?" Really? I can name a recent Rutgers grad (business) who flips burgers and a Fairleigh Dickinson grad (education... I think) who over a year after graduating is out of work altogether, both of whom have loans to pay back. My point is, what worthwhile job is there in this economy when you come out of school owing $80k? We can't all run MF Globals.
Yeah, college seems so futile to go to at this moment, but i think these young folks gotta prepare now anyway they can and also get back to our rural roots, grow your own food, grow tobacco(for trade purposes),....remember Reg your motto,..."The future belongs to those who prepare for it today".
and house prices are still rising in Canada? - because of low interest rates!.. Ontario and BC housing numbers are called as 'overheated'. I wonder how many Canadians are just waiting for the wall to fall.
@BLynchCAN I often go to southern Manitoba and business there appears to be sort of thriving, but Canada depends on foreign trade and if Europe really gets in trouble, Canada may suffer also. Canada benefits from petroleum, just like North Dakota, so they may hang in there pretty well.
@bodryn Southern Manitoba triving? Is that correct. I have friends that would like to hear that.
Canada is connected to "England" 'Great Britian' not "Europe", 'EU' (EEC, EC, EU). Unt, vee (Canada) have lots of Oil.!
Unt, vit ze Oil, ve hav Nickle, und Diamonds, unt potash, ya, unt, UF6, hoo yeah. It's not trade with Europe that is in the question here. It the amount of Canadian dollars in investment funds in Europe banks and Fund companies.
@BLynchCAN Recently they have imported some 70? families from Kazakhstan to fill projected labor needs. However it does occur to me that this suggests people who are willing to work for less.
@BLynchCAN I saw one old lady in a store who looked very much like she was used to living under rather sparse conditions, much like our ancestors did on small farms a hundred years ago. I'd say they are very happy to be getting living conditions in Canada, about as good as you will find at this time anywhere. So what you have is entire families, probably Mennonite, moving to a Mennonite community in Canada. Good for them.
Our economy is done for. Being honesty it would be best to prepare, and store goods if you can. I'm expecting things to get very chaotic in America soon.
@Shouxiao It is scary but after looking at pix of the "we are the 99%" online, I think there will be so many people in dire straits that it can't look good for too many people very soon. There are really sad stories of people who are so up against it, I'm afraid there are those who may be driven to suicide.
@OrmondTheMagnificent If you can take North Dakota weather, they're dying for more help in the oil fields around Williston. I heard that even truck drivers can make $80,000/year.
First, college works on two ends of the spectrum - the best & brightest gain higher education AND lesser capable are removed from the workforce for 4 additional years thereby lowering the unemployment of the least skilled young workers
Second, public schools are atrocious and junior colleges teach what k-12 daycare didn't
Third, manufacturing has never been #1, ever. Never will be in the future either, so let that misguided pipe dream go :)
@NurseMeister I think most of those who get advanced degrees will have to go out of the country to find a job. Even computer people are competing with graduates from India, like those that you get on the phone to talk you through some computer problem.
The thing is to focus on paying CASH for what you NEED, which is something most Americans have a hard time doing. Folks act like having kids, a mortgage and a constant car payment are things they simply can't avoid, but I look at my friends who used to rag on me living in an apartment at 34 and driving a pre-owned car, and now they cry the blues about their debts while all my bills are met by a single paycheck from a $14 an hour job. Frugal wins in the end.
I Couldn't agree with you more. Frugal not only wins but often by a long shot. People don't plan these days and are now drowning in debt and they'll be wondering why. . However, TJ347, you and I will be subsidizing the guys through our taxes, especially those having kids they can't afford. If they worked harder, I'll probably pay less tax since I'm single now.
Computer Science major here, a lot of people at my university just don't like math and science, it is sad because I know most of them right now have difficulty competing to get into their majors' classes and they will eventually face the same issue when they graduate.
thank you. i was thinking about dropping out cause i have no idea what i was doin there in college. thankfully ive got no debts. ill have to just probably get some trade job type of thing. thanks again ive really been thinking hard wheter to drop out or not.
I got finished an engineering grad degree recently and my advice will be not to drop out since you say you have no debts. You just have to be able to adapt yourself for the future, i.e., do courses that will sustain you, not something like archaeology (don't have anything against the course) but looking at what can sustain you. It's not easy, just remember that eventually, things will pay off. However, there are no guarantees in life.
Unfortunately our economy has turned to the service side of business instead of the production of material as far as labor is concerned. Obviously technology has played a major role in this, take my field.I work in the construction and maintenance of utilities. What took a crew of 6 to 8 people 10 years ago has now become a two man job. Those two men now spend a quarter of their time going to classes to learn new skills. That on top of field experience is what I look for when I hire, not paper.
@theprofessional7777 And they are all mostly supported by the government and the govt is supported by what? Or a better question would be is the govt is stable or supported at all?
@jla3rd government will always continue.......always, the international bankers will always have money for government to enforce or carry out its agenda, everything that is happening in this country is by design not mistake, they want the general public to not be self sufficient in anything , eventually the government jobs will feel like total slavery, because all you will be doing is carrying out the government agenda to get what you need. the object is to break the will of the people .
@jla3rd how do you think they have trillions for wars but cant open businesses in your neighborhood so you can have a decent job but instead you are faced with the last resort......joining the military.......making a profit off sickness and medical drugs that dont do nothing that make you feel worse than before.......police the public and lock them up for disobeying the laws that suppress them, cause you know your job is to protect an investment and arrest code breakers, its all a game.
@theprofessional7777 It really fucking is man...... Im going into medical because i got laid off and im fighting with hundreds of others for employment even part time is a struggle
@00Delaney00 Are you saying that the skilled labor market is dwindling or is there a growing demand for those with actual certified skills and not just the cheap immigrant labor?
@jla3rd It's the skilled labor that is in demand, the cheap labor is mechanized in most instances. Just having a certificate doesn't mean anything if you don't have the experience to back it up. What needs to be realized especially in the construction field is that experience will trump a piece of paper any day of the week. Not everyone can be a lawyer because if they did the demand and the pay would go down. Perfect example is a graphic design artist. The field is now over saturated.
i considered going back to school for criminal justice but after looking at all the cost an the collages i would have to go to for tht field was like crazy numbers!! its easier to hold up a gas station or 7-11 then it would be to get a bachelors in criminal justice!! point is even after i finished school it dont guaranty me getting a placement in tht field because of the collage i went too! its just crazy an if you dont pay back the loan they come after you with guns drawn an arrest you!
You want to have a job and make money?? Go to school to be a nurse practitioner. I work in a rural area of the Midwest and I have MORE WORK than I know what to do to with and I make nearly a 6 figure salary. I would welcome the help (panting)
Well I graduated 2008 to computer engineering (embeded systems). But can't get job here in Finland. There are many of us that have degree but there is no so many jobs. Nokia and other firms are layin down workers and I can't compete with more experienced workers in the job market for those few open jobs.
like your vids dude, I am a college junior in upstate NY, I understand that nowadays it may not be a good idea to go to college. I feel like I am damned if I do and damned if I dont :-/ cause i dont know of any well paying jobs that i dont need a college degree for and is also in demand and growing? I hate to say it but I think we are all fucked.... what do you think??
@jdziedzic11 If its most return on your time and money, entry-level jobs that require only a two-year degree, like nursing. Also I would think trade schools would be a good bet. Mechanics, Plumbers, Welders. Check the want ads in the paper and you will see what I mean...computer/IT .
get out of college and go into a vocational school and get your certification (i.e. welding, EMT, agriculture, CNA, phlebotomy, air craft engineering ) I have a master's degree working at a shopping center making less than $10 an hour, and still in debt. Graduated last Dec. YOU GET THE PICTURE?????
"A genius stays in school just long enough to gain the confidence to succeed in the world"

Man needs to use his creative human potential to create useful and beautiful works-- or the spirit dies. It is not about money and a job-- but it is about being useful to, and a participant in the broader productivity of your community.
Well guy I couldn't agree more. The academy is a good way to insure high income (at least in high chances) but only if of course you study a REAL profession that produces something. Not some bs like arts or philosophy. I'm talking obviously about STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics).
A cell phone Co was at a recent job fair looking for salespeople. The qualifications.... Assoc. or BA degree and 2-3yrs of sales experience. Just five yrs ago pushing cell phones was a step up from flipping burgers. Now so many need work they have the balls to imply that college has earned you the privilege of selling cell phones
Add prepping for Alien Invasion to the list. Did you catch any of the 2 hour NatGeo "what if" scenario, discussing world govt plans and war-gaming such an event? Everybody who isn't dead ends up in the country under a makeshift tent, batering flashlights and knives. All the women are knocked up. It was interesting.
@scottj719 i saw that ..i was thinking all the time..."what the hell are they trying to get us ready for?" the goal of the entertainment industry is not to entertain but rather to indoctrinate and propagandize the masses...
Same here Reg, I graduated 4 years ago from university and still can't get full time work. I regret going to university. Would have been better off doing a plumbing course!!!
Reginald, i like that you always have a neutral position on whatever topic, no acting or exaggerations, you are genuine. Your channel is a true source of informaation. Thank you for all your efforts and time in making your videos.
I agree with you, if we do not have jobs that produce wealth, all these other jobs will collapse very soon because there will be no wealth left to circulate around the economy. Keep up your great insightful videos.
I think there needs to be more "production" in the local community small farms kind of things. This tackles food cost rising and = a stimulus in the local areas. And farming even on the small scale is good honest work. Love the vids demcad.
@GrowingFreedom I've been thinking about going that route. I am very curious about farming and not the industrial kind where they just produce edible poisons that have been deemed safe. Do you work in that field? How is it? How did you get started? Where and how did you learn it?
One reality about college people do NOT consider is COLLEGE IS A BUSINESS...and as a business they are in it to make MONEY. Hence the high cost of tuition, books, dorms etc. Sad aspect is there not only is NOT a guarantee of job afterward, but a crushing debt ensues in the quest for the degree. I've learned more since I graduated than I did while in college and wish I could sue to get my money back, which I learned a few students are actually doing. College is a SHAM
If obama hadn't stopped those 300,000 illegals from being deported, we would have been able to put 200,000 AMERICANS back to work, I don't support the infrastructure jobs stimulus package, because those jobs went straight to the obama base of "ILLEGAL ALIENS" ! Get rid of the 50,000,000 "ILLEGAL ALIENS" and get our Skilled Labor Jobs back!
I am $100K in debt with student loans for a degree that has about the same clout of a GED... Fortunately, I am still working at the same job I had BEFORE I went to school so I can afford the student loan payments.
I work in IT and have no college degree, I have been working in this field for six years now. When I first started I started on the bottom in help desk making 40K. I was amazed at how many people had bachelors and masters degrees starting along side me. People have to be educated that college is not the only option to enter the workforce. In IT you can certify yourself in vendor products to get yourself in the door, that's what I did.
IF I were to go to college for a career investments, I would NOT go to college straight out of high school if I didn't have the money myself or if I lacked a scholarship. Advice to high school grads, please don't go to college directly out of high school if you are going to college on government loans. go straight to the job market out of high school , work for four years, save up for college and live with parents, and then go to college at 22 years old.Believe me u don't want a pile of debt
From an individual basis, when it comes to doing something with your college degree, the odds are against you. However if it takes five hundred Physics majors to produce one nuclear physicist. Sorry, there are four hundred and ninety nine losers (count me in there). But we need some nuclear physicists in this world so most people trying to become one will get the short straw. C'est la vie.
Strangely enough around my area I see a different trend but I am out in the country and that may effect this. The trend I see is alot of new businesses opening up by non graduates. I have a friend that doesn't have a degree who opened up a gunsmithing shop a couple weeks ago. I opened a shop back in July. Around here more people are doing with what they have. I have a bachelors degree but it has nothing to do with my business I opened.
Great analysis. This shows that college is sadly becoming less practical. My friend has huge debt after graduating from ITT Tech and has been working in an office job for minimum wage for almost 2 years! Create your OWN FUTURE!
I am a professional poker player, which is a good example of learning a skill 100% independently, without the aid/burden of college, & being able to do something I enjoy for good money. There are endless career options these days, many of which do not require college.
I think folks may be coming to the conclusion that not everyone should go to college. If you have a passion for a subject, you may be better off studying on your own. In this economy a 2-year degree may be more beneficial in this service economy. After some exp. or certifications, more industrious folks can start their own business in their field. I had a specific trade in mind (clinical social work), so I had to attend a 4-year and grad school. Now I'm disabled... but my loans are forgiven.
hmm, why are you discussing loans when there are so many ways to attend college for free through financial aid. i have been going to college for 3 years now and i don't owe a penny, every semester i receive a refund of $1500 after my books and classes are paid for. i know some classmates who receive 20k a year in aid, they don't a have job, but they have a car and an apartment. its obvious that the best jobs are in science and math. long term things will get better, it may take 10 or 20 years.
@breezebro i was in the work force for 5 years after high school, but i got tired of making 15k a year. i'd suggest many people do the same. i agree that money has to come from somewhere, but you don't understand, 80% of college students receive financial aid. the numbers are public, look it up. im not a leech, the government funds a lot of money into education because there is a turn around in investment. all graduates will probably get a job and pay all that money back in taxes.
@breezebro oh i see you are a troll, you may have had a bad experience or life is not going well. you believe in poor people staying poor.
college is not easy, i work my ass off studying trying to keep my grades up to qualify for aid and scholarships. i see no honor in a black person joining the military, for what, to be slaved all over again.
@jh3835 But you see honor in living off Social Security, food stamps, taking money for a free education. I think it's obvious who the troll is. Just quit school and sell drugs to school children
Productive capacity is more relevant regarding balance of trade and import/export issues. So long as the US can pay for its imports through either services or exports the number of people working manufacturing jobs is meaningless.
Problems arise when the trade deficit goes way out of wack like it has today. In a non-insane world the dollar would lose value relative to make up for the lack of exports and therefore less would be imported. This doesn't happen when you have the reserve currency...
Demcad you're a smart guy and on the right track. Unfortunately, like Peter Schiff you seem to be hung up on this idea that we need more people in manufacturing jobs, but this is untrue. The nature of market economies is to do more with fewer people. The best example of this is food production and farming. Only 3% of Americans work as farmers yet we're able to feed people in abundance. Thanks to machines and better methods fewer people are needed.
@alternatelinks I think we need more production. The includes manufacturing and production of food. It also involves the creation of new technologies.
@DEMCAD The problem with new technology in manufacturing and farming and in most fields is that technology often replaces manpower. Sure, the business owner may save some money and increase production but maybe in the long run there will be less people who can afford to buy his product because their job was lost to technology and his sales/profit will fall and he will need to cut MORE corners and the cycle goes on and on until he is forced out of business because we are all broke.
I work with a lot of young people who recently graduated with chemical engineering degrees and they are low paid contractors. We cannot keep them around because of this. That pay scale is way off for the young bloods. They are more like making $30k-50k a year to start if they're lucky. Most companies won't even look at them because they don't have five years of experience with their degrees, so they stay making $30-50k a year for the next five years.
@Eventualdecline yes u are correct currently i make only lousy 30k no degree, but i got 2 of my buddies one is a civil engineer and the other is a chemical! but both of them make around 35 k as starters, it took one of them 4 years to find that 35 k job per year, meanwhile he still owes around 30 k in loans!
Most likely those are "gross" pre-tax numbers. They don't tell you the net 38% in taxes you'll pay. Gross salaries, indeed. Great vid, DemCad. Tell the People!
@DEMCAD Yes he is right i used to be a cashier also when i got right out of high, back in 2004, and nowhere do you make 19 k, i mean im looking at all these numbers they put out, and i know many people what kind of jobs they do it does not add up! Food services 19 to 20k? maybe if they are working 70+ hours per week def not 40! i got only 2 year degree, its pointless to go unless u are engineer but i got friends who are engineers and they make about the same as i do only they got 30 k in debt!
@JamesJablonski2008 I would say it depends on how many hours and where the job is located. Im sure this number is for a full-time cashier. This would tend to skew the numbers as a full-time cashier probably gets paid a lot more than a part-time one per hour. 19k equates to 10.7 dollars per hour
seems there is also a larger problem present...namely the idea that a university degree...and learning/schooling in general...should be and is primarily pursued for the sake of gaining employment and achieving materialistic wealth/social status...seems that, if we accept this as true and ideal...that we should perhaps begin to more often refer to places of education as job training centers...in other words, seems the focus is wrong...there is more to learning than the "occupational" aspect...
@VIRTLANTIS "there is more to learning than the "occupational" aspect." I Completely agree dude but spending 50 grand for womens studies when you could have read it in your spare time are two different things
Is it true you recently did not apply for a salaried job near you, 42k per year? I heard you didn't even reply nor thank for the lead. What was the problem with this? I've never gotten more than 25k per year. That was only a few years, at that. Last year, I earned 4k! (And still saved some money!) I know an American who quit a new job recently because he felt his boss was unreasonable. Hello? Change the boss! Work from within! That's what I do. I'm an employee delegate. (France.)
@slobomotion "Is it true you recently did not apply for a salaried job near you, 42k per year? I heard you didn't even reply nor thank for the lead. What was the problem with this?"
It's not true. What are you talking about? And who exactly feed you line of bs?
@Junglecat1776 Same low weekly food budget since the '80s, nothing bought, no driving, stuff like that. No portable phone, TV, gadgets, & so on. I did have my apt rehabbed, new wiring & stuff, but I'd been saving for that since 2000 & those funds were in a special savings acct w tax benefits here in France. Haven't been to a hairdresser but once since '92, cook from scratch daily, no restaurants . . . I use leftover makeup my mother gave me from the 1960s. Stuff like that.
There is one post, ONE, that basically said who cares because economic collapse is coming. I'm glad to see many of you actually using your heads and looking/planning for a not so bleak future. Find your own road and walk it. That's college for some, trade or skilled craft for others.
DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME...you don't need a college degree to create a for-profit YT account.
If you want to go to school, look at a "tech" or "community college". Best bang for the buck...IF you can actually find a job.
The destruction of the American economy is global, and it isn't over by a long shot. Many "solutions" are coming for all the intentional B.S. agenda's.
As long as everything we are told/forced/convinced to buy in this country is made somewhere else by slave labor i.e. China, Taiwan, Dominican Republic or Africa nothing will change. Look on the back of everything you own, it doesn't cost any less but some of the profit that used to go to build a middle class now only goes into a few select pockets. Everyone is focusing on the outcome rather than the cause. Better start learning Chinese, they're going to want to collect someday.
The quality and marketing has potential to weed out the bad lecturers and assimilate the good ones and at the same time generate several means of income simultaneously based on how many trade webinars you open up. We ought to learn from khan academy and the like.

A lot of our production is automated now, so even though we are manufacturing things, much of it is done by machines.

So what you have is entire families, probably Mennonite, moving to a Mennonite community in Canada. Good for them.

Second, public schools are atrocious and junior colleges teach what k-12 daycare didn't
Third, manufacturing has never been #1, ever. Never will be in the future either, so let that misguided pipe dream go :)

@ArmyRussianRanger
However, there are no guarantees in life.
jeromeeusebius 3 months ago
Unfortunately our economy has turned to the service side of business instead of the production of material as far as labor is concerned. Obviously technology has played a major role in this, take my field.I work in the construction and maintenance of utilities. What took a crew of 6 to 8 people 10 years ago has now become a two man job. Those two men now spend a quarter of their time going to classes to learn new skills. That on top of field experience is what I look for when I hire, not paper.

@00Delaney00 Are you saying that the skilled labor market is dwindling or is there a growing demand for those with actual certified skills and not just the cheap immigrant labor?
jla3rd 2 months ago
@jla3rd It's the skilled labor that is in demand, the cheap labor is mechanized in most instances. Just having a certificate doesn't mean anything if you don't have the experience to back it up. What needs to be realized especially in the construction field is that experience will trump a piece of paper any day of the week. Not everyone can be a lawyer because if they did the demand and the pay would go down. Perfect example is a graphic design artist. The field is now over saturated.

TheAbsintheReviewNet 3 months ago
I think folks may be coming to the conclusion that not everyone should go to college. If you have a passion for a subject, you may be better off studying on your own. In this economy a 2-year degree may be more beneficial in this service economy. After some exp. or certifications, more industrious folks can start their own business in their field. I had a specific trade in mind (clinical social work), so I had to attend a 4-year and grad school. Now I'm disabled... but my loans are forgiven.
combatjm89 3 months ago
hmm, why are you discussing loans when there are so many ways to attend college for free through financial aid. i have been going to college for 3 years now and i don't owe a penny, every semester i receive a refund of $1500 after my books and classes are paid for. i know some classmates who receive 20k a year in aid, they don't a have job, but they have a car and an apartment. its obvious that the best jobs are in science and math. long term things will get better, it may take 10 or 20 years.
jh3835 3 months ago
@jh3835 Because most people have obligations and need money, so they have a job and no longer qualify for financial aid.

@jh3835 I don't have to look it up, I know 80% of college students are leeches. If everybody does it, it must be right.

This doesn't happen when you have the reserve currency...
alternatelinks 3 months ago
Demcad you're a smart guy and on the right track. Unfortunately, like Peter Schiff you seem to be hung up on this idea that we need more people in manufacturing jobs, but this is untrue. The nature of market economies is to do more with fewer people. The best example of this is food production and farming. Only 3% of Americans work as farmers yet we're able to feed people in abundance. Thanks to machines and better methods fewer people are needed.
alternatelinks 3 months ago
@alternatelinks I think we need more production. The includes manufacturing and production of food. It also involves the creation of new technologies.
DEMCAD 3 months ago 3
@DEMCAD The problem with new technology in manufacturing and farming and in most fields is that technology often replaces manpower. Sure, the business owner may save some money and increase production but maybe in the long run there will be less people who can afford to buy his product because their job was lost to technology and his sales/profit will fall and he will need to cut MORE corners and the cycle goes on and on until he is forced out of business because we are all broke.

@alternatelinks how much food is imported?
Romein4 3 months ago
@alternatelinks those machines wont be there forever. to have 3% of Americans feeding 97% is a disaster in the making.

Eventualdecline 3 months ago
@Eventualdecline yes u are correct currently i make only lousy 30k no degree, but i got 2 of my buddies one is a civil engineer and the other is a chemical! but both of them make around 35 k as starters, it took one of them 4 years to find that 35 k job per year, meanwhile he still owes around 30 k in loans!

I use to be cashier they dont make 19k a year is well below 12k and under mis information
JamesJablonski2008 3 months ago
@JamesJablonski2008 Yeah, I was suspicious of that number. But it goes to show you that reality is worse than the government numbers.
DEMCAD 3 months ago 4
Most likely those are "gross" pre-tax numbers. They don't tell you the net 38% in taxes you'll pay. Gross salaries, indeed. Great vid, DemCad. Tell the People!
tinfoilcap 3 months ago
@DEMCAD Yes he is right i used to be a cashier also when i got right out of high, back in 2004, and nowhere do you make 19 k, i mean im looking at all these numbers they put out, and i know many people what kind of jobs they do it does not add up! Food services 19 to 20k? maybe if they are working 70+ hours per week def not 40! i got only 2 year degree, its pointless to go unless u are engineer but i got friends who are engineers and they make about the same as i do only they got 30 k in debt!
cetnik03 3 months ago
@JamesJablonski2008 Lmao I know right, I was working full time at wal-mart as a cashier & made not even 13k that year.
emello4you 3 months ago

(France.)

Junglecat1776 3 months ago

1godthor 3 months ago
