@nightowlpete Hi Pete are you the same pete that used to meet me and my mates in Aspull before going to wigan casino in the 70s and 80s. Just got back on the northern scene after too many years away
I've only just discovered that I can find all my fave northern tracks on you tube and today I found my all time favourite and this is it! I'm on my third repeat and it's bringing tears to my eyes because unfortunately I never managed to get it in my collection all those years ago. Today I am a happy girl (if only).
According to Arthur Lee Johnson, one of the Superlatives, this is not their song. He said he doesn't know who these people are and is not them or their song.
i used to take this record to jets disco in plymouth we had to bribe the dj with free beer to play our northern stuff so many years ago but listening to it now its seems only like yesterday !! simply sublime
Absolutely brilliant.....vocals and backing track...danced my SOUL off to this at many niters but in particular it takes me back to the Catacombs dayz...remember Eggy and jed Stone literally dancin up the walls to this ....!!!! Best days of my life... wow!!!!!!! Thanx
Catacombs mid-1973. Packed to the rafters, sweat and condensation in equal measure, and this heady dose of pure Northern Soul energy zapping around the corridors... The Superlatives had 'em virtually running up the walls back then! LOL
no no no mate it is an honour to hear your late fathers voice.i have listened to so many sounds over the years and this one is up there with the very best,if not the best.
thank you george this sound will be with me till i join you and hear it live.
Thank you to everyone who commented on this. George Jones (Pictured far right) is my father. He passed away October 10, 2007. Its truly an honor that people still enjoy my father music thank you
I am sure it's an honour to speak to either the soul singers on these records, their relatives or anyone that knew them. I met Hoagy Lands once, when I told him how much everyone loved his music he just looked stunned and shook his head in disbelief.
@teztiment Comments like yours with such a personal connection are the best on YT. A lot of people I know think that this is a very special record - great.
this is such a honor...the man in the far right corner is truly missed ...Willam jones....he was my brother in law and he loved to sing ....a very out going beautiful person ...he always had your back...
Jim, When this broke my mate was sent a copy by froggy from the states and we took it too the mecca to sell, had it nicked by a scumbag, found him nicked it back without him knowing, and left the mecca at 2am got back into the car laughing with joy that we got it back, I sat on it and broke it!!!!!!
It still played but you could hear the click all the way through the record and hes never forgiven me to this day.
Assuming you are referring to the preceding comment, the 'pretentious Levine type' in question (ie. Paul Kyser, who posted the comment) is the writer and producer of the record.
The picture posted above was not the Superlatives who sung I Still Love You. This Superlatives came from Jersey City N.J. and the song was written by Paul Kyser. The same writer and producer Of Body and Soul by the Soul Generation, My Ebony Princess by Jimmy Briscoe and the Little Beavers. I produced many more hits.
dam good memories, got to get myself to an allnighter again 2o odd yrs is too long, this tune has got me in the mood again, don't know if my heart can take the pace, but what the heck, ill die happy!! lol
Jim, where are the nighters that you do? im on track for the morecambe nighter end of may bank holiday, but if i can find more im on the road again ha ha
Takes me back to my late teens too. The "real" back in the day.(Just funnin') This tune had been in dormancy in my soul since the 60's. You tube is accumulating a vast history of our life. Brother Heavy said it.
wow just started using the net recently.i have heard my favourite sound again after thirty odd years,it was in my record collection.but they were lost in a house move twenty years ago.casino memories come flooding back.thank you superlatives and george jones, what a talent RIP.

RIP.
Did he know ?
How his contribution to soul music was so sought after by the mainly 'white working-class youth of the North of England' ...
Ten or so years after it was first released.
One of the things I always wonder about. How many of the artists find out where their discs end up - in England.
