  • im getting mine march 12 so hopefully it goes good ..

  • To anyone about to have a tonsillectomy, don't psych yourself out. It's painful & it does suck, but it's nothing you can't handle. Drink at least a gallon of water a day & pop your pills regularly!

  • after surgery did you get to dress yourself out of the gown or did they help you?

  • is it possible to lose your voice alot too during tonsillectomy?

  • Its been four days since my operation. So far so good, ive read loads of places that im supposed to be in sooo much pain. But luckily im finding it managable. If you are getting this done..my best advice is stay on top of your meds(dont break the cycle)...and drink LOADS of water...goodluck people.xx

  • this was really informatie thank you :)

  • Did the pain meds keep you pain free?

  • Holy shit i am having this Thursday, plus a sinus surgery.

  • @pboisei me too lol, this thursday also, im kinda nervous

  • @blusoldier1234 I am told it is incredibly painful. My doc keeps saying, "i am warning you, don't be mad at me." I am gonna try and sleep through the whole recovery time.

  • I had the same surgery and had a really rough time with it. Check out my channel if you're interested to see my story!

  • Wow ur story sounds like mine ! I have had strep throat over 8 times this year, now I'm having problems swallowing and I can't eat, im talking funny. So I'm finally going with the surgery..but I'm soo scared ! :( this will be my first surgery.. is there any advice you can give me going into this surgery, tips ? Anything that will help my recovery?

    Thanks :)

  • also... sometimes the reason for the reoccurring tonsil problems is because "many" starchy & sugary foods feed bacteria in the throat (i've read). The bacteria eats it and uses it to multiply. Also, various forms of wheat based foods (cereals, pastas, breads) and gluten irritate the tonsils as well if you are allergic to it. :)

That stuff prolongs tonsil problems in "some" people and causes it to reoccur. ;)

    Peace and Love :)

  • i think that if your throat pain derives from Strep Throat, than... you probably shouldn't eat dairy if it is known to make the problem worse, but if it derives from certain food irritants specific to your throat (for example: spices), milk can sooth it, but if from strep (then no) or if milk is a (allergen) to you then no (don't drink the milk) but if it's from spices or other food additives that your throat is responding to, milk may help. Milk helps sooth in some cases. But, no in others.

  • I JUST had mine on Monday. Today is, tecnically, Wednesday and the only pain I feel is when I swallow. I've already lost 5 lbs and THEY ARE GIVING AWAY FRIES (my favorite thing) AT BURGER KING this Friday Dec 16th!!!!! Hat's tourture for me!

Thanks for the video. It really does help.

Another thing: When I do talk, I'm afraid I sound like that crazy guy from BACHELOR PAD (Vienna's boyfriend). I certainly hope that I don't sound like that forever, as result of this operation.

  • I got mine out yeasterday! And hearing you describing the surgery is very different from my experience. I live in Norway, and the surgery for me was not as painful as you describe it, it is just very svollen. And I have the worst taste in my mouth ever! It obviously hurts, but it is not suppose to bleed and hurt that bad! I came home from the hospital today. So I was in the hospital for only one night. But I guess it is different from country to country!

  • my best friend is in hospital with high fever caused by infected tonsills.

  • Im getting mine out in about a week. But i want to know how the narcosis goes. And how long it takes from surgery to when you wake up. And how long it wakes.. Please answer me.. im just scared as fuck! And i dont even are scared because of the pain.. but more of the sleep thingy...

  • This was so helpful!!! Every other video is about people freaking out because of the pain which just freaks me out even more!! Thanks for being the only positive person out there

  • Hey im really happy for you that you had such a good recovery :) I just wanted to ask I get inflamed really sore tonsils almost every month and the doctor told me I have tonsil stones and chronic cryptic tonsils its really causing me a lot of pain I know your not a medical professional but from your experience of the surgery and my description do you think i should get a tonsillectomy?

  • I had mine done in 2001 when I was 4 and it seams to of gone smoothy. I remember waking up with a light in my face and a bunch of surgeons with those shower cap looking things and seeing green southwestern wallpaper along the top of the walls near the ceilings. I actually spent the night in the hospital.

  • can you drink soft drinks

  • @kayrenee1998 i dont blame you its gonna be horribleee for me :(

  • Getting mines out in 2 weeks im scared as heck :(

  • @prettyyash Im getting mine out tomorrow!1 Im not scared as heck, im scared as fuck!

  • omg what does `blew out veins`mean? i am terrified now!!!! not just the surgery but the IV also

  • So it's been almost a year since you had your tonsils removed. Do you find that it has helped prevent getting Strep? Have you been sick less often this year? I am seeing an ENT specialist in a few days because of chronic strep.

  • when you have your them taken out does your voice sound different?

  • @tehQurt my voice definitely sounded different at first but it's back to normal now. I don't know if you've watched any of my other videos but I can totally hear a difference to this video!

  • i had mine out a week ago today,i had tonsilitis 3 times within 5 weeks and in total 6 times this year and with me havin an auto immune disease.im still going through the pain and im very unwell but i know once i get through it its gona be worth it :-) ENT also advised me that i should have mine out, as they were chronically inflammed.u seemed to have been quite lucky, i stayed one night then re admitted wed n was in until saturday.i agree liquid drugs help but i need a humidifier, no sleep :-(

  • Do you sleep better? I'm debating to get mine removed.I have sleep apnea... I hear this procedure will help

  • @Castulo432 I don't have sleep apnea and never did so I can't help with that!

  • @paledreams I'm having my tonsils and adenoids out tomorrow, I am totally freaking out because classes just started and College gives no mercy. I'm really tryna get a guess of maybe how i'll feel, they say you regurgitate alot... is that true?

  • i get my tonsils and adenoids out on friday =/ i'm really nervous!! you're video has definitely helped me feel a little better though!!

  • I'm on day 10 now, this whole experience has pretty much sucked lol but its getting better. Its weird because I could eat things in the beggining and now they burn my throat (applesauce and even water) Everytime I eat I have this sharp stabbing pain, I'm wondering if you or anyone else has experienced this??

  • hi! I am a 16 year old girl, and I'm planning to get my tonsils out sometime in august because it's summer break, and more convenient. I actually don't have an appointment yet, but it's a set in stone idea with my parents haha. i wanted to ask, it worth it for the problems I have? I don't experience strep throat or tonsillitis ever, but I have snoring and sleep apnea problems, as well as sinus problems. I hope it is worth it for the discomfort of recovery...

  • I'm so scared and I have to get mine out

  • I am so scare and I need to take them out. I have strepthroat very often as well and from watching your video it makse sense now why I feel tired all the time. I had tonsilitis where the tonsill covered with puss like three or four time. Plus they are very very sensitive during summer. Simple thing like drinking cold drink or ice cream will get me really sick. So i cannot have the cold thing at all. I get sick so often and I miss scchool a lot. Do you think it is time for me to get it remove?

  • Thanks so much for posting this. I'm having mine out on Friday and freeeaaaaking out. Hearing you describe it made it feel alot more do-able. Not stoked for the pain, but can't wait to have it over and done with. I'm a college student too and have been reading the horror stories too. Glad yours was more positive.

    Thanks again girl!

  • @silversweet007 you're welcome! I was surprised how relatively easy my recovery was (although I was in a lot of pain).

  • Well first thanks for the video. I really have a crazy question, I have a doctors appt. with an ENT Thurs. Only my right tonsil is swollen and like maybe 2 or 3 times a week I'll get that yellowish stuff I think it's called Tonsil Stones. The weird thing is I dont get the fevers & never had strep and it doesn't mess with me. Is this something they should take out? I think I've actually had it like this for a couple years now- strange right, my ear hurts occ. is that a reason also??

  • i just got mine out today. im shocked! it did not even hurt for me. and im 20

  • I have just been referred to an ENT to see if I should get my tonsils out, but have to wait 3 months to see him (even with private insurance) :( Not happy. I sound the same as you - I constantly get tonsilitis; and I have sleep apnea (which I'm seeing a sleep specialist for at the moment) - so hopefully if I do get them out it will help both!

  • Ok so I am supposed to get my tonsils out sometime soon...and I am reallllly nervous about it!! I know its outpatient and all but Im realllly nervous to go under. Also, I heard you cant sleep and eating is basically impossible for over two weeks. Did you ever throw up after you had this done?! I feel like its supposed to be an easy procedure, but it seems like recovery is TERRRIBLE!!! Any good advice?!?!?

  • @23eddie9 I didn't throw up but some people do from the meds - so if you normally do, tell the doctors! sleeping and eating was definitely difficult. you kind of just have to suck it up and realize it's worth it in the long run? it's way worse than people realize but I'm glad I had it done, for sure. good luck!

  • @paledreams Thank you so much for your response!! I think Im getting mine out in maybe 3 months!! YIKES!!!

  • hey girl! im glad you posted this video because im getting my tonsils out on the 25th of this month and im super nervous! i was wondering though, what happens to the scabs that form after the surgery? do they just go away with time or do they fall off? and also would you say the pain in any worse than having tonsillitis or strep?

  • @brebre8908 I didn't notice my scabs at all - I didn't see them (I couldn't open my mouth that wide after surgery!) or feel them or when they "fell off". but I know some people have felt them before. and the pain was definitely worse than having strep. my throat felt so hot and dry and felt like I was swallowing glass - but I haven't had strep since then!! it was worth it but not a fun recovery (I won't lie, ha). the pain meds totally helped.

  • @paledreams ok that is good to know, thanks! im soooo nervous, i've never had any kind of surgery before and i've heard so many horror stories about tonsillectomys, but i know a couple weeks of pain will be worth a lifetime of being sore-throat free! haha

  • i had mine out when i was 12yrs old (18yrs ago) for three years before then i had constant throat infections to the point it was an emergency operation.

Mind after the operation i caught an infection which has since lead to me being disabled because I now have cfs, ibs, pcos, meniers disease ect the doctors don't know if i had the infection before i had them out or i caught an infection after.

mind i was also on a months bedrest after,

I'm glad your recovering well though.

  • After your operation are you confortable to do blowjobs with your boyfriend? I heard this will improve your voice back to normal. Is this true? What’s your opinion?

  • After your operation are you confortable to do blowjobs with your boyfriend?

  • And I remember silently crying (actual crying was too painful) for a good 30 minutes staring at the Tylenol 3 (so jealous you had Percocet!!!) in my hand knowing how bad it was going to hurt to swallow. I got so dehydrated and weak! Awful!

I'm glad you got it done and are past the worst of it. I hope you have a strep-free future!

  • I had mine out when I was 23 and it was the worst week of my life! For the same reason as you - I had so much strep it just made sense. The good news is that I've never had strep since and I'm now 39. :) My tonsils were so infected and nasty (worst the surgeon had seen) that he had to take a scoop out of my throat NEXT to one of the tonsils! It was so painful. I had to go to the ER after a few days for a shot to help me stop throwing up because that was (as you can imagine) painful as hell.

  • did ur voice change?

  • @engeljakob it definitely did after the surgery but I'm fairly certain it's back to normal now.

  • That sounds insanely painful and unpleasant. I've had many throat problems in the past, I got so ill (on more than one occasion) that I had to stay in the hospital for an oxygen mask because I couldn't breathe. It's the worst. Glad you've recovered smoothly!

  • @sumkindawunnerful it certainly was NOT fun! but I think it really will be worth it in the long run. hope your throat problems fix themselves!!
