You have no idea the DI still swear ever y other word and still hit us. No biggy to me but even now there was kids who tried commuting suicide. Bravo company platoon 1034 was a tough Ass group. Oorah.
.If you are serious about enlisting into the Marine Corps make sure you read through the website that is linked on my profile page. It goes to a website for Future Marines and it is filled with plenty of honest info that you need to know before you enlist. Plus you will also see a facebook link which is filled with USMC info also and you can join this page. It is also a page for future Marines. Semper Fi.
Do they still do the worst pit thrashing at Edson Range by the snapping in circles? Man, our DI's went ballistic there with us cause we f'd up Initial drill before going to the range. We really "made it rain" behind those snapping in circles and got smacked around really bad there. One night the DI's came in at about 3AM all drunk in their civies and pulled us out of the racks to pit us in the cold outside. Sweet memories..My old ass could never do that stuff today. lol
@LosAngeleno1959 yeah the corps really did soften up a bit..they can't pit you anytime during lights out anymore..and they rarely even quarterdeck anyone
Wow! we called that "going to the classroom" back then and that squadbay tile floor was nothing but puddles of sweat and we'd actually be slipping all over our own sweat with our muscles in a burning rage! They would keep us in there long till guys were convulsing and moaning in agaony. I wonder if they still make you hold out your rifles with both hands horizontally till your arms are burning? If anyone put their arms down we'd stay longer at it. Yup Im too old for that now. lol
@LosAngeleno1959 they don't have tiles on the the deck anymore , they're just smooth concrete and they still make you hold your rifles in front of you..an they only hit you if it's necesary other than that..most of the time they actually keep their one arm distance
Really? I remember on "Field day" Thursdays we'd have one private witha bucket of liquid wax pouring on the floor then about 7 of us following behind on our knees spreading the wax and then 7 more privates behind us with buff pads on hands and knees. That frigging deck was immaculate. You could eat off that deck Then we'd move the racks back and finish up then the best part of all was "mail call" I think back to those days 32 years ago and it sometimes gets me misty eyed with nostalgia.
@DisbJ Yes we were always referred to as "Privates" and never "recruits". And the first and last word out of our mouths was always "sir". I hear they don't do that anymore. Also one never said "I, me, or you" ever. We'd get a punch to the stomach and our air knocked out if we did or even made eye contact with the DI . I think my DI's took it a little over the top at times and were just being sadistic. It was crazy even into Third phase they didn't let up.
@LosAngeleno1959 interesting, I kinda was it was always that chaotic, and no it's just a simple, yes sir/no sir,and you and i know it all depends the kind of mentality The DI's have or how their mood is like at the time, we do get hit every so often but i doubt it was as intense as your experience, they do get alittle nice after the Crucible which is only the last week prior to graduation
@DisbJ Well I went back there not so long ago to check it out and the DI's are still tough and its still as physically challenging but I noticed the DI's aren't and phsycotic as they use to be and they don't cuss as much. I actually think it's better. Our DI's were just way too abusive. You cannot imagine . We had guys trying to commit suicide back then but they always failed. My brother went in 1966 and it was just as crazy. Wow! the uniforms have really changed.
@LosAngeleno1959 lol I don't think using profanity is a big deal, and i think, to me they're just words, and I'm pretty sure they still cuss inside the buildings or out in the PT field and up in Edson Range, and if the DI's aren't as bad as you say then it's a good thing i thought about that while i went through it not bitch, and yeah I was late and i miss the tricolor days, the cammies now doesn't even require ironing anymore kinda puts laziness to the BDR on it
@DisbJ I was a Drill Instructor at Parris Island back in the mid 80's and I only used profanity when I was extremely angry or very tired. The Drill Field is rewarding but also exhausting mentally. My DI's on theother hand used it 24/7
Yes the utility uniform has changed drastically. We would wash our green Sateen utilities in Bootcamp on cement washslabs behind the squadbays on Sundays and hang them to dry on lines and then starch them as well as starching our covers on "Coverblocks".
The few. The Proud. The Marines. but its weird that EVERY single one of those kids will be pushed through boot. ya know? if they fail they just get held back. they dont "weed" out the week.. . . . thats why SO many marines are UA after basic. trust me. i saw it all the time at 52
I hear you about closing your eyes... but I'm confused about how you can incorrectly spell "corps." I feel like that's a mistake a Marine wouldn't make.
WOW...i believe that these dirty niggers called marines, are just idiots, who fight for the banksters, who don't care for them,or for their family, when they killed...just im sory for you stupid guys...you are totally fucked from your government....and now you are to fucked from an nigger slave...im sorry for you...idiots
We had mess duty when I went through in 2001. We had a Salty Msgt that ran everything. And we still got smacked around, we just didnt tell anyone...lol
Looks like they changed the fascade of the squadbays. I was there in 1978. I hear the DI's can't smack you around anymore and civilians work in the chowhall now. We had Mess duty after coming back from the Rifle Range.
Looks like they changed the front of them to try to pretty it up some to me. I don't know about civies in the chow hall, I went in 96 and we still did the chow hall.
Still had "whiskey locker counseling" by DI's then as well but a friend of mine lost a rocker back in 06 for bounce checking a kid who spit on him in formation at PI so I am guessing that's a no go now.
lol! I remember one morning as we were in formation after chow one private spit cause he thought the senior wasn't watching. LOL! He was caught and had to pick up the spit with his mouth, gravel and all. Poor dude!. The DI made him swallow it all.
I was caught drinking water from my canteen after a run and I had to down 5 canteens of hot water till O was puking all over the deck. Sweet memories! My DI's were total sadist.
those goddam jets. all i see is the drill instructors lips move and when he stops everyone says "aye sir" then i look like an idiot because i didnt hear shit.
did anyone hear one of the recruits about say "marching manu...." when he was doing the marching manual cadence? or am i hearing shit? i wanna see vids of the pit also. haha
ahhh.... the pit! thrashing in the pit was the best times of my life. i thought the same thing too, it looks like they filled them in. btw- i graduated in 85 platoon 1107. hernandez had his hands full with me! lol! lefty - righty - ohh!
Not much of a pit anymore I kept begging my DI to IT me and he just told me to go away everytime and never got IT after the first 2 and 3rd volunteered
they finished the new squadbays while i was there. i wouldnt call them nicer, they're the same except their newer. Marine corps boot camp squadbays aint ever gonna get more comfortable, thats for sure. but yeah i totally remember those planes, one flies by like every 10 minutes and i wished everytime i was one it
I was in that squadbay for 20 seconds once on the day before family day. We were drilling and had to make a head call. Theyre fucking nice, all the shitters and pissers work and the rain room aint all fucked up. There isnt even any brown water dripping from the cieling either.
