  • It's the season of scars and of wounds in the heart

Of feeling the full weight of our burdens

It's the season of bowing our heads in the wind

And knowing we are not alone in fear

    Not alone in the dark

  • It's the season of grace coming out of the void Where a man is saved by a voice in the distance It's the season of possible miracle cures Where hope is currency and death is not the last unknown Where time begins to fade And age is welcome home It's the season of eyes meeting over the noise And holding fast with sharp realization It's the season of cold making warmth a divine intervention You are safe here you know now Don't forget Don't forget I love I love I love you
  • This is for being a better human.

  • Beautiful. Spread the message of good tidings and cheer to all, and may all share a happy and splendid Yule. Saludos, todos!

  • Christians fail to notice that their pwecious celebration is the corruption of the celebration of the grace of Sol Invictus.

The more they whine, the more hypocrital dumbasses they become.

  • Vienna Teng is misspelled in the Tag list

  • @cornbreadwillie What about the people who dont believe in christ but still celebrate christmas?? they need songs too

  • @coolbluemidnite So people do not believe in Christ, but they celebrate Him?

  • @beenjammintx you have to think outside of your own beliefs. see, most non believers have no problem celebrating christmas because the spirit of the season is universal. as is evident in the song, atheists celebrate the message of the holidays - love, kindness, comfort, consolation, forgiveness - founded on a common humanity that transcends our unbelief & your belief. in effect, christmas doesn't divide believers and nonbelievers; it unites them. it's the stuff christmas miracles are made of :)

  • @bohemianbeagle God gives us the ability to choose what we believe. If He did not, we humans, loving our creator would be meaningless. Where does the Spirit come from and why does it come? I am a follower of Christ; my faith is the evidence of things unseen. I am not one to shove the Bible down people's throat, and I hope that I have not come across that way. I simply do what I can to shine the Light where I see and absence of Light. I encourage you to read the Bible. Merry Xmas!

  • @beenjammintx And happy holidays to you too good sir! So polite! Not everybody across different beliefs act so civil. :)

  • @bohemianbeagle This may be the most decent and humane comment I have ever read. Well said, truly.

  • @beenjammintx historical evidence shows that christ's birth was not in the winter as it is celebrated, instead, the reason christians celebrate at this time of year is because the church chose to overlay the already present holidays of yule, solstice, saturnalia and so forth which were celebrating the longest night with christ's birth because there are similarities. it is one of many instances where the 'new craze' (christianity) came along and laid its own holidays over the old.

  • @beenjammintx "Christmas" was stolen by Christianity, which was the Pagan winter solstice celebration iirc.....also a hell of a lot of the bible was stolen directly from the Egyptian book of the dead.

  • @robbyxc Completely out of curiosity, which part of the bible was taken from the Book of the Dead? New Testament, Old, or both?

  • @FaeLunaMoonShiner There are loads of examples...Isis and the Virgin Mary...St Johns gospel ; in the beginning was the word, and the word was with God....Book of the dead : Iam Ra. i am that which created the word, i am the word.

There are many such examples and are easily found with a bit of research.

  • @cornbreadwillie Yet it is a joke ;)

  • @cornbreadwillie actually it was originally Yule before it was taken by Christians ^-^;;

  • Just shut up about your religious beliefs and listen to this beautiful song. >:|

  • Thank you so much for the meaning behind this carol. You are exceptionally talented.

  • beautiful song about humanity finding itself

  • This song is so fucking beautiful. Seriously. It's nice to hear a song about togetherness, humanity and love without all of the other bells and whistles that dumb down and nullify the meanings of all of the other ones.

  • This is absolutely beautiful.

  • Wow.

  • I believe in God, and this lovely song reminds me of our common humanity despite our differences in beliefs. Everyone needs at least a season of love, peace and acceptance. Maybe she named the song as she did to make its tenderness all the more powerful.

  • @affectivity I completely agree, but the reason I'm commenting on here is because when you said 'season of love' I couldn't help but think of RENT. Whether intentional or otherwise, AWESOME!

  • @affectivity where hope is currency and death is not the last unknown? you think there is any room...any need for god in a future like that? a future that's coming up fast? mwah ha ha ha ha

  • Who cares about what the title denotes? It's a beautiful song. That's all that really matters.

  • Just beautiful

  • 'Cantique de Noel' is my favorite. Pavrotti, a children's choir or a lone French soldier standing unarmed in the middle of a battlefield on Christmas Day - it matters not.

    What a wonderful carol.

  • Well, to explain the title: it's a song that has nothing to do with any gods or a god.

The true definition of atheist is "without god"

So... It's a carol that is without god. It spreads good will and positiveness without including religion or religious undertones.

  • It's beautiful.

Anyone can appreciate it. You don't have to be an atheist. Hope the title doesn't put religious people off it too much.

  • this is an amazing song ur voice is so pretty

  • Brilliant singer.

  • I don't understand why its called The athiest christmas carol?

  • @shellcass Wondering the same thing??

  • Because it's not about god or christ or religion. It's about humanity, the grace and companionship humanity can offer each other in the dark times.

  • Ah, I see. So as compared to most Christmas songs that use religion as a theme, this doesn't? Am I right?

  • Yeah. There are quite a lot of Christmas songs that talk about Christmas, without being religious, but this an Athiest Christmas *Carol*, because it talks about grace and loss and being connected to something more than ourselves, being saved by something outside ourselves-- in this case, humanity, other people, love. Honestly, this song makes me tear up, it's that powerful.

Personally though, I still don't exactly see why this song requires, or even at the very least - suggests - the label that it has. I could actually see this as being a christmas carol for absolutely anything - I could see a Christian, Muslim, Hindu, agnostic or atheist as having written it and wouldn't be surprised. It just feels neutral to me.

At best I would say that it's perhaps a humanist song. Not necessarily atheist though.

    It is absolutely lovely though.

  • @Yazzarh Atheism is being neutral.

  • @mediate27

By colloquial definition, no, it is not.

Agnosticism, by colloquial definition, is 'being neutral'.

I did not, however, mean 'neutral' in that sense; I meant it in the sense that this song does not feel as though it has anything at all to do with the TOPIC of religion, which atheism most certainly does, and - depending on your definition, agnosticism may.

  • @Yazzarh Atheism isn't slamming religion like so many people are led to believe, it's simply not following one. This song has nothing to do with religion either, so the title fits.

  • @becka9077

Atheism as a naked ideology isn't; sure. As with any ideology, however, there are certain forms which do - however, that's not the point I'm making here, and I'd prefer to not get into an argument over that.

Nonetheless, I still don't see your point how the title fits this song simply because the song has nothing to do with religion; the very concept of atheism has something to do with religion, so why does the title fit?

Even if I were to approach this from...

  • @becka9077

...your stance, however, I still don't see how the title fits.

The Christmas carol "Jingle Bells" has nothing to do with religion; should it be renamed "Atheist Jingle Bells", or classified as an 'atheist Christmas carol'?

Go further, though - my nail clippers have nothing to do with religion. Are they therefore atheist nail clippers? Or what about an assignment I might write which has nothign to do with religion. An atheist assignment?

    Surely you should...

  • @Yazzarh I also feel that the title is perhaps misleading or a bit out of place, however, an artist or songwriter, as far as I'm aware, has the right to name their works nearly if not literally whatever they desire. So it need to be even remotely related. They could write a song about vegetable soup and name it "happy desert caterpillar", which would be nonsensical, but they (and you and I if we choose to write songs) can do that.

  • @PeacefulAtheist1 I don't think it's misleading at all. It's only so, possibly, because of the public image that atheists have these days. It's a song, maybe more about humanism, but nonetheless, a song about humanity, love and peace without all of the other bells and whistles that others Christmas songs have. In essence, bein beautiful and peaceful without myth is what atheism, humanism and pantheism are really about, in my opinion.

  • @abacabb138 I do agree with you. That's precisely how I interpret it too. However, do to me not truly knowing the lyricists intentions, it could be misleading. Yet again, I do find it to be a beautifully melodic uplifting piece of atheist/humanistic work.

...be able to see that you can't make the sort of claims that you do.

ANYWAY though, I really don't want to get into an argument over this; I had hoped that what I'd said was non-confrontational enough that people reading it wouldn't be so irritated by it that they'd want to start an argument about it, and would instead be able to simply read it, perhaps disagree with it, but nonetheless live and let be.

The song's wonderful regardless, though I disagree with the title.

  • @Yazzarh The title merely classifies the song as being Christmas-related, but not the stereotypical Christian emphasis. It can theoretically speak broadly to religious people, but it shouldn't be confused as being religious in nature. I found this strictly because I searched for "atheist Christmas song" and this song's title helped a great deal.

  • @jesserussell

I see your point, and its a good one - however, it does rely on the existence of our society's association of religion with Christmas. Now whilst this is the case, it does nonetheless rely on background knowledge that not everyone may see as true - for example, I don't think that anyone would disagree with a statement saying that Christmas has become more secular as the years have gone by.

With that in mind, therefore, it would surely be plasuible...

  • @jesserussell

    (cont'd)

...for some people to disagree with your statement that Christmas has a "stereotypical Christian emphasis". I mean, after all - using my example of "Jingle Bells" from before, this is not only a non-religious carol, but a relatively modern one as well - certain not as old as the majority of religious (i.e. Christian) carols.

I don't disagree with you though that this song isn't religious in nature; it isn't, and even as a rleigious person myself, I'm...

  • @jesserussell

    (cont'd)

...fine with that. As I said in my previous posts though, and as I'll say again - I just think that the title is perhaps a little misleading, or if not, seems a little awkward/the words are out of place. To me at least, when I first heard it, I just heard a song, and that was it (to be honest, I didn't even hear the Christmas link initially) - I didn't make any connection with atheism at all. Hence why I thought that a different title would've suited this song better.
