Catalina Ponor is the only gymnast who has won GOLD in every event she qualified for which was Team final, Beam final and Floor final. No other gymnast has managed the same feat as she - they have come close to it (silivas,szabo are some examples). So she really is remarkable and deserves to be in the record books.

well, I understand what you mean and I certainly respect her, but based on your definition, He Kexin of China also accomplished this in the 2008 Beijing Olympics by qualifying to team and bars finals. Despite the fact that I thought she should have shared the gold medal spot with Nastia...well, the point is, she also fufills that definition. However, Catalina probably IS the only gymnast to qualify for three finals and then to win gold in all of them.

Too bad Dos Santos can't control her power. This was generic, full twisting double back, double in a half punch front layout, triple twist, double back pike. But, it's what was necessary to get her the gold.

I've been wondering about the scores, i haven't seen any 9.9's or higher since barcelona, are the routines getting so hard that it's easy to make the mistakes that costs you tenths (like on landings) or are the gymnasts not as good? Would daniela silivas or shushunova (spelling)?) still be able to pull out 10's if they competed now during their peak years? If you answer please explain your response as logically as you can :D

No, the code during most recent Olympics was increasingly tough - not only on difficulty in reaching a 10SV, but also form breaks and steps on landings were much harsher in 2004 than in 1992 for example. Look at Milo's 10 in Barcelona floor. She had steps coming out of her tumbles, and legs apart in twisting sumis. But they were not as heavily penalised then - plus the routines in 2004 are much harder, so there is naturally going to be more imperfections. Hope that was good!

Silivas and Shushunova would NOT be able to get 10s in the 2001-2005 code. Judges were alot more picky in that code than in the old code. Cowboyed tucks and crossed legs weren't deducted (or at least not severely in the old code). Also 1988- 2001 is just a universe of difference when it comes to gymnastics.

Actually I was a gymnast, I know what form is, I'm also going for my USAG certification to become a coach. What you need to realize is gymnastics evolves from decade to decade.

The 2 1/2 twist has been around for a long time, so has the full-in. So those skills haven't evolved. She has bent knees and crosses her legs when she twists very badly. She won Athens because others faltered.  Cheng Fei would have won, but obviously she messed up.

Totally agree with you. The porno styled form she has (notice if you switch the letters, Ponor = Porno) is possibly the worst I've ever seen from an Elite Gymnast. Although, if Dos Santos would have hit, she would have won :)
