OK. You HAVE TO be able to distinguish a language from its SCRIPT! Korean is a language. It WAS NOT invented. HANGEUL is a script with which to record Korean in written form. That WAS invented. Even so, Hangeul is not the only script that was "invented." All alphabets were "invented" by people. Hangeul's uniqueness lies in the fact that it was invented with much scholarship and logic within its shape.
Japanese are actually half-Korean and half-Chinese. There is no such thing as Japanese DNA. The Japanese emperors were direct descedants of Korean Baekje. Akihito made a public confession about it too. That's why Korean and Japanese belong to the same language family. I speak both Korean and Japanese. They are too similar to deny the fact.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Actually, although Korean and Japanese have cognates and have similar grammatical features, they are not related.. The similarities are rare and superficial enough to be the result of a Sprachsbund. Your personal experience cannot be used as evidence to put the two languages in the same family, but rigorous scientific research by linguists.
The claim that Korean and Japanese belong to the hypothetical ural-altaic family is generally rejected by the scientific community, although taught in Korea.
What I said about Ural-Altaic in the left column of my profile was a mistake, but somehow I can't change it. You'll see in my playlist on the right where I mentioned Altaic only. I wonder if you speak Japanese to know the difference or the similarity between the two languages. If you don't agree with me, you have a problem with generally accepted views held by most international scholars.
Both my experience and regorous scientific research by lingusits have proven that Japanese language is derived from Korean language. If you know both lanugages, you would find the stricking similarity between the two languages. I have no doubt that japanese is derived from Korean language.
that's because Koreans are ancestors to Japanese. Royal family from Baekjae dynasty from Korea migrated to to form Yamato, now Imperial Royal family in Japan. Baekjae people brought their highly advanced culture along with Korean language. Jokbals know this but too embarrassed to admit it due to their "nationalism" LOL
Korean and Japanese belong to the same language family, "Ural-Altaic," which is totally different from Chinese that belongs to "Sino-Tibetan."
Hangeul is definitely the most creative and scientific writing system in the world. The Japanese writing systems (Hiragana & Katakana) are only a derivative and abbreviation of Chinese.
The Japanese writing systems(Hiragana & Katakana) are only a derivative and abbreviation of Chinese, but it actually came from korean Yidu. Yidu is a korean writing system that was made during Silla and Kaya period in order to simplify chinese writing system. Ancient koreans introduced japan many things;among them are chinese characters and Yidu. However,Yidu was banned from using when Koryo annexed Silla. The japanese writing system can be traced back to Yidu.
you know, actually, the ural-altaic language family is only hypothetical and the claim that Korean and Japanese belong to that family is even more controversial. It is clear that Korean and Japanese have similar features, but a more widely accepted theory is that Korean and Japanese are both language isolates. Also, the claim that Hiragana and Katakana came from Idu is a theory that has VERY little standing in academia.
There has not been much facts revealed to reputdate the standing that Hiragana and Katakana had not been influenced by Idu. Idu is still regarded as the origin of the japanese writing system..It coinsides with the era when much of immigration and transfer of the korean culture to japan took place.
--my declaration of boycotting the beijing olympic--
Many of my beloved sites have been inundated with unreasonable bad comments made by chinese people. It disappoined so000 much to the point to come to a decision that I'll boycott the olympic this summer. I feel that I should not be a part of the biggest show-off on its history when the country is not yet ready to be a member of the world community. Thus I want the citizen of the world to join me in boycotting the olympic.
Dear Sorinajima, you try hard to promote Korean culture but your way of delivering just can't be acceptable by most All you can do is bad mouthing and name calling those that disagree with you. Your behavior can't be regarded as civilized either. People immediately get turned away from talking to you if not quarrelling with you. The real world is not as simple as I said. But history taught us that the US lost the war in Vietnam. What happened in Vietnam can happen anywhere else too.
Even if the world is that simple you say. I think we would all die anyway, to the extintion of human race, out of asthma before it happens because chinks are polluting the world fucking hell.
Sorry to hurt your feeling but there is absolutely nothing great about a country or its culture when it can't defend itself without foreign troops. I will make peace with the Chinese if I were you b/c if the Americans are gone like in Vietnam, and that the PLA troops march down south. Koreans then must decide either to jump into the Sea of Japan or the Yellow Sea. I know Koreans also hate Japanese too much you won't accept their help. Case closed.
LOL,you must be a chink who wouldn't want to say slurs in this site and pretend to be civilized. that why you people are called "chinks" I answered your question and you say something totally different. I hope the world is as simply as you say, dude.
dude in ancient times korea managed to win against jap invasions. also the japs were able to invade korea around 1900 only because they adopted western technology
the only reason japan was able to occupy korea was due to the portsmouth agreement of 1905 that gave japan control of korea and i believe mongolia in exchange for the islands above japan going to russia, ending the russo-japanese war. so in a way your right, but it wasnt because of technology
Sorinajima, I noticed that you've been writing comments here for 3 weeks+. Why spend so much time on this site to express your hate for the Chinese people? Why name calling other people, ie, Chinks? Have you never been called a Chink or Gook before? It doesn't matter you are Korean and not Chinese because to me Orientals all look alike. Stop name calling people...you can't possibly get the Chinese to accept and like Koreans (even learning Hangeul) when you bad mouth so much yourself.
I didn't start the fight, dude. When I first visited my beloved sites and they were infested with chinks' bad comments. Why chinks visit and sh*t around? I find this very upsetting. Don't they have any respect? I don't visit chinks site to sh*t around. And to you eyes,we look the same. I bet you don't know much about korea. You think european countries are unique and all asian countries are china? Educate yourself, dude. I radicate roaches sh*tting my beloved sites. When they stop,I'll stop.
LOL, Have you met koreans? Chances are with china's huge population, you probably met chinese, not korean. On top of that, nowadays, chinks copy korean hair styles and fashions to look like koreans. They no longer wear froggy hats. I am a civilized person and I am not a racist. chinks are so jealous and they bad mouth koreans in our own site..what a insolent behavior!!! when they stop,I'll stop.
Hangul is amazing. The invention of the Korean alphabets was and has been a very strong statement to Chinese at that time, that we are unique and talented people. I think all chinese should learn korean and start using it for its efficiency.
Any Chinese has ever thought of adapting Hangul as mode of writing over Hanja for it's superiority that is so lacking in Hanja? Korea should abolish Hanja altogether.
Hangul is a great invention I have no doubt about it. However it does make Korea hard to access for her neighbors, not to mention the other way round, especially in today's ever-linked world of information via the internet. I'm Chinese and one main thing that stops me from knowing more about Korean culture, both popular and traditonal, is the Hangul. Compared to Japanese, I can guess, if not understand, at least 60% on anything written in Japanese be it music, films and literature.
It's nothing peculiar. If you wanna access to Korea, just learn Korean language. Think about it. Chinese language does make China hard to access for her neighbors. But I'll learn Chinese language, if I wanna access to China.
Well, I personally do not have a strong dislike towards the korean people, however a close friend of mine told me that her lovely korean neighbour is an excellent pickpocket and shoplifter. Nevertheless I wouldn't say that she is a victim of korean traditions.Oh, I forgot to mention that most of the korean girls I met like to pretend as if they were from Japan. Pitifully they are not. P.S.: Kimichi or Kimchi makes no difference, because they both STINK.
If you don't like it,don't eat it,dude. That's simple. Why bad mouth it. And why bad mouth korean site. Why waste your time? STINK? Do you know where "CHINK" originated from? Get your fact straight, dude. And most of korean women don't like stinky chinks. Thousands of chinese culture is useless, producing man chinks like you, spaming a good site...disgusting.
an interesting news on bbc: South Korean police have clashed with demonstrators in the capital Seoul during protests over government plans to resume US beef imports.
They fired water cannon and arrested more than 200 of the protesters, who say the move does not protect consumers against mad cow disease.
Under a deal reached with Washington in April, Seoul agreed to accept all cuts of US beef from cattle of all ages.
Other US trading partners such as Japan still will not do so because of concerns over mad cow disease and its deadly human variant, Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease.
The deal was announced during a visit to the US by President Lee, and was described by his critics as a move to please Washington.
I THINK CIRCLEFATE, THAT i know more koreans than you and let me say THERE ARE NO KOREANS THAT "PRETEND" THEYRE JAPANESE..HAHAHA...YOU HAVE MENTAL PROBLEMS, WHATS THE CIRCLEFATE MEAN? "WA"? YEAH, WE KNOW YOURE JAPANESE. FACIST. CANT YOU LEARN AND BE RIGHT LIKE GERMANY AFTER WWii AND STOP YOUR RACIST FACIST HATE SPEWING, LOSER
LOL,I can't live a day without kimchi, but I could live thousands of years w/o knowing about chinese. Chinese may had been a good invention thousand years ago, but it had been developed with no effiency consideration...It's just a old baggage that has been worned out and lack of efficiency
How old are you? Have you ever been to korean restaurants? Your depth of understanding of your own as well as asian culture and their psyche is pathethic. You're a lost child with no identity, not to mention finding who you are. I bet you are 10 years old kid.
Unless circlefate is a chink of 10 years old, he is no different from so many china men who lack common sense, who sell raviolli
with shredded paper for filling inside or adding polluents to children's toy. Lack of common sense, dirty mind and filth are the their characteristics. Inviting people all over the world for Olympic to their polluted land to show off their improved living standards is sure lack of common sense.
Then obviously u are not a fan of Chinese characters, that's ok. I personally find traditional Chinese characters exceptionally pleasing to the eye =)
Oh, my god! what did you say? I can't read Chinese. Chinese Government should give more money to spread Korean to everyone instead of wasting money for Olympic to build a FAKE face about fucking communist!!!
and everyone. we cant be proud of our culture if we keep talking crap about china or japan. then we'll be the same as them. we must be purer and kinder. if we say, japan is nothing without korea , itll be like china saying that about korea and to be honest..most asians are linked to china way back, well..korea was more manchu which is still kinda china. japan doesnt want to admit their korean heritage any more than koreans wanting to admit their chinese link.
I know, but China's literacy rate is much lower, even after they introduced simplified characters. -_-
Nobody in Norway grows upset because Norwegian children don't know how to read ancient runes. The average Chinese is ignorant of his own country's history, anyway. They even tried to destroy their cultural monuments during the 60s and 70s!
China needs to give many thanks to S. Korea. Korea has become a world class nation with cultural and political influences. China has virtually wiped out it's culture under communism and they lost common senses as a result. Common senses among chinese is what at the stake. they have no choice, but to look at the world through the eyes of korea and learn from korea. The korean wave has played such pivotal role making the conerstone for them to open their eyes to see the world.
dude who cares if theres 1.3 billions speakers. all of them are chinese anyways. it would only matter if there was 1.3 billion foreigners who speak chinese but that isn't going to happen any time soon
Hwan-Gook and Bae-Dal-Gook (sin-si) is real historical kingdom, which goes back to 9000-5000 years ago. Propably worl anthropology must be re-interpreted accordingly. Do you know there are huge and so many pyramids in the mid-asia and north-easten china now, the places where Korean ancestors lived?
This is not myth, 2020fff. This may be really true, many tryants such as Chin-Si-Hawng (fist king of Chin), and Japanese imperialists and so on, they distorted the real history for their benefit as well as for badness to control the root people. Most of current history taught at school is 99.9% lie. Believe me. That's why there has been wars and jealousy.
here's a good evidence for ya. current Japanese loyal king is not Japanese. He's a descendant from one of ancient kingdoms of ancient Korea. you maybe wanna
google this to find out more info.
and don't be such a child. and please DON'T be offensive to other country, especially towards Korean. I dunno why japanese are so offensive towards Korea. you r not the one from god. respect others man.
>HanGeul may be invented by Korean ancestor or King in ancient Korean Kingdom, which is probably 7000-6000 years ago.
Has it been invented older than Chinese character?
In the hidden true history of Korea, first Kingdom is H(w)an-Gook, second is Bae-Dal-Gook, and then (Dangoon) Chosun and so on...
Probably hanguel was invented in Bae-Dal-Gook or Han-Gook, which is over 5000-7000 years ago. Modern civilization entails invention of characters, or vice versa.
dude hangul and chinese are two differnt things. the korean hanja has chinese roots.
are you chinese, if so don't be all pist off man. koreans don't have energy to battle both the japanese and the chinese. so, in short...hangul was invented by korea and no one is arguing over who invented chinese. btw, it's the japanese who teach made up history.
Unfortunately, we are living in a lost world. 'Chinese character' shouldn't be referred that way. Hanguel WAS develped from so called Ga-Rym-To characters which may have been used in ancient Korean Kingdom, so called Bae-Dal-Gook.
I've never thought of Hanguel this way. Actually I tought Hanguel to one of my Chilean friend just for fun. He learned it basically in a day and started writing Spanish language in Korean letters... And when I wrote some Korean words in Hangule he read it!(Of course he did not understand the meaning at all)
yep. Hangeul is originated from ancient characters. that's why some japanese old temple has some Hanguel characters with same pronounciation. japanese call it 'language of God' ----- from documentary I watched. It was very interesting.
Heavy misunderstanding causes jealousy and war. HanGeul was OFFICIALLY ARRANGED by KING SE-JONG. HanGeul may be invented by Korean ancestor or King in ancient Korean Kingdom, which is probably 7000-6000 years ago. How do you think world-best charaters were invented in just 500 years ago and prevailed now? It has long been inherited to Korean people (or other country's people).
most languages and alphabets just appeared and inventors are not specified to a certain person. however, hanguel was invented by king Sejong. that fact had been recorded and published into a book 'hunminjungum' about 5-6 hundred yrs ago. Well, more correctly, It is an invented 'alphabets' which is a major element of a language.
if you watch the video until the end, you would find out what exactly it is.
Taekkyon2coree It's probably more accurate to say the Korean language is the only language that didn't just evolve naturally. It was deliberately formed by a king and can be traced as such. It was designed to simplify Chinese.
The Manchurian's written language was also "invented" by a Manchu King around 1600, however using Mongolian alphabets. You can see them everywhere in Forbidden City.
NOOOOOO, Hangul was invented as a written counterpart to Hanguku. Koreans used Chinese when writing, not when speaking. So Hangul was invented to reflect the racial and linguistic distinction of the Korea. Chinese was still used thereafter, but it still reflected this distinction. And more importantly, literacy was brought to the common people.
Hangeul is not a language. It is the written form of the Korean language--its "alphabet". To say it was the only language that was invented is misleading. Sometimes Korean pride goes just a bit too far.

The claim that Korean and Japanese belong to the hypothetical ural-altaic family is generally rejected by the scientific community, although taught in Korea.
wallish 3 years ago
Please read ALL the following articles and let me know if you still think I'm wrong:
DISCOVER Magazine (June 1, 1998): "Japanese Roots" (this article also explains the language issue)
Newsweek (March 18, 2002): "The Ties That Bind: Japanese Are Just Beginning To Come To Grips With Their Korean Heritage"
The New York Times (March 11, 2002): "Japan Rediscovers Its Korean Past"
ThereIsNoJapaneseDNA 3 years ago 6
What I said about Ural-Altaic in the left column of my profile was a mistake, but somehow I can't change it. You'll see in my playlist on the right where I mentioned Altaic only. I wonder if you speak Japanese to know the difference or the similarity between the two languages. If you don't agree with me, you have a problem with generally accepted views held by most international scholars.
ThereIsNoJapaneseDNA 3 years ago 5
You speak the truth but your name is what provokes racism.

ThereIsNoJapaneseDNA 3 years ago 4

Also, the claim that Hiragana and Katakana came from Idu is a theory that has VERY little standing in academia.
wallish 3 years ago
There has not been much facts revealed to reputdate the standing that Hiragana and Katakana had not been influenced by Idu. Idu is still regarded as the origin of the japanese writing system..It coinsides with the era when much of immigration and transfer of the korean culture to japan took place.

Has it been invented older than Chinese character?
In the hidden true history of Korea, first Kingdom is H(w)an-Gook, second is Bae-Dal-Gook, and then (Dangoon) Chosun and so on...
Probably hanguel was invented in Bae-Dal-Gook or Han-Gook, which is over 5000-7000 years ago. Modern civilization entails invention of characters, or vice versa.

Unfortunately, we are living in a lost world. 'Chinese character' shouldn't be referred that way. Hanguel WAS develped from so called Ga-Rym-To characters which may have been used in ancient Korean Kingdom, so called Bae-Dal-Gook.

most languages and alphabets just appeared and inventors are not specified to a certain person. however, hanguel was invented by king Sejong. that fact had been recorded and published into a book 'hunminjungum' about 5-6 hundred yrs ago. Well, more correctly, It is an invented 'alphabets' which is a major element of a language.
if you watch the video until the end, you would find out what exactly it is.
lokeejun 4 years ago
