Seems all they've done is mildly upgraded the programming and added a new button or two. Ultimately the sounds depends on how well you program the kits, and your amplifier or PA. The V-expression kits can make your TD9/12/20 sound as good as the 'new' TD30.  and yes, $8k buys a lot of drums, or a small car.

dashmaul, I did the exact same thing and I was bummed at first, but there really isn't much difference between the 20 and 30. When is Roland going to make an e kit look exactly like an acoustic? That is when I will upgrade. Congrats on your td 20, I love mine.

As usual with Roland, the "metal" type kits sound completely unnatural, like they used to on old soundboards. Have a listen to Toontrack's "Metal Machine" expansion for EZ Drummer and take a cue from them, Roland. Also, the tom roll at 6:42 sounds really artificial and fake. It's too bad they didn't get further since my TD8 kit I had back in the early 00's.

I bought a TD20KX about 5 months ago. I love it. With the release of the TD30, I'm not completely bummed out (for waiting 5 months should I've known) It's mostly minor upgrades IMO. Would be nice to maybe add one or two of these new grey-metallic cymbals to my kit, just to mix it up!

@dashmaul if its under 5 months old and you got it from guitar center under warrenty you should be able to trade it back in (and get the full price as store credit) to get that new kit.

It pisses me off when dumb fucks like you have to make dumb ass comments about drugs when you don't even know me. If you saw my first comment I stated that this is the best informative video for Vdrums I'm only saying in my next comment that they really need to be more practical in price. You could buy a freakin' economical car for 8,000 grand. Let's be honest about the price. And don't be a douche bag about it with stupid comments like being high. The price is about what I was expecting. Wait a few more years and it will come down. A good acoustic kit could easily be as much. Of course with this kit, you can have just about any drum kit you've ever dreamed of. I could easily spend that much money on a guitar. You want decent gear, you have to spend money.

well maybe these guys will take their heads out of their asses and lower the price... it looks extrmely nice and the sounds seem less "machine gun" like but for literally a quartre of the price you can get the 2 box drum it 5 not quite as nice looking but the sounds are extrmely good quality! either way id love to get this kit if it werent for the ridiculous price tag!

@eduardoholowatyj Do you realize most musicians are starving musicians. Now they have wouldn't it seem smart to sell millions of these great sounding drums instead of a few thousand? Why do you think Mcdonalds sells billions of hamburgers because they are .99 cents. Not because they taste great! So could you imagine how many of these kits they would sell If they were priced reasonably. Besides it takes R&D to lead technology. Don't make the consumer pay for the tests we'll pay for the product.
