My Dad was a painter in Jersey and every year in March his crew had to paint PalPark. He said it was so cold that the oil-based paint went on like thick yogurt and they had to keep warm by periodically standing next to the burning wood they set ablaze in 55 gallon drums.
Remember every pause & word! Had great times there with my parents, friends, and later, my boyfriends. Saw many teen idols on stage with Cousin Brucie. Remember the wave pool?????? BTW, how many of you remember the "Tunnel of Love"???? And Freddy Cannon's - "Down at Palisades Park"!!!!!

I dont' remember this radio ad, but I do remember there was a commercial for it, with the same(ish) kind of song, only to a more modern, faster beat...Distinctly remember the ''swings all day and after dark'' line...Love it! Those were certainly the ''good 'ol days'' indeed! ;D
Holy cow, what memories! How I long for those days...I remember the attractions, the bubble ride that used to go around the whole park, and even the killer fun house which you had to be in some kind of good shape to get through with it's moving floors, shaking stairs, seesawing rooms...Thank you.
What about the one that went "Skip the bother and skip the fuss, take a Public Service Bus. Public Service sure is great, it takes you right up to the gate!"
My God... I remember this from when I was a small boy in upstate New York. My family was all in the car and my dad had the radio in and my brother sister and I all started to bug our parents ablut taking us there. Oh the memories. lol
Also, when they tore down the park, they rebuilt the large wooden rollercoaster from there in coney island. The Cyclone.
That movie was entitled "The Ratings Game", written by two guys who had fond memories of Palisades Amusment Park because they came from New Jersey- Jim Mulholland & Mike Barrie, who wrote for "THE TONIGHT SHOW STARRING JOHNNY CARSON", and are currently writers for "THE LATE SHOW WITH DAVID LETTERMAN". Palisades Amusement Park CAN'T "reopen" because after it closed forever in 1971, it was torn down to make way for a housing complex...
I have comic books with those very coupons.Kids today have no idea how much CHEAP fun we had.Today, everything is money, money, money. We've seen the USA's best days by far.
Please don't misconstrue my earlier comment. I was merely stating facts. I must admit, I'd see that ad in comic books as a kid and always wished that I could have gone there. Plus, Freddie Cannon had a big hit (written by Chuck Barris) about Palisades Park (imagine someone doing that today for Six Flags - inconceivanle). How could you NOT want to go there?
Danny DeVito sings this song to Rhea Perlman in a satirical made-for-cable movie from the '80s about a mob-connected guy who becomes a TV executive (sorry I don't remember the title). The park was, much like the much missed Rocky Point in my current home of Rhode Island, a "mob-owned" park. However, Palisades Park was built by the mob using mob-connected construction companies, plumbing contractors and electricians.
God I miss that place. I remember driving along the West Side Highway and seeing the HUGE PALISADES AMUSEMENT PARK sign and all the lights lit up. I'll remember it til the day I die.
I love just re-playing this :)

I remember that jingle very well. Brings back memories.
MrsHiggins1971 1 year ago
The singer is Steve Clayton. He made quite a few radio jingles during that time.

Any idea who the singer is? The voice is maddeningly familiar, and not just because I grew up with this commercial! Thank you :)

Palisades was NOT built by mob money. I don't know where you heard that but it is incorrect.
