well their origins is not well known. Some say they came from the caucasus mountains, other say they were local lebanese. in fact, marada in arabic means rebel: maybe it was the name that arabs gave them, since only them in the orient did not make peace with them

You could be right, Chichkabeb, about Lebanese Christian combat skill in defending their territory. You listed historic instances that seem to hint to that.

Did the Mardaites ( Maronites ) ever successfully defend any Christian territory against the infidels ?
Maybe they had good intentions, and some of them may even have been sincere Christians (this will be clarified soon).
But what they really were (yesterday and today) was looters and crooks.
That's how they lost West Beirut in the 70ies, because they looted shops on their way to battle.
Ashrafieh is all that they tried to defend
but they didn't do a great job at it either.
