I think I know why you're thinking Megaman. In Mega Man 2, one of the robot masters/bosses has a very similar/the exact same ability; it's called Leaf Shield. BTW, the boss's name is Wood Man. Sorry to be a pain if you already know this by now.

This hack makes the level too easy I think. It never goes away no matter how many hits you take and it never runs out. It's cool, and it works alright during the boss fights where the boss can still hurt you, but here it makes things totally easy.
