My sister is an audiologist and to be honest I really never really looked into CI until now i guess because a friend of mine his wife is deaf and seeing how everyone is now wanting a CI and how much it really helps improve your way of life. I don't understand how this person i know doesn't seem to want it. This amazing device would help out so much in there relationship.
I'm curious to know and I'm sorry if this a dumb question but someone who is completely deaf and gets the CI will they ever
learning asl is a great thing... i am a Deafened man (lost my hearing about 20 years ago) and myself and my entire family (wife and sons and my mom) all learned asl... it is a neat language and a great way to communicate .
i am now starting the cochlear implant process and watching some of this stuff because i am very frightened about this process...
i may not fully understand what you are going through but have been there...
@Nickatar2 Please talk to some people from advanced bionics or Cochlear Americas. I was implanted 6mths ago and the sound is perfect to me. If you have any questions just reply with a email address and I will respond. I wear CI on both sides and had both sides implanted on the same day.
Welcome to this noisy world. Hope CI's were as cheap as a pair of glasses, and scientists could improve the technology to resemble the natural perception.
Hearing you talking must be so rewarding for researchers.
Good luck and keep improving!. Doctors already did their part, no it's up to you.
Deaf people don't want others to have cochlear implants because they think it's the genocide of their culture. That's the source of most of this vitriol against the technology. That and it's also very new technology. It's not perfect and you won't be listening to beethoven right off the bat... but it's something.
Think of it this way. It's a new option in life. It's not like anyone's chopping off your hands and telling you that you can never use sign language again.
Good Luck with your life, if any happen to you and your CI then you will die in any way to have an accident. I am former CI and have a bad experience in my situation.
Its not a waste of money if the people who want the cochlear implant are satisfied with it. And I was just sad that the Deaf/Hearing Impaired society tends to frown on it.
You're really inspiring, and this is beautiful! I wish you luck, and I know you'll do great!

It a waste of money
podum77 2 years ago
Not if it makes somebody happy
dechetsdailybs 2 years ago 22
yeah you're right but I really don't know if it is succesful or not???
podum77 2 years ago
Obviously its successful if its made thousands of deaf/heard of hearing the ability TOO hear.
dechetsdailybs 2 years ago
Good I'm glad it successful and it really up to people who want cochlear implant if they become deaf or born deaf
podum77 2 years ago
Thats what Ive been saying this whole time.
Its not a waste of money if the people who want the cochlear implant are satisfied with it. And I was just sad that the Deaf/Hearing Impaired society tends to frown on it.
dechetsdailybs 2 years ago
Im glad you got the implant!
Its sad how some peoople in the community are against it
