I'm sure Gary is an an excellent engineer/mixer but using him in a 'teacher/tuturial' situation was a fail by the props...he waffles and waffles and either the lesson gets lost in tangents he goes off on or he fails to explain key points of why he is doing what he is doing. Please props next time you bring someone in to talk about mixing and mastering make it someone who sticks to the point at hand.
Is it right that he is using a Scream on a parallel bass channel? anytime i try this it seems to cause phasing with the original signal, how does he make it work without phasing?
@BudgeBurnley There's an Invert Phase button on each channel of the SSL mixer (I think near the top). You might could try that and see if it takes care of the phasing problem.
I'm not sure what's gotten into the negative people here but I personally appreciate ANY professional tips. Thank you, Gary for sharing your secrets. Your work is brilliant.
When asked how Reason compares to other DAWs, I usually answer by saying... "It is like someone ask you to go to the store and bring home some milk, then hand you the keys to the space shuttle". With other DAWs its like they ask you to go to the store, and they hand you "quad wheeled" roller skates, and point you down a gravel road. Pat Reese LionCrossdotcom

The exciting aspect of Propellerhead videos, is that we have the opportunity to see how other engineers utilize different aspects of their working knowledge within the Reason realm. Surely, each of us has unique paths to obtain the sound we desire through the matrix of decisions that could be made. To grow and become the best you can be, a wide range of knowledge must be ascertained through various insights to how others work.
Really enjoyed this when it was posted, just having another watch before heading down to the master class in Cardiff tonight to catch Gary in person : )
The guy has very good points, he has interesting ideas, and of course a lot of experience, but definitely he need to focus his thoughts!!!
It was so difficult to follow him for one hour! Yes, I got the point, this "legendary dude" is using the super mixer console from Reason-Record for everything now and on... but please Propellerheads, find a better speaker to present your amazing products. Someone easy to understand for non-native english speakers.

GARY, YOU ARE EXTREMELY ANNOYING. I DON'T EVEN REMEMBER when was the last time someone made so utterly wrong impression on me. You TALK SHIT THE WHOLE TIME, we don't care. You are not fucking Mozart, so stop making such a smartass from yourself.
@acertm 1 guy talks to us for hours about mixing tips. 1 guy posts an anonymous all-caps insult on YouTube. Wait I'm sorry which one was annoying? If you say you don't care, why did you watch the whole thing... And this is part 2!
@acertm Srsly dude. Go somewhere else and annoy other people. Gary was unbelievably open and helpful and I would definitely have a pint or six with him.
this guy royally pissed me off with his incessant babbling about absolutely nothing.. complete waste of time.. Shout out to NNXT on a good song though
Gary cannot seem to finish a sentence or an idea when he speaks which made it really hard for me to follow..... I love MMM and thank Gary and PRops for the MMM, but this epsiode was really hard to follow with the lack of complete ideas.
Brilliant talk, plenty to think about and try out. But I can't see why anyone would be embarrassed to love Pink Floyd, Dark Side of the Moon is still one of the most beautifully and perfectly mixed albums ever! That album and William Orbit's amazing production on Madonna's Ray of Light album are my mixing touchstones.

I'd like to see a further guide on using the sidechain to the master compressor as I did not really understand this.
