Just for nut'n to know I have seen another video for the s&w m&p and the piece that hangs down by itself when you drop the mag is the piece that holds your 'spine grip'. When you pull that out, you can change out the grip in the back if you need a smaller or bigger one depending on hand size
Pros: second best grip compared to HK P30L. So damn accurate, even in .45. Easy takedown. Very nice mag release. It's heavier than most would want, but it lets you get on target faster (just use it as a holster gun and the weight isn't a problem). The slide release is the best I've seen/felt. It's not jammed yet, though I clean it a lot to be honest. Good 3 dot sights. Cons: the trigger guard is rounded so I can't hold onto it well while shooting.
Also... the lanyard on the NEW models are a removal key to push down the slide lock pin inside the magazine chamber... If you dont push this slide lock pin down? The slide will NOT come off the weapon... The removable key also lets you change the palm swell... ITS A PAIN IN THE ASS to remove... lol...
There serrated slide pulls are AWESOME!!! Fingers NEVER slip when pulling slide back!
@CastingStonez Do you live in a state with magazine capacity restrictions? Because according to Smith's website it does still come with 17rd mags. Also, you don't need to push down the sear activation lever if you don't want to, you can just pull the trigger and the slide can come off that way as well. I picked up a LEO trade-in for $300 OTD last month.
I couldnt decide between a glock, the m&p 45, and fnx 45. But last week i picked up a full-sized m&p 45 for $480 brand new. I took it to the range and shot 100 rounds and it didnt malfunction once. Its a great gun. I recomend it to anyone.
I think it's time Nutnfancy did a new review on this gun... There is a much longer track record now and this review was not as well informed as it could bed a new one were to be made.
I just wanted to say I believe that "protrusion" that is sticking out the bottom of the gun is a lot bigger on the "Spec-Ops" version than on the standard version. and it also has a lanyard hole. which the standard does not. so that must be a "SPEC-OPS" thing!
I'm an IDPA member and competitive shooter and have two M&P's one in standard size and one Pro Series 5'' barrel version and I have shot each gun in numerous competitions and one was yesterday and had a round count of 350rnds. I didn't clean or lubricate it at all before the match and never had a jam. I need to lube it more just for the hell of it. but it actually isn't needed! haha! So yes it is very reliable VERY reliable. I see Glocks choke more actually! Sorry Glock fans.
hey nutn all of the pds in florida got rid of the g22 for the mp40. also mp is like 75$ cheaper and better stock parts then glock. 465$ new best deal on a gun ive bought
i have the compact version of this gun and i absolutely adore it. it shoots like a dream. i'm curious though as to why the full-size versions have a beavertail grip and the compact versions don't? anyone know? is it just for concealability reasons( on the compact obviously)?
WHAT? you NEVER shot it and you're doing a review on it. That's like reading a book on flying and jumping into the pilot seat of a 747 and saying "let go to Hawall". I have owned several Glocks, I carry one on duty, I shoot expert all the time, I'm a rangemaster, I own a M&P 9. The M&P is a better pistol. Glock gen4 copied the M&P grip.
@jerryspriinger "A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed" take it how you will, but don't tell nutnfancy he is Wrong. does the 2nd amendment protect your right to own a sawed off shotgun? NO! but its a firearm is it not? I am an avid gun collector and i interpret the 2nd amendment as the right for individual ownership of a wide varity of firearms but its all about personal interpretation.
take the slides off that 17 and the M&p. m&p is a litttle more beefy in the plastic to metal ratio in the frame. dont own 1 but have played with both..
at first i didnt warm up to the firearm. but its the standered issue handgun of Colorado Springs Police Department, and when i went threw the academy i fell in love with it.
I have seen one of these crack the frame just above the cam block pin by the take down lever. In fairness it had over 150 thousand rounds as a range rental gun through it. Smith will not honor the life time warranty on a range pistol. I personally own one of these and after trading a Ruger SR9 that kept drooping a cam block pin that Ruger could not seem to fix, its far Superior to the Ruger. Feel is better than the Sr and accuracy about the same.
This Guy pisses me off!!! Shoot the gun before you do a review on it. Also the most basis review i have seen in a while. smith and wesson M&P 45, handgun of the YEAR 2007
@nathangrz how about you watch the next M&P9 vid from nutn before you get all tender footed. This vids serves as a good initial comparison before shooting and the next one provides his actual shooting experience.
"The m&p9 weighs as much as a p226." NO m&p9 weighs 24 ounces and the p226 weighs 34 ounces, 10 ounces different is not the same. In fact the m&p9 only weighs 2 ounces more than the glock 17.
Hey Nut'n love ur Channel! I got a a few comment additions to this video. First of all the extra 3oz vs Glock is in the Slide. Also NM State Police is issued the M&P in a .357 sig. And possibly NJ highway patrol. To conclude I picked up my M&P 40 for $489 wit LEO/Military discount from local gun store. But retain was $539...$549 for the compact version lol. But jus wanted to add a lil more info for us TNP'rs. Thanks for ur time and keep up the good work!
i really liked the S&W m&P .45 i held at outdoorworld the other day. it's the kind of pistol i'd be attached to enough to never change and possibly be a fanboy of. it just feels so great and is built like a tank.
Love watching your vids, and listening to your insight on different things, but to me it sounds like you're playing favorites with the glock. I know they have been time tested and are now the "standard" for handguns, but what is commonly said "one size fits all" is never true.
I bought a SR9 and loved how it shot and the feel of it. But first time at the range the cam block pin walked out three quarters of the way. I pushed it back in and it did it again. I sent it back to Ruger and they put in a new pin [and though that would work. ] I got it back and it walked out half way in ten rounds. I pushed it back and it did it again. Sold the gun for what I paid for it and am now looking at the M&P I hope this gun is it, I rented one at the range and the frame cracked.
I have enjoyed this pistol for years. Mine has the Crimson Trace laser that replaces the backstrap, and is perhaps one of the coolest polymer frame setups I've seen.
It shoots any ammo, is accurate and the laser is easy to use, and transparent in that normal holsters work fine with it, and you only notice it when you need it.
I have added Trueglo tritium/fiber optic sights, and they are excellent.
i carry the gun everyday...the weight brings no problems to the table. you really dont have to press the trigger to disassemble the gun but it is quicker. like every gun there are things u are goin dislike about it. but overall i love it. i hate the fact when i got mine there were so many differnt versions i could of brought a better one in my opinion. but love the vids keep up the good work.
I guess my point was that there have been reliable and accurate semi autos for 100 years. My dad carried a beat up USMC issue WWII 1911 for two years in Vietnam 1965-'67, many commies were sent to the next life with that old 1911 (he also used the M14 and M16 in combat). I don't "get" the whole 80's thing. There were GREAT semis back then, the public and even the police were just silly. Our troops carried 1911's into battle in WWI! I'd carry one of my Colt 1911's TODAY, if they weren't so nice.
Don't get me wrong, dude... I carry a Glock 17 now, yes, I know, big, but it doesn't bother me. And the main reason is the price. I don't want to beat up my "nicer" (more expensive) pistols, like my Sigs, Colts, Brownings, whatever. They have turned into "safe queens", as I take REALLY good care of my pistols, so I rummaged around through them and decided on the 17 because it was less than $500 and had new night sights.
Nutn! BLASPHEMY! The Browning Hi-Power has been around since 1935. I have two, an actual FN browning Hi-Power I bought in the early 90's, has never jammed once in almost 20 years! And the other is a cheapo FEG copy, that has also never jammed, although not fired as much as the FN, and "only" about 10 years old. And both are VERY accurate. And S&W has made semi autos since 1913, and have always been great. 9's from maybe the 50's or 60's. And what about the 1911? My Colts have never jammed once!
The trigger does not have to be pulled for disassembly. The only unusual step is to pull down the magazine tab inside the chamber area, then pull down takedown lever, hold slide and grip of gun with both hands, hit the slide release and ride the slide forward
i still have a bad taste in my mouth because the m and p because it killed the gun i learned to shoot with the 5906 the best american 9mm ever made , im almost ready to give it a try
for me i cant stand glocks for the ergonomics, its not comfortable for me at all, the m&p is by far the better gun ergonomically.i can take the little bit of extra weight for that alone.
just a reminder to everyone. SHOOT THE GUN BEFORE YOU BUY IT! i was happy i did. i almost bought a glock 17. my local gun store let us take out the glock 17 and the s&w M&p 9. i hated the glock. i thought ide love it. just try alot of options!
I am an armed guard and a carry the 40 caliber variant of the M&P. I have never had a failure it is very accurate. I used to carry a glock 22. I sold it and bought the M&P. Never looked back.
Weight eats up kick. The fact the barrel protrudes somewhat from the barrel is therefore good. This could be very good choice for an arthritis/carpal tunnel syndrome patient
you know I was just thinking/realized that that funny 'protrusion'/backstrap tool probably also doubles as a little guard for your palm during magazine changes. Buddy of mine has a glock (19? i think) anyway he's pinched his palm in there during speed reloads/under stress a few times. This would eliminate that problem entirely for any shooter w/ big hands, or if its a compact, subcompact, etc.
@rubadubdubxoxo your a moron!!!! Nut'n served his country for 20 years!!!! that gives hum the xcuse to dress up however he wants to while your just going to your same old boring job every day!!!
i think the reason that there are so many comparisons to glocks and sigs is because more people are very familiar with those guns and its easier to explain to someone who has never handled this m&p the differences. stop hatin glocks are badass and if any gun should be used as a comparison thats the one.
Hey Nut'n as a Glock guy for around 15 years, I recently aquired the M&P 9. whew this puppy groups. I love my g17,and G19, BUT I really think the M&P is the better shooter. Really ergonomic, low bore axis, and no malfunctions under adverse conditions. I shoot IDPA and IPSC and work in the security field and shoot a great deal ( around 700-1500 rounds a month). Love the Glock, but Lovin the M&P as well.
@tactical2bagpipes . We need more honest people like you. I've noticed that most Glock lovers are very biased and wont even consider that something else might be as good. The M&P is awesome.
The title of this video is "Smith & Wesson M&P9: High Speed, Low Drag Nine" why does every video turn into a Glock comparison video? Just review the gun. Don't compare eveything to the Glock. Damn is that annoying.
@todd2309 You need to be less biased against firearms based on personal reasons when reviewing or studying guns. The Glock has a track record, performance, reliability, and quantity of issue among law enforcement and military around the world that nearly no other firearm can match. If you disagree with this, you are misinformed and should reconsider your view on Glocks and review the history of their deployment.
Yes sir!! IMO i think he beats up on the weight issue to much is cause he run & guns so much and he tries to find the right balance so he won't get worn out. Guys in the military carry way more weight then he does. To them weight is not an issue, kicking butt is whats its all about. But yeah, he does take the weight issue way to far sometimes.
@mickster424 He is in the military ,Einstein. Air Force. I don't care about weight or size either, I WANT people to know I am carrying, that is part of the deterent.... BUt I also understand his point of weight. If you don't understand it, then you have never been in the bush and have no idea to even have an opinion.
@tactical2bagpipes Anyone who says weight is not an issue obviously has little experience carrying firearms routinely and for extended periods of time. I have carried since I was 18. I carry almost 100% of the time. I can tell you that even a Glock 26 on your hip, at the end of a 12 hour work day, be uncomfortable. If your not carrying much then weight might not be a big deal, but if your considering living an armed life style as much as you can, dump this advice and pay attention to weight.
@generalcarver if your takin a shot at me you cease that shit right now. I am a combat veteran and work in an armed profession. I carry on duty EVERYday, and off duty EVERY DAY. I carry full size pistols including gear. The weight of the weapon plays no concern for my choice. Quality is what concerns me not weight.
@mizu345 I carry every day. I carry concealed as well. It isnt meant to be comfortable, it is a deadly weapon, not panties. There is a diffrence between comforting and comfortable.
@tactical2bagpipes I carry as well, and to me weight is a HUGE factor in the carry gun I will purchase including how well disguised it is on your person. I work at a corporate firm and I don't have the luxury in wearing whatever I want. I wear suit and tie, ergonomics, size, width, reliability, and accuracy are all factors i take into account.
For my purpose those I carry a glock 27 in a IWB holster and it's impossible to detect and very comfortable in my clothing.
@tactical2bagpipes ya a lot of the newer cc'ers are getting all metrosexual about weight. I enjoy the feeling of knowing there's a pistol on my back. I carry an M&P .40
@mickster424 This comment is irrelevant. Men in the military do not have the freedom to choose what they carry for weapons. Also, Nutn brings up the weight issue because it is important to consider for law enforcement and civilian CCW. If you only carry 10% of your time and have a sedentary lifestyle, weight never seems like an issue. Try carrying 90% or more of your time and you will learn that weight does matter and will fatigue you more than you think, especially if your active.
I love nutnfancy's enthusiastic reviews, over guys just drone "on and ON" about things you don't care about.
The gun is so cool but I had to do "etc" with customer service because I screwed up a mod "blah blah blah", and they tell you NOTHING about the guns merits over other similar options!
I just shot this gun (100rds, blazers)! no hickups, jams or duds, just ate every round, double tap exercise and the gun was very controllable. the M&P is a ambidextrous gun and the mag catch can be switched, the trigger wasn't a strong pull...def buying it :)
@0siris85 Who nutnfancy? Watch his follow up video of the m&p and you'll change your mind. This gun is great and nutnfancy isn't biased at all. He loves his Glocks, so what? They've done well by many people for decades, they're great guns and he gives them their dues. He gives the m&p theirs as well
Please watch on my channel “Innocents Betrayed The History of Gun Control” and my heart goes out to families that are hurt by this tragedy. I would have helped protect you with my ar-15 against that crazy shooter if I was was there.
@KMP2186 glock 17 is the most widely used handgun in the world i have never had a problem with my glocks my glock 21 has over 5000 rounds through it with new ammo it will never jam until you put about 500 rounds through it and its covered in shit, glock is the standard in striker fired pistols
can someone explain to me the concept behind the "Tilting barrel design"? Is this considered a superior design compared to pistols such as the 1911, which is not a tilting barrel pistol?
I love this gun, something with it just connected with me. Honestly, the first time i shot with the M&P in .40 i shot better than the first time i shot with glock in 9mm.
I got my M&P9 for 450 with a military discount of 10% I think Impact Arms is just a tad expensive they usually retail for 500 even. Great gun Ive got 400 rounds through mine without skipping a beat.
I'm sure someone has already mentioned it by now, but that "little protrusion on the bottom of the gun" not only rotates 90 degrees and slides out for the removal of the backstrap, but it is also the tool used in the dis-assembly of the firearm for cleaning.
Like the videos Man but I disagree with concealed carry I carry mine everyday full size 9mm in a crossbreed holster. The accuracy on the M&P is way above the glock check out any glock site they never really touch on the accuracy of the glock I am a daily shooter at the range with this pistol and I see glock shooters around me that eathor suck at shooting or the gun sucks.
Dude, around the 13min mark you make a mistake. That portrusion is actually the tool keeping the grips on.
You twist it to the left or right and then pull it out and then remove and replace the grips as you desire. Then you just put it back, twist and voila.
It can't be sanded down much past the mark where it lines up with the magazine when one is in there.
i have the m&p 45 and the take down tool is smaller on mine. i think its from the lanyard spot, my 45 does not have that. i've looked for the spec-opps and cant find one, but all of the other 9mm i have seen do not have that. the norm take down tools (very hookie) are only a few cm above the mag. love the work, keep it up. i do love the 45acp m&p.
M&P9c is my EDC weapon. Excellent choice and much more ergonomic than Glocks IMO. Worth considering if you happen to be in the market for a polymer frame personal protection weapon.
@jkmcdani think the triggers of the firearms are very comparable, but it was the overall ergonomics of the M&P that sold me. The serrations on the slide are interesting to look at and dig in like no other slide serrations I've handled, the texturing on the frame and even the mag release is fantastic, and the swappable back straps give you a bit of flexibility. Mine has a crimson trace grip that is excellent and makes use of the interchangeable back strap system.
Also, it is easier to dry fire when removing the barrel but for a bit of added safety S&W had put in a release lever that allows you to remove the slide without dry firing. the lever is painted yellow and is located directly below the ejector. Push it forward, pull down the barrel release lever and slide you barrel off.
i didnt go through the 7 pages of comments to see if someone already mentioned but the protruding at the bottom is the palm swell release. To release the palm swell you must take out the mag and turn it a 1/4 turn in either direction and pull it out. Do not over turn it will strip the small plastic stud that holds everthing in place.

As usual nutnfancy delivers a great review with plenty of information. I've owned an FNP-40 and now a M&P40c. Bother are very very reliable and durable. Not sure about the FNP-9 but the FNP-40 suffers from its light weight. FNP is too top heavy and seems to have a long slide travel. The M&P may weight more than its competitors, but it is much more controllable than the FN. Only down side is that it lacks a front trigger guard stippling or grip area.
If you're talking standard magazines, with add on base plates, the M&P 9 wins.17 round magazine, with a 6 round extension, for a total of 23 rounds with the base plate. Glock only beats it with that ridiculous 33 round magazine.
I’m new to handguns and recently took a class at the local range with my wife. First pistol will have to be used by both of us for a few months. I was leaning toward the Glock19, but her small hands had to reach too far to the trigger. She loved the M&P9 fit with the small insert, so looks like that’s the one we’ll get. The medium one works for me. Awesome ergonomics. I have a lot of respect for your opinion, so your review gives me a good feeling about dropping a few more bucks on the M&P9
@craigon69 hay i don't know if you still want a glock 19 but there is a 4gen one that has a smaller grip and you can also a just the grip like the m&p they came out a few months back so i would look into that if she has small hads just a thought hope it can help just search youtube and see what you think
@edog355 Thanks! Went to the shop/range today and shot the g-19 again (among others). Their g-19 rental is a Gen 3. I asked the guy about the Gen4, and he said they took a micrometer to it and the grip on the G4 is the same size as a G3 and that the back straps just make it bigger. So if that's indeed true it wouldn't help wife's main complaint. But I have decided to just get the g-19. It's not that bad for her! In mean time, she can then take her time to find one more to her liking.
@craigon69 ok than if you still want a glock i would try a glock 26 its a lot smaller i don't know if it would fit her hand but just an idea hope she finds one that she likes and is both conferable with and happy too good luck
Also the little protrusion at the bottom of the grip actually holds the backstrap on, and doubles as a pin to actuate the sear disconnect for takedown
Hey just wanted to mention, The M&P is a single action trigger, if you look at the sear you will see it simply pivots to drop out from the fully cocked striker.Like the sr9 the M&P comes with a sear disconnect, it is simply a small lever that forces the front of the sear up to drop the rear of the sear allowing the slide to come off with out the striker catching. the sr9 uses a movable ejector to drop the trigger bar below the striker allowing both pistols to be taken down without dry fire.
i live in massachusetts so mine came with a ten round mag and over a 10lbs trigger pull but if you buy it in a state that isn't mass or cali it's not an issue. i have put a lot of rounds though it and i have never had a miss fire. great gun! and a great review, thanks.
You use the term civilian "Sheep Dog." You must have heard of LTC Grossman! Great man. Good review. I have an M&P 40 with about 1100 rounds through it. Nice grip, love the beaver tail over the Glock, but that is where it ends. The Glock trigger way better and can be changed in seconds with a couple easy to install parts. The M&P slide must have the rear site removed to remove the firing pin safety block. Nice shooting pistol in some ways, but the king of the cop/FBI holster is still Glock!!
With close to thirty one years as a police firearms instructor that has issued, trained with and carried S&W revolvers, Sigs, and Glock pistols, I can tell you that a lot of guns have come and gone and this will also be the case for the M&P. The trigger reset is poor, even with the APEX Tactical parts the M&P trigger reset can still not be palpated or heard. Try working on an M&P!! I can take down a Glock or a Sig without using my asp baton to beat it apart. Must remove rear site for slide str
Sorry to leave 2 comments but I forgot some stuff. the .45 version of this gun appears to have a safety from the pictures I have seen. I'm not sure but it looks like one.
and I think the number is at 330 Police Departments are using this gun. Cincinnati Police and the Detroit police use it I think.
Cool video. I wish you could have had some trigger time with this gun so you could give us your opinion. The M&P does not have to be fired to be taken apart. I'm sure you figured this out though by now. Just clearing that up for the newbies out there. Thanks for the vid.
I'm looking to get my first firearm for recreational target shooting and was looking at the M&P9 or the M&P40. Is there much of a difference between the two or are they just the same gun in different calibers?
i spoke to an albuquerque city police officer and their entire department made the switch from the glock 19 to the m&p. he told me that it was because; overall, they acheived greater accuracy during testing/training, and they also found the m&p's to be more reliable. i havent done any shooting with one of these yet either and just thought some extra info might help. i appreciate what you do.
I shoot IDPA all the time & i shot a new model M&P 9mm, I am not sure if the new models are as heavy as this, but i found it to be more accurate then the glock19 & just as accurate as the 17 I also found it to be slightly smoother then the 19( of course it is bigger then the 19) but it doesnt have the pop that the 19 has. So if u are looking for a compatition gun or just a home defense pistol u cant really go wrong with this gun, it is a tad big for CCW though
For the life of me, I can't understand why people prefer striker-fired pistols over DA/SA. Not meant as a troll remark -- but isn't it better to have more options (or at least a trigger safety)?
i gotta have one, picked one up and it was an extension of my hand, felt like my hand turned into a 9mm. the bore axis has also sold me, i hate the bore axis on the XDs, they are awesome guns, just to high of a bore axis, and the glock grip angle is my only gripe, the glock 19 is top on my list with the M&P
best thing to do is go and shoot both the glock and the MP9 and see which one works for you best its pointless to argue one is better than the other. I loved the MP9 hated the glock and my friends loved the glock hated the MP9 so shoot what ever works for u
Im looking for this barrel but i carry this pistol CCW its a little heavy yes and kinda big and im a small guy like 5'10" 150lbs i carry it just behind the hip to kinda match the conture of my body but i love this pistol i only carry 10 rounds in the mag or 9+1 im not headed to a fire fight and i carry one spare mag complete. LOVE THIS PISTOL never had a prob with it.
You don't have to pull the trigger to field strip... just hit the takedown lever in the mag well. I've never tried pulling the trigger instead of using the takedown tool but I guess you can do either.
@ST4leave Yes they are, Australia has some of the toughest gun laws in the world. Most civilians wont even see the cool guns that you guys get to play with in America. Thats why I love watching Nutnfancys videos of the gun stores over there, so I can at least see all the guns, even if I'll never get to shot them.
In the late 80's people were still leery of Glock's. They thought they were a JOKE! SO there WAS no lock on the market than...ANd people were buying surplus guns so much, it didn't matter. They weren't popular until the around the early 90's. NO ONE wanted a Glock. They were thought of as BUTT ugly, and plastic still in our minds than would not hold up. The Beretta 92 and the Taurus and Smith And Wesson 459's were the way to go than and RUGER P-85's, GLocks WERE FORCED ON US. I know. I was there.

Not to take anything away from you Nutnfancy but I think its time to stop comparing all these handguns against your Glock. IMO I think you should just do a straight up review and just tell us about your pros and cons as you go down your list. We already know its just your OPINION. Im pretty much sure all your subscribers already know your 17 is you standard and all that great stuff!
@mickster424 For better or worse, the Glock pistol (in all three size classes) has become THE standard to which all modern pistols are compared. It makes sense for Nutnfancy to use Glock as a reference point. It is what most people know, so they can relate.
A product review is always going to be nothing more than the opinion of the reviewer. It is up the the audience to determine the value of the review based upon the experience and credentials of the reviewer.
@mickster424 he tends to beat up on weight too... the weight of a heavier pistol helps it down when firing rapidly.... alot of people call it (as long as it is balanced) "good weight"
Just for nut'n to know I have seen another video for the s&w m&p and the piece that hangs down by itself when you drop the mag is the piece that holds your 'spine grip'. When you pull that out, you can change out the grip in the back if you need a smaller or bigger one depending on hand size
TheJayhawk16 1 week ago
Pros: second best grip compared to HK P30L. So damn accurate, even in .45. Easy takedown. Very nice mag release. It's heavier than most would want, but it lets you get on target faster (just use it as a holster gun and the weight isn't a problem). The slide release is the best I've seen/felt. It's not jammed yet, though I clean it a lot to be honest. Good 3 dot sights. Cons: the trigger guard is rounded so I can't hold onto it well while shooting.

No more 17 rounds...
ONLY 10 with purchase of weapon...
Also... the lanyard on the NEW models are a removal key to push down the slide lock pin inside the magazine chamber...
$592 out the door...

Sorry Glock fans.

i have the compact version of this gun and i absolutely adore it. it shoots like a dream. i'm curious though as to why the full-size versions have a beavertail grip and the compact versions don't? anyone know? is it just for concealability reasons( on the compact obviously)?
IamCOLLEGE 4 months ago
WHAT? you NEVER shot it and you're doing a review on it.

You're wrong about the second amendment. What are your qualifications when it comes to firearms?
jerryspriinger 4 months ago
@jerryspriinger "A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed" take it how you will, but don't tell nutnfancy he is Wrong. does the 2nd amendment protect your right to own a sawed off shotgun? NO! but its a firearm is it not? I am an avid gun collector and i interpret the 2nd amendment as the right for individual ownership of a wide varity of firearms but its all about personal interpretation.

The M&P prayer
Now I lay me down to sleep
My M&P I pray to keep
Her three green eyes so big and bright
Comfort me throughout the night
Her full firm grip fills my hand like no other in Gun land
I squeeze her trigger tenderly
She never fails to work for me
And with the sounds of thunder from above she brings to me her Cold Steel Love.
Amen.

Love watching your vids, and listening to your insight on different things, but to me it sounds like you're playing favorites with the glock. I know they have been time tested and are now the "standard" for handguns, but what is commonly said "one size fits all" is never true.
This is just my opinion.

Sold the gun for what I paid for it and am now looking at the M&P I hope this gun is it, I rented one at the range and the frame cracked.
edteach2u 8 months ago in playlist S&W M&P
I have enjoyed this pistol for years. Mine has the Crimson Trace laser that replaces the backstrap, and is perhaps one of the coolest polymer frame setups I've seen.
It shoots any ammo, is accurate and the laser is easy to use, and transparent in that normal holsters work fine with it, and you only notice it when you need it.
I have added Trueglo tritium/fiber optic sights, and they are excellent.

@SgtFury1972 damn strait. Well said.
tactical2bagpipes 8 months ago
Don't get me wrong, dude... I carry a Glock 17 now, yes, I know, big, but it doesn't bother me. And the main reason is the price. I don't want to beat up my "nicer" (more expensive) pistols, like my Sigs, Colts, Brownings, whatever. They have turned into "safe queens", as I take REALLY good care of my pistols, so I rummaged around through them and decided on the 17 because it was less than $500 and had new night sights.
SgtFury1972 9 months ago
Nutn! My Colts have never jammed once!

you know I was just thinking/realized that that funny 'protrusion'/backstrap tool probably also doubles as a little guard for your palm during magazine changes. Buddy of mine has a glock (19? i think) anyway he's pinched his palm in there during speed reloads/under stress a few times. This would eliminate that problem entirely for any shooter w/ big hands, or if its a compact, subcompact, etc.

The title of this video is "Smith & Wesson M&P9: High Speed, Low Drag Nine" why does every video turn into a Glock comparison video? Just review the gun. Don't compare eveything to the Glock. Damn is that annoying.
todd2309 1 year ago
@todd2309 You need to be less biased against firearms based on personal reasons when reviewing or studying guns. The Glock has a track record, performance, reliability, and quantity of issue among law enforcement and military around the world that nearly no other firearm can match. If you disagree with this, you are misinformed and should reconsider your view on Glocks and review the history of their deployment.
generalcarver 11 months ago
Yes sir!! IMO i think he beats up on the weight issue to much is cause he run & guns so much and he tries to find the right balance so he won't get worn out. Guys in the military carry way more weight then he does. To them weight is not an issue, kicking butt is whats its all about. But yeah, he does take the weight issue way to far sometimes.
mickster424 1 year ago
@mickster424 He is in the military ,Einstein. Air Force. I don't care about weight or size either, I WANT people to know I am carrying, that is part of the deterent.... BUt I also understand his point of weight. If you don't understand it, then you have never been in the bush and have no idea to even have an opinion.
tactical2bagpipes 1 year ago
@tactical2bagpipes Anyone who says weight is not an issue obviously has little experience carrying firearms routinely and for extended periods of time. I have carried since I was 18. I carry almost 100% of the time. I can tell you that even a Glock 26 on your hip, at the end of a 12 hour work day, be uncomfortable. If your not carrying much then weight might not be a big deal, but if your considering living an armed life style as much as you can, dump this advice and pay attention to weight.
generalcarver 11 months ago
@generalcarver if your takin a shot at me you cease that shit right now. I am a combat veteran and work in an armed profession. I carry on duty EVERYday, and off duty EVERY DAY. I carry full size pistols including gear. The weight of the weapon plays no concern for my choice. Quality is what concerns me not weight.
tactical2bagpipes 11 months ago 21
@tactical2bagpipes weight is more of a concern for people who conceal carry, especially when you talk about comfort.
I agree about your belief in quality, but quality and comfort guarantees that you will carry every day.
mizu345 9 months ago
@mizu345 I carry every day. I carry concealed as well. It isnt meant to be comfortable, it is a deadly weapon, not panties. There is a diffrence between comforting and comfortable.
tactical2bagpipes 9 months ago
@tactical2bagpipes I carry as well, and to me weight is a HUGE factor in the carry gun I will purchase including how well disguised it is on your person. I work at a corporate firm and I don't have the luxury in wearing whatever I want. I wear suit and tie, ergonomics, size, width, reliability, and accuracy are all factors i take into account.
For my purpose those I carry a glock 27 in a IWB holster and it's impossible to detect and very comfortable in my clothing.
mizu345 9 months ago
@mizu345 I carry concealed. I usually carry an XDM 9, but a full size 5 inch kimber or a Glock 21 is not out of range for my ccw either.
tactical2bagpipes 8 months ago

TDotts26 1 month ago
@TDotts26 if you fall on your pistol it will break your vertabrae.
runhorun 1 month ago
@mickster424 This comment is irrelevant. Men in the military do not have the freedom to choose what they carry for weapons. Also, Nutn brings up the weight issue because it is important to consider for law enforcement and civilian CCW. If you only carry 10% of your time and have a sedentary lifestyle, weight never seems like an issue. Try carrying 90% or more of your time and you will learn that weight does matter and will fatigue you more than you think, especially if your active.

I'm sure someone has already mentioned it by now, but that "little protrusion on the bottom of the gun" not only rotates 90 degrees and slides out for the removal of the backstrap, but it is also the tool used in the dis-assembly of the firearm for cleaning.
Very neat and efficient, in my opinion.

Delorean2867 1 year ago
@Delorean2867 How do the two trigger compare?
jkmcdani 1 year ago
@jkmcdani think the triggers of the firearms are very comparable, but it was the overall ergonomics of the M&P that sold me. The serrations on the slide are interesting to look at and dig in like no other slide serrations I've handled, the texturing on the frame and even the mag release is fantastic, and the swappable back straps give you a bit of flexibility. Mine has a crimson trace grip that is excellent and makes use of the interchangeable back strap system.
Delorean2867 1 year ago

@craigon69 hay i don't know if you still want a glock 19 but there is a 4gen one that has a smaller grip and you can also a just the grip like the m&p they came out a few months back so i would look into that if she has small hads just a thought hope it can help just search youtube and see what you think
edog355 1 year ago

Also the little protrusion at the bottom of the grip actually holds the backstrap on, and doubles as a pin to actuate the sear disconnect for takedown
waynecostanza 1 year ago
Hey just wanted to mention, The M&P is a single action trigger, if you look at the sear you will see it simply pivots to drop out from the fully cocked striker.Like the sr9 the M&P comes with a sear disconnect, it is simply a small lever that forces the front of the sear up to drop the rear of the sear allowing the slide to come off with out the striker catching. the sr9 uses a movable ejector to drop the trigger bar below the striker allowing both pistols to be taken down without dry fire.

i live in massachusetts so mine came with a ten round mag and over a 10lbs trigger pull but if you buy it in a state that isn't mass or cali it's not an issue. i have put a lot of rounds though it and i have never had a miss fire. great gun! and a great review, thanks.

how much weight does the threaded extension add?

So Glock and Sig were the only reliable semi-auto pistols throughout the 80's and 90's? And you're not "brand myopic"? Right...

smith and wessons r what my local police use

i spoke to an albuquerque city police officer and their entire department made the switch from the glock 19 to the m&p. he told me that it was because; overall, they acheived greater accuracy during testing/training, and they also found the m&p's to be more reliable. i havent done any shooting with one of these yet either and just thought some extra info might help. i appreciate what you do.

Not meant as a troll remark -- but isn't it better to have more options (or at least a trigger safety)?

i gotta have one, picked one up and it was an extension of my hand, felt like my hand turned into a 9mm. the bore axis has also sold me, i hate the bore axis on the XDs, they are awesome guns, just to high of a bore axis, and the glock grip angle is my only gripe, the glock 19 is top on my list with the M&P
davism4a1 1 year ago
best thing to do is go and shoot both the glock and the MP9 and see which one works for you best its pointless to argue one is better than the other.

The85Fox 1 year ago
You do not have to pull the trigger to take it down. It has a lever inside you can set forward.
Warpath2198 1 year ago
You don't have to pull the trigger to field strip... just hit the takedown lever in the mag well. I've never tried pulling the trigger instead of using the takedown tool but I guess you can do either.

Great review, thanks. Have ordered an M&P9L, as we need a 5 inch barrel here in Australia.

@Duffo007 are Australian gun laws strict
ST4leave 1 year ago

@mickster424
He compares it to his glock because glock has set the standard, like it or not.

HYBRIDCOMBATIVES 1 year ago
@mickster424 What good is a review without comparison? You can't do a review of a gun in a vacuum.
Makingnewnamesisdumb 1 year ago
@mickster424 For better or worse, the Glock pistol (in all three size classes) has become THE standard to which all modern pistols are compared. It makes sense for Nutnfancy to use Glock as a reference point. It is what most people know, so they can relate.
A product review is always going to be nothing more than the opinion of the reviewer. It is up the the audience to determine the value of the review based upon the experience and credentials of the reviewer.

@mickster424 glocks are more popular than any other polymer gun so people can relate more to what they know

@mickster424 he tends to beat up on weight too... the weight of a heavier pistol helps it down when firing rapidly.... alot of people call it (as long as it is balanced) "good weight"
