We need to reduce the number of wolves back to the 1980s level. There are no elk left because these things are killing them off at alarming rates. The frigging animal activists don't have a clue what's going on.
@Hoehand66 go die. what is it about wolves that makes people hate them? sure, they kill other animals, but what else are they gonna do? make a salad?! and sure they attack humans sometimes, but if a guy was coming at me with a gun i'd attack him too! i wish you luck finding a heart. these are amazing animals. you deserve to die far more then they do.
each wolf will eat 1.5 tons a year of wild game. they wipe out everything. currently elk herds are being extremely impacted due to these damn things. they dont belong here!!!!
were not gonna have any elk or moose left here in a while. . . i shoot every wolf i can just so i can hunt elk next year. if you enjoy wolves. please eat a 45 ACP round. Thanks
@forgetsubtletactics I'm confused on what you said..Why do you think you have the right to kill an Elk and the wolf doesnt?Wolf and Elk were in the rookies A thousand years ago and lived in balance just fine.We wipe them out in 1939..The Elk population dropped. In 1969 it hit a low again of less than 3900 in the north. There were no wolves around. The gray wolf is not a treat to the Elk population.Overly human quotas to hunt Elk is the only threat to them.Hunt quotas need to be cut in half.
@panaclean775 - You are confused ! When Elk numbers dropped befor there was a bottom . With the wolf there is no bottom , that is why they call it a "Predator Pit" . They closed Hunting in Gardiner , there are people who pay taxes and were taxed for businesses that were built around hunting and hunters and Wildlife photographers . that is all gone and won't be coming back. Your 3900 Elk are at 1200 and the Bulls are being butchered in Taylors Drainage this morning.
@panaclean775 - You bring up an interesting point , the Right to Hunt ! Mont , Wyo and Idaho are passing legislation making it a" Right" . When this becomes Law all the Big Game will need to be restored and the wolf is not very adept at restoration and if anything will present a real problem whos job it is to maintain a Huntable population !
@TheFreecoyote The wolf numbers do indeed need to be lowered and monitored.Congress and the States are setting the quota's..I think it might be a little to high but there will be a minimum wolf herd count that will be set.Once the wolf number control season is over you must be very careful and be able to defend when you kill a gray wolf. The Grays are vcery protected and the justices law set on this is very harsh. If it comes in your yard,You cant just kill unless you prove it was going for stock.
@panaclean775 - The Right to kill an Elk for me is different than the Right to kill an Elk for the wolf . I am governed by Ethics and the wolf is not . In 1826 there was no Big Game in Idaho , trappers had to kill their horses to get home. In 1826 Wolves were managing Wildlife in the Rockies . Hunters built the greatest elk Herd the world has ever seen , not the wolf . This wolf is not the Timber Wolf , this wolf is a sub- species and 3-4 times as big and 1000 times more deadly !
@TheFreecoyote I dont know what you mean about the greatest herd that man built.Man wiped out the Elk around 1900 in the rooky and around regions. They were re-introduced around 1913.White man wiped out the Bison and The Gray wolf which have been in those regions for Yes Thousands of years together. They never wiped out eachs packs of exisitance. The numbers will go up and down with each pack thru the years. Its natural. The Gray wolf is Not going to wipe out the Elk.Human hunts on Elk need to lower.
@panaclean775 - You need to look at YOUR version of History again . Trappers had to eat their horses in 1826 to make it out of Idaho . When did all those Elk show up that you have fantasized ?
@TheFreecoyote I really dont know what or where your at..The American/Canadian Beaver fur trade indust.Trade treaty was going in full effect in those days.Ashley henry,Ashley smith,Smith jackson were the pioneers of the fur trading in those days.I dont recall ever hearing of them killing there horses to make it out of the state.Bison was just about absolete by them from over hunting.Elk herd numbers have always been up and down. They were wiped out of the rookies by 1890.So I who knows..
@panaclean775 - You need to look at YOUR version of History again . Trappers had to eat their horses in 1826 to make it out of Idaho , there was no Big Game. When did all those Elk show up that you have fantasized ? The wolf that was almost made extinct was the Timber Wolf . That Wolf was killed by these Imports ( see 1997 Court case )
@TheFreecoyote Once again..TheTimber wolk is a subspecies of the Gray wolf.If you could be more specific on this Import animal would help. The Gray wolf has been in the North America's for over 8000 years. This is just fact. When the first white man settlers came into the rookies and first saw the Elk they thought it was the Moose.Elk is the european name of Moose. Then they thought it was just a larger bread of the red deer. But later it was found thru dna test that Elk is its own species. No fantasy
@TheFreecoyote The Gray wolf in the north roookies was almost wiped out.The north american gray wolf has been around for ages.I believe what your talking about is the other subspecies of the gray wolf. The Canadian mackenzie gray wolf.It is a little larger and wasnt a know native to the rookies where it was put in 1995.It has become the dominate wolf in the rookies. It is still a gray wolf.Just a different sub of it.I still dont recall your trappers. Not saying your lying.I just dont recall.
@panaclean775 - gET THE nON-nATIVE cANADIAN OUT OF MY HOUSE AND i WILL SEND YOU THE ARTICLE. 1997 court case determined Yellowstone wolf was a species ( see Cat urbigkit)
For all you IGNORANT WOLFABOOS - WYOMING WON IT'S LAWSUIT ! Wolves are now considered a predator on 90% of the State , which means they can be shot on sight legally .
Now ask yourself why ? Why would we shoot something that U love , well we had to ask ourselves why would you decimate our Elk which we Love ? I think those of us who live here know the answer to that one ! You are " Evil SonsaBitches" . The wolf didn't do anything but turn your Environmental Fantasy into wolf shit !
@TheFreecoyote I think the people just put the gray wolf back where it has been for over a thousand years living with the Elk.You act like this is something that has never been done before.HAHA..Wolf were hunting Elk before red man knew how to make spear. This is not a demacracy and it was decided that for some reason some people wanted to do harm to the elk on purpose. This is the way it was meant to be.Hunt quotas on the Elk just need to be lowered.Wolf has the right to kill Elk as much as you.
@panaclean775 - This wolf is not the Wolf that hunted the Elk for thousands of years . The Red Man never knew this wolf . This is not a Democracy, it is a Republic . Some people wanted to do harm to the American West , we said no to the wolf they brought it anyway . I don't have the right to kill all the Elk and neither does the Wolf . The wolf has killed 90,000 Elk and all the Moose HAHA this has never been done befor , there are more Wolves in Yellowstone per sq mile than Alaska.
@TheFreecoyote WTF are you talking about??The red wolf(Timber in North America)is a subspecies that is FROM the Gray Wolf. The first of there kind Grays were here around 10,000 years ago.The Gray derived from the Canis Lepophagus. The same as the Coyote. The Grey Wolf was here before the Red man and absolutly before White man.The Elk have been here for 2-5 million years..This wolf is the largest of the species and is the same wolf thats been here.I dont know where your heads at..
okay, this is the worst video directing from the title, when do you see the wolf killing the elk? the must rename this video to "wolves hunt and killing elk STORY" jeez (in your pants)
There are more Apex Predators in the three state area of Idaho, Mont and Idaho than there are in Alaska . Alaska has 8-11,000 Wolves. There are 6,000 in the West and 3,000 in Michigan and Minn. Alaska is 375 million acres divided by 11,000 = 34 wolves per million acres. In Yellowston there are 1,500 to 3,000 per million acres.....and Grizzly's starving ! Yellowstone is a Cluster Fuck !
Well if humans didn't surround the area with farms and cattle they would not be a problem. Also don't animal numbers in America were literally 10 times higher before human settlement. Elk numbers were reduced by 95%. Bison literally 99.9%+ from 65 million to under 10,000 wild.
The problem like any other problem in the world involving animals is always caused by humans. If a predator is responsible for a decline of another species, theres always human factors.
@Swiftab1e - Read what I wrote again ! If there were no humans at all , THERE ARE STILL MORE WOLVES PER ACRE IN YELLOWSTONE THAN IS FOUND IN ALASKA ......very unnatural ! You and your bunch of Wolfaboos have done a remarkably poor job . Who suffers in the end , the Wolf !
And guess what theres literally hundreds of reasons for that, all human caused, your argument has no basis,
Humans bordering the area and cattle ranchers are the only things that is not natural. Natue always takes care of it self in the end without humans.
Its like rednecks saying elephants need to be huntered to control their numbers when they go to Africa. Do you know why there are so many in areas now. its because they have been confined and cut off to a limited area.
@Swiftab1e - My argument has no basis ??? Are you serious ??? The wolf was gone , you wanted him back ! What part of that are you not responsible for ? He was fine in Canada , lot's of room , now he is trapped and starving and it is you who made this happen . I have to say you hate the Wolf more than I do , I wouldn't knowingly make an animal starve and as soon as I knew I was responsible I would move heaven and earth to correct the situation ! But not YOU ASSHOLES !
WTF are you going on about, I never advocated for the wolf to be back, I know it shouldn't be introduced in any shape or form,
All that I m doing is pointing out is that humans factors will always be responsible for the decline of other species not the wolf.
Also in Canada attacks on cattle still happen alot, as the population surges which it has been it will get worse and worse. The situation pretty much applies everywhere else with wolves. Wolves will always be in conflict
This is common to see where I live. Most of the time its cattle or people dogs that get eaten in there yards. It wont be long. The parks and woods wont have elk and deer. The bears where I live are getting killed off too. Im thinking I should start videoing what I see every week. I just wish they could of just kept the wolves at least in yellowstone. we have more wolves than any state. Im tired of not getting sleep. When I lost my dog on my porch. it made me so mad. poeple dont know
I really don't like hearing, "Run little girl," and that kind of talk. It helps to facilitate the bambi syndrome. Next stop - no more wolves in the lower 48 because they kill cute animals. They are made out to be bad. God clearly knows what he's doing. Save your effeminate emotions for your own world and not the world of wild creatures.
@Mont556n Because you got rid of the Timberlands in the 1930s. If you didn't do that, you wouldn't have Canadian Grey Wolves. :P You screwed up! NOW suffer.
@Mont556n Elk are highley populated in Yellowstone. If wolves were a threat to their extinction, we wouldn't have put them there. Don't worry. ^_^
*To everyone blaming people for putting them there, there is no where else or them to go because of us. Because of what we did to where they used to live. So stop complaining.
@WildfireWarriorcat Really? Maybe go there and see.....and it will only get worse...less than 5,000 left now, and less than 10% of the calves are making it to one year old. Moose are now almost nonexistant in the park, down to only 114 animals IN THE WHOLE AREA!. Those people who put them those wolves in yellowstone should be put in jail, and never let out!
its pretty convenient to forget that winter takes a huge toll on elk populations isnt it you bunch wolf hating dumbfucks. its just as retarded as those protesters who said wolves are nature killers
@honeyputdowndaknife Winters? Yea, sure. In deep snow, one wolf can kill 5 or 6 elk at a time, and not even bother to eat them....yea, winter is the problem....get a clue.
@outlawdad74 yeah they go around preaching jihad to kill off their own food source. you are retarded, why would god make an animal a terrorist? that would be us not wolves
@honeyputdowndaknife@Silvermoonwolfkaala Check out saveelk.org. Gray wolves are sport killers. They like to eat baby elk out of their mothers and leave the mothers to die... after having their unborn calves eaten right out of their asses. THAT is what makes me say that. And honey, I am far from retarded, you little shit.
@outlawdad74 you forget animals have no morals and elk don't give a flying fuck about you maybe the settlers in the east were better than wolves when they exterminated the elk then. wolves and natives didn't exterminate them ohh yeah it was your fucking trigger happy ancestors and there bullshit morality. maybe you can ask god why the natural world is the way it is instead of calling me a little shit, cowboy
Hopefully we get our wolf management program figured out and defender of wildlife, finally gets shut out. They don't care about wolves, just there very full bank account. . .this video is correct. .this is the Yellowstone experience; Everyday, watching an overpopulated species wipe out game herds. . yay!
@eggylucy Add me please! My name is Amy Pearl on there. :D I am out hunting elk right now with my pack on my other comp. lolz I lied saying I was resting for a second.. I wish I could get full speed and stamina easily with a cheat they all confuse me. xD
@AvatarFanGirl28 sorry i cant play on it anymore relay unfortunatly. beacuse my computer stop working so we had to buy a relat old graphics computer and i cant play it anymore sorry 2 let u down :' (
BIGSKYHAL50, that is not the point. I know elk aren't surviving as they should, but that DOES NOT give the right for people to exterminate them. Just relocate them in the places we need them in.
It has already happened, the Elk are gone! I counted 250 Bull Elk sub tract that from 4,200 and that leaves 3,950 cows that are probably 75% open ( Not preg). The wolves are used to eating the Elk "Big Mac" ..... with that gone ,where do they go ?
and i personally don't care they kill elk becuase.. well thats how they live! and i mean the elk kills the grass when they eat it! no one cares about that!
I was in Jackson Hole on the 12 of Feb there are only 4200 Elk on the Feed Ground. 3 yrs ago there were 17,000. This summer will see alot of the wolves leaving the Park and running into the many guns that bristle along Yellowstones borders. I'd like to think of this summer as the "Summer of Love".
It was a severe mistake to put these wolves into yellowstone in the first place. The question remains. Will there be any elk left in the park in another 10 years?
The elk were overpopulated so its a good thing their numbers were culled. There's no reason to believe there won't be any more elk in ten years. Save the wolves! (from people like you)
BIGSKYHAL50, I see that calves are not surviving as they should. That's why people need to stop building in the wilderness. Its not the wolves fault that elk are easier to catch because they have nowhere to run.
@wq47Dyami you serious? No where to run? Not the problem. The problem is that those elk need 30% of their young to survive to have a viable population. Less than 10% are surviving. The elk in yellowstone are doomed. Regardless of what the prowolf biologists from the park are saying, simple math dictates it. They are doomed.
@BIGSKYHAL50, maybe you don't know this, but elk can breed. Thats why they exist. They won't just dissapear because wolves kill them! Cats kill frogs. There are still frogs to this day. Bunnies eat grass. We still see grass, don't we? O.o
@wolf9623 yes, I did say 10%. 10%, 5%, whats the difference? That is not an adequate survival rate by any means. In another 5 years, you will go to the park to see nothing but geysers, nothing else will be left.........
The elk towards the end seemed to be using the cameramen as deterents by running by them. I've read of this happening. The wolf was not detered much by the humans' presence, as s/he came at least as close. Some of the wolves didn't seem very afraid of humans at all, as people were told to get back in there cars earlier on. May have been to keep from overstressing the wolf, but if it came that close to humans in the 1st place, there might have been another concern
@hidethisnine - I am sad to say that our forefathers were much better people than the people we have today. I'm afraid that when all the wildlife is gone and the Wolves are killing each other they will just blame it on "Global Warming".
Wolves were eating elk long before human hunters came about. I feel really saddened for the elk, but wolves have to eat, and that elk supplied them with the nutrients through the meat to build proteins and help the wolves survive.
yea..wolves have been known to chase their prey for 20 miles....wolves are marathon runners 4real. Plus their speed and strength. Makes them elite predators in my opinion. [[[Wolves are kool LOL]]] the wolf coulda still had a quick snack and munched on the camera man real quick..and still prolly woulda caught the other one runnin..[[hahaha}}
U owe National Elk Foundation $1000.00 which you have yet to pay. The Wolf was gone for 80 yrs- Extinct ! How could he own anything ? You are an Immigrant, using your logic you need to go back to Poland. You have no right to be here ! Your Family caused the Extinction of the Wolf ! Like I said the Donation to the Elk Foundation would cover alot of your families attrocities against Wildlife. Counseling-$22,000.00 ! Make things right pay your bills - No one eats for free not even the W
Wolves get their food from the Hunters who created the Elk Herds . Environmentalists have created nothing ! Conservationists created the World of Wildlife that Environmentalists are Slaughtering today. Your Wolf most certainly gets his food from the Market- how do you think Limpy made it so long. You owe the National Elk Foundation $1000.00 and Freecoyote $20,000.00
A few days before the third wolf attack on the Peavey sheep occurred, Will Graves, author of Wolves in Russia, was discussing surplus (spree) killing by wolves with biologists in Montana. The biologists reportedly expressed doubt that it really happens but the following day wolves killed 120 purebred Rambouillet breeding bucks in a private pasture south of Dillon worth $350 each.
Annie 7 - Hunters own that Elk that YOUR W is Eating, not u !
Scientists are aware of surplus killing. People like you to think that wolves are killing for "fun" and for "sport". Wolves don't get their food from the market.
You have to remember that this hunt of the elk was not harassment or a kill for fun, it was for survival for the wolves. I feel really saddened for the elk, but wolves have to eat, and that elk supplied them with the nutrients through the meat to build proteins and help the wolves survive. You hunters complain that wolves kill for fun, which is proven not to be true by biologists, but than again, if these wolved didn't kill the elk for food, you hunters would have killed her for sport!
.... I proved you wrong before, and have done it again. You people are arguing against biologists, scientists and experts believing you are right, and the professionals are wrong.
...You do know that natural causes also contribute to deaths, right? You do know that 86 wolves killing more than 3,000 elk is absolutely insane when you put into effects of stamina and timing of the kills, right? The 3,000 or so elk dieing are mainly due to disease, competition, climate and some from predation.
...That is why the big game prey population has been increasing since than and entering rural areas, right? Deer population currently is 30 million in the states, elk and caribou is more than 10 million in N. America. Hey Freecoyote; my sources I gave you proved you to be wrong in your 3,000 or so of elk dieing in Yellowstone.
The september 2009 report of only 3 wolves killing 120 sheep is an exageration. How can 3 wolves with low stamina kill 120 sheep without the famer noticing it? Isn't it weird that the story came out just 2 days prior to the court's decision on whether or not to relist the wolves as endangered? It is a flat out lie brought about by hunters to have evidence in court. We did not do fine without them. It hasn't been 100 years, it has been about 70 years.
I divided the 20,000 Elk killed in the N Yellowstone herd by 86 Wolves and came up with 77.5 Elk a year which means that you actually saved 5,659 . If I'm right you might see one next season. The Moose in Wyoming are gone . As the Elk vanish so will the few Big Horn Sheep that the Coyotes haven't gotten. The Worry is the Buffalo - there are only 3500 .
Well, at least we got 73 this year. That amounts to about 1000 head of elk that will survive, 102 moose, many bighorn sheep. They can eat all the deer they can catch.....Hopefully next years quota will be double that.
Can these video's be used as Evidence of Breech of Public Trust ? The original number of Wolves that we were told would be in Yellowstone has been exceeded by a bunch. Does that open the door for action on behalf of the Wolf based on Reckless Endangerment of an Endangered Species thru Gross Negligence ?? Where would you file and can you sue National Park on behalf of the Elk or would it be better to sue on behalf of the Wolf- using Elk as proof of Gross Negligence and Wanton Waste?
they don't sport kill. Geez everyone is hating on wolfs they are either little puppies or evil killing for the fun killing fifty elk at a time animals! this is complete bull just shutup if you don't know what your talking about the wolfs don't kill us there are only like three cases in the u.s. they will only go after you if you hunt them or are a threat but i still respect them and hope to hunt them someday. couldn't everyone just lay of wolfs.
hmmm, Dillion, Montana, Sep. 2009, a pack of wolves went into a sheep pasture and killed 120 buck sheep, never ate any of them. Does that sound like sport killing?
speaking of having no idea what one is saying. TheDumbChallenger apparently has his/her head up their ass. be careful and try not to slip and fall on your own stupidity.
Your the one talking about sport killing but you apparently don't know crap about wolves and are some immature person trying to be bad talking about peoples heads up their asses, I think you just go to randon videos and talk about stuff you don'nt know about.
i live in montana and I get out, and i have seen what the wolves do. you are looking at the wolves through emotional bifocals. arguing about this with someone like you, logically impaired, is a waste of time. Don't get me wrong, sometimes they kill for what they need, but many more times they rip out the the fetuses or hamstring them and leave the animal to die over a long period of time. I am sure you will not look this up to verify. look it up.
wolves dont kill a lot of elk. They kill the old and young and sick and do what they need to survive. Its not that there are few elk now its that there were too many before because there were no wolves. People have to learn that wolves are part of nature and keep things in balance. They are essential.
I loved watching these wolves. One of the coolest things I have ever seen. I watched them hunt this elk for four hours. They were very skilled in their technique. This elk was not weak, old or sick in any way. She outran them several times. They just wore her out. Wolves don't only kill the weak animals in a herd. They kill to eat, but pick their prey. They have killed a lot of elk in Yellowstone. A LOT! I have been filming there for over 20 years. The wolves are making an impact, good or bad
@Togeita Perhaps the native timber wolves. The Canadian Gray wolves introduced in the United States in Idaho and Wyoming are a nuisance that needs to be exterminated. My guess is that they've already driven our native species/subspecies to extinction. Do the research. Timberwolves max out at 55 to 60 pounds and hunt in pairs. You don't see the huge packs you see in some of these videos.
@cmartel2 Do the research yourself. Do remember that throughout the 1930s, wolves were exterminated throughout the United States (Native subspecies) and because they were in such low numbers, we were forced to reintroduce Canadian residents. Wolves that weren't meant to BE in Idaho. So, the nuisance you speak of is what we tried to reintroduce, because the natives specie was wiped out. We, sadly, were the nuisance.
@casienwhey That's simply wrong. Since wolves have been introduced in the Lolo Elk Management area in, elk populations have plummetted from 13,559 to 2178 in March 2010. Bodies of slaughtered elk litter the landscape--uneaten and mostly female. Both regions have seen an 80% decline in the elk population. Note, too, that the wolves actually native to the US have most likely been driven extinct, as well. Canadain Gray Wolves were introducued--not timberwolves (which only hunt in pairs).
@cmartel2 Then again, what else can you reintroduce? The Timberwolves which were natives to North America have been exterminated within our very own nation. We have nothing else. Sure, the Canadian Grey Wolf is in fact becoming a problem, but what else can take its place as an Apex Predator? If you allow the elk herds to grow by themselves without wolves to feed off of them, they will eventually become overpopulated. And that will lead to their own demise.
Wow Einstein, where did you come up with that theory? Wolves eat 24-25 elk per year, not counting the sport killing. Wolves also kill deer, and moose, and I would say our moose population has been nearly wiped out. If you were to take those figures, wolves are killing over 25k-30k elk per year, that's right THOUSAND! In Idaho alone. Best estimates are only 75,000 elk left. So your brilliant lunacy will doom the elk in Idaho to extinction in under five years.
@Ieatbabyseals No. Wolves RARELY EVER KILL PEOPLE. I'm sick of people saying that. The only time when wolves DO hurt people is when dumbasses mess around with them. People are just a bunch of pansies who seek to destroy every living thing that is a "threat" to them. GET USED TO IT. That is how is always was before we destroyed the world. If ANYTHING, WE should be wiped out.
Wolves were reintroduced to Wisconsin only recently. There are about 120 of them. There have already been like 10 dogs killed because of them. Could just as easily be children.
I have been going there for about 22 years now. I have never seen so few Elk. This is my first encounter with Wolves close up. I do believe they are killing a lot of Elk. Hopefully there will be a balance for both species
oh, I agree. I get accused of being a "wolf hater" on here, but thats not really true. I certainly hope they balance out. The biggest problem I have with wolves is that we cannot control the population outside the park, in particular when they start eating cattle, sheep, horses, and dogs. We have to have FEDERAL people come in. If they allowed us to do that, we would definitely cull some wolves, but it would be to their benefit in the long run and the controversy would be over.
The other point is that I wonder if the elk will survive that many wolves in one area. Anoter point is wolves outside the park. We have had wolves for about 5 years now. Our local elk herd winter count was about 300-400 animals. Last year it was down to 40. I don't know, maybe they moved? Well, we have wolves now. I guess I get kind of mad when I see my familys hunting traditions go out the window for wolves. Same thing is happening around the park. I like wild things, but not so...
I did go down to Teton National Park, and the Elk are still very abundant there. I suspect that as food sources diminish in Yellowstone, the wolves will venture further and further away. That could be devestating for all parties involved. I am disappointed in the large number of declining Elk population inside the park. It is interesting to hear what is happening outside.
did you guys know that wolfs are not in packs by nature, it's just in montana and wyoming and those lower 48 states they can't grow over 200lbs. so they go in to packs because they are not as big as alaskan and canadian wolf(which are huge) so they work together to bring down massive animals. The huge northern wolves will be able to break their preys back with their massive arms and tear the preys throat open.
ok, but the sad truth is that the wolves came from canada. The same place your canadian wolves are from. They are large (largest shot 170 lbs in Montana this year). The point is they can take down an Alaska moose, which is much larger than our moose. This is probably why we have so few moose left in the areas wolves occupy. Regardless of what the prowolf people tell you, these wolves were not the original wolves in the area, they are much larger, they are canadian wolves.
What I mean (and should have said) is that guess what other canid started out in places like montana?COYOTE and wolves are smaller in the lower 48 because of crossbreding with coyotes. have'nt you noticed that large wolves tend to be black. instead of that color that coyotes made more abundant in wolves. Oh, and by the way, so few wolves have been taken that the records are'nt even close to wolves full potential size.
crossbreeding? Doubt that. Wolves kill coyotes, crossbreeding? You must have read that in some book. The "original" wolves in Montana were on the plains. I am sure there were some in the mountains, but the amount of game, such as in lewis and clarks time, was minimal in the mountains. That is why the tribes who lived in the mountains (and not by choice) went to the plains to hunt buffalo. Alot of them ate fish..Why? little game. We did not have the farming that enabled large game herds
@BIGSKYHAL50 When you actually look at the raw numbers you find that the proportion of kills from hunting is vastly greater than the numbers of wolf kills. Also it is well documented that wolves usually take the weak and vulnerable, whereas humans take more animals in their prime.
@outdoorvideoclips The Canadian grays which were wrongly introduced into our wild are known to wipe out entire moose populations in the Yukon. They then begin eating one another. Our nation has committed a crime by introducing these wolves into our wild. They will soon be destroying our ranches and killing our housepets.
@cmartel2 I agree in terms of the Canadian residents becoming a problem. They are, in fact, wiping the elk out. And we could have problems within our back yards. But what can we do? We cannot have wildlife maintain itself without an apex predator. Guess the fault goes on us. We wiped our species out and had no other choice but to reintroduce a new species. Once that does not belong here.
@Togeita yes but that apex predator is us as hunters. we don't kill another farmers livestock without permission, kill game animals for sport, or kill a cow elk while pregnant just to rip the calves out to eat like the wolves do. we are a much more humaine predator than the wolves. yes we wiped the species out in the 20's due to problems but sorry you're wrong when you say we had no other choice but to reintroduce a new species. side note they were reintroduced WITHOUT consent from state gov't 2
@buglechaser05 your logic is sadly delusional since when is nature humane you fucking fuzzy minded see the world conveniently pink retard. wolves are wolves dont compare them to us. go look up horrendous and fucked up things people do then come back and say we are more humane then wolves
@honeyputdowndaknife listen here dick wad. i never said humans are all smart and humaine, i agree we are pretty stupid sometimes i mean look at you. i simply said wolves are LESS humaine. when have you seen a video of a wolf killing an animal quickly without long suffering? NEVER. i know it does happen with some hunters to make a bad shot but most of us (i know your little brain can't comprehend this) but most of us use a more HUMAINE and quick method is all i was sayin.
@buglechaser05 wow you hurt my feelings learn how to write before coming to insult me and then you can give your opinion without being a little bitch about it
@honeyputdowndaknife Haha too funny... you telling me I need to "learn how to write"; all while including it in a terribly long run on sentence! You are a joke. If you haven't thought about suicide, do all of the world a favor and start!
@buglechaser05 as if i would ever kill my self, dude i would kill you with a baseball instead without a second thought and i wouldn't lose sleep over it. see i can be childish and make cheap suicide jokes too!
@buglechaser05 *30. And no, a hunter is no apex predator. The reason behind why your elk are fading so quickly is simple: Because the lands used to belong to wolves. Secondly, it is't just wolves who kill live stock, but coyotes, and wild dogs. Another quick fact by the way: Hunters cannot control the environment. After the Timberland was wiped out in the 30s-50s, elk became overpopulated. Eventually, they became too dangerously high in the 90s, and there came the wolves!
We need to reduce the number of wolves back to the 1980s level. There are no elk left because these things are killing them off at alarming rates. The frigging animal activists don't have a clue what's going on.

forgetsubtletactics 11 months ago
@forgetsubtletactics I'm confused on what you said..Why do you think you have the right to kill an Elk and the wolf doesnt?Wolf and Elk were in the rookies A thousand years ago and lived in balance just fine.We wipe them out in 1939..The Elk population dropped. In 1969 it hit a low again of less than 3900 in the north. There were no wolves around. The gray wolf is not a treat to the Elk population.Overly human quotas to hunt Elk is the only threat to them.Hunt quotas need to be cut in half.
panaclean775 10 months ago
@panaclean775 - You are confused ! When Elk numbers dropped befor there was a bottom . With the wolf there is no bottom , that is why they call it a "Predator Pit" . They closed Hunting in Gardiner , there are people who pay taxes and were taxed for businesses that were built around hunting and hunters and Wildlife photographers . that is all gone and won't be coming back. Your 3900 Elk are at 1200 and the Bulls are being butchered in Taylors Drainage this morning.
TheFreecoyote 10 months ago
@panaclean775 - You bring up an interesting point , the Right to Hunt ! Mont , Wyo and Idaho are passing legislation making it a" Right" . When this becomes Law all the Big Game will need to be restored and the wolf is not very adept at restoration and if anything will present a real problem whos job it is to maintain a Huntable population !
TheFreecoyote 10 months ago
@TheFreecoyote The wolf numbers do indeed need to be lowered and monitored.Congress and the States are setting the quota's..I think it might be a little to high but there will be a minimum wolf herd count that will be set.Once the wolf number control season is over you must be very careful and be able to defend when you kill a gray wolf. The Grays are vcery protected and the justices law set on this is very harsh. If it comes in your yard,You cant just kill unless you prove it was going for stock.
panaclean775 10 months ago
@panaclean775 - The Right to kill an Elk for me is different than the Right to kill an Elk for the wolf . I am governed by Ethics and the wolf is not . In 1826 there was no Big Game in Idaho , trappers had to kill their horses to get home. In 1826 Wolves were managing Wildlife in the Rockies . Hunters built the greatest elk Herd the world has ever seen , not the wolf . This wolf is not the Timber Wolf , this wolf is a sub- species and 3-4 times as big and 1000 times more deadly !
TheFreecoyote 10 months ago
@TheFreecoyote I dont know what you mean about the greatest herd that man built.Man wiped out the Elk around 1900 in the rooky and around regions. They were re-introduced around 1913.White man wiped out the Bison and The Gray wolf which have been in those regions for Yes Thousands of years together. They never wiped out eachs packs of exisitance. The numbers will go up and down with each pack thru the years. Its natural. The Gray wolf is Not going to wipe out the Elk.Human hunts on Elk need to lower.
panaclean775 10 months ago
@panaclean775 - You need to look at YOUR version of History again . Trappers had to eat their horses in 1826 to make it out of Idaho . When did all those Elk show up that you have fantasized ?
TheFreecoyote 10 months ago
@TheFreecoyote I really dont know what or where your at..The American/Canadian Beaver fur trade indust.Trade treaty was going in full effect in those days.Ashley henry,Ashley smith,Smith jackson were the pioneers of the fur trading in those days.I dont recall ever hearing of them killing there horses to make it out of the state.Bison was just about absolete by them from over hunting.Elk herd numbers have always been up and down. They were wiped out of the rookies by 1890.So I who knows..
panaclean775 10 months ago
@panaclean775 - You need to look at YOUR version of History again . Trappers had to eat their horses in 1826 to make it out of Idaho , there was no Big Game. When did all those Elk show up that you have fantasized ? The wolf that was almost made extinct was the Timber Wolf . That Wolf was killed by these Imports ( see 1997 Court case )
TheFreecoyote 10 months ago
@TheFreecoyote Once again..TheTimber wolk is a subspecies of the Gray wolf.If you could be more specific on this Import animal would help. The Gray wolf has been in the North America's for over 8000 years. This is just fact. When the first white man settlers came into the rookies and first saw the Elk they thought it was the Moose.Elk is the european name of Moose. Then they thought it was just a larger bread of the red deer. But later it was found thru dna test that Elk is its own species. No fantasy
panaclean775 10 months ago
@TheFreecoyote The Gray wolf in the north roookies was almost wiped out.The north american gray wolf has been around for ages.I believe what your talking about is the other subspecies of the gray wolf. The Canadian mackenzie gray wolf.It is a little larger and wasnt a know native to the rookies where it was put in 1995.It has become the dominate wolf in the rookies. It is still a gray wolf.Just a different sub of it.I still dont recall your trappers. Not saying your lying.I just dont recall.

TheFreecoyote 11 months ago 2
@TheFreecoyote I think the people just put the gray wolf back where it has been for over a thousand years living with the Elk.You act like this is something that has never been done before.HAHA..Wolf were hunting Elk before red man knew how to make spear. This is not a demacracy and it was decided that for some reason some people wanted to do harm to the elk on purpose. This is the way it was meant to be.Hunt quotas on the Elk just need to be lowered.Wolf has the right to kill Elk as much as you.
panaclean775 10 months ago
@panaclean775 - This wolf is not the Wolf that hunted the Elk for thousands of years . The Red Man never knew this wolf . This is not a Democracy, it is a Republic . Some people wanted to do harm to the American West , we said no to the wolf they brought it anyway . I don't have the right to kill all the Elk and neither does the Wolf . The wolf has killed 90,000 Elk and all the Moose HAHA this has never been done befor , there are more Wolves in Yellowstone per sq mile than Alaska.
TheFreecoyote 10 months ago
@TheFreecoyote WTF are you talking about??The red wolf(Timber in North America)is a subspecies that is FROM the Gray Wolf. The first of there kind Grays were here around 10,000 years ago.The Gray derived from the Canis Lepophagus. The same as the Coyote. The Grey Wolf was here before the Red man and absolutly before White man.The Elk have been here for 2-5 million years..This wolf is the largest of the species and is the same wolf thats been here.I dont know where your heads at..
panaclean775 10 months ago
okay, this is the worst video directing from the title, when do you see the wolf killing the elk? the must rename this video to "wolves hunt and killing elk STORY" jeez (in your pants)
siperdellyeer 1 year ago
There are more Apex Predators in the three state area of Idaho, Mont and Idaho than there are in Alaska . Alaska has 8-11,000 Wolves. There are 6,000 in the West and 3,000 in Michigan and Minn. Alaska is 375 million acres divided by 11,000 = 34 wolves per million acres. In Yellowston there are 1,500 to 3,000 per million acres.....and Grizzly's starving ! Yellowstone is a Cluster Fuck !
TheFreecoyote 1 year ago
@TheFreecoyote
Swiftab1e 1 year ago
@Swiftab1e - Read what I wrote again ! If there were no humans at all , THERE ARE STILL MORE WOLVES PER ACRE IN YELLOWSTONE THAN IS FOUND IN ALASKA ......very unnatural ! You and your bunch of Wolfaboos have done a remarkably poor job . Who suffers in the end , the Wolf !
TheFreecoyote 1 year ago
@TheFreecoyote
Swiftab1e 1 year ago
@Swiftab1e - My argument has no basis ??? Are you serious ??? The wolf was gone , you wanted him back ! What part of that are you not responsible for ? He was fine in Canada , lot's of room , now he is trapped and starving and it is you who made this happen . I have to say you hate the Wolf more than I do , I wouldn't knowingly make an animal starve and as soon as I knew I was responsible I would move heaven and earth to correct the situation ! But not YOU ASSHOLES !
TheFreecoyote 1 year ago
@TheFreecoyote

BIGSKYHAL50, I see that calves are not surviving as they should. That's why people need to stop building in the wilderness. Its not the wolves fault that elk are easier to catch because they have nowhere to run.
wq47Dyami 1 year ago
@wq47Dyami you serious? No where to run? Not the problem. The problem is that those elk need 30% of their young to survive to have a viable population. Less than 10% are surviving. The elk in yellowstone are doomed. Regardless of what the prowolf biologists from the park are saying, simple math dictates it. They are doomed.
BIGSKYHAL50 1 year ago
@BIGSKYHAL50, maybe you don't know this, but elk can breed. Thats why they exist. They won't just dissapear because wolves kill them! Cats kill frogs. There are still frogs to this day. Bunnies eat grass. We still see grass, don't we? O.o
wq47Dyami 1 year ago
@wq47Dyami Oh, I agree, but the problem is that with about only 5% of the calves surviving, they cannot replace the elk being lost to the wolves.

Montana Biologists Ignore Spree Killing
A few days before the third wolf attack on the Peavey sheep occurred, Will Graves, author of Wolves in Russia, was discussing surplus (spree) killing by wolves with biologists in Montana. The biologists reportedly expressed doubt that it really happens but the following day wolves killed 120 purebred Rambouillet breeding bucks in a private pasture south of Dillon worth $350 each.
Annie 7 - Hunters own that Elk that YOUR W is Eating, not u !
TheFreecoyote 2 years ago
Scientists are aware of surplus killing. People like you to think that wolves are killing for "fun" and for "sport". Wolves don't get their food from the market.
timgg66 2 years ago
You have to remember that this hunt of the elk was not harassment or a kill for fun, it was for survival for the wolves. I feel really saddened for the elk, but wolves have to eat, and that elk supplied them with the nutrients through the meat to build proteins and help the wolves survive. You hunters complain that wolves kill for fun, which is proven not to be true by biologists, but than again, if these wolved didn't kill the elk for food, you hunters would have killed her for sport!

You do know that 86 wolves killing more than 3,000 elk is absolutely insane when you put into effects of stamina and timing of the kills, right? The 3,000 or so elk dieing are mainly due to disease, competition, climate and some from predation.
animals77777 2 years ago

The september 2009 report of only 3 wolves killing 120 sheep is an exageration. How can 3 wolves with low stamina kill 120 sheep without the famer noticing it? Isn't it weird that the story came out just 2 days prior to the court's decision on whether or not to relist the wolves as endangered? It is a flat out lie brought about by hunters to have evidence in court. We did not do fine without them. It hasn't been 100 years, it has been about 70 years.
animals77777 2 years ago
I divided the 20,000 Elk killed in the N Yellowstone herd by 86 Wolves and came up with 77.5 Elk a year which means that you actually saved 5,659 . If I'm right you might see one next season. The Moose in Wyoming are gone . As the Elk vanish so will the few Big Horn Sheep that the Coyotes haven't gotten. The Worry is the Buffalo - there are only 3500 .
TheFreecoyote 2 years ago
Well, at least we got 73 this year. That amounts to about 1000 head of elk that will survive, 102 moose, many bighorn sheep. They can eat all the deer they can catch.....Hopefully next years quota will be double that.
BIGSKYHAL50 2 years ago
Can these video's be used as Evidence of Breech of Public Trust ? The original number of Wolves that we were told would be in Yellowstone has been exceeded by a bunch. Does that open the door for action on behalf of the Wolf based on Reckless Endangerment of an Endangered Species thru Gross Negligence ?? Where would you file and can you sue National Park on behalf of the Elk or would it be better to sue on behalf of the Wolf- using Elk as proof of Gross Negligence and Wanton Waste?

wolves sport kill... but, wolves make good boot liners and mittens. yay

Wolves kill to eat. If you're just trying to get a rise out of people with your comments, go somewhere else.
AlphaRocketX 2 years ago
they don't sport kill.
TheDodgeChallenger 2 years ago
hmmm, Dillion, Montana, Sep. 2009, a pack of wolves went into a sheep pasture and killed 120 buck sheep, never ate any of them. Does that sound like sport killing?
BIGSKYHAL50 2 years ago
speaking of having no idea what one is saying. TheDumbChallenger apparently has his/her head up their ass. be careful and try not to slip and fall on your own stupidity.
pleinairplane 2 years ago
Your the one talking about sport killing but you apparently don't know crap about wolves and are some immature person trying to be bad talking about peoples heads up their asses, I think you just go to randon videos and talk about stuff you don'nt know about.
TheDodgeChallenger 2 years ago
i live in montana and I get out, and i have seen what the wolves do. you are looking at the wolves through emotional bifocals. arguing about this with someone like you, logically impaired, is a waste of time.

They are essential.
casienwhey 3 years ago 14
I loved watching these wolves. One of the coolest things I have ever seen. I watched them hunt this elk for four hours. They were very skilled in their technique. This elk was not weak, old or sick in any way. She outran them several times. They just wore her out. Wolves don't only kill the weak animals in a herd. They kill to eat, but pick their prey. They have killed a lot of elk in Yellowstone. A LOT! I have been filming there for over 20 years. The wolves are making an impact, good or bad
outdoorvideoclips 3 years ago
we did fine without them for more than a hundred years.......
BIGSKYHAL50 2 years ago
@casienwhey Wolves are truly amazing! We need them. They are an important part of nature.
Togeita 1 year ago
@Togeita Perhaps the native timber wolves. The Canadian Gray wolves introduced in the United States in Idaho and Wyoming are a nuisance that needs to be exterminated. My guess is that they've already driven our native species/subspecies to extinction. Do the research. Timberwolves max out at 55 to 60 pounds and hunt in pairs. You don't see the huge packs you see in some of these videos.
cmartel2 1 year ago
@cmartel2 Do the research yourself. Do remember that throughout the 1930s, wolves were exterminated throughout the United States (Native subspecies) and because they were in such low numbers, we were forced to reintroduce Canadian residents. Wolves that weren't meant to BE in Idaho. So, the nuisance you speak of is what we tried to reintroduce, because the natives specie was wiped out. We, sadly, were the nuisance.
Togeita 1 year ago
@casienwhey That's simply wrong. Since wolves have been introduced in the Lolo Elk Management area in, elk populations have plummetted from 13,559 to 2178 in March 2010. Bodies of slaughtered elk litter the landscape--uneaten and mostly female. Both regions have seen an 80% decline in the elk population. Note, too, that the wolves actually native to the US have most likely been driven extinct, as well. Canadain Gray Wolves were introducued--not timberwolves (which only hunt in pairs).
cmartel2 1 year ago
@cmartel2 Then again, what else can you reintroduce? The Timberwolves which were natives to North America have been exterminated within our very own nation. We have nothing else. Sure, the Canadian Grey Wolf is in fact becoming a problem, but what else can take its place as an Apex Predator? If you allow the elk herds to grow by themselves without wolves to feed off of them, they will eventually become overpopulated. And that will lead to their own demise.
Togeita 1 year ago
@casienwhey
Rockholm66 1 year ago
@casienwhey
The problem with that is that they do tend to kill livestock, dogs and children quite frequently when they live near people.
Ieatbabyseals 1 year ago
@Ieatbabyseals No. Wolves RARELY EVER KILL PEOPLE. I'm sick of people saying that. The only time when wolves DO hurt people is when dumbasses mess around with them. People are just a bunch of pansies who seek to destroy every living thing that is a "threat" to them. GET USED TO IT. That is how is always was before we destroyed the world. If ANYTHING, WE should be wiped out.
WildfireWarriorcat 1 year ago
@WildfireWarriorcat
They rarely kill people because wolves that live near people are killed off.
Ieatbabyseals 1 year ago
@WildfireWarriorcat
Wolves were reintroduced to Wisconsin only recently. There are about 120 of them. There have already been like 10 dogs killed because of them. Could just as easily be children.
Ieatbabyseals 1 year ago
use to be....what happens when they run out of elk for the wolves to eat?
BIGSKYHAL50 3 years ago
BIGSKYHAL50,
I have been going there for about 22 years now. I have never seen so few Elk. This is my first encounter with Wolves close up. I do believe they are killing a lot of Elk. Hopefully there will be a balance for both species
outdoorvideoclips 3 years ago
oh, I agree.
BIGSKYHAL50 3 years ago
The other point is that I wonder if the elk will survive that many wolves in one area. Anoter point is wolves outside the park. We have had wolves for about 5 years now. Our local elk herd winter count was about 300-400 animals. Last year it was down to 40. I don't know, maybe they moved? Well, we have wolves now. I guess I get kind of mad when I see my familys hunting traditions go out the window for wolves. Same thing is happening around the park. I like wild things, but not so...
BIGSKYHAL50 3 years ago
I did go down to Teton National Park, and the Elk are still very abundant there. I suspect that as food sources diminish in Yellowstone, the wolves will venture further and further away. That could be devestating for all parties involved. I am disappointed in the large number of declining Elk population inside the park. It is interesting to hear what is happening outside.
outdoorvideoclips 3 years ago
did you guys know that wolfs are not in packs by nature, it's just in montana and wyoming and those lower 48 states they can't grow over 200lbs. so they go in to packs because they are not as big as alaskan and canadian wolf(which are huge) so they work together to bring down massive animals. The huge northern wolves will be able to break their preys back with their massive arms and tear the preys throat open.
TheDodgeChallenger 2 years ago
ok, but the sad truth is that the wolves came from canada.
BIGSKYHAL50 2 years ago
What I mean (and should have said) is that guess what other canid started out in places like montana?COYOTE and wolves are smaller in the lower 48 because of crossbreding with coyotes. have'nt you noticed that large wolves tend to be black. instead of that color that coyotes made more abundant in wolves. Oh, and by the way, so few wolves have been taken that the records are'nt even close to wolves full potential size.
TheDodgeChallenger 2 years ago
crossbreeding?
BIGSKYHAL50 2 years ago
@BIGSKYHAL50 When you actually look at the raw numbers you find that the proportion of kills from hunting is vastly greater than the numbers of wolf kills. Also it is well documented that wolves usually take the weak and vulnerable, whereas humans take more animals in their prime.
spelunkerd 1 year ago
@outdoorvideoclips The Canadian grays which were wrongly introduced into our wild are known to wipe out entire moose populations in the Yukon. They then begin eating one another. Our nation has committed a crime by introducing these wolves into our wild. They will soon be destroying our ranches and killing our housepets.
cmartel2 1 year ago
@cmartel2 I agree in terms of the Canadian residents becoming a problem. They are, in fact, wiping the elk out. And we could have problems within our back yards. But what can we do? We cannot have wildlife maintain itself without an apex predator. Guess the fault goes on us. We wiped our species out and had no other choice but to reintroduce a new species. Once that does not belong here.
Togeita 1 year ago
@Togeita yes but that apex predator is us as hunters. we don't kill another farmers livestock without permission, kill game animals for sport, or kill a cow elk while pregnant just to rip the calves out to eat like the wolves do. we are a much more humaine predator than the wolves. yes we wiped the species out in the 20's due to problems but sorry you're wrong when you say we had no other choice but to reintroduce a new species. side note they were reintroduced WITHOUT consent from state gov't 2
buglechaser05 1 year ago
@buglechaser05 your logic is sadly delusional since when is nature humane you fucking fuzzy minded see the world conveniently pink retard. wolves are wolves dont compare them to us. go look up horrendous and fucked up things people do then come back and say we are more humane then wolves
honeyputdowndaknife 1 year ago
@honeyputdowndaknife listen here dick wad. i never said humans are all smart and humaine, i agree we are pretty stupid sometimes i mean look at you. i simply said wolves are LESS humaine. when have you seen a video of a wolf killing an animal quickly without long suffering? NEVER. i know it does happen with some hunters to make a bad shot but most of us (i know your little brain can't comprehend this) but most of us use a more HUMAINE and quick method is all i was sayin.

honeyputdowndaknife 1 year ago
@buglechaser05 *30. And no, a hunter is no apex predator. The reason behind why your elk are fading so quickly is simple: Because the lands used to belong to wolves. Secondly, it is't just wolves who kill live stock, but coyotes, and wild dogs. Another quick fact by the way: Hunters cannot control the environment. After the Timberland was wiped out in the 30s-50s, elk became overpopulated. Eventually, they became too dangerously high in the 90s, and there came the wolves!
