This was a 1989 late-night cable variety show called "The Big...Show," which featured sketches, music videos and live acts (one music act and two variety/performance art acts per episode), plus a novel concept at its core: NO recurring cast, and a different host each week.
It didn't last that long (the whole thing was kind of a failed experiment) but Al hosted it during the week UHF came out. These are some sketches from that week.

It's defidentally not The Weird Al Show...I've seen all those episodes, but this is something different...
