@SunsetSupermanRMB --- If you read the lyrics......it appears Dave wrote this song as a heartfelt love letter to his Van Halen bandmates and the good memories he had with them
This song brings back great memories. Sitting in my friends car out side the video game arcade smoking weed before going in to try to beat "Bad Dudes", "Ikari Warriors" and "Castlevania"!
@SuperWildbill62 Maybe but the van Halen brothers are cockbags. I doubt roth missed playing with them. he probably missed the money. From what I've heard no one likes the VH brothers in the biz. I saw them many, many times over the past 26 years most recently within the past year. They were fucking terrible! Hard to believe Eddie was ever one of the greatest guitar players. He couldn't even remember the songs and wolfgang should still be taking music lessons
@Hammerhead786 If you really don't think Edward Van Halen is the best guitarist to ever play on this planet you might as well listen to Bruce Springsteen!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@thesiciliannyc You are either 13 years old or you have not seen them in concert the past few years. the guy is FUBAR.... Don't believe me Google some recent concert footage...
@Hammerhead786 I saw your channel, you're GAY! Bruce Springsteen sold more than 65 million albums in the USA & more than 120 million worldwide. He has earned numerous awards for his work, including 20 Grammy Awards, 2 Golden Globes and an Academy Award. He is widely regarded by many as one of the most influential songwriters of the 20th century, and in 2004, Rolling Stone ranked him as the 23rd greatest artist of all time in its 100 Greatest Artists of All Time list. Yeah he sucks... COCKBAG
This is not getting the air play it should, followed Van Halen and David from 1979 or so this guy has always been an impecable front man, and performer. Can't wait to see them again if you know what I mean!
@ 10inchcrusher..lol vain probably quit cause it seems like this song is about him missing his van halen days? Dave is the greatest front man ever for van halen!!!
@1288dallas Oh my god you have ruined my day. No I mispeled it becaus I'm note a Sammy Heaaggger fan but I'm a loser so I've learned to live with all the flaws
I think of the many friends and relatives in my life and how too many have moved on with in their life~~as well as those that watching over us through the veil between the living and the hereafter~~~I often think fondly of those memories and our all our times together with family & friends~~~~Those were Damn Good Times!
Love this song. I'm a little confused by the fact that I can't find the song "Skyscraper", I can find every song on the album, except the actual title song of the album. I know there are some live versions, but that's not what I want to hear. Maybe someone could upload the song 4 me? I Love You Tube!!!
@10INCHCRUSHER Yeah - this has Steve all over it and not much Dave. You can almost hear his impatience with Dave in his guitar work. Steve was always going to have to run his own show. But God love Dave - easily one of the best frontmen of all time.
This song reminds me of my mom Betty Gonzales she passed away in October the last time I saw her we danced ( oxygen tank on her back and all) got her a couple Martinis it was a great day-when I was growing up she let my band Jam in the garage was thinking about her today RIP MOM!
David Lee Roth is much more better singer (and sexy indeed) than Frank Sinatra and Steve Vai is much more better guitarrist than those beatles together.

We all know David & the Brothers split over "creative differences"... But when you hear this & "Coconut Grove", and consider where the Brothers went with Hagar (Wailing on every hit they had with him), you can't help wonder what those "differences" really were. I mean: David had his share of hits during that time on which he wailed... Are they really [considerably or notably] that-far-different than what "Van Hagar" did at the time? Where's the truth here, people?
Enjoyed his biography some years ago, wouldnt we all love to drive so hard to attain our dreams + not let them pass us by, certainly an iconic Rock Star by any comparisons, For a period of time a member of the best rock band in the land, Cheers David!
@sweetitis Have to agree with you, saw Van Halen 4 times with Dave back in the early 80s been following ever since. This is real music as was a lot of stuff in the 60's, 70s' and 80's.
went Van Halen concerts...'78,'79,80'81.....GOOD GOD we were lucky to be there in those times...IT WAS SO GREAT
The power and passion these guys put out LIVE...todays crowd of youth doesnt know the vibe you left with!!!
Im 51 now...hard to believe, but listening to my Van Halen CDs takes me back to the days of my youth and the great times and menmories with our friends and family...this song is so relevant... they were DAMN GOOD TIMES!!!!

I can feel the Serotonin surge through my body each time I hear this song. It chills me out and gives me a positive vibe. I love it, love it, love it. Diamond Dave is still the man!!
@Pat9201 I don't think "poppy" actually equals "bad". Some of classic Van Halen's greatest songs had very "poppy" elements to them. I think the point is that haters accuse Van Hagar of being super pop oriented, but solo DLR was every bit as poppy at times. Doesn't mean it's bad.
@mcquestion i think there were plenty of van hagar songs that were not poppy but the pop songs got SO much more air time than the rest of theirs or any of the solo roth stuff hides that some.songs like "AFU (naturally wired)" "judgement day" and others rocked but really never seen air time.i think alot of that dislike is because van hagar just simply out did solo roth.
@Pat9201 I totally agree with most of your comments. I don't know what you mean by Van Hagar "outdoing" solo Roth. I'd say the quality of Van Hagar was mostly above DLR solo, yes. I far more enjoy Van Hagar than solo DLR. Haters say Van Hagar aged poorly, and in some cases that's true, but not nearly as poorly as solo Dave, IMHO. Van Hagar released too many horrible power ballads and Sammy ignored the classic VH songs live way too much.
@mcquestion i actually enjoyed the second half of the van hagar years more but sadly this band is at its best when there is tension and its only a matter of time before that tension goes to far.im not big on the power ballads either but the real truth is the era went far deeper than.i seen van hagar 3 times and all were very good shows and often wished they would have recorded those songs more like that for the albums.
Many people get on these threads for VH or Roth and start commenting which era of Van Halen they liked best, or hated blah, blah, blah......personally, growing up with the ORIGINAL VAN HALEN, I look at the Sammy Hagar era as just that: Sammy Hagar with Van Halen, NOT(!!) "Van Halen".....Im sure some of you will get that
Damn good song.....Man I look back at my life when I hear this one... reminds me that at my age I have fewer days ahead than I do behind. But the hell, it was one hell of a trip. I wouldn't change a thing....thanks for the song Dave, and the memories.....................
DLR WAS (emphasized!) Van Halen. I "LIKED" Halen with Sammy but "LOVED" Halen with David. They never were really quite the same were they? This is a "hang out with your old buddies and drink a beer" tune if there ever was one. The hurt Dave has for his relationship with Eddie is evident in this one and Vai nails it. Great tune. Great singer. Great decade. Happy to have lived through them. 45 now. It was only yesterday I was 22 when this gem came out.
"Now we know it was Eddie and not Dave that broke up Van Halen."
Exactly. V+Can you even imagine what it is like for a Jewish Genius like David Roth to put up with the Halen Borothers?????? Yes They are good at music. But Roth is good at Music AND Showmanship. I am speaking as A man with the nam Krouse and an Embarrassment on my genes/history. David Lee Roth---Please do one more...I'm asking you from the dirty Prussian side-----Please ---we love you Dave---PLEASE---GRAB ONE MORE STAR
noooooooo form beginninng no ahahahahaha -bellissimo brano, forse uno tra i migliori di questo album come ascolto-----molto india e la voce insuperabile di david lee roth ne fanno un brano storico, forever on the road, Giant David

Fantastic song, isn't it? Listening carefully to the lyrics, I'm almost for certain that he's singing about those times with Van Halen.

David Lee's voice talent is right up there with Robert Plant IMO - amazing vocal range. Robert has a TON more class though.

@Johnsnyder666 No wonder your post has only been here a week, yet has already received too many negative votes. I can see why.
This song is a classic with excellent acoustic guitar. For a change, Dave recorded a serious song (about the VH years) with excellent results.
If you think this is crap, what about Van Halen's most obnoxious song ever, "Loss Of Control"?
If you think this is crap, that shows your taste in music and your brain is crap.
