  • listened to this album today...this track reminds me of the summer!..

  • *****

  • TO MY BUDDY RONNIE DAMN GOOD TIMES ... MISS U WE HAD DAMN GOOD TIMES R.I.P.

  • good shit

  • DAMN GOOD TIMES...BRING THEM BACK.

  • I've always loved this song but I don't get it, was this supposed to be a message from Dave to Van Halen?

  • @SunsetSupermanRMB --- If you read the lyrics......it appears Dave wrote this song as a heartfelt love letter to his Van Halen bandmates and the good memories he had with them

  • I guess 9 people didn't have a damn good time lol....

  • Very few shred as well on a guitar as Steve Vai!!! Damn good guitar!

  • Gorgeous song. Dave knows how to be a part of successful music.

  • Damn good tune.nuff said

  • Springsteen blows

  • Great song, great album........I have the whole album of demos w/No Dave and two tunes that didnt make this album........Good Times!

  • \m/

  • damn good!!!!!!!!!!

  • This song brings back great memories. Sitting in my friends car out side the video game arcade smoking weed before going in to try to beat "Bad Dudes", "Ikari Warriors" and "Castlevania"!

  • @reptilia5

HAH! Castlevania? You must be as old as me! I didn't smoke though. Just drink (and still do). lol

  • It's incredible that Steve Vai wrote this song when he was 15 years old....

  • @Imperialmusicfan wow..didn't know that...cool.

  • @KillCrimson

    that's right...

  • Damn good indeed.

  • Almost 50 ; ( Sure wish I could go back to all of those good times.

  • sooooo goood.

  • Is anybody out there? Is anybody listening? Hello........

  • Ditto to all that remember this.....

  • This song makes the hurt come out for the ones you miss!

  • Great tune,,,,Vai`s finest.

  • MAN --- WE WAS HUNGRY IN OUR RESTLESS HEARTS

  • Still misses that Eddie Van Halen magic . Eddie has a sense of melody and music that is special .

  • @crazytempest There is no Eddie Van Halen in this song...

  • @Hammerhead786 I think he might be talking about Van Halen and him missing the good times, since he wrote this after he was oust by them.

  • @SuperWildbill62 Maybe but the van Halen brothers are cockbags. I doubt roth missed playing with them. he probably missed the money. From what I've heard no one likes the VH brothers in the biz. I saw them many, many times over the past 26 years most recently within the past year. They were fucking terrible! Hard to believe Eddie was ever one of the greatest guitar players. He couldn't even remember the songs and wolfgang should still be taking music lessons

  • @Hammerhead786 If you really don't think Edward Van Halen is the best guitarist to ever play on this planet you might as well listen to Bruce Springsteen!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @thesiciliannyc You are either 13 years old or you have not seen them in concert the past few years. the guy is FUBAR.... Don't believe me Google some recent concert footage...

  • @Hammerhead786 I saw your channel, you're GAY! Bruce Springsteen sold more than 65 million albums in the USA & more than 120 million worldwide. He has earned numerous awards for his work, including 20 Grammy Awards, 2 Golden Globes and an Academy Award. He is widely regarded by many as one of the most influential songwriters of the 20th century, and in 2004, Rolling Stone ranked him as the 23rd greatest artist of all time in its 100 Greatest Artists of All Time list. Yeah he sucks... COCKBAG

  • @thesiciliannyc And Bruce kicks ass you douche bag!

  • @Hammerhead786 BRUCE SUXS DUDE!!!!!!!

  • @SuperWildbill62 He wasn't "outsted" by anyone, DRL left VH because of Al and Ed's alcoholism.

  • This is not getting the air play it should, followed Van Halen and David from 1979 or so this guy has always been an impecable front man, and performer. Can't wait to see them again if you know what I mean!

  • intro = signature vai!!!

  • Vai at his best. Great tune. Thx for posting.

  • Some comments seem like Damn Good times, others do not. . . :)

  • Still Damn Good Song...

  • It is music like these that makes me glad that I am alive. If not, glad at the very least I'm still holding on...

  • Vai damn smart phone in a dummies hand lol

  • @ 10inchcrusher..lol vain probably quit cause it seems like this song is about him missing his van halen days? Dave is the greatest front man ever for van halen!!!

  • song reminds me of good times with good friends. Bless ya boys!

  • Has anyone ever kissed you like I intend on kissing you? Well??

  • Comment removed

  • Absolute classic track. Takes me right back. Damn good times.

  • sarcasm isnt your best quality. if your going to slam the red rocker make sure you come straight.

  • As good as anything VH did with DLR and 10 times better than anything VH did with Sammie Hager. This is a fact !!

  • @TheKhaibear heres a fact you cant spell. its hagar dumbass. still comparing the two. what a loser

  • @1288dallas Oh my god you have ruined my day. No I mispeled it becaus I'm note a Sammy Heaaggger fan but I'm a loser so I've learned to live with all the flaws

  • @TheKhaibear Ha Ha Ha Your Funny! I get it but guess some dont, Keep Rockin!

  • Diamond Dave Bitches.

  • reminds of high school, and my first real girlfriend....... damn good ;)

  • I love this song.

  • Truly...

  • David Lee and Steve Vai at their best...

  • this suppossed to be wide knowed classic

  • Oh man I've been looking for this for months. I just couldn't remember the title or if Van Halen put it out. Finally found it. Thank for posting

  • Love this song.

David Lee Roth - Sensible Shoes somewhere in Youtube?

  • Doctorbob409 thanks for the response, I as well just turned 50 congrats and many more to ya!

  • Truly enjoy this tune. Always nice to play to remember the good times.

  • I think of the many friends and relatives in my life and how too many have moved on with in their life~~as well as those that watching over us through the veil between the living and the hereafter~~~I often think fondly of those memories and our all our times together with family & friends~~~~Those were Damn Good Times!

  • probably his best song period!!!

  • Probably the best song this guy ever did solo

  • Love this song. I'm a little confused by the fact that I can't find the song "Skyscraper", I can find every song on the album, except the actual title song of the album. I know there are some live versions, but that's not what I want to hear. Maybe someone could upload the song 4 me? I Love You Tube!!!

  • Goddamn, motherfuckin, shit.....one of the best songs ever composed.

  • Damn good album

  • Brings it all back...great tune

  • This is the song that made Steve Vai quit. This was supposed to be an instrumental and Dave said no.

  • @10INCHCRUSHER Yeah - this has Steve all over it and not much Dave. You can almost hear his impatience with Dave in his guitar work. Steve was always going to have to run his own show. But God love Dave - easily one of the best frontmen of all time.

  • @10INCHCRUSHER That's interesting. How do you know that?

  • @10INCHCRUSHER i think its badass with daves vocals...song kinda like gordon lightfoot tunes...hehe..

  • DLR was/is definately a one of a kind performer!!

  • Comment removed

  • forgot about this<thanks dave , take me back

  • forgot about this<thanks dave

  • I feel so good listening this song

    :)

  • Good tune but "Hina" is better

  • This song reminds me of my mom Betty Gonzales she passed away in October the last time I saw her we danced ( oxygen tank on her back and all) got her a couple Martinis it was a great day-when I was growing up she let my band Jam in the garage was thinking about her today RIP MOM!

  • all the rothies have always told me about this song...seems kind of average too me.

  • To my recently departed friend Jesse Nuttall!

  • @koryclarke1991 R.I.P my friend!! For my uncle!!

  • 0.40 hehe Vai - Sex and Religion the song Rescue me or Bury Me :D

  • MAJESTIC DLR & VAI, BOTH GENIUS.

David Lee Roth is much more better singer (and sexy indeed) than Frank Sinatra and Steve Vai is much more better guitarrist than those beatles together.

  • 6 people don't feel damn good!

  • Looks like everyone seems to understand this song.

So I don't have to preach.

Damn, I miss those damn good times.

And the people I had them with.

David and Stevie had it in their hands for a damn good time.

What a great album! (I STILL listen to it on my headphones while a bike.)

  • Thanks for posting dude! Kinda surreal to me. Graduated high school in 88' when this came out. Was always a Halen fan and this was like a soundtrack then for those last days of school when you knew you'd never see a lot of cool people ever again. Great tune always!

  • @downvan77 Funny- I graduated in 88 too, but 5150 was our soundtrack. We loved Eat Em and Smile, but this one didn't do as much for us. Summer nights and a radio.

  • @bowiefan441970 Hear ya there man. It's just this tune in itself that grabbed me then, and now I know why. It's all good when we look back though ain't it? Great I mean. Hah.

  • @downvan77 I could have posted that myself.

  • @downvan77 i feel ya, dv77, i graduated in 90 and this song was in my soundtrack, too. me and my guitar geek pals were huge fans of this gem from venerable vai and diamond dave.

  • Good Lyrics and Great guitar work by Stevie V!

  • This song makes me remember--waaaaaay too many of my friends and relatives that have passed on!!! Good Times~~~~~

  • @squeak1964 Yeah, me too. Such a bittersweet song....

  • Damn good times are for me!

  • I see it coming yeah this 1 is ours, we got Heaven right here on earth. Ain't nothing like it when ur reaching 4 stars and u grab 1 4 what it is worth.

  • Excellent Song !

  • We all know David & the Brothers split over "creative differences"... But when you hear this & "Coconut Grove", and consider where the Brothers went with Hagar (Wailing on every hit they had with him), you can't help wonder what those "differences" really were. I mean: David had his share of hits during that time on which he wailed... Are they really [considerably or notably] that-far-different than what "Van Hagar" did at the time? Where's the truth here, people?

  • Enjoyed his biography some years ago, wouldnt we all love to drive so hard to attain our dreams + not let them pass us by, certainly an iconic Rock Star by any comparisons, For a period of time a member of the best rock band in the land, Cheers David!

  • @sweetitis ---- Diamond Dave wrote this song as a tribute to Van Halen ....... he really loved being in that band !!

  • @sweetitis Have to agree with you, saw Van Halen 4 times with Dave back in the early 80s been following ever since. This is real music as was a lot of stuff in the 60's, 70s' and 80's.

  • @bbgb2002 EXACTLY!!!

went Van Halen concerts...'78,'79,80'81.....GOOD GOD we were lucky to be there in those times...IT WAS SO GREAT

The power and passion these guys put out LIVE...todays crowd of youth doesnt know the vibe you left with!!!

Im 51 now...hard to believe, but listening to my Van Halen CDs takes me back to the days of my youth and the great times and menmories with our friends and family...this song is so relevant... they were DAMN GOOD TIMES!!!!

  • @DoctorBob409 A true rocker never dies Bod, the body just gives us somewhat rude reminders of our age, Ha Ha 18 for life, enjoy.

  • @DoctorBob409

Everytime I hear this tune I think about all the good times I had. When this tune came out back then I thought about all the good times I was going to have. Damn Good Times.

  • @DoctorBob409 Theyre back!!Saw them in Johnson City,Tn on Diver Down tour.Got tix for Greensboro!Im 43 and thought id never see em again.Thats the trouble with never! Wooooooooooo!!!!!!!!

  • @sweetitis no doubt! the breakup was after 5 or 6 awesome albums. he was sooooo much fun that after breakup he still put stuff out like this! miss him and van halen!

  • Good songs don't go out of style. Bad songs go out of style. In ten years we'll be thinking "how did Lady Gaga get so big?". Songs like this will always be good because it's real music by real musicians.

  • @hueseph mega yawn another lady gaga comment.

  • @KOSMICKEN09 I could have picked any other name out of a hat but she' big right now.

  • @hueseph ...you are so true with that..plus real musicians dont use auto tune

  • This is an excellent song and should. of been promoted better by the record company. Truly a DAMN GOOD song

  • howlin wolf...elvis...jagger..morrison...weiland....staley..& dave,...all had vocals i could id with...i love to sing (either karaoke,..or bailing out a local band whos singer screwed them for the night)..and the dudes i justed listed have comfy vocal ranges...

the highest i could go is ozzy

  • Can it get better than this? Can it?

  • @TheHockeyCentral sounds like your the fag

  • I bet if Sammy had written this very same tune same music and everything....all you Roth dick suckers would be saying, "Hagar's a fag".

  • @TheHockeyCentral In what universe is Sammy Hagar of the same calibre a musician as Steve Vai? Steve wrote this song. DLR sang it and maybe he had a hand in the lyrics but the melody is all Steve. Sammy has written some good songs but he's nowhere near the musician that Steve Vai is. Not in this universe or any other.

  • @hueseph I meant if Sammy wrote the same lyrics as Dave and sung the song, you fucking mental defective.

  • I can feel the Serotonin surge through my body each time I hear this song. It chills me out and gives me a positive vibe. I love it, love it, love it. Diamond Dave is still the man!!

  • Yeah, DLR... Motherfuckin' Mr STEVE VAI on freakin' Guitars!

  • Damn Good song You have to just love this fucking song.

  • Damn Good song

  • and they say van hagar is poppy.

  • @Pat9201 Good point. DLR was just as pop oriented as Van Hagar in its glory. Both were great IMHO.

  • @mcquestion this song isnt that bad, steve vai really carrys the song here.

  • @Pat9201 I don't think "poppy" actually equals "bad". Some of classic Van Halen's greatest songs had very "poppy" elements to them. I think the point is that haters accuse Van Hagar of being super pop oriented, but solo DLR was every bit as poppy at times. Doesn't mean it's bad.

  • @mcquestion i think there were plenty of van hagar songs that were not poppy but the pop songs got SO much more air time than the rest of theirs or any of the solo roth stuff hides that some.songs like "AFU (naturally wired)" "judgement day" and others rocked but really never seen air time.i think alot of that dislike is because van hagar just simply out did solo roth.

  • @Pat9201 I totally agree with most of your comments. I don't know what you mean by Van Hagar "outdoing" solo Roth. I'd say the quality of Van Hagar was mostly above DLR solo, yes. I far more enjoy Van Hagar than solo DLR. Haters say Van Hagar aged poorly, and in some cases that's true, but not nearly as poorly as solo Dave, IMHO. Van Hagar released too many horrible power ballads and Sammy ignored the classic VH songs live way too much.

  • @mcquestion i actually enjoyed the second half of the van hagar years more but sadly this band is at its best when there is tension and its only a matter of time before that tension goes to far.im not big on the power ballads either but the real truth is the era went far deeper than.i seen van hagar 3 times and all were very good shows and often wished they would have recorded those songs more like that for the albums.

  • Many people get on these threads for VH or Roth and start commenting which era of Van Halen they liked best, or hated blah, blah, blah......personally, growing up with the ORIGINAL VAN HALEN, I look at the Sammy Hagar era as just that: Sammy Hagar with Van Halen, NOT(!!) "Van Halen".....Im sure some of you will get that

  • Damn good song.....Man I look back at my life when I hear this one... reminds me that at my age I have fewer days ahead than I do behind. But the hell, it was one hell of a trip. I wouldn't change a thing....thanks for the song Dave, and the memories.....................

  • DLR WAS (emphasized!) Van Halen. I "LIKED" Halen with Sammy but "LOVED" Halen with David. They never were really quite the same were they? This is a "hang out with your old buddies and drink a beer" tune if there ever was one. The hurt Dave has for his relationship with Eddie is evident in this one and Vai nails it. Great tune. Great singer. Great decade. Happy to have lived through them. 45 now. It was only yesterday I was 22 when this gem came out.

  • Damn good song. Brings back lots of my own happy memories.

  • Dave... who on the entire planet is like him??? not a soul.

  • I think this is a great song... come to my mind really damm good times

  • So this is where Pearl Jam stole the intro for Jeremy!

  • @boogiechillen123 you know, Vai stole bits of Jimmy Page here and there ;)

  • Epic tune!

  • 4 people hate Good Times...

  • Every day is "Damn Good" times if you make it that way. But this song helps out tremendously!

  • Fantastic song, isn't it? Listening carefully to the lyrics, I'm almost for certain that he's singing about those times with Van Halen.

  • my three favorite frontman are Diamond Dave, Freddie Mercury, and Jim Morrison.

  • Roth's nostalgia for his years in Van Halen.

Classy song, Dave ---- still love it after all these years gone by

  • este es un buen album el mejor

  • David Lee's voice talent is right up there with Robert Plant IMO - amazing vocal range. Robert has a TON more class though.

  • GOOD ALBUM MAN DAVE USED HIS MAGIC

  • gotta love diamond davE

  • Thanks for all the awesome music, Dave.

  • Many years of great friends!

  • linda canção, david e vai, perfect!!!!

  • Good, good jam. real mellow. always liked it.

  • Skyscraper studio version: watch?v=rzaO5A1w4d0

  • oh god, the memories

  • "Now we know it was Eddie and not Dave that broke up Van Halen."

Exactly. V+Can you even imagine what it is like for a Jewish Genius like David Roth to put up with the Halen Borothers?????? Yes They are good at music. But Roth is good at Music AND Showmanship. I am speaking as A man with the nam Krouse and an Embarrassment on my genes/history. David Lee Roth---Please do one more...I'm asking you from the dirty Prussian side-----Please ---we love you Dave---PLEASE---GRAB ONE MORE STAR

  • Awesome tune, Awesome Album, one of the best Albums ever, imo

  • Awesome tune

  • Man, I forgot all about this little gem from 1988...good times, indeed.

  • noooooooo form beginninng no ahahahahaha -bellissimo brano, forse uno tra i migliori di questo album come ascolto-----molto india e la voce insuperabile di david lee roth ne fanno un brano storico, forever on the road, Giant David

  • @Johnsnyder666 No wonder your post has only been here a week, yet has already received too many negative votes. I can see why.

This song is a classic with excellent acoustic guitar. For a change, Dave recorded a serious song (about the VH years) with excellent results.

If you think this is crap, what about Van Halen's most obnoxious song ever, "Loss Of Control"?

If you think this is crap, that shows your taste in music and your brain is crap.

  • David made the decade of decadence worth what it was said to mean.

  • @dewster66 dave was dave,dont like him,then piss off,he dont care.i loved him,alwyas will.

  • @sunkcontrol couldnt have said it better myself......

  • "From The Beginning" Emerson,Lake, and Palmer????
