Takes watching these old races to REALLY appreciate Paul Page, Bobby Unser, Gary Gerould, and Jack Arute (and Jerry Punch for Indy). And, yes, even Danny Sullivan. :)
ahhhh i miss the old CART when they raced at the Meadowlands, I lived about 15 minutes from the Meadowlands and the track still stands today, well it was part of the arena's parking lot. they should bring back INDYCAR racing to the NJ/NY Metro area again...but that is a far fetched dream... :(
@HollywoodSheen The "play-by-play" guy is Don Criqui. Racing certainly wasn't his usual beat. I'm guessing this was an NBC broadcast. Not sure who the analyst is.
hopefully Barnhart watches this race and sees you can have marshalls tend to stranded cars. You don't need to wait for the safety team. Also, LOCAL YELLOW! Use it Barnhart
love how they keep the race green even when a car is slightly off track. Wish today's indycar would do the same. Can't stand the 25 yellows every street race we have now. Someone gets a flat now and they'll bring out a yellow, horrible
most unenthusiastic announcers I've ever heard. Do any american commentators have even the slightest bit of passion or emotion? Take a lesson from ben edwards or john hindhaugh from alms.
@markjoachen look at the crowd though, 10 cars and 20,000-30,000 fans (just a rough estimate)? that's more than the average Indycar race today (outside of Indianapolis)
@NeighborOfTheBeast89 Yes, albeit only for a couple of years. Al Holbert was instrumental in the conception of this project, but his tragic death in an aircraft accident hamstrung the program... and, as some rumors have it, a couple other prominent CART teams intervened to hobble the Porsche's chassis development via some sketchy rules changes.
Anyone remember the Meadowlands race when Arie Luyendyk missed a corner and went down the runoff area thinking he would come back to the track and ended up going down an on ramp onto the highway? Wish I could find the video!
@Fun4Video2 the race your talking about when Arie went off. just type in 1991 indycar meadowlands and you'll find the entire race not sure what part it is but you'll see the links so u can see the entire race.
UNREAL to relive this entire race! "20 years have gone by...where have they gone?!"....you ever wish you could go back? When I watch this race.....I sure do...
My thing about Street Road Races - it needs to go on for 8 hours. Make an appeal like there is a standoff - something along the lines of a Le Mans Endurance race
great to see the effort being put forth to keep the past in the eyes of the present. now if we can just get the associated press and LAT to be more reasonable about all of the photographic history...life would be good.

i wish that indycar series should race in meadowlands again, and race around the IZOD center, after all IZOD is indycar's title sponsor

@markjoachen There were 28 cars; most of them were just way behind at the start for some reason.

odd track. at first glance it looks aweful but watching the race, seems a lot of passing. so the track is entertaining.
