Regarding #6 - If you can't "sock away some money" atleast get yourself current on all your bills. Starting over is a lot easier if bill collectors aren't calling you 24/7. Not everyone can afford a nest egg, but don't underestimate being current on your bills either. Most creditors will work with you if you explain your situation. In other words, if you wait for everything to be perfect before you leave, you never will.... because starting over isn't risk-free no matter what.
