@jkmrph1 these aren't recreational fishermen i'm talking about, they are commercially used and run around the clock, sometimes for days and only stop for refueling. my personal evinrude has about 3 thousand hours on it and that was put on over years. bought it new in 2002 but is a 2003 model.

Yam and Merc are the best offshore outboards out there. Evinrude wont last long on an offshore fishing boat. Keep them in for lakes and bass boats.

i'm not hating on the verado, its actually a really quiet motor but why is it heavier than all the other companies when its engine block is smaller then the rest of the motors of it's size? i know its block is smaller because it has the supercharger to make up for the horsepower but shouldn't it be lighter then everyone else's four strokes? leave the two strokes out...they're always lighter than any fourstroke, i own a direct injected two stroke and it's great...

Wrong....old 2 stroke good for performance...high torque, but all are fuel drinker and produce high emission .....easiest solution...go for 4 stroke less emission, low FC....but with new DI two stroke such as etec, optimax and HPDI...it easily outperform 4 stroke

evinrudes are the best. this mercury is still a fourstroke(accelerates slower than 2stroke) and evinrude etecs are improved 2 stroke engines which accelerate extremely fast. and yamahas only good engine is vmax. which is like etec but not as good.

@cvcgac they are, i have one and i think it'll out last my boat....evinrudes are the best on the market by far i don't care what you tell me. the etec is proven to use less fuel than fourstrokes, it's proven to be cleaner than any other outboard on the market and it won a clean air excellence award by the EPA which no outboard company has except evinrude. the coast guard is now starting to use etecs...go figure

@seadoospeedsterful no i don't but i have one with thousands of hours on it and it runs perfect. and no that's not their only market speech, these motor's are proven to outlast your heavy ass four poke. have you even been in a ranger with a new 250 H.O. those boats run in the mid 70's out of the factory. can your heavy ass verado do that? and can you run your motor full throttle right out of the box? i sure can. while all the merc guys are breaking in their motors the e-team is practicing lol

ahh well, im the observer of "silent black" and no its not some dumb American brand of boat, i run it on a Bullet 2100 s, pulled two 80kg F1 guys across the line in the Mildura 100 at 88mph.

its in this video, winning of course as the E tec is trailing hopelessly.

@seadoospeedsterful o and you want to explain to me why all the verado's that the fishermen and coast guard use up here start loosing compression and making oil after 5 thousand hours? I know this because i volunteer for the coast guard and i've seen it. This year my unit repowered a 25' SAFE boat with twin 250 etecs from verado's and now they have a higher top speed by 10 mph and use 2 gallons per hour less!! The verado's were proped just fine but didn't produce.

@seadoospeedsterful Are you sure the Verado was the same hp as the E-TEC in the video? The block of the 250 is the same of the 300 and 350 and they all look the same in size....if the verado had more hp than the E-TEC then obviously it's going to win. Notice how the E-TEC is right behind the Optimax 250, that's a believable race and look at the new ranger boats that are coming out, they're running in the mid 70's from the factory with E-TEC's on the back...can't do it with an Optimax.

@fishaholic2012 Nope we compete in S.M.O.H.C which is un modified out of the box 250's class. A ranger ? i dont know what that is we dont have bass boats in Australia, most off the shelf ski boat with 225 hp or more are capable of 80mph.

@seadoospeedsterful Ok sounds like a fair race then, I'm sure they're fast motors and all but I wouldn't count on them for getting me back home on an off shore boat or for a commercial application...they just don't last. Ranger makes all kinds of boats, not just bass boats, they make saltwater boats, multi species, flats and general purpose boats that can be used for skiing. Look up the youtube vid Evinrude E tec 250 H O Infinity 02. It's a ski boat that goes 102 MPH. Try that with a verado.

@SloppierTAY Actually, all the little wimpy bass boats around my area that can't handle a 1' wave are overwhelmingly powered by Yamahas and Mercurys. Typically real boats (Grady, BW, Bertram) are powered or repowered by Yamaha hdpi or Evinrude/Johnsons.

Faintly can hear traces of the timeless 2-stroke Inline-6 Mercurys in that motor. Not near enough of it though. If I get one, I'd ask the dealer: "Can you take some of the silencing out of it?  I want it to sound like my old 2-stroke Inline-6 Tower of Power motor."

With Optimax, or Etec for that matter, you're adding oil a lot more often, and it's not exactly cheap.
