  • i feel like crying..no..i cry everytime it gets to "now i understand, what u try to say to me,HOW U SUFFERED FOR YOU SANITY"...this is so emotional...i can feel him..hw vincent trying to fight with all the emotions in him.hw he tried to make people why he acted like that.he cudn't express thru words but his paintings definitely paint his heart..his hurting soul, his sadness.his hope, his fights, his feeling..this is too deep.VINCENT VAN GOGH..YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL! RIP

  • One of the best songs ever :-)

    thank you for uploading

  • if not the greatest song ever written, one of them, certainly.

  • Possibly the greatest song ever written ?

  • @fireandrain1 i guess. i listened to it first when i was 14. for a long time i thought it was a love song.. and i liked it a lot. during college i came to know abount van gough.. and that made this more special.. i went through a lot of phases.. from floyd to knopfler to heavy metal.. but even now i am not burnt out on this one..

    sheer poetry and hypnotic guitar.

  • The paint brush is the guitar, the paint is the golden voice, the canvass is our ears.

    What a masterpiece!

  • if this is a martin d35 s acoustic guitar it is by todays standards a very hard animal to find, and an exceptionaly fine sounding martin guitar.

  • is he playing a martin d35 s the piano of guitars?

  • Beautiful!!

  • This just makes me cry.

  • just beautiful.....(sigh)

  • R.I.P Uncle Vinny. Love you

  • "They would not listen. They're not listening still. Perhaps they never will."

This is the story of van Gogh: unrecognised as an artist until after his death.

"And when no hope was left in sight on that STARRY STARRY NIGHT. You took your life as lovers often do. But I could have told you Vincent, this world was never meant for one as beautiful as you."

  • bravo bravo

  • What a great song from one artist about anohter.

  • Maybe the most beautifull poetry in music i ever heard.

    A magnificent and immortal composition

  • @giampietrocerolini Sei Italiano? Una bella canzone. Beautiful voice too.

  • It's performances like this that many years ago made want to learn how to play the guitar and sing.

  • The name of the song is Vincent - Vincent Van Gogh. "Starry Starry Night is the name of one of his paintings.

  • Vincent is such a beautiful song.

  • Listen to his lyrics, his voice, his melody. This man was a musical genius.

  • Beautiful song and goes amazingly well with a Simpsons episode lol

  • The song is called "Vincent"

  • i love don

  • Pure Quality.

  • Freddie Starr is a humorless turd and anyone watching suffers painfully. Nothing the guy does is even remotely funny. "Vincent Van Guff lives in a van" (crickets chirping) That guy would bore drying paint...

  • It never fails no matter what songs you look at on Youtube...some jackass always has to bring up that punk ass no talent Bieber!!

  • my friends think I'm weird bcuz I listen yo these songs... I'm like well why would i listen to justin bieber?

  • This is one of those songs that just make you say: Wow!

  • Perfection. Brings tears of joy.

  • if i giving a chance to chose what song i wish write, i will proudly choose this song...i love this song very much..

  • Loves this song, vincent van gough will always be remembered thanks to this song : )

  • @TheRealMichaelWayson haha and the fact he had shed loads of awesome paintingsXD but your right this song is awesome and alot of people will remember it for a gd while. thumbs up comment :D

  • It was more than guitar and voice. It was poetry. Perhaps the entire song is a trinity towards giving Vincent Van Gogh the rightful praise he deserves.

  • The more I listen to his music (old and new), the more I realize how much of a genius he is. He writes about pretty much anything and could make everything sound so good. God, I love this man so much! ;)

  • @SugarCrisp11 Thanks Mom!...Don McLean

  • This is one of the great American songs....Don McLean may have had only a couple of well known songs, but they were awesome. This song is so soulful and lyrically beautiful.

  • na al die jaren blijft het mooi en aangrijpend

  • Such a beautiful voice..

  • I'm crying like a motherfucker...

  • The title is "VINCENT"

  • No one mentions Vincent Van Gogh in all the adulation,i wonder if you realise this is who the song is about ?

  • This is such a touching song. You can feel the emotion in every chord. It's lyrically brilliant, in a melancholy but beautiful way.

"empty chairs' has the same kind of caliber. ♥♥

  • I agree this song is a classic and is timeless. Odd though, how someone could write songs like this, American Pie, Castles in the Air and one or two others, but then that's it. He was only allowed certain amount of legend making. I understand he is extremely happy about his good luck (and the money that went with it) but you know he has to be sick as a dog of singing these same 5 or 6 songs over and over for 40 years.

  • @Bombeni Truly, Don McLean is genius material. 5 or 6 of his classics in 40 years is better than 10 or 11 thrash songs by thrash artists that become 'hits' every year - as it is happening these days !

    Neville

  • Absolutely magnificent! So glad I came upon this! The creativity of the young mind can never be underestimated!

  • nice song..

  • my favorite...

  • Genius, beautifully articulated. Would have to be one of my all time favourites - that and Castles in the Air. My mother had some great taste whilst I was growing up - which as you know some how becomes apart of yourself as you grow older.

  • Such a lovely song. But annoyingly, the key he sings is either too high or too low for me to sing along to. Damn.

  • I studiied Vincent at one time. Traveled in his footsteps in France. Loved the Musee D'Orsey in Paris. I stood in front of this picture for a long time. You have to see his work in person because no print comes close. The depth of color is amazing. Vincent was imbalanced but he was also very spoiled by his brother, who supported him almost all his life on the pay of a gallery attendent in Paris. Lovely song.

  • just a great song

  • My Dad grew up listening to Motown hits, then he bought a bar in a country music area. I remember the few 8 tracks that he owned . This was on one of them.... a far cry from the country music he was forced to listen to, to keep the customers happy.

  • This is my kind of music, just a fantastic songwriter singing a fantastic song. No big flashy light shows or backup dancers, just pure talent and emotion on display. Simon and Garfunkel do it the same way. You really do have to wonder if we'll ever see performers of their calibre again, because all the crap that keeps getting pumped out these days makes me very doubtful.

  • @halfbackflank so very well put

  • The most beautiful song ever

  • Whar TV show is this from? I do not recognize this at all....????? And is ther more from this concert?

  • what a classic, my dad taught me this on the guitar when I was 7!

  • @acousticoriginals And he named his guitar Rosebud!!

  • fantastic! sends a shiver up my spine every time! this is songwriting!

  • its called vincent not starry starry night lol

  • @redfenderguy It's actually called both

  • Amazing song. Amazing performance. Loved every second.

  • Eine schöne Melodie, sympatische Sänger, angenehme Stimme!

  • @ilyenz Yep! You said it all man!!

  • @ilyenz bestimmt

  • Bestimmt

  • LOL...Vincent it is!!!

  • Its called VINCENT NOT STARRY STARRY NIGHT

  • Penny266, let's not get caught up in semantics and forget the beauty of the song.

  • true story

  • OMG. I so love this song since it was first released in the 1970s by this awesome singer / poet. Vincent Van Gogh is THE artist I ever loved and still do. His life and his paintings just pulls me in and will not let me go. Beariful, sad, awesome and haunting.

  • @gibbdreamer You are so right! I hope you visited the recent exhibition at the royal academy it was breathtaking!!!!! I reflect on Vincents art most days.with the same feelings as you. Oh the song is great as well, but i think Vincent would have hated it.

  • I'm remembering his guitar...I had a Martin D-28S back then too [not that I deserved it] The song and guitar are classics...and I wish I had kept it!!!!

  • 1972 remembering a lost love

  • Sucha great song, I love this live version.

I like Julio Iglesias' version as well

  • Julio did it well, but this is the original by the writer. Not a "version."

  • I said I love this live version..meaning, you know, that it is live as opposed to recorded...I am well aware who wrote this song.

  • A nice song

  • what a song, what a voice... beautiful!

  • Beautiful and timeless song.. Really pulls the heart strings.. love it

  • Most beautiful part is the ending from 4:16

  • This song is about the famous artist, Vincent Van Gogh, who was deeply depressed most of his life. He committed suicide at age 31. Such a nicely done song about an ugly event. Don McLean is a real talent ! ! !

  • hoffa437

    Well said, Brother! Hear! Hear!

  • much slower than his earlier version...

  • What a beautiful song and arrangement.

Thank you so much for sharing this with me ramey58. Wow and double WOW !!

  • As requested by Ellen M of Ontario

  • Just love the way he holds that last note.

    A man and his music.......

    As someone said earlier.

'It don't come any better than this'.

  • wow

  • Beautiful and sung from the heart. Nadine

  • The title is "Vincent"

  • Don...the mind of a Poet....with the heart of a lover........

  • What I think is incredible - is to write a song like this, would need a lot of introspection, which usually comes from an older person. Don, I think, was not even 21 when he wrote this. It stands as a monument to the creativity of the younger mind. Albert Einstein was only 25 years old when he wrote 'Special Relativity'

  • back when the intellect wasnt controlled by the internet

  • Well said my friend.

  • @BRAIDERMAN all matamathicans peak in there 20s very few later on can its your brain cells

  • Comment removed

  • @BRAIDERMAN I wish I had written your post! Nice observation bud.

  • @BRAIDERMAN well ppl that time didnt have stuff like fb, so they can focus on what they want to do. but now, we waste so much time on unimportant things. its different, and things have changed.

  • A Guitar, A singer, NO gimmicks, just pure emotion, It don't get any better than this!!!!

  • simple but beautifull

  • How is this simple? One of the greatest songs of our time, and a very original guitar part.

  • 1word: wow

  • Actually, I think Don is a much better artist than Vincent Van Gogh was and I realize Don would not agree with me but I must say what I think on that matter. Incredible song by an incredible artisan!!!!

  • Vincent Van Gogh was not a songwritter / poet. He was and is The artist / painter. Don is a most gifted man writting and singiing about another gifted man. Two differant genes. , TWO GIFTED MEN.

  • Never said that Van Gogh was a singer or songwriter but I did say that Don was an artist because songwriting is a form of art!!! There are many forms of art you see...

  • I do agree that songwriting is a form of art and Don is most gifted in his form of art. Yess, I do know there are many forms of art but only a few are real MASTERS of that art. Don and Vincent are MASTERS of thier chosen art form.

  • Yeah....I have never been influenced by mass or popular opinion and that is why I think Don McClean was a much better artisan than Van Gogh was.

  • Just like Vincent's paintings, this song evokes emotions!!!

  • vincent van gogh...he painted the starry starry night...

  • thats why the song is call vincent

    LOL

  • it was wonderfull musicccc

  • dis song reminds of her i dnt know why

  • amazing song, great playing too

  • I think "Ol' Vince" would have been pleased with this.

  • he would make Don his best friend. 2 great artists.

  • Absolutely fantastic song.Don Mclean is a singer in my heart.I like your voice a lot.

  • Fantastische versie

  • Great Song!!

  • DUDE IM 13 I BLOODY LOVE THIS SONG

  • Perfect Timeless, so lovely.

  • his 2nd best song i luv, awesome song, awesome singer/songwriter, what memories

  • OK now for the last 2 days I have listened and I have heard this song for the very first time. I never really listened. I love this version

  • You didn't listen because you did not know how?

  • Thanks for forwarding me this song i really love listening to this kind of music thanks my friend!

  • Don Mclean at his best......a true american legend......his music has moved me since i was a child.....

  • Don Mclean has a very soft voice that makes the night so nostalgic..really great artist!

  • This I really like!

  • Nice Song & Singer

  • The name of the song is "Vincent," tho' most know it as "Starry Starry Night" - the opening lyrics. "They would not listen, they did not know how...perhaps they'll listen now..." I DID know about whom this song was referring...and it was so cleverly written. I don't know if anybody but Don McLean would sound as lovely singing it. Thanks for the post Kitkatkang! Warmly, Red

  • The song is dedicated to Vincent Van Gogh,he was a painter ..I love his painting as i love Don Mclean voice.

  • Hence, why the actual name of the song was "Vincent." "Starry Night" refers to a painting by Van Gogh. Thanks...Red

  • He also refered it to the state of being of Vincent while he created the starry night painting.More over the sad story of his life..:(

  • Full name is Vincent Van Gogh

  • I had no idea who that song was about. Now it makes perfect since.

  • Yes, a very enigmatic song until you understand it's about Van Gogh. One of his most famous paintings was, "Starry Night." Mark
