I've been at it over 50 years studying martial arts and doing it with a lot of good people and therefore tons of quality time on the mats. I hope all martial artists share that common bond reflected in their skill and knowledge.
No silat is not part of Defendo. In 1974 I was attached to the Indonesian Para Commando's in Egypt (UN) there unarmed combat was based off Japanese Kempo & Jujitsu. I have been to Indonesia training military & police in close combat tactics and made point to get some exposure to several different schools of silat some good some stupid. Hope that answered your question?
@RSMWolfe Yes while at the same time missing it. I just see the agressive quality of your locks/takedowns flow seems similar to good silat. We all have two arms and two legs. your have porgressive as well as agressive flow. I mean all combat is relative. The devisions are absurdities. I just wondered if you ever had influence from it.
Well there is no magic to this blocking; you either shield up or parry or wedge. The cutting block is more aggressive! It takes practice and your size is only a problem if you see it as a disadvantage. My wife Ash can make extremely good use of this cutting block against big guys and she is under 5'4" and 123lbs. She hits like a mack truck! So the alternative is practice it to death so you can use it in your sleep! maybe not the answer you were looking for?
@RSMWolfe Thanks for your answer! Well I guess that's what I'll be drilling this week. And I guess the answer to my question of facing somebody much stronger than myself would be to keep training. I appreciate what you're doing out there Mr.Wolfe, happy holidays =)
A question about that parrying, so I'm a small guy, if I'm facing bigger and stronger attackers and I cannot generate enough power in the heat of the moment to move/pound their arm aside; what's another option for a small guy to block and parry without getting screwed over by brute strength using that concept besides covering up, splashing, and going straight for vulnerable targets?
