I can't unlock Hotsuma because I don't have a Shinobi file on my Memory card, and I haven't unlocked Hisui yet because this is my first time playing. Technically second, but I don't think Beginner mode counts towards that end, since it doesn't unlock anything.
@Celdrach You can still get Hotsuma without a Shinobi save; just beat Hard mode. For Joe you get him by collecting clan coins. There's an excellent FAQ on Gamefaqs which tells you where they all are. I think it was like 30 clan coins for Joe.
@Ergeniz Oog, there's no way I'm gonna be able to beat Hard mode. I'm having difficulties even on Easy. I don't think I'll ever be able to unlock Hibana and Hisui's alternate costumes.

But they said you unlock Joe by beating 88 Stages. Or are there multiple methods of unlocking everything?
The few other guides that are there, aren't all that in-depth.
Dude, just practice and get used to Easy mode for now. Believe me, you'll be able to get Hard eventually. Even a idiot like me can do perfect runs on Hard mode, as you can see by my vids. So don't put yourself down. And I'm pretty positive it was 30 clan coins for Joe.
@Ergeniz Well, I've made it to Stage 12 in Easy. All that's left is that, and the final battle with Kurohagane in Stage 13. I've got 16 Clan Coins so far.
I'm not particularly interested in getting S-Ranks or high-scores. I just wanna unlock the characters and costumes, and have fun with the game in the long run. Y'know, just fart around and do whatever.
Any advice for Stage 12 without the Beginner mode's infinite-air-dash?
@Celdrach No real cheats; just take it slow and easy and get a feel for the stage. The biggest issue with that stage is the fact you can fall off imo, but since you're not going for S-Ranks and stuff feel free to use your continues sparingly.

No, I don't care what you say, there's no way I'm gonna be able to beat Normal or Hard mode. Just 'cause you can do it, doesn't mean other people can do it too.

@Ergeniz Sorry 'bout that, I just get really pissed when I die repeatedly in games for the stupidest reasons. Like when the Gates of Hell attack pushes you out of the arena when you try to grab one of the health pick-ups.
Anyway, I finally beat'm.
I keep forgetting about the Chakra Charge attack.
Primarily because I bought this game used, and it didn't come with the manual. Even with the in-game Training section, I keep forgetting about that.

Okay dude, I've got 32 Clan Coins, and still no Joe.
I think the methods used to unlock everything are completely different between Kunoichi and the US localization, Nightshade.

I'm playing this game for the first time.

Yeah, Joe takes the longest to kill bosses but I would say save for the time, it was easier than with hibana since shrukien spam is so damn safe.
