First of all, GREAT info!!! I was unaware of some of the things you have made clear in this video. I just bought an Agile Al-627 tribal green, I'm very interested in the Earvana nut and I have a couple of questions about it. I went to their web page and noticed they have few models, which one should I buy? Also, how is the sustain and voicing vrs a bone nut?
Nice review Jon. I've wanted a Firebird for years and I just bought the last white phoenix John Dillion had in stock. My question (PLEASE REPLY!) is - WHERE DID YOU GET THOSE WHITE REFLECTOR KNOBS? I've searched the internet all day trying to find someone that carries those knobs and have come up empty! They make the Phoenix look very classy and I've got to have a set!
@MrMishimax - Hey thanks Jon! It figures that it would be somehwere off the map like Australia! Did you have to buy three sets to get three volumes or were they willing to set you up with thrre volumes and one tone?
the videos are really nicely done. but i have one request/suggestion, and it would be easy to accmplish. Make two versions of the video, one with talking and playing, and the other with just playing. I think people would love to have the two options.
I've been looking for one of these for a long time. Your place there looks like a guitar store. Do you sell this exact model/color and can you ship to Singapore?
Yes. Basically the middle pickup is controlled by a volume pot only, so that it can be blended in with either of the other two pickups. You could use it by itself if you turn the volumes down on the neck and bridge pickups.
Yes I added the white knobs; thought they looked better on this model. These are brighter pickups than on my Les Pauls. These mini humbuckers. Seymour Duncan makes a whole bunch of mini replacements if you a thicker sound out of this style guitar.
For tone variation. There's 1 master tone. 3 volumes. 1 for the neck, middle, and bridge. If you turn the middle all the way down you can use the 3 way switch to control it like many other guitars. Neck, neck& bridge, bridge. You can then blend in the middle to warm the bridge pickup, or brighten the neck pickup.
We would love to at some point, but we are backlogged with so many other guitars at this point that it may take a while. From episode 35 on we used a tube amp without effects, so when we can recap some earlier episodes it'll be nice and clean.
We'd have to agree at first glance, but if you keep in mind that Epiphone doesn't offer these in white, left handed, or with ebony fingerboards, so they are a good value, especially for the lefty market.
*I don't understand how you can be evaluating an instrument and apparantly many and not allow the tone of the guitar to come through. I've played guitar for a long time and have owned Dillions, Epiphones, Samicks, Electra's ,Ibanez and many others and can hear the difference in the pick ups when played straight into an amp with a little reverb. This would be a nice baseline to use before adding effects.
Yes, you're absolutely right. Like anything, this video review process has developed over time for us. From improving visual details to working on the sound. If you get a chance check out episode 35 where we do just that. Clean straight sound. Appreciate the feedback, no pun intended, and thanks for watching.
@musix1111 Turns out, they already HAD those, but didn't sell well. I know, i e-mailed Dillion guitars and asked if they would be selling an explorer copy, and he said that the explorer body and v are discontinued, also they are hard to find now.
enjoyed the review. I just saw these on ebay. Ive been wanting a Firebird for years. (big Johnny Winter fan)...the Gibsons cost too much...the epiphones dont look right. I think this guitar may be the one. thanks.
I have been dealing with the same problem! I'm also a very big JW fan and I love the Gibson Firebird.. My uncle has got two, but indeed the price is to much isn't it. Maybe you like the Tokai Firebird? The Epiphone Firebird is a very nice replica I think!

The gibson style nut will work fine on your Agile. The intonation is much better, but I've always been partial to bone nuts. Thanks for watching.

This particular guitar balances well.

The Dillion is nice. The Epiphone VII is also nice, but I believe the V had a bolt on neck and no where near the same vibe. Thanks for watching.

Where can I purchase these guitars??
meateatingvegans 2 months ago
@meateatingvegans
You can buy them online from Dillion's website, but I currently have this one up for sale on Ebay.
brianway1 2 months ago
Nice.
What amp are playing through here?
How much do these weigh?
I owned a Firebird V and it weighed over 9lbs - too heavy for me - are these lighter like no more than 8lbs?
Thanks
lordsong7 3 months ago
@lordsong7
For that one we used a Line 6 Flextone II XL. The guitars are sweet, but heavy. Check out the other 63 episodes on YouTube. Thanks for watching.

Could you describe the neck profile & compare it to the Gibson Firebird V, which is pretty thin for my taste? Thanks!

How come yours has white knobs. Did u add those yourself?
Also how do these pickups compared to those of a Les Paul.
Are they Hotter? It sounds more trebley than a paul to me. But
I've noticed Foo Fighters use Firebirds, for most of their Heavier songs.

Dillion phoenix's features are good anyway.

Very reasonable for what you get. Enjoy.

No, it's a set neck. The fretboard has a 12" radius. Pearloid, not mother of Pearl.
