  • I MIGHT NOT FAIL MY DATA MANAGEMENT EXAM NOW, THANK YOU SO MUCH!

  • Thank you so much for taking the time and effort to make this video and teach this topic. When I saw that you used word problems too, I almost cried. I finally understand what the book and my teacher has been talking in gibberish about for the past week :') THANK YOU SO MUCH for the help!

  • @klutzwithaZ happy i could help : ) good luck in your class!

  • YOU ARE A FUCKING MONSTER!!! =)

  • You're better than my teacher -- thank you so much :) it's much clearer now. I couldn't understand what happens if "the order matters". And now I do, thank you!

  • Serioulsy dawg, im so god damn lost in class and then i watch these videos and BOOM EPIC FACE PALM HOW DID I NOT SEE IT BEFORE!!! Thank you so much man!!!!

  • this is almost not realistic!

    Thank you for your help

  • Hi can u explain how u multiply last part so quickly...

  • @MrSambaridly Hi!

I would love to, sadly, I am not the creator of the video.

Would you mind if I showed you?

  • DUDE U ALWAYS SAVE MY LIFE!

  • thank you from saudi arabia :> we do study this in Applied statistics , that helped me alot

  • ok question for you:

In how many ways can five students be seated in a row of five chairs if

    a) jack insists on sitting in the first chair

    b) jack insists on sitting in the middle chair

    c) jack insists on sitting in an outside chair

jack is a picky little bugga anno

  • I'd pick YOU for president if this is how you teach math.

  • @Claudiia1234 ha, i would be one messed up el presidente

  • dude thanks, i finally lnow how this works, thank you thank you

  • @Skux32 no problem!

  • @Skux32 you are most welcome

  • @patrickJMT I've got a really good probablilty and matrices lecturer, but going over your videos make me sure of my answers Thanks! :D

  • Gamsahapnida which means thank you in Korean. I really had problems with this concept in SAT Math Tutoring but you make it so simple. :)

  • @TaegukFootball perfect : )

  • thanks a lot!!

  • Thanks!

  • thank yoh :)

  • Thank You for the amazing videos..a word of advice to youtube, pls dont put ads in the middle of videos, at least spare educational videos...i know this world is a big market, at least spare education. It has already become a fish market ..at least spare these selfless teachers...

  • @ullasrajchellappan1 thanks for letting me know it was in the middle, i will get it removed

  • So I watched both the permutation and the combination videos, you stated in both videos that they are without replacement. Is this true? I'm confused on how Combinations are without replacement and order doesn't matter and Permutations are without replacement and order does matter. Could u please clarify? Thank you.

  • @picacura combinations ----> order does not matter. permutations -----> order does matter

  • Thank you that was amazing! :) Your videos always make math easier :D

  • Patrick...this video really helped to clarify things for my daughter. We will definitely check out your other videos.

  • @littlestorybug glad it helped - the counting stuff can be really confusing

  • how we know that which question are belong to permutation and combination.i am confusing in this .plz help me

  • @68sabashah that confuses me too.

  • @68sabashah @TheSwaziki13 All of us found this guy! Try putting the word problem into different search engines. I've been looking for the 12 people seated at a table possible combinations, and Patrick here solves it. (I'm pretty sure) 12*ll*10*9 etc. right?

All things are possible with a computer! The more proficient you are at using your computer the easier and faster the solutions to problems will come. < I should write that down.

  • DUDE! WHEW! wow!

  • don't get me wrong, you are a fine teacher, but ...what bugs me about your videos is that you don't show were the formulas came from , how it has been derived

  • we're actually asked to prove that nPr = n [(n-1)P(r-1] how is this done? im really having a hard time with proving..

  • Awesome !!!

  • Dammit, dude. You are just such an amazing math teacher! I'm so happy I found your channel. It's like I can actually have fun now in learning, and note: I HATE(-ed) math and now, I'm starting to love it and all thanks to you. :)

  • I would rather watch your videos than listen to my own professor in class any day! I was able to catch onto what you were teaching faster than I can in class.

  • hey patrick, how you doin? :)

I have a question, I didnt understand why the oreder DOES matter when voting for vicepresident or president. Because I think if I vote for vice president A first and then for president B is the same as if I vote for ViceP A first and then Pres. B.

    Please, Enlight me again!

  • well done!

  • So.. I woulda sat here staring at my notes all sleepy-like, get up tomorrow and be like.. crap, I fell asleep. But nope, thanks to you. I can clearly remember how to do this stuff again! And you make it so simple to remember. =)

  • what if there is 5 books and one must be on the end?

  • Thumbs up if you feel you got robbed paying a full semester's worth of tuition to not understand a concept that Patrick explained in like 10 mins...you're da man!

  • I have hated counting for so long throughout this year but finally I get it, thank you so much xxxx

  • Thank you so much for this video. It really helped a lot. You did a wonderful job. Thank you Thank you Thank you

  • thanks!!

  • no lie i understand you way much better than my teacher she goes blahblahblah ... i dont get it... thanks for the help most prob i got a popquiz on this tomorrow xD lolz

  • if i had to rearrange 5books on one shelf, and 3 books on another shelf

(5 specific on one) and (3specific on another) but any order

    Would it be 5! + 3!

    or 5! X 3! i am not sure=[

  • @TheTalmon18 its probably 5! X 3!

  • @ipoonhobos

yea i thin it is too

I just took teh CST for my alg2/trig calss

and im like 99.99% sure i got every question right hhaha, looking forward to a 600 score=]

i looked at the question, if 5! + 3! was on it, itd be 126 and that was not one of the options:D

    So 5!X3! it was!:D

  • @TheTalmon18 sweet. i just took the sat math level 2 subject test.. im really mad becuase i stumbled on time on the last 5 or 6.. so i skipped 5 total but if i got the other 45 perfectly right then i am still elligible for an 800 :P

  • fuck data management

  • fuck data managment

  • clutch

  • lol its funny how in almost all of your videos i end up seeing the educationvids advertisements lol..and i always thought the ads were random..but not so random after all lol...gotta love google

  • this was good, but I'm still gonna fail :(

  • jk youre awesome(:

  • you are the only reason why am passing my math class, marry me?

  • very nice video....it helped me a lot :>

  • totally straight but i would blow u, here comes 100 on my next test yadig!!!

  • Thanks Patrick, you are very easy to understand unlike my math teacher. You are very intelligent and easy to understand. I am looking forward to your tutorials!

  • youre not just good, youre awsomeee!!! thanks a loot

  • @MsServed88 you are very welcome

  • Should i be surprised you're lefthanded? Us leftys are truely gifted

  • To permute is cute. This video is astute.

  • Thank yoUuUU SO much!

  • my teacher discusses this for like 2 hours and i could only understand halfway but for 10 mins you taught me like everything about permutations

  • U sir are famous worldwide!

  • Patrick, you are truly one of the greatest minds I have seen in my entire life. I know another person like this. You truly distinguish yourself from the sheep. I am HORRIBLE at math, truly horrible (that means I can barely do 2nd year highschool math) and you manage to explain the stuff I am taking now so clear, that I get it in a matter of SECONDS while my prof can't manage to explain it to me using hours. You deserve a medal!

  • @LeBadman ha, you are too kind ; )

  • @LeBadman No one is naturally bad at math, you have to work at it. My sis sucked at math, the way you describe her she described herself haha, I have gotten alot of 90-100's in my life at every level in Math. I was naturally good at it, my sis wasn't. My sis is better than me at Math now, not because I stopped studying or keeping in practice but because Math is you either get or need to work to understand. Everyone has the ability to calculate stuff, you just have to train yourself. GudLUCK

  • @driftyx Thanks for the motivational speech. =)

  • Alright, what idiots keep disliking Patrick's super awesome videos? lol

  • CAn you solve this problem: Q. How many words can be formed out of the letters of the word "COURAGE"? AND (1). In How many of them the vowels come together?

  • I love your way of teaching! Thank you! SUBSCRIBE!!

  • you are amazing, helps a lot. Thanks!!

  • thx dude! u are awesome! :)

  • Wow ur amazing

  • Dude your great. Other video's are like blablablabla.

You = Straight to the point!

Excellent and keep up the good work!

  • @Skyrodude thanks, i will try.

  • Thanks Patrick! You make it so much easier. I'm in a french school so my math is obviously in french too but this really easy to understand.

  • I thought P(6,6) was equal to 1?!?!?!?!

  • @wonderbreadkilla C(6,6) is 1

  • thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you!!!!!!!!!!!

  • you may be good at math but your spelling is inadequate. I spotted an error on 6:36

    I LOVE your math though.

  • @bhz10 bound to happen. and to think... i won the spelling bee in elementary school

  • @patrickJMT anytime someone tells me I misspelled something, I refer them to Arthur Golding's 1567 translation of Ovid's Metamorphosis. The scholars who created the English language were never concerned about these trivial differences in the way we spell words. The goal in writing is to transmit knowledge, rather than to simply trying to spell words the same way that a trivial book (dictionary) says we should spell them.

  • My professor takes an entire hour to explain this and i still didnt get. But yet in 10 minutes of this video i learned so much! Thanks for posting these types of videos!

  • thanks a lot man

  • THANK YOU PATRICK! truly appreciate your videos...helps me understand statistics so much more

  • thank you so much : )

  • WOW!!

    Thanks ALOT!!

    I really appreciate your videos

You're even better than our teacher!!

    Keep up the good work

    Finally Thank you very much!!!

  • omg thank you so much ! :)

you explained things so much clearer than my teacher at school and your videos are very useful for if i've missed any classes.

  • You're teaching style is perfect. My teacher is great, but she's already slammed 3 rockstars by 10am. This would be nice, thanks for the help.

  • lol thanks for the education and the humour (:

  • this is so helpful !! .

  • thanks so much i get it

  • 0!=1! ?

  • Thank you for this easy to understand lesson on YouTube.

  • ITS NEVER BEEN SO CLEAR. thank u...!

  • if u get time i have one doubt on permutation please help me

i will mail my que whenever u want

  • please solve this for me 14! x 240

  • thank you sir Patrick for creating this video, it helps me a lot. You help other people like me to understand some topics in math like permutation.

  • wow. you solve quick..

  • HAHA!!.... your left handed!!

  • hey patrick, you're a bloody legend. good on you mate. you're a real help to many people. thanks heaps.

  • Thank you so much for uploading these videos! you are a LIFE SAVER!

  • thank you very much ... got a test monday and this surely helps...

  • yea...... I'd probably be last too if I were to play softball...

  • hey, thanks..i have an exam about probability, permutation and combination next week.your vids really help me a lot..Godbless you..

  • do you know how to do something with extremely high numbers without using the calculator? My professor never went over that. For example 300C298. I've been starting at a problem similar to this and trying to solve it for several hours now with no luck.

  • once again you saved my ass=] no homo

  • Please tell me that you didn't get the 3, 628, 800 figure simply by doing mental maths...:)

  • What if repetition is allowed?

  • why waste so much paper. just use a white board!

  • Patrick isnt permutation just when you are using a specific order like from left to right etc? then combination is for when you can randomly pick anyone?

  • my teacher knows stuff but doesn't know how to TEACH...stupid teacher...i am failing this course :(....wish you were in my school man (Y)

  • hey man....i have a pure mathematics exam on wednesday...hw cool would it be for u to add me on skype and give me some pointers?.......lol

  • @dyellows10 my pointer: study

  • @patrickJMT

    PWNED!

  • @patrickJMT pity d guy, but yeah thts true

  • how did you make that 3 million total so fast i`d like to know

  • @sgwars525671 using a calculator and writing it down so he would have it ready for the video i assume

  • dang man, your amazing! how do u remember all these math terms...through all your 508 videos!

  • I found you first semester of my senior year when I was taking Calculus AP. I can honestly say that because of your videos I passed my exam with flying colors. You're so helpful. Since I've moved on to college I've continued to use your videos in both my elements of Calculus and finite applications class. You're amazing! Please keep posting these easy to understand, helpful videos!

  • ty patrick ur my guiding light in math...

  • thaks for videos man! ur rly good at this :)

  • haha he says (for the baseball example) so if I go first and you go second it's a different ordering than if you go second and I go first. :D i just find it funny. and if someone with a shaky english listens to this, they'll be breaking their head trying to understand that. :)

  • Your videos are extremely useful and have helped me out a great deal. As well as your videos and permutations/multiplication principal, the explanation of the differentiation/chain rule also erased several uncertainties in my mind. Keep up the good work, man!

  • you are a ghetto superstar! but yes the examples could be a bit more challenging, we get tested on much harder stuff than this, and lectures just go ryt thru me no matter how hard i try to focus, nonetheless u r the greatest help thus far

  • thank you sooo much for this.. tomorrow is my final exam and ds is jst very helpful.. . :) wish me luck.lol

  • thanks so much. now i can ace my mid term today

  • great!!

  • Thank you so much! My math teachers is horrible..

  • nice...thanks very helpful

do u have a video where you do permutations on words ...like how many permutations are there in ANNEX or something????

  • Thank you thank you thank you!

    You are amazing!

You should teach my teacher how to teach.

  • You're awesome! You're my hope when textbooks and teachers are ineffective...:)

  • dude u are amazing now u have helped me with to of my wkshts now i will look at your vids tom

  • thanks.. but i need harder problems... the examples here in my book are so difficult... OMG.. the exam is coming..

  • i looooooooove you!!!!

    gosh, i hate everything math!

and my teacher... i hate you CHAVEZ.!!!!

  • I think your tutorials are sooooooo useful, i am hooked!

  • watched this is Alg. 2 class. fun times :P

  • Nice, so much better than the prof and text!

  • you never explained how many times you muliply to get 120

  • @Fuckenmagic 5! = 5x4x3x2x1

  • You are awesome! Thanks for the great videos!

  • thank you very much, very useful :)

  • Thanks for being the most helpful dude on the internet (well maybe you're tied with Paul and his online notes)

Did you calculate the 10 factorial in your head? I'd be interested to know how.

  • helped a lot thanks dude

  • yay to the left hand!!

  • this video really helped

    thank you

  • Thanks so much man! i think i may love you for this

  • thamk you so much for posting this video.

  • Very well organized, it helped me to memorize the formula and most importantly how to use it :) and the conditions regarding permutations. I am taking a Discrete Structure 1 class at City College of New York, and the way you explain things are clearer than my professor. He's been there for almost 20 years, explaining same stuff over and over again to student throughout the years, I see lots of friction on him :) Can't trust college education nowadays :)

  • n! / (n-0)! = n!/n! =1

  • r u like a mathematician

  • one paper published, but i do not do research now, so: no, i am not a mathematician

  • @patrickJMT

Perhaps some professionals only title themselves if they "publish". But you, Sir, have published one paper and 843 instructional videos.

I'll bet that more people have watched your videos and you've educated more people than the majority of Ivory Tower publications.

    Hats off to you, Mathematician!

  • 1! = 1

  • @patrickJMT 0!=1! ?

  • @patrickJMT

and 0! equals 1 right? I always thought that was dumb

  • can you prove 0! = 1?

  • well, it is not so much a proof that is required.i think it is more of a notational convenience.

if we did not use this definition, many theorems and proofs would have to have a special case to make things work out

  • if 0! = 1 then what does 1! = ?

  • No need to prove it.

0! is an "empty product" or "nullar product", which is number 1, also called, the multiplicative identity.

It is the same for the sum function: if you make the sum of 0 numbers, you get the additive identity, which is 0.

    Cheers

  • thanks again pat, this one really help me out from confusion.

  • glad it helps : )

  • Comment removed

  • jeez patrick, u have everything

  • not yet...

  • OUTSTANDING!!!! Thank You.

  • Thank You!

This video made it much clearer for me now!

  • I still dont see the difference in the word problems for permutations and combinations

  • usually there is some unique quality assigned to each object, you will use permutations.

for example: if there are 10 people, and we pick 3 people for the job of president, vice president, and secretary, we are giving the people we pick different jobs, and so, they have a 'unique' quality compared to the others so we use permutations.

suppose we have 10 people, and we pick 3 people to judge a contest. now, there are all the same (all judges) so we use combinations
