@Oxidized181 I'd go easy for a first time trip. No more than 200-300mg of DXM HBr, and you need a trip sitter for a first time experience. The effects last around 6-8 hours, but there is a longer period afterwords where you will feel a strange "afterglow" effect and will still have dilated pupils

This procedure is kind of crude, but a good demonstration of acid base extractions, and it's legal. You really should be handling sodium hydroxide in a kitchen at least. Getting NaOH on a carpet would VERY BAD. Also i don't recommend taking DXM in such quantities ;).

But, is there any way to do this extraction with tablet form? I have some Mucinex DM that I'd like to convert to a salt or other concentrated mixture, I wonder whether this procedure will work as well.

@HoboJIm117 You should be able to do the extraction as long as the active ingredient is dextromethorphan HBr (not polystirex). Just dissolve the tablets in water. There may be some insoluble powder on the bottom but that should be fine as the lighter fluid is the phase on top during the liquid-liquid extraction. You might actually get a purer product than if you used syrup.

@yootubezero this is a funny story. me and my friends got 8 bottles of Cough Syrup from the Dollar store, which is approximently 2400mg of DXM we tryed to do what you did, but completly different. we used ammonia as our seperator to seperate the DXM. so we then poured all the cough syrup in a 2 liter bottle and poured the ammount of Ammonia needed. we all saw a chemical reaction at the top. it wasnt that dangerous. we tryed to extract it and we thought we were loosing dxm to.

@yootubezero so we then just said "screw it" and said "we dont want ammonia by mistake" so we just got mad as hell. we did get lemon juice. but we thought the dxm was disappearing. can you pls help me out with the situation. i just need to know if you can actually use ammonia instead of lighter fluid, and having to wait 24 hours.

@deakon452876 Ammonia is a base like NaOH; however, it shouldn't form two phases with water (at least not in the 4-5% solutions it is commonly sold as) so it cannot be used as a separator. The reaction you saw is probably the DXM converting from salt to base and precipitating out of the solution (did it look cloudy?). If the cloudiness disappears then the solution is not basic enough or it all settled to the bottom.

I am showing my face so I cannot do anything illegal on this channel. However, according to literature I have read, there are only two main differences between the two processes. First, a precise amount of NaOH must be added (so it does not degrade the dmt) and it must sit overnight to permeate the root bark completely.

Secondly, the extraction using lighter fluid must be done in a similar method to my caffeine video. The basic solution and lighter fluid must be heated to about 60 C. Then, the decanted lighter fluid should be put in a freezer, where the extracted alkaloids (dmt) will precipitate out.

Yeah, delsym contains DXM polystirex, which has the DXM attached to a polymer resin, which is likely suspended in the solution rather than dissolved; which is why your method should work (never tried it). DXM hydrobromide (DXM HBr), the normal type, is actually dissolved in the cough syrup. Another difference between the two is that Delsym is time release so it lasts about 12 hours compared to 8 hours for the HBr version.

If you want to convert the polystirex form to a salt form (like HBr), you would probably just need to add an acid (lemon juice) to the extract and let it sit for a while.  I'm basing this guess on the fact that your stomach is acidic, which means acid would be required to release the DXM during the time release. However, I would check other sources to verify the theory and to make sure lemon juice would be acidic enough to do this.

get a ravor or paint scrapper or anything sharp with a flat bottom and scrap all ur dxm off the plate. then mix in drink or just eat it straight. trust me its gets u good cuz delsum is like the most potent cough syrup that over the counter. also this information i am providing is for experienced users because u have to know ur dxm dosages before u can even strat tripping at first its easy to take to little and its easy to take to much because the lack of knowledge plus delsum u will only need

get a thin line of water right above the dxm gunk. then u get a tiny spoon and get the gunk out and at the same time straining the water then put the dxm gunk on a plate and when u collect it all then spread it out on the plate so the dxm can dry faster and if u do it this way with a blow dryer it should only take 15 to 20 minutes depending on how good u spread it out on the plate u want it to be thin spreads anything thick or globby will cost u more time so think thin. then when ur done doing

i always was told there was more ingredients to use and more steps to take to extract it from robitussin and other related cheap cough syrups but i know delsum you only need how ever much u need in cough syrup then u put the cough syrup in a 2 liter then fill to 3/4 of 2 liters with water. then shake real well and let sit for about 4 hour then u will see the gunk at the bottom wich ur gonna get a knife and cut the 2 liter in 2 and making sure its 3 inches from the gunk then slow drain until u
