  • I loved this game back in the day! I did a remix of one of tracks from it, i will upload it in a few days, its the bomb, oriental trip hop

  • a really GREAT game!!! love it!!!

  • Just replayed the game after so many years. Was a small boy when I first completed the game, barely understood anything haha.

After all this time the gameplay is still awesome. The world is well written and the bad english speaking aliens are full of character. There's variety in missions and environments, there's so much to explore on your own and even the enemy AI is pretty good. Sometimes there's a bit too much running around in circles and some bugs but those hardly matter.

    REPLAY IT!

  • man I love those weapons you see the fae soldiers using at 5:02. So cool.

  • never heard bevore

  • still has a place among the best 5 games I have played in my life =)

  • It's sitting on my shelf, still unbeaten, but i can't finish it because it won't run on modern pc's...damn.

  • Don't mock the way he runs. It's actually an optimised way to move while conserving the most biological energy.

  • This game was the shit.

  • It's hard to believe, with these graphics, that this game is a dozen years old! You can get this game on GOG.com and there is an Outcast thread with lots of info on the game and mods, like a high resolution mod. Well worth the $6 - that's 50c a year since it came out!

  • @johhu12 Gros con va. c'est l'un des meilleurs jeu que je connaisse et qui a ouvert le chemin vers les Killzone etc...

  • @johhu12 go eat ghorghor-zort

  • I bought this game once upon a time. Didn't work on my computer so i never had a chance to play it. Still loved it though.

  • wow this is so racist lol

  • How do you run outcast on an amd quadcore à 2.6 ghz, geforce gtx 260 and win 7 prof 64 bit? Please help, thx!

  • Maybe it's a bit like mass effect but I think alot more about Deus Ex, both during dialogue and the interface + the way you shoot at people and.

  • Great game, but one thing bothers me. Whenever I try to run through the green muddy water, the character slowly walks through it. I know I used to be able to run through it as well.

    Any thoughts?

  • @SirChevron Yeah this is a problem with the CPU being tooooo fast. The muddywater slowdown was calculated..somehow with the cpu in-mind.

  • @SirChevron yeah, got the same problem, after install on a new computer..

  • This is actually the only adventure or RPG that I can think of that I enjoyed having voiceovers for. I thought Dragon age, Knights of the old republic, and a bunch of other games didn't really need them, and hardly made them much better at all (overall would have been better time and money spent on other things). I haven't played too many RPGs or adventure games though.

  • now that this game has been made available for purchase on gog, i needed to see if it's worth buying, so thanks for the gameplay vid, you just made a sale :D

  • I'm glad I never played this. It's on GOG for $5.99 (really good site like D2D only they release Good Old Games that have been patched and install on XP/Vista/etc).

  • wow so many memories....

  • wow the dialogue in this game acutally make sense

not like in today RPG's when the character explaining you the whole history of the

    of the world.

  • Best game soundtrack ever made!

  • @FrancisMcLee

One of the best soundtracks ever.....but one could make a case for MDK as well

  • cool game!

  • reminds me of mass effect...

  • While the main story remains unchanged, the decisions you make in this game affect gameplay mostly, like weakening enemy soldiers or getting better equipment. But yeah, the whole dialog stuff is really alot like Mass Effect. Outcast did alot of things ahead of it's time.

  • To me it rather looked like mass effect did copy some aspects shameless off this game.

I remember as a kid, when it came out, my pc was to crappy to play it, but I tried it once at a friend. Wasn't aware though about the obvious similarities.

  • Amazing for 1999.

    Bump mapping,terrain generation,all the AI,lens flare,shadows,reflection etc....

    Mass Effect started here IMO...

  • very very good game!

  • love this game. played it about 6 times! one of the best games ever!

  • ICH LIEbE DAS SPIEL! xD

leider is meine cd kaputt =(

  • im playing this game now and I LOVE IT, its the third time actually :P

  • What a flashback.....I remember playing this for the first time thinking that it was a graphically advanced as a computer game could ever become......now in the midst of Killzone 2, Infamous, Modern Warfare, and a host of other games it seems so crude. BUt make no mistake about it if you're watching this video and don't know anything about this game.....it's fantastic. Fallout 3 didn't follow Fallout 2's footsteps, it followed Outcast.

  • does this game work on windows 7 ??

sorry for my english, i'm italian

  • i don't know if outcast is made by piranha bites

  • It's made by Appeal and Appeal got bankrupt that's why the creation of the sequel was stopped.

  • That game was great!!!

  • is this hard to find? Looks like a very good game.

  • one of the best games ever made

  • this do remind me of Gothic 3... does anyone knows if it is the same maker?!

  • Fabulous game !! Nostalgia is taking me right now...

  • I remember finding this in a videostore in the bargain bin back in 1999, it was old then. I almost passed it up, I had never heard of it, but I bought it and boy am I glad. It is the only one I ever played that made me feel sad when it ended. The world was so real and compelling. Yes, the voxel technology makes resolution bad, but everything has a beautiful air-brushed look, things receding into the misty distance. Wonder if this could be used to better effect in modern dual core PCs?

  • It seems that id software will be using voxels to add details to their characters, but I wasn't sure if it also added to terrain.

So, yes, indeed, voxels still have a place in our games.

  • Thanks, Mark. I'm no PC tech, but I remember reading (back when this game came out) that the use of voxels caused Outcast to make a huge demand on PCs of the time, when a 900 mhz rig was top of the line.

  • Voxels played a huge part asking some processor power, but it's mainly there to give the terrain an organic feel while still being expansive. Outcast pioneered alot of other techs that were also processor intensive, like bump mapping and antialiasing, realtime shadows and lots of particle effects. It was quite demanding before a time that hardware accelerators were common.

  • It's not the non-existing voxel engine that demanded all that processor power. Also 3D accelerators were more or less common. My 1999 Packard Bell has a 128mb ATI. Thing is, even high-end cards of that time wouldn't be able to render Outcast with all it's visual effects, like lens flares, fire and reflective water. So the developers decided to use purely software-based engines. And that is why it needs a lot of power. I think around 500 or 600 or something. Which was a lot back then.

  • Yeah okay, that makes sense. I always thought it was voxels though, I feel misinformed! And yeah, to get it to run even in 320x200 needed quite a heavy Pentium 2 whenever there's some complex architecture, like the city of Talanzaar.

  • Actually they are not using voxels in the game. It kind of looks like voxels and several other publishers stated back then that their game is using a voxel engine, they were not lying or anything. It was common to refer to certain visual effect as "voxels" and engines that caused that effect were called voxel engines. But actually most of those games (including Outcast) used ray casting engines and sometimes additional to that one or more other engines.

  • Cant believe no one as done a sequel to this game.

  • A bunch of people are making an unofficial sequel, will probably take a millenium though. Shame the official sequel got cancelled Outcast was the best game ever!

  • Still the best game ever !! All new games are based on graphics. Now take a close look to Outcast. Released in 1999, stunning graphics that (still) makes the world feel realistic and organic. Than the option to talk to EVERY person you see. (eccept enemys^^) and the dialoge system is still amaizing. Than the music and the whole feeling to be a real part of this world. This game makes me dreaming about planets far far away from us !! OUTCAST IS STILL THE NEXT GENERATION GAME !! I WANT OUTCAST 2

  • shhhhhh! quiet! some idiots from Bethesda might hear you.

  • My only problem with this game is that the first gun seem to shoot darts

  • the game never gets old, 10/10 story to it as well.

  • wow, first time I'm seeing this game. Must have been amazing in it's day.

  • It sure was!.....I mean I would like to play the game again now it was so good.

  • its so great to see old games. I have hostile waters antaeus rising and deus ex. wonderful times. I tried need for speed III and it hardly works.

  • Lol now you've said that I cant stop looking at his arms when he runs

  • One of the best games ever. Someone should remake it keeping the voice overs and the music. (NOT Bethesda)

  • True ! i think Bethesda has this one stupid template of making RPG's and totally dumbed down and fucked up Fallout.

  • you sound very mainstream

  • I never got the same organic feel from Oblivion or Fallout 3 as I did with Outcast.

    You sound very mainstream indeed.

Bethesda isnt that awesome and I know alot more people than me that thought that those games really started to wear on them.

  • Hehe, depends on what you mean by mainstream. after Morrowind is very mainstream, before Morrowind not very mainstream. And Morrowind is a little of both. Now, I'm not saying that any of bethesdas games would even come close to the level of the masterpiece that is Outcast, but they are not all that bad either, except for Fallout 3. It suck brutally!

  • @tantrumboy Bethesda brought fallout into the current generation.

A lot of gamers these days have no appreciation for turn based combat.

  • Yeah...Fallout 3 wasnt good as i hoped it to be. Interplay or Black Isle need to release the full version of Van Bueren.

  • @kiintlord There is a Crysis Mod ! Try to search it on youtube !

  • @kiintlord only valve can do cool games now.Bethesda real piece of crap.

  • You can still play it on the newer computers. I just finished the game, which was fantastic. See the english wikipedia article of outcast. There are direction what to do.

If you've got a too high DirectX version (which nowadays is very probable) you've to install a patch. And you'll need a program to temporarily slow you processor. But believe me it's worth it!

  • This game is classic! One of my all time favorites, definately! Unfortunately the game glitches on my computer - the computer is too new I guess... it's a real shame, I miss playing it!

  • OMG OMG OMG I NEVER THOUGHT THIS WOULD BE ON UTUBE ITS LIKE LOOKING IN THE FUTURE GAMING like its 8 yrs lod man i hav it

  • GOD DAMN! i loved this game when I played the demo, I wish i had the full game though..

does this work well with WinXP?

  • Hello! can somebody help me with those Essence idols? I have placed them in the correct order but still those darn steps at the Temple Fae still keep falling down :(

  • If anyone knows where I can get this game please let me know!!

I used to play this at 2001, and just want it so bad!

  • The quests were so interesting - and you really felt like you would explore a new world, the music was perfect - especially the one when you were traveling between the portals. You had to cover during the fights and also think about from which side to attack. Great fantastic game!

  • You said it right!

  • I can't believe how good looking this game is.

  • i loved this game , when i played it :P a longgggggg time ago !

  • Please can somebody post rapidshare links for this game

  • I think I accidentally found it online just now. I havent tried it, but I guess it works. Just google "download free of cost action games outcast". First hit.

Or buy it, its a bargain at about £3.30 anyway!(I'm actually unsure about whether or not this is abandonware)

  • HEY I HAVE THIS WORKING ON VISTA if sombody want it working on vista JUST ASK :)

  • Somebody needs to remake this game!

  • youuu!

  • God freaking damn it, this game was the shit back in the day, and still is awesomely respectful. The graphics were so ahead of it's time...

  • That looks incredible for a 9 year old game.

  • They're both classics,

    sK8nbMx4EVA.

  • shity combat!

  • I remember this game! The last boss was nearly impossible to kill and then I used the flame thrower and he died with one hit! That was funny cuz the scene blacked out for the ending but his minions were still alive and attacking me! Does any one know where this game is available for download?

  • excellent game! one of the best. and it has a bit sad ending - quite unusual for a computer game

  • one of the best games of all time

  • buen video, pero deberias afinar la punteria porque desperdicias muchas balas..salu2

  • see the Outcast TwonHa vid/comments for how I got this brilliant game working in XP!

  • My god, this is the most overrated game of all time. I mean this is the greatest game that no one played...and now we will never get Outcast 2 =(

  • i mean underrated :D

  • somebody should really remake this game ,look at the dialog system it simply blows that one of mass effect AWAY!!

  • Lol, he really does run like a retard. Reminds me of forest gump or something.

  • I cant play it installed it on XP and patches and it gives me loader.exe error WTF. Help

  • I have the same problem under XP, i`ve downloaded anything i can find, but nothing works ;\

  • outcast is a great game

  • He walks like a retard who shat his pants.

  • Haha. I always never understood that why he walked like that. Motion capture was mindblowing back int he day tho. :D

  • Stefan(slaninaafumata) you're so stupid.Go and play you're shity games (BARBY 2008 Gay wars Unreal porn 2007).Let the good games be played by us,the real gamers

  • Go and suck a GIMPO

  • cel mai tare joc care lam vazut vreo data

  • this game is the best i wat to know y they did not get game of the year it had everything good story really good voice acters fun i mean realy fun and adicttive best game it should be the father of all freeroaming Rpg games it waz the best game ever

  • Man the best game ever..I loved it. And i use Cutter's name since 2000 on the internet :)

  • this game had the best music, past 8 years, but I'm still listening:D

  • Of all the games i ever played i only kept 2 box on my shelf: the others where all trashed or sold...

    One is Outcast:

Definitly one pf the best games i ever played. far beyond standards of its time and far better than some of modern games...

the second is Trespasser...do you remmembre the physics, the sense of freedom?... i liked it very much..

Going to add masseffect to my top list... bye!

  • Trespasser! No way, that was cool, but kinda hard. But Outcast, I loved it so much, I should really go back and play it again.

  • I Completed this game 4 times i think... even got it to work under vista. But i use Notebook Hardware control to limit the cpu or else the twon-ha's doesn't work.

  • This is still one of the best games ever and one of the few old games I still play.

  • you're a idiot.. this is one of the greatest games ever.. go and play your kiddie games.

  • let me guess. you are 12 years old and play all this games because you want to be cool. you have no idea from the old games.outcast, c&c tiberian dawn, system shock 1 & 2,dark project, max payne,duke3d,the old unreal (perhaps the unreal tournament 1,too) this was groundbreaking stuff for the gaming industrie.but today the most of the kiddies plays this cs shit and these self reproducing tournament games.good graphics but most of the games are crap.fogive me but you're still an idiot.

  • Yeah. Kid games just like Unreal Tourney, Quake Wars etc. In other words, mindless games designed to appeal to the sort of people who want less story and more explosions.

  • t|-|3 X-p10510|\|z 1n |_||\||'34|_ r g|'34tz

    Let me guess:

You're overweight, leaning on being obese.

You're 11 years old and have never played a game which was made earlier than 2004.

Your favourite game genre is Sci-Fi FPS'.

In terms easier for you to understand -

    I HOPE YOU DIE :)

  • unclereaper's talking the true. Every kid talks about half-life2 is the best game ever and they haven't even tryed hl1 ( i think it is the best game ever). I think the new games graphics are really good, but they don't have the THING what old games have :D

  • New games most of the time lack heart and soul. Just look at the immersivness of Outcast. That game literally SUCKED you into another world. Even if graphics look better today in detail, that graphic from outcast STILL creates such a lifelike feeling, i can't really describe it. It doesn't feel so cold and emotionless like most of todays games.

  • This game brings back so many great gaming memories. The feel of another world with so many great features. If there'd be a new release of this game i'd definatly buy it!

If you havent tried Outcast, try!

    Easily the most underestimated game.

  • This game is mindblowing. Still one of my all time favorite games. Everything about it was way ahead of its time. The AI, the graphics, the open ended gameplay, the soundtrack.

Infogrames should really pick up outcast2 again and start project. Imagine Outcast2, a next-gen game for the ps3/360. holy fuck

  • mate this game is the BOMB....i played it when i was 7 and when i finally got it when i was 15 its just mad...it has that sci fi and stargate feel towards it

  • To me ... the graphics are still absolutely stunning... i mean seriousely... look at hellgate london... not MUCH better.. maybe in DETAIL ( faces and stuff ) but take a look at the whole world.. dont want to start even with the MUSIC....one of the best game soundtracks ever !

  • dont forget the water, the water at the tiem was simply unheard of in gaming. This game came out in like 1999 the water effect were simply stunning! Also the fact that it was a real ope nworld and you could speak to anybody. something only mass effect now tries to emulate but still fails at it

  • This game was so good. The gameplay was so diverse. I bought it when it was released and bought it again sometime later. Even gave it as a gift to somebody cause I wanted him to experience this game. It was so brilliant. Less then a year ago i replayed this game on my laptop but I had to run it on 1 core and underclock the cpu just to get the twon-ha moving. Also a tip: shake your mouse it also sometimes makes the twon-ha moves. The physics don't work well on to fast processors.

  • i love this game. but in german the voices are much better. cutter slade with the german voice of bruce willis sounds really cool. :)

  • This is one of my favourite all-time games, the battles were just so awesome, you could be stealthy if you wanted or just run in there guns a blazing and it was always fun either way. Ahh memories...

  • great video, great game

too bad I never finished it :(

  • The guy who always does the german voice of Bruce Willis, does Cutters voice in the german version. =)

Bleh, I'm stuck -.-. I can't jump on the final plattform leading to the lighttower in Okasankaar. He just won't grab onto it. I don't remember ever having that problem on my old pc *sigh* Oh well, still lots of other things to do =)

  • Yay!!! Maars the best... i played the german version and it was just frickin awesome... AND the german version had the additional benefit of having the german synchro voice of BRUCE WILLIS :) Now how cool is that... and combat was the most advanced i knew from that time... they were just sooo smart... following you through the city streets... and the mortar weapon!!! the UBERWEAPON...*goesinstallthegamerightaway*

  • Wait let me get this straight. Bruce Willis? In german? I don't get it... *searches Internet*

  • his evil nazi clone XD

  • Hehe, me again. IT WORKED!!!! *jumps around*

    Thank you soooo much!!!

I always thought it was just my problem that CD2 didn't work. I would have never thought of looking it up on the internet. So, thank you very much!

I can finally play Outcast again! Me = happy! =D

  • Have fun. Make sure not to skip important bits!

  • I used to play this game all the time... I LOVE it!!!

But for some reason, I can't play it anymore on my computer... SUCKS! *cries*

And after seeing this, I really want to start playing again... meh, sucks to be me.

  • There are several ways to patch Outcast up, so don't worry. It should work! This footage was taken in XP. Just find it on the internet for several solutions.

  • Oh really? Cool, thanks!!

I'll look that up right now. Would be cool if it works. But if it worked for you, than I should be lucky =)

  • The soundtrack of that game is the best I've ever listened.

  • Bought this game, loved it <3

  • one of the best games ever

  • I bought this game as I know what I like and can ignore stupid reviews on game sites/mags. This is one of the most cinematic open action/RPG games ever made! The voxel system meant a high end PC was needed. Now we have those 'high end' PC's, we can play this as intended and it's great! Shame the great intro is in 512x360 or something, but it is still great! The ice spinning in his glass morphing into the vortex was excellent!!! :)

  • bad combat

  • You think? I think it is great, been playing this game for a few days now :) I guess the combat could have been better, but i see no major flaws

  • havent played it but god damm it how many times do you have to shoout someone?

  • I think it takes seven or eight shots to kill the normal kind of soldier in the beginning. When you get better weapons it takes less, and when you manage to weaken them...well then you only have to sneeze at them.

  • hmmm killing aint easy is it? i mean battling each outher for hours is a bit lame, how is it like?

  • It is rather cool, you do it in the normal Fps or third person way, run around and fire etc. It gets much harder when their numbers are picking up (like when attacking a garrison), and when you encounter elite soldiers. To me the plot is what draws me in, not the actual fighting, but i still like it, especially when you fight tough opponents and you try to finish them off before they can call for reinforcements etc. Go download it or buy it or something, it is a great game.

  • hmm elites, not everyone is an elite like fear nice story too, hmm is it easy does it has a huge word, or you stupidly roam around without purpose like morrowind?

  • Hah, no nothing like morrowind. It has a huge world, split into smaller parts. There is tons of things to do, and most everything follows the main plot.

  • nice, is it easy, i mean i am tired of people making walkthruth which they suck, so why to make them or ask for users make requests to paly games that they dont know i hate, so why to make them? confused me too thats why am asking, is it easy because the player doesnt rule on this vid!

  • Well, easy, I don't know about that, but it isn't THE hardest game i have ever tried, nor the easiest. Somewhere in the middle among games like Prince of Persia and Red Alert. I haven't finished it tough, so I don't know how hard the last bit is.

  • Some of the best memories I have of this game are fighting soldiers and sneaking up on those enemy bases. Oh! And attacking the temple in Talanzaar was awesome. xD.

  • When you advance in the game, you'll will be able to weaken the soldiers by, for example, stop riss-production!

I found this game in a normal gameshop a couple of weeks ago. guess i was happy to find this game! yepp.

definetly one of the best games ever made...

  • I played the demo years ago, but finally I managed to buy this game a week ago and it came today. I think I know what I'll be doing for next couple of days/weeks.

  • I love the atmosphere and sense of exploration in this game. The cartoony looking, yet organic feeling graphics of this game somehow suit it perfectly, and the whole openness of it all seems excellent. I think I just might buy this.

  • This Talan is very Stupid, Maar, lol

  • wonder why the guy's gun is so weak. you gotta pump like 50 bullets into one of those things before they die..

  • Yeah huh? The problem is I was fighting enemies I shouldn't fight at the time: That gun is the first you get, and it's on the first level of damage. But the game was very open..a bit TOO open. You can skip parts of the game if yer not too careful. :D

  • The gun isn't weak, you just gotta aim at the head. Or simply use a bigger gun like the Hawk MK-3. ;-)

    Definitely the Best Action-Adventure-RPG ever!

  • maar forever

  • that was pretty cool. Makes me wanna find this game again.

  • great!!
