@DanielBaroque I have now! It cld just be the recording but for me Sara Mingardo has such a gorgeous tone and incredible low notes, although i am a fan of Stutzmann too - her low register is amazing too and she sings more "heroicly" if that's a word .. well, i wouldn't know which to prefer. All i know, is i would love to be able to sing like this! :)
@PrimaRagazza I appreciate all you've shared here. I think it's a matter of personal taste. For me, Nathalie has a swagger and lushness that Sara doesn't, and therefore she really excels in castrato roles. And they are both wonderful musicians with beautiful alto voices - the real deal in this world of high and bright, with mezzos everywhere (but I have a couple of mezzos that I think are true altos! Haha).
@PrimaRagazza Well, we certainly agree that voices that capture attention have intelligence and beauty and are true to themselves. Many women strain to become mezzos or soprani because they want steady work and fear that letting their natural voice type shine could be detrimental, especially if they are contraltos. This is sad, and I get why they do that.
The huge burst of countertenors just makes the whole issue even more so for altos. They already have so much competition in the opera scene.
Such a marvellous voice - I don´t know whether I better like to hear hers or N. Stutzmann´s version of this - best one after the other!

PrimaRagazzo, have you listened to the version sung by Nathalie Stutzmann? Very plummy, heroic sound, excellent technique.
