  • Here is the solution and it is quite simple (not complex).

Churches need to start using the Bible as their one and only source of teaching and stop using mans ideas and thoughts. I used to go to your dads church and he never encouraged the people to read their bibles. But he never forgot to tell people to give him money so they could build more huge multi-million dollar buildings in which they had to tear down many houses in the area to put build up. Christ first buildings last. Problem solved

  • semantics? it's your premises that are flawed.

  • Hey Kinnaman, if ur reading this, I heard one of your presentations on this topic and it was clear that you are precisely the sort of smug gasbag that makes people dislike Christians. You had an condescending tone whenever you spoke of non-Christians or "people in the homosexual lifestyle" (LOL!).

And stop praising yourself for belatedly realizing that you should have treated that stripper with respect. Most non-Christian 10 year olds would have known how to behave decently. Why didn't you?

  • I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS BOOK! I think it goes hand in hand, too, with "Why We ARe Not Emergent"... as the End Times draw near, the church WILL change, and I think these two books are a great introduction as to what we might expect it to look like and why....

  • If you feel you can help someone with one of the books in the collection behind you, give them that book.

  • Everyone, not just Christians, should read this book.

  • Yes, agree!

  • OUARGH! That's y last nae!!

  • Great commentary,I have not read the book but based on the authors commentary here, I do not believe he is saying the gospel or scripture should be changed in any way to make it relevant there is no question the word of God is relevant forever. However to steal a cliche "people don't care how much you know until they know how much you care".

This requires "faith" as a verb, or action word.Too many Christians today like to be fed and sit back. Its past time to engage society...Time to act/do/go

  • I have not read this book, but if it's advocating being "culturally relevant" to a world of sinners, then I don't want to. We don't need a more clever way to describe the Gospel—we need to get it right and tell people about it!

God came to earth as a man—Jesus—to die in our place so that we don't have to! His righteous life is imputed to the wholly unrighteous lives of those who believe he is their LORD and savior, and as a display of this belief do good works and spread this good news!

  • Hi

I'am on chapter nine of the book and it's fantastic reading. Anyone who is concerned with the future of the church should read it.

  • Dave,

I understand completely what your saying...But, if you think things are bad now, their going to get 1000X worse. This is all end-time prophecy being fullfilled (Matthew 24). Our message to the world is complete foolishness (1 Corinthians 1:17-18) and a scandel to unbeliever's. We not supposed to "win" their approval, but rather give a clear gospel presentation and allow God to work the miracle of salvation. (John 16:8, Romans 1:16)

We will be hated (2 Tim 3:12) Rejected (Luke 10:16)

  • The scripture is to be interpreted subjectively. Personally, I understand where this guy is coming from. The moral principals of Christianity are fine by my standards, and irrational at worst, but still acceptable in some contexts. It is tough to have an organization as huge as Christianity without a little corruption and confusion, but the religion as a whole shouldn't be judged by those wild hairs.

  • so, i am probably way out of line on this, but i feel a distinction is necessary here on how we approach the scriptures. maybe it's not even worth the discussion, but i don't know that i vibe with the feeling that it can be interpreted subjectively. many of these letters were written by one author to one person or group of people to mean one thing. not a lot of wiggle room there. how we apply these truths to our lives might be more subjective, but the truths themselves are not. maybe. idk.

  • of course the Scriptures should be viewed subjectively. When you have faith, you read the text as a person with faith, which is the whole point of reading the Scriptures. They were written to people who had faith and so, therefore, you want to read it with your beliefs affecting the text.

  • I really loved Barna's new book PAGAN CHRISTIANITY. the spoof video for it on here is hilarious too.

  • beautiful comcept. one must love others to understand god...folllow that, then we can produce a haven. in my relegion, sikh, the first lesson is compassion.. in my eyes, no one should bother to convert. just search inside yourself. THE LOST GOSPEL OF JESUS. search for this. google it.. the kingdom of god is inside you.

  • To be blunt, the problem began back in 325 AD when the Roman Emperor Constantine credited Jesus with his military victory and subsequently made Christianity the state religion.

    The Empire hijacked Jesus.

    Strange bedfellows.

  • Context, context, context! Instead of describing the Church as a fort, let's understand it as a hospital. The Church exists not to protect the righteous, but to heal the sick.

  • @MeisterDude Well if we are going to put everything into context, context, context, then the doctors of the hospital should not be treating sick smokers when they themselves go out for a smoke break after a hard shift of "healing the sick". It's one thing to have faith that you know can never be changed and you never doubt it's power, but you do doubt it's power when the views of your faith have to be made into the laws i am forced to follow, regardless, then your faith is weak. at best.

  • how about just live and befriend people with no agenda, just simply because their human beings just like us who need to be loved just like us.

  • What does the bible say about these issues? Does it ask the church to conform to non-Christians, or does it say to conform Christians. These ideas are very unbiblical, Christ said he is an offense, which means that it will offend people.

  • @ReyMatthew He was offensive to the religious elite not the lost.

  • the uncomfortable reality is the disorganization of christianity. look at gods creation of the intricate and beautiful designs of human beings and the universe. do you see this in christianity or even the bible?

  • yes, i mean most Christians come up with the misconception that we are nothing more than sinners...

but the Bible states the human race is beautiful.... and higher than that of animals....
