I got rid of cable 3 weeks ago, and I was surprised when a 12 dollar radio shack antenna gave me the best reception. I picked up 20 channels. its called the "radio shack budget antenna" its got the best customer reviews on their website also
I'm a long time Terk HDTVi user but recently bought "Supersonic SC-602 Digital Indoor Antenna"... cheaper and simple, it simply beats TERK HDTVa and HDTVi antennas.
I have one of Turks antenna's which is an outside unit and it picks up channels great whereas one's like that one didn't work for me. It looks about like that one and the channels which was very poor for me in the rural area where I live comes in clear even with channels I couldn't get before. The picture on my analog looks better than the ones on Directv with a new TV hooked up to it.
@semco72057 try "Supersonic SC-602 Digital Indoor Antenna." It's a cheap antenna but don't judge book by its cover... I've tried Terk and it's not as good as they say it is... I recently bought "Supersonic SC-602 Digital Indoor Antenna" and it works better... about 1000x better...
@UnhappyDreamer I had so many indoor antenna's and gave up on them and put up the outside HD antenna which was made by Terk. It seem to work fine for me so I will keep it until it wears out. The picture quality is 200% better than anything I had indoors. The Supersonic indoor antenna may be great for you, but for me living 70 miles away from the stations towers I needed something stronger.
I made my own antenna based on part in the coat hanger designs I see online. However, I used 4 RS Bowties connected with the crossover for the top two bowties and another one for the bottom 2. Then of course the bowties are attached to a wooden dowel and then a matching transformer is used to convert the 300 ohm impedance to 75 ohm. It actually works quite well. I use it inside with good results. It would work even better in the attic or on the roof.
Ok, so if this is an HD antenna, why does it have the normal coaxial input? I may be mistaken, but I was under the impression that for HD picture HDMI cable, DVI-D and audio cables, or audio and component video cables were required.
No HDMI/DVI nor Components is required. You're cable and sat company still have a coaxial cable running in your house right? Those other connects are prefered over the coaxial RF connection from receiver/set-top/system to your tv. The live source can and will be coaxial most of the time.
Actually, digital signal doesn't mean it's HD 100% like cable, but, compared to old analog signals, these digital signals are far more superior... and I've tried it at home... sound quality of tv is amazing w/ new signal, as well as some extra channels you get...
For the people thinking about getting this Terk antenna save your money its not worth it. I had the winegard 3000 antenna but there were a few local channels that I could not get to come in so I bought this thing. It worked ok for me, but my wingard was better. If I had to give it a grade it would be a C. Next up for me is the ClearStream 2 outdoor UHF antenna. It has been getting great reviews and its small so I can keep it indoors. "Fingers crossed"
this antenna was the original specification for DTV, it was supposed to be UHF only, but because of the last minute hi VHF allotment, rabbit ears where added. DTV transmissions have lower power than old analog, so an indoor antenna is the last thing to get, for the money, a small outdoor antenna is a much better choice.
I built a coat hanger antenna for my TV with an ATSC tuner and the OTA HD fact is indeed true. I can go next door and see the difference on my neighbor's FIOS hookup. He got rid of HD because he was disappointed.
I have a big Sony WEGA CRT set that kicks LCD and Plasma to the curb, especially given the fact it has 5 speakers - including a subwoofer - built into the cabinet.
It will not work if you live over 25-30 miles from the station antenna. I live 60 miles and I had to purchase a DB8 (works when the stations are over 50 miles away)
In my mobile home, no set of rabbit ears get any signal (not even radio signals). So an outdoor antenna is the only way to go for me. My outdoor antenna get better reception for digital, and even picks up WBBM-TV on DT3, which most Chicagoans don't get, since it's optimized for 2-69. Rabbit ears of any type don't work as well for 7-13, & even worse for 2-6. VHF need the longer antennas to get their signal, due to longer wavelengths, where UHF has shorter wavelengths, which does best for DTV.
[This is usually not told to the mainstream public since it confuses or bores non-techies, but...] There are only 49 channels for terrestrial DTV broadcasts. Under digital broadcasting standards, digital-TV broadcast channels in the U.S. are channels 2 through 51 (not 2 through 69, also channel 37 is not in use either)... in the U.S. channels 52-69 are being reallocated to other services. [see "Digital Terrestrial Television", also "channel 37" on wikipedia]
Ten years ago, a newly wed couple stayed in a hotel Suite. That night, as they were getting ready to make love, an arsonist blew the fuel tank. The fuel lines went alight and the whole building exploded. The husband survived, but the wife was deceased. from that day, the ghost bride has been searching for her husband. Unless you post this in five other videos, she may come to you and carry you into the ghost realm for an eternity of couple hood.
This guy is only a salesperson. A home made outdoor antenna will do just as good as this over priced regular tv antenna. There is no such thing as HDTV antenna! A UHF antenna is all you need.
despite the continuous yammering from this slick fast talking shyster, the end result was a total zero as far as him providing even minimal technical information ... doubt anyone, even someone totally naive and gullible, would accept anything he says
yep that is very true about the cable vs antenna i have tryed this myself on my hd tv and i must say the over the air is 10 times better than cable,im thinking of ditching my hd box and go to over the air
Not 10x better but cable networks are known for reducing bandwith to cram more chans in. FCC does not let OTA do that so you do see higher quality over MPEG-2.
It is only a matter of time before Cable makes a big push tho. Eventually they will go on a massive push to Mpeg-4 to get more and higher quality HD in. But it will require 90 percent of boxes to be replaced.

Component video can do 720p and 1080i which are HD resolutions....and those are merely analogue cables too.
HDMI, DVI-D etc are just interfaces between two components...they have nothing to do with resolution.
