  • Cactus in my heart.

  • Up until just now I was only aware of "the other Jim McCarty"-the British drummer who played with Clapton, Beck and Page in The Yardbirds. But now I want to hear more of Jim McCarty the guitarist (and Werner, too) and Cactus in general! I guess I was just too busy listening to Led Zeppelin and Frank Zappa to have discovered them earlier.

  • fine stuff, great band! i love CACTUS!!!!!!!!!1

  • was jodie blair in the origanal band cactus 1971

  • killer band !!! JIMMY KUNES is a blues / rock animal !!!! thats a powerfull voice...

  • What a waste, someone posted CACTUS first live stuff for 30 years under "CUCTUS" instead and hardly anyone has found it ... :-( Search more in youtube typing this "Cuctus Live @ B.B. King - "One Way or Another" (Part 3) " ...Live from New York City June 3, 2006 Jim McCarty (Guitar instead of Werner Fritzschings here), Carmine Appice (Drum), Tim Bogert (Bass), Jimmy Kunes (Vocal) and Randy Pratt (Blues Harp) ....The place was packed out

  • I was at this, good show, I love that BB Kings books these great bands. Unfortunately it always has that polite dinner theatre feel.

I was at the LI shows in '71 when Cactus was typically 3rd on the bill. The arenas were cavernous, it was very very loud, the Bogert-Appice rhythm section was a brutal machine, and everyone was covered in sweat.

Then my mommy would come pick me up!

Cactus does not work in a place where cherry martinis are being delivered to table 443-B.

  • Werner Fritzsching plays on the Hall & Oates album X-Static

  • When I bought 'Ot 'n' Sweaty back in '72 I was blown away by Werner's tone and phrasing. Larry Coryell said a great soloist never looks to completes a phrase - he looks inside each phrase for a jumping-off point to a new phrase. That's what I heard in Werner's solos on "Bedroom Mazurka" and "Bad Stuff". Been looking for more of his work ever since. Thanks to the OP for putting this stuff up!

  • Great band! True musicians!

  • What happened to McCarty?

  • sorry, Werner's good, but no Jimmy. and Jimmy Kunes as Rusty? are you kidding me?

Carmine and Tim must be getting desperate

  • great vocals and drums

  • fuck you song

  • I'm from 1957, and Werner is the same age. For hot and Sweaty, I was bealrly learning my first chords on a guitar. Werner was 15 years old and made this awsome live with probably one of the best band ever in America.

I was in Paris a couple month ago for their venue, Werner is still the same, same look and same smoking player.

I love Jim too but Werner is one o a kind !

Too bad that Tim was sick and replaced with another bass player. Carmine is still an awsome clown and entertainer/drummer.

  • I was in high school when ot n' sweaty came out. I thought Werner played an awsome guitar then. I just found out that he was about 15/16 in those days. I was gobsmacked.

  • He was young, but not quite that young. Werner and I graduated from high school together in '68 in Rochester, NY, so I'm pretty sure that we were both born in '51 because we graduated in the same class in '69. When we were still teenagers, he introduced me to Clapton's earliest recordings with the Bluesbreakers as he played along, note for note, with Clapton's solos. The tone he was getting back then was already there - what a gifted but barely known player! Cool that you were able to meet him!

  • I'm glad to know. Thanks. He was a favorite of mine back in the day... I'm glad he's still at it.

  • where are these guys playing: the old age pension down the road - or something? sure as hell looks like it!

get up offa your fat old, middle-age asses, people!

  • Oh Great! What a sound!! I saw them the last week near Paris in France. What a show!! But without Tim. There's a video of me on You Tube.

  • Whoa that ain't Jim :O!

Yeah he does look like Jimmy. :)

  • this is Werner Fritzschings playing guitar, he was the guitarist ,when mcCarty left the band, of the album hot n sweaty !!!

  • Yea baby! This is like going back to the Filmore East. One of my all-time favorite rock guitar songs is Cactus' Parchman Farm. McCarty really smokes on it. Thanks for the post.

  • this rocks i happen to be a rock and roll child myself along with my sweet daughter

  • jim mcCarty is one of the best after all he was a detroit wheel

  • one way or another

  • I saw Cactus last night at BB Kings in NYC, and I tell ya straight up that Werner Fritzschings can bring game.

  • in my opinion werner frizschings is the most underrated guitar player ot'n'sweaty is my favorite live album along with johnny winter live and;for me its a blessing to see that werner is still smoking after all these years

  • @martimax34 i noe him!!!!! i am 14 and i have a band called refractory. My guitarist is his son! i see Mr. Frizsching every weekend! i nvr knew how good he was!

  • I see he skipped the solo part where McCarty usually smokes. It ain't Cactus without Jim McCarty. That would be like Led Zep without Page.

  • @yourtubesteak

    I agree.

  • Cactus website says Werner Fritschings is filling in for McCarty on some dates due to career conflicts. Maybe Jim's not gone for good- let's hope.

In all fairness, they sound great with Werner too. And he bears a strinking resemblance to Jimmy Page, which is kind of cool!

  • McCarty already bailed...OUCH!!!! (the man is easily one of the greats!)
