  • my favorite version of this song awww

  • Round World-ers were never burned at the stake, stop mistaking folklore for actual history. People had long believed the world was round before burning at the stake was punishment

  • Don't get me wrong I like Brand New but this isn't the best cover, but it's kind of hard to even come close to sound as amazing as Doug Marsh and BTS....

  • Jesse's using his scratchy voice that i love oh so freaking much

  • I like Jesse's version better:) But I would like the band to do it together!!

  • It's all about entertainment, not competition.

  • lol fucking cry moar! who cares if its better or worse, either you dig it or you dont. and bands dont cover other ppls music to try and out-do or improve it. they do it because they enjoy that song and want to be a part of it, show respect for it, and share that music with those who may not have heard it other wise. so cheer up and quit arguing guys, its a forlorn hope anyway :P

  • This cover isn't even that bad.

Maybe if he had recorded it with the entire band instead of an acoustic version it'd be a tad bit better, but one thing it's not, is bad.

  • this singer X 9999999999999999999999= Doug Martsch

  • Jesse Lacey poops diamonds

  • way way better than built to spill's.. brand new is amazingg

  • @xxchooseyourpoisonxx Haha. What? No. It's not bad, but... come on.

  • It's good, but doesn't hold a candle to Built to Spill, and I think whoever this guy is would probably agree.

  • @juices1234 lol @ whoever this guy is, like hes a nobody

  • i like this better.

  • @anthonyxtimox get out... you wouldn't know good music if it bit you in the fucking ass.

  • YES, two of my favorite bands combined. yum.

  • Elliott Smith's cover is way better and he was strung out. Enough Said.

  • was a brand new fan when i was a teenager. i listening to them last months and see the music they play gets more mature and nice, not like the other bands of this scene/time who degenerates in a fashionstatement/mtvcommercialproduct. i am now a fan of built to spill and glad to see a cover from brand new. where this cover is released?

  • @ValJesternity this was released on a "the quiet things..." demo. Probably early 2003.

  • the problem is that he did an amateur version of it. who cares who he is, anyone on youtube could have pulled this version off.

  • @Spiffa0 Very well put. I like this because it is very nice knowing that Jesse Lacey loves the same bands I do.

  • Jesse Lacey is so unbelievably hip for a say, a top 40 musician. Live covers of built to spill and neutral milk hotel, I mean, come on.

  • @duuudeeee29 Yes I've listened to Brand New.

Not the new shit really, just Deja Entendu.

Nonetheless I did hear about Brand New from the radio and that.

I don't doubt it, but I don't think most Top 40 artists would have influences like Built to Spill and NMH.

No I don't, I just like music. Cheers!

  • @hpsfl

listen to their last 2 albums.

  • could you send me the mp3 of this?

  • i love built to spill

  • could you send me an mp3 of this?

  • i can't find this song, it's not on the albums of Brand new. @sorenkierkegaard2008: think it's a pity they're not christian. would be cool to find a christian band like this. @ JimmyNoodles What do you mean?

  • who cares if they're christian. Brand New does talk a lot about Christianity in his music, take it how you want.

  • @joueanne Why does it matter whether they're christian or not?

  • Wow. Where could I get an mp3 of this?

  • give me your email i'll send it to you

  • @Klemons12 could you send the mp3 to me too :)

  • @qwertyopo1234 Sure :) just pm me your email

  • @Klemons12

Care to share with me too?

  • @tlakm Of course. Just need your email

  • anthonyxtimox, you'd know all about sucking dicks.

  • buit to spill is better.

but i'm glad brand new has a good taste in music.

  • Good taste in music for a Christian band.

  • brand new is not a christian band

  • Oh, really?

  • yes, there was an interview about it, i don't feel like looking it up but i remember it on youtube. if you listen to a lot of songs you can see that he has kind of lost faith actually.

  • Oh, I see.

  • @sorenkierkegaard2008 they aren't christian. at all.

  • Oh, really?

  • I don't think people should argue about this so much. I love Built to Spill, and Brand New is starting to grow on me. The thing is they're both 2 different planes of music, and it's so easy to like one version and not the other. People that like either of these bands seem to love their respective versions of it

  • it's great

  • wow i love it

  • How exactly do Brand New suck? Even if you don't like the genre, Jesse Lacey is still one of the best lyricists of this era or any era for that matter.

  • You may think so. It's just simply a matter of opinion. I personally disagree. And they suck because I say so. I think they suck, so therefore they do. In my opinion.

  • I see you're very adept at adult conversation. You should probably back opinions up with some form of logic if you're going to respond in the first place.

  • There isn't really any logic to it or I would explain. Brand New just simply does not appeal to my taste.

  • fair enough.

  • @missbritface then don't listen to it and comment and say you don't like it. I hate people like you.. but, you know.. just my opinion..

  • All I said was that I didn't like it, lol. That's what the comment feature is for, right? To post your opinion about the video. All I said was that I didn't like Brand New, lol. Just because I don't like the same music you do, you decide you hate me? That's amusing.....

  • Kids, kids, kids... seriously! Don't fight!

  • Im just glad somone famous knows what good music is. built to spill whoops ass

  • My favorite guitarist, artist, and singer has done it again. :)

  • this is amazing

  • go jessseee u sexy

  • not doug so... dunt curr

  • No cover is better than the original.

  • actually, built to spills cover of cortez the killer on their live album is better then neil youngs original. Listen to it.

But i agree here, Its not as good as the original but its great effort. Hard to get the vocals like dougs.

  • Thirteen by Elliott Smith. Better than the original by Big Star I think. Not saying this is, Built to Spill did this song like it was intended.

  • Lol, can't disagree with that... Elliott smith is king :)

  • Nice effort, but the Built to spill version is still the best by leaps and bounds.

  • @rickythereach22

Since when is the point of a cover to try to outdo the original?

  • @drjones087 I love you for that comment haha :)

  • @drjones087 , agreed 100%, a cover is a tribute from one band to another, signifiying respect.

  • @drjones087 Uh...it's only the biggest honor you can do for the original band who's song you're covering. Anything else is a failed attempt or underachievement. Case and point: Deftones with LS' "Simple Man," and At the Drive In with The Smiths' "This Night Has Opened My Eyes." I love Brand New, and you should be honest with people you love, right? Well I'm going to do just that and say this was kinda weak. No matter, though. They have written plenty of incredible songs. That's more important.

  • @wmotamedi Covering a song is a sign of respect to the band being covered. Trying to "outdo" the original is not part of the equation.

  • @drjones087 Again...that's true only if you're not very passionate about the song you're covering. Type in "Espgaluda piano" in the You Tube search engine to witness a very talented guy outdo the videogame composer in his arrangement. (first video in the results). It IS as possible as it is preferable, and it gets the most admiration from fans. Why would you do a cover in the first place if you had no intention of doing the song justice and making it your own at the same time?

  • @wmotamedi

"Why would you do a cover in the first place if you had no intention of doing the song justice and making it your own at the same time?" I agree with that bit 100%, but putting you're own mark on it doesn't mean you're trying to one up the original artist. Anyone does a cover to try to one up the original artist is a dick.

  • @drjones087 That is one of the silliest things I've ever heard. We are not talking like they're improving it out of spite or to prove they are worth more or something. They do it because they love the original so much that they feel it is deserving of an even greater rendition. You might as well call David Fincher a cunt for re-making Fight Club on a much larger scale than the novel. Even Mr. Palahniuk himself said he was a bit ashamed of his book after seeing it. I mean seriously, man.

  • @wmotamedi

I won't argue with you, but if you look at the other comments you'll find your opinion to be in the minority.

  • @drjones087 Aaaand how is that a bad thing? What would you say if I told you MLK was in a minority in his fight for equality? What about the few intelligent men who were courageous enough to stand up when they believed the earth was round, before the flat earth believers burned them at the stake for their "ignorance"? Would you say, "Oh that's completely different. You're nothing like them."?

Thanks to people like you and your ancestors, history is doomed to repeat itself indefinitely. Later.

  • @wmotamedi

Clearly you're the next MLK. Keep on fighting the fight on youtube.

  • @drjones087 You have a stupid response for everything, don't you? What would your mother think?

Yeah, keep losing the "YouTube battle," numb nuts. I'll keep fighting. I can tell by just a passive glance at your comments that you are a typical dense, narrow minded liberal American who hates to forfeit his own arrogant world views in exchange of better ones. In other words, you're allergic to learning. I hope you never take a debate class in college. Kids would wipe the floor with you. lol.

  • @wmotamedi

All the ad hominem attacks you make must really get you far in debate.

  • @drjones087 In case I wasn't making myself clear, the two covers I mentioned were better than the original. That's what I was trying to get across.

  • @drjones087 Go listen to Johnny Cash's version of HURT and get back to me.

  • @qturner I've heard it many times. What point are you trying to make?

  • @drjones087 Exactly.

  • @drjones087 um let me see only since ALWAYS. why put a cover on your record if you think it brings nothing new to the table?

  • @rickythereach22 Because it's the original -__- Although some covers are much better than the actual song.
