  • The words have been changed. Very bad.

  • @jensmom604

"For All the Saints" was written as a processional hymn by the Anglican Bishop William Walsham How. He wrote 11 Stanzas - most hymnals do not include all 11. These are possibly not the ones you are used to, but we have "changed" nothing.

  • Sorry--that was 2010. Oh well.

  • This was the closing hymn for my Mother's funeral Mass in Oct., 1910, and as sad as I was, I was so happy I had selected it as I felt it reflected all the joy she brought to my life in her 99 years. And I know she loved it.

  • @guisseppief1

That is so nice of you to share this story of your Mother.

Thanks for your comments and for viewing.

    God bless,

  • They sung this at my Grandad's Funeral.

    Lovely hymn!

Thank you, and all best wishes to you for Christmas and 2011.

  • I'm a Catholic and one thing I can say about our brothers and sisters in Christ, the Protestants, is that the Protestant tradition is steeped in a great tradition of hymnody. This is a wonderful song!

  • Excellent! As only an Episcopalian Church can do it! One of the most moving pieces ever when we celebrate All Saints Day, using this as the introit with banners celebrating our Saints lost within the last year.

  • This is a smashing verion of a fine hymn. It's the best version I could find on yourtube - particularly in regard to the organist - spot on and totally in synch with your lovely choir. Not an easy thing - I'm sure you've spent many hours practicing !!

  • This is one of my most favorite hymns of all time, and it is truly inspiring to hear it played and sung with such spirit.

  • @rogerneon Thanks for your kind comments and for viewing.

  • I think I want my funeral to be all hymns from the 1941 Hymnal :) I'll have to make up a list.

  • What a beautiful hymn! The organ and choir sound so great together

  • Thanks for viewing and your kind comments.

  • What a blessing to hear; this is the epitome of praise music. I've heard this congregation sing my other favorite, "Gracious God of All Creation", another tune from Wales. I'm convinced that the Welsh must have some unusual connection to the musical ear of the Almighty.

  • Thanks for your kind comments and for viewing.

  • friggin lovely

  • Thank you.

  • In prep for All Saints Sunday (Nov. 1st, 2009), I like to play the hymns that are sung at home for fun. This is one of them and your video helps me to play without notes.

  • This is my most beloved hymn, we sing this in my UCC church since I was child on every All Saints Day, and most funerals. I love to sing it an play it on the organ. Very well done...

  • I think all of the churches have some good and some bad. I've seen a lot of committees and cliques where the love of God wasn't always shown. But then I would get involved in great church music like this and forgive all of it. Hey, we're all sinners! I love this song!!!

  • Thanks for viewing and your comments.

  • I used to be a Methodist minister. I saw how things were actually done in committee and in the heirarchy. It is a church in disarray. Factions against factions. Good News, Confessing, Reconciling, Emmaus, etc. are tearing it up. We also have said we welcome through "Open Hearts, Minds, and Doors", and yet we really don't mean it. Check this out for yourself.

  • Much like in The Episcopal Church, Thank GOD, the Lutherans have the Knowledge to pass on God's Word!!

  • Thank you for sharing this version of a great old hymn. It brings back childhood memories of a Sunday with loved ones long past.

  • Thanks for your comments and for viewing.

  • This song's beauty is unparalleled. The Methodists may use this hymn, but it is straight from the Anglican-Episcopal tradition. Since 1968, Methodists have been trying decide what they're going to be when they grow up. Reconciling movement? Confessing movement? Good News movement? Emerging Church movement? Primitive movement? Traditional movement? And they wonder why their numbers decline. When I se this video, I see the real thing.

  • Thanks for your comments and for viewing.

  • This Methodist can only reply to your rant with the words of British poet John Oxenham (1852-1941). "In Christ there is no east or west, In him no south or north; But one great fellowship of love throughout the whole wide earth." If you have taken on Christ maybe do it with more love and less judgement. I will pray for you.

  • I am not ranting. Mine are the words of a simple Anglican who sees what he sees.

  • Your comments just don't seem to be in what I would think to be in a Christian spirit imo. I was brought up respecting all faiths. Your comments about Methodists (and I am neither Anglican nor Methodists) just seem rather-insulting to that particular branch of the Christian fellowship. jmo

  • Jesus was I believe a Rightous Dude. And I don't think He would have thought your remarks about the Methodists to have been right on. jmo.

Many Faiths have borrowed hymns from each other-including Catholics from Protestants and vice versa. Why can't we just all enjoy them as any song should be without the negative vibes? I'm just saying..

  • In regard to the number of verses...in our Methodist hymnal...#7 is our #3...your #8 is our #5...and your #11 is our #6. I never knew there were so many verses. The Lutherans would sing all 11! lol Blessings to you Wayne and all your hard work to put out so many videos.

  • Thanks for viewing and your kind comments.

  • I have always liked this song. Good performance.

  • Thank you.

  • Very nice! Now, I'll be really impressed if you can do #196 from the hymnal of 1982!

    haha

    Good Luck!

  • You guys should do Faith of Our Fathers....that would sound great!

  • Very nice, one of my favorite hymns. How do you play in those big sleeves?

  • Very carefully! Actually, the large part of the sleeves of the vestments doesn't hang at my wrists, so it doesn't get in the way.

  • Lovely hymn - choir, congregation, organist.

  • Thank you for viewing and your kind comments.

  • I really like how well done the modernised lyrics have been written here. We've started doing it at our church, type in O Worship the King and it's the CCFHymns video

  • I only know of 8 verses. Look up President Ford's funeral on youtube. It's also a great recording of this hymn sung by the congregation at the National Cathedral (Saint Peter & Paul) in DC

  • 1) For all the saints, who from their labours rest, Who Thee by faith before the world confessed, Thy Name, O Jesus, be forever blessed. Alleluia, Alleluia!

    2) Thou wast their Rock, their Fortress and their Might; Thou, Lord, their Captain in the well fought fight; Thou, in the darkness drear, their one true Light. Alleluia, Alleluia!

    3) For the Apostles glorious company,

Who bearing forth the Cross oer land and sea, Shook all the mighty world, we sing to Thee: Alleluia, Alleluia!

  • 4) For the Evangelists, by whose blest word,

Like fourfold streams, the garden of the Lord, Is fair and fruitful, be Thy Name adored. Alleluia, Alleluia!

    5) For Martyrs, who with rapture kindled eye,

Saw the bright crown descending from the sky,

And seeing, grasped it, Thee we glorify. Alleluia, Alleluia!

    6) O blest communion, fellowship divine! We feebly struggle, they in glory shine; All are one in Thee, for all are Thine. Alleluia, Alleluia!

  • 7) O may Thy soldiers, faithful, true and bold, Fight as the saints who nobly fought of old, And win with them the victors crown of gold. Alleluia, Alleluia!

    8) And when the strife is fierce, the warfare long, Steals on the ear the distant triumph song, And hearts are brave, again, and arms are strong. Alleluia, Alleluia!

    9) The golden evening brightens in the west;

Soon, soon to faithful warriors comes their rest; Sweet is the calm of paradise the blessed. Alleluia, Alleluia!

  • 10) But lo! there breaks a yet more glorious day; The saints triumphant rise in bright array; The King of glory passes on His way.

    Alleluia, Alleluia!

    11) From earths wide bounds, from oceans farthest coast, Through gates of pearl streams in the countless host, And singing to Father, Son and Holy Ghost: Alleluia, Alleluia!

  • Very well done by everyone. The only difference I see in what my old church had and your church has is that we had a sixth verse added. I wonder how many verses there are to this one particular hymn, I am counting at least 8 so far.

  • Thank you. Eleven stanzas total. Hymnal editors decide how many they put in their hymnal - most don't put in all eleven.

  • I have heard many organists butcher this hymn making it too choppy and with uneven pedaling, but I have to say, this is one of the best jobs playing this hymn I've ever heard. Your own congregation testifies to this by how loud they're singing still on the 4th and 5th verses.

  • This song was planted here for me! lol In a time when i was down, i was able to read the words and hear and sing the glories of this blessing and your church. May god always shine upon you directing you down the path of holiness. I in no way could ask for anything else other than this song. It is my absolute fav.

Other than that its also when i realized why you keep the camera fuzzy to " to think of the music, the words and GOD!!

    THANKYOU THANKYOU THANKYOU
