  • First of all, GREAT info!!! I was unaware of some of the things you have made clear in this video. I just bought an Agile Al-627 tribal green, I'm very interested in the Earvana nut and I have a couple of questions about it. I went to their web page and noticed they have few models, which one should I buy? Also, how is the sustain and voicing vrs a bone nut?

  • @heathofwlc

The gibson style nut will work fine on your Agile. The intonation is much better, but I've always been partial to bone nuts. Thanks for watching.

  • It does sound good through my mesa boogie though

  • I have a dillion double neck sg style in pearl white never play it though

  • Nice demo. How does this guitar balance standing up? Some firebird types are neck heavy, is this one?

  • @GuitarSaxHammond

    This particular guitar balances well.

  • should be better than epi

  • @leonoff89

The Dillion is nice. The Epiphone VII is also nice, but I believe the V had a bolt on neck and no where near the same vibe. Thanks for watching.

  • Where can I purchase these guitars??

  • @meateatingvegans

You can buy them online from Dillion's website, but I currently have this one up for sale on Ebay.

  • Nice.

What amp are playing through here?

    How much do these weigh?

I owned a Firebird V and it weighed over 9lbs - too heavy for me - are these lighter like no more than 8lbs?

    Thanks

  • @lordsong7

For that one we used a Line 6 Flextone II XL. The guitars are sweet, but heavy. Check out the other 63 episodes on YouTube. Thanks for watching.

  • Nice review Jon. I've wanted a Firebird for years and I just bought the last white phoenix John Dillion had in stock. My question (PLEASE REPLY!) is - WHERE DID YOU GET THOSE WHITE REFLECTOR KNOBS? I've searched the internet all day trying to find someone that carries those knobs and have come up empty! They make the Phoenix look very classy and I've got to have a set!

  • @MrMishimax

I'll send you the link for them. Thanks for watching.

  • @MrMishimax - Hey thanks Jon! It figures that it would be somehwere off the map like Australia! Did you have to buy three sets to get three volumes or were they willing to set you up with thrre volumes and one tone?

  • @MrMishimax

I had to get three sets.

  • i had never considered a Firebird-style guitar til i saw this video demo. Now this Dillion is on my list!

  • the videos are really nicely done. but i have one request/suggestion, and it would be easy to accmplish. Make two versions of the video, one with talking and playing, and the other with just playing. I think people would love to have the two options.

  • @peskypesky

Thanks, that's something we'll have to consider.

  • @bryansouza

    You gotta love G.A.S

  • @brianway1

I've been looking for one of these for a long time. Your place there looks like a guitar store. Do you sell this exact model/color and can you ship to Singapore?

    Cheers!

  • @DoctorAxe

Hi. Sorry, these guitars are from my personal collection. You can contact John at Dillion from their website and order one there. Enjoy.

  • Does the middle pick up work?

  • @greatbigbengaltiger

Yes. Basically the middle pickup is controlled by a volume pot only, so that it can be blended in with either of the other two pickups. You could use it by itself if you turn the volumes down on the neck and bridge pickups.

  • How Much it costs?

  • make videos of just jon way playing i love it!!!!

  • so what is the point of the middle pickup?

  • @manbearpig937 nevermind

  • Comment removed

  • Could you describe the neck profile & compare it to the Gibson Firebird V, which is pretty thin for my taste? Thanks!

  • @wes1220

Mine is more like a D on this guitar.

  • I've been wondering for a while, but what is that orangish telecaster style guitar on the top left?

  • @shamu214019

That's a 2002 Schecter PT Custom with GFS Dream 90 pickups. Watch it on Episode 4 of Guitars with Jon Way

  • talk faster

  • does this have a wide fretboard or thin

  • @termvegas

1-3/4" wide at the nut. The neck profile is a C shape.

  • DUDE TUBE AMP!! THIS IS NOT AN ACCURATE SOUND OF THIS GUITAR!!

  • @hendrix950

Thanks we heard and responded. Episode 36 and beyond all feature reviews with a Tube Amp and no effects. Check them out and enjoy.

  • is the neck just a set-neck or neck-thru like the original fb has?

  • @Velkus96

    Set neck on this one.

  • How come yours has white knobs. Did u add those yourself?

Also how do these pickups compared to those of a Les Paul.

Are they Hotter? It sounds more trebley than a paul to me. But

I've noticed Foo Fighters use Firebirds, for most of their Heavier songs.

  • @choplass

Yes I added the white knobs; thought they looked better on this model. These are brighter pickups than on my Les Pauls. These mini humbuckers. Seymour Duncan makes a whole bunch of mini replacements if you a thicker sound out of this style guitar.

  • Why is there a middle pickup and a volume for it if you can't select it with the selector?

  • @Playerc0

For tone variation. There's 1 master tone. 3 volumes. 1 for the neck, middle, and bridge. If you turn the middle all the way down you can use the 3 way switch to control it like many other guitars. Neck, neck& bridge, bridge. You can then blend in the middle to warm the bridge pickup, or brighten the neck pickup.

  • Are you ever going to make a video of this guitar without all the effects? I'd love to hear the natural clean tone of this guitar.

  • @gianmike

We would love to at some point, but we are backlogged with so many other guitars at this point that it may take a while. From episode 35 on we used a tube amp without effects, so when we can recap some earlier episodes it'll be nice and clean.

  • They're quite expensive for an unknown brand. You could probably get an Epiphone for about the same price.

  • @matzchase

We'd have to agree at first glance, but if you keep in mind that Epiphone doesn't offer these in white, left handed, or with ebony fingerboards, so they are a good value, especially for the lefty market.

  • *I don't understand how you can be evaluating an instrument and apparantly many and not allow the tone of the guitar to come through. I've played guitar for a long time and have owned Dillions, Epiphones, Samicks, Electra's ,Ibanez and many others and can hear the difference in the pick ups when played straight into an amp with a little reverb. This would be a nice baseline to use before adding effects.

  • @scottduncan44

Yes, you're absolutely right. Like anything, this video review process has developed over time for us. From improving visual details to working on the sound. If you get a chance check out episode 35 where we do just that. Clean straight sound. Appreciate the feedback, no pun intended, and thanks for watching.

  • It would be great to hear it without the chorus. We can't know what the real guitar sound is with chorus engaged.

Dillion phoenix's features are good anyway.

  • @TheLimiter

Thanks. Great point on the chorus effect. Check out episode 35 where we play it straight without effects. Next step is to start using tube amps.

  • the only thing dillion is missing now is an explorer and flying V copy.

  • @musix1111 Turns out, they already HAD those, but didn't sell well. I know, i e-mailed Dillion guitars and asked if they would be selling an explorer copy, and he said that the explorer body and v are discontinued, also they are hard to find now.

  • nice guitar what do they go for? Are they reasonable like the SX guitars or expensive like gibsons foe a USA model. Thanks

  • @damageplan67

They list for $799, but you can get them on ebay for about $500.

Very reasonable for what you get. Enjoy.

  • is it Neck Through John? Do you know the Fretboard radius? Pearloid (non Genuine pearl) Trapezoid inlays.

  • @phallystorm

No, it's a set neck. The fretboard has a 12" radius. Pearloid, not mother of Pearl.

It's a nice guitar to play.

  • Lefthandeds FTW :)

  • WOW

  • Thanks for the explanation of what the strap buttons do!

  • @fakename7543

Stay tuned. Next we explain why strings vibrate. ;)

  • gorgeous guitar, looks and tone

  • enjoyed the review. I just saw these on ebay. Ive been wanting a Firebird for years. (big Johnny Winter fan)...the Gibsons cost too much...the epiphones dont look right. I think this guitar may be the one. thanks.

  • @shakey64

I've enjoyed mine. I hope you enjoy yours.

  • @shakey64

I have been dealing with the same problem! I'm also a very big JW fan and I love the Gibson Firebird.. My uncle has got two, but indeed the price is to much isn't it. Maybe you like the Tokai Firebird? The Epiphone Firebird is a very nice replica I think!

By the way.. nice vid Brianway1!

  • Always look forward to seeing one of your new video's. You and Brian do a great

job on these. Always Interesting, nice video and sound.

  • @tjport1980

Thanks very much. We're glad you enjoy them.

  • Wow, magnificent guitar. What is the price for this beauty?

Are these all your guitars Jon?

  • @kkeulena

    yes sir :)

This Dillion Phoenix has a list of $799.
