  • ONE OF THE VERY FIRST REAL LIFE JOINTS EVER!!THANX FOR GIVING THESE GUYS LOVE MAN OLD SCHOOL IS TRUESCHOOL!!

  • I don't know about 1980, but this track reached Philly in March,1982 on two labels -Rissa Chrissa (All Black label), and Brunswick. We rocked this uptown 'til about October. "The Message" dropped in July.

  • Damn! I forgot about this jam! Thank you for posting it! Real Hip Hop at its best!!

  • this is the dope.

  • Melle Mel's verse on The Message was actually the last verse on the B-side of Super Rappin' in 1979 -- so technically, he is still the first :)

  • Oh Yes!...dis is what I'm talkin' 'bout! Bangin'!!! Thx

  • oh shit, damn, i need a timemachine, to get back, when Hip Hop was sooo real.

    Peace Zulu Nation!

  • Another underground classic jam, you never heard cuts like these on the radio, really only in after hour clubs. Brings back memories

  • This should've been playing 3 years ago......BEFORE BUSH left office!

  • ONE KICK ASS POST!!!!!! True GOLD!!!!!!

  • AWSOME!!!!!! A very rare classic!! DYNOMITE POST!!!! True GOLD!!! Thanks!

  • OOOOWWEEE!!!!!! A very rare classic!! DYNOMITE POST!!!! True GOLD!!! Thanks!

  • Flashbacks of high school days when you rushed home on Friday's and dressed to kill for the evening ahead!

  • a master piece !

  • Man...This record made Rap history!! It's one of the FIRST rap records to talk about political and social issues. It came out YEARS before "The Message" (by Grand Master Flash and the Furious Five). This jam even talks about "foreign oil", which is a major concern TODAY. "The Big Throwdown" was way ahead of it's time!!!

  • @WorldwideGrooves well 1 year before The Message but yeah it rocks!

  • @johnnyroast "The Big Throwdown" originally came out in 1980, on Rissa-Chrissa Records. Then, Brunswick picked -up the record and continued its release in 1981.

  • @WorldwideGrooves

It came out exactly 1 YEARS before 'The Message'. Radical!

  • I remember This, Back When Rap Started, Brings You Back.

  • Ahhhhhhhh! Man I've looking for this jam for 26 years! Me and my drumline at Salem High in Jersey stole the intro beat and had the funkiest streetbeat of any marching band in South Jersey in fall of '82.

  • @MrToot87 U aint lying Ive been looking for this to. See this is something u pump riding by the projects with that ol'skool monte carlo,15" crager or keystone with 4 six by nines and dont 4get the whiskers{fender skirts} U dont know bout that

  • @01plucas

    What about the TruSpokes?

  • sweet jesuz, thats is WOW

  • Jus' look'n at this label brings back so many memories...

  • So funky, so hip hop, so prophetic based on this economy!

  • this music reminds of days of Disco days like studio 54 and Debbie Harry in Blonde that's what comes to mind when i hear this pure CLASSIC!!!!!

  • Really nice!!!!!! Valuable search item!

  • I commend your archives, this track is rare as f***!! Keep teachin' the youngsters..~Skycap

  • This same exact jam was released on two different labels: Brunswick and Rissa-Chrissa.

  • Luv this song, brings back good times!

  • Brunswick Record Corp. 1981 (C)

  • Este Som eu tenho no Lp Furacão 2000 Sonzeira......

  • I was spinning at Chuck's Disco in North Philly when I first heard this (March '82). This was before the Run-DMC era.

  • Even though this came out in 1981, the lyrics perfectly describe today's economic crisis.

  • 5:01 portamento...

  • click it, just click it, click it, just click it!

  • octaves lead...

  • THX... I'd think what I die and no hear this song never more... (My voice is the same of this main vocal)

  • Smokin track. Can't get enough of this. I can't help but get up and get and down.

  • I thinks this beats 'the message' out as the earliest concious hip hop track...fukin love this tune...total classic!!

  • I still have this. Early hip-hop.

  • Rissa Chrissa Records also released the very same recording.

  • This was released in the very early eighties, and people love it today, even though it was only going to be used as a rough demo. Mike Serrette rapped and played most of the instruments. He wanted to re-record it after they signed a record deal. But the demo sounds hot!!

  • I was reading Mike Serrette's MySpace page and he said that "THE BIG THROWDOWN" was a very rough demo that the record company released. He wanted to re-do the production before releasing it. But I think the song is phenomenal! Damn! Jam on it Mike Serrette!!!!!
