Thanks Guys (queen) for a fabulous start to my life long music enjoyment!
first time I heard 5:49 - 6:11, I cried. this has to be the single most influential guitar solo I've ever heard. in those few moments, I heard the birth of Smashing Pumpkins and Jane's Addiction and most of the 90s alt rock movement that took this sound and built a fucking career out of it. all thanks to Brian Fucking May. one of the best bands out there to this day.
28 people just don't get that they have listened to the greatest guitar player in thw world... because he isn't showy and doesn't jump around and smash shit up. I love how he makes his Red Special sound like an orchestra of guitars all alone...
Mr May should get together with Brian Cox (another musician with a science-y interest) and buy the old London Planetarium (with the nice green dome) and restore it to it's former glory; they could write epic music for the shows too and give presentations. I'd pay to see that, as I was as pissed off as he was when that old planetarium shut.
@neneaodin Angus young can play the same thing for every song... But Brian May can play eight minute long solos and make each not better than the last... He can also play classical guitar, blues, and rock with incredible efficiency something that i'm not sure angus young could pull off.
@neneaodin You mother fucker! How could you honestly say that.. Brian May or Angus Young? OBVIOUSLY BRIAN MAY! Guitarist's from the 80's fucking worshiped the likes of May. I know everyone's due there point but lets face the facts Young is a fantastic guitarist in just that specific genre but Queen played so many styles over the years and May could still deliver a fucking awesome performance what ever genre he had to play in. If it wasn't for him Queen would never of been famous! MAY IS GOD!
@neneaodin Freddie Mercury is the only gay in the group and I'd appreciate if you showed more respect towards him. Do a little rechard before you post such insulting comments. What's the biggest difference between Queen and AC/DC? Queen's music had soul, it was based on feelings, love, happiness, friendship. AC/DC's music is nothing more than noise for those people addicted to headbanging and screams, they've done the exact same thing for the past 35 years.
@TheJumpyPopcorn - I agree! And as for the gay thing... Freddie was awesome despite it, and a few other influental musicians and singers who are alive root for the other team as well: Elton John, Lisa Coleman, and Joan Obsourne [who's actually openly bi], just off the top of my head.
@zbr76 The point is that Freddie was so perfect that stupid people who can't stand his talent have to pick up the excuse of him being gay. Freddie was and still is the best singer that has ever lived. And you're right about that, and Elton John is also a very talented man imo.
@TheJumpyPopcorn Fuck off about AC/DC. In my opinion, they (AC/DC and Queen) are quite probably the two greatest, most talented bands of any genre of music, ever. (including the stuff in the charts but it doesn't count as music)
@TheJumpyPopcorn Maybe you should show some respect to one the greatest rock n roll groups ever? no? AC/DC's music is based on feeling also, but hits different chords inside people! just because it isn't about love n happiness doesn't mean it doesn't have feeling. What an idiot
@bellers I'll show you all the respect to AC/DC and don't you call me an idiot please. I like AC/DC but comparing them with Queen...like I said...with Queen you cry because of love, you cry for friends, you cry for happiness..with AC/DC you don't really have much to feel, you just feel like rock n roll and headbanging, there's no love ballad, there's no friendship song, there's nothing that touches your heart. My opinion.
@TheJumpyPopcorn That's my opinion...rock music churns up different feelings and emotions. If I'm pissed off I'm not going to crank up flash am I? You don't have much to feel? Well if that was the case why would I be listening to it in the first place? Surely I must be feeling something whilst listening to music????
@bellers I didn't understand very well what you were trying to say. Queen is my all time fave band, they have it all. I'm not bashing that band or whatever it's just my bloody opinion, that's it. The only feeling I get from their music is exaltation, whereas with Queen it's different, if I'm pissed off I listen to Tie Your Mother Down, if I'm happy there's Don't Stop me Now and you have Love of my life, Boh Rhap, We Will Rock You, Champions, Days of our lives...
@TheJumpyPopcorn Your so right, but acdc is pretty cool though coool music i would say.... ueen is more sentimental... fuck... why wasnt i born 20 years ago FUCK
Brian May, in addition to using his home-made guitar that he put together himself when he was 16, he prefers to use coins (especially a sixpence) instead of a more traditional plastic pick, on the basis that their rigidity gives him more control in playing. He is known to carry coins in his pockets specifically for this purpose.
What's really neat it that not only is he an epic guitar player, he's also really smart, too. After Queen, he went back to college and got his PhD in astrophysics.
He just begins at 5:20 and then he ends at 6:50 then you think it's over but he starts again at 7:00 and he just ends to early, Brian May = awesome <3
Once my grandpa met Brian May. He sat next to him in a theatre or something. My grandpa was like "oh my god you're Brian May" and Brian was like "yeah". XD Brian's a pretty cool and friendly guy.
24 Haters that want to say they can play better. Brian May is the best, just the amazing amount of different sounds that come from his fingers and the Red Special!!!!
I love the feedback!!!! Thats one of the best things about the red special....Brian delibrately designed the guitar to create natural feedback (i.e. such as hollowing out the body of the guitar).
His Majesty, Brian May! The king! What a brilliant and open mind he is to creat so many great melodies, riffs and solos! I love his approach to the things, he is so dedicated to everything he makes. His perfectionism in the studio is well known, but he is a scientist after all. He must know that everything is perfect and clear! God bless you, Brian!
Stop comparing Brian to Jimmy or Jimi or Eddie or Nuno.... they're all special and got their own talent. Which is not the case of a lot of young nowadays guitarists. Brian got his voice, this amazing guitar that he's the only one to play this good.
@TaroGabunia Congratulations, you sound like an idiot. While Jimmy Page is fantastic, and Brian likes him, there's no need to compare them. It's apples and helicopters.
What i like about Brian compared with other rock guitarists is his command over his instrument. Most rockers tend to make a lot of crash sounds with their guitars, but Brian has the ability to do that, and to make it sound as elegant and delicate as a violin.
Brian May is classic old school, and fantastic, along with Uli Jon Roth and Matthas Jabs, but newish kids on the block, like that drunken rabble from Dragonforce - what stunning tallent. Love Brighton Rock - could air guitar away to it all day long.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Sorry But,,, Iv always thought Brian May a pop guitar player, who has in general been a weak rock guitarist, iv brought Queen albums, seen em live..great band, If it hadnt been for the great Freddie Murcury,, May & Co wouldnt have earned a bean, sorry Brian, your no great guitarist mate, !!!!
@HARRYHOOK79 your kidding right? he was very innovative and was able to play many different styles: rock, metal, prog, and many more. he is one of the most influential guitarists ever. what pop guitarist plays anything close to what he plays?
@pjcestenz Hi pjc, if you look at his guitar solos at live events, there poor, yea I agree very influential (band) but out of the studio, he stuggles against the more know talented guitarists, Im a Queen fan, so im not just kicking the guy for the hell of it, I brought Sheer Heart Attack in 74, and I thought he was great, but hes been left behind by the newer guitarist that have come since that time, A great guitarist can carry a band, but in his case, the band have carried him, ..
@HARRYHOOK79 I'm sorry if you disagree, but Queen would be terrible without Brian! Freddie is incredible, and Roger is brilliant, and John is fantastic, but you need the COMBINATION of the four to make the kind of magic Queen is. Brian comes up with beautiful melodies and ideas, and puts the RRRRRRR in ROCK for Queen, and they all bounced off him in their playing.
no hablamos d guitarristas d heavy metal o progresivo, chavos.... queen fue un grupo glam, lo k ven ustedes es un solo d GLAM... x fa ponganse a investigar antes d decir PENDEJADAS!!!!!
@KnightHawkWF It may be boring to you, but consider this--Brian is playing behind the light show, as opposed to just noodling around on the guitar. I love EVH as well, but it's unfair to compare one to the other. Totally different guitarists.
When I saw Queen for the first time live, I had never heard of them much, other than a song called Killer Queen. They were opening for Mott the Hopple. Brian May almost did not play for the concert because of illness. I am glad I got to see him. I became a big Queen fan that night. They did not have a weekness.
@DAVWAVE Hi DAVWAVE! Where did you see QUEEN? The concert you speak of is right around the time they played in my hometown. It is rumored that Brian May may have written part of "Now I'm Here" while stting on a park bench on the green in my hometown. I'm only eleven, but I love QUEEN!!!

Brian May is classic old school, and fantastic, along with Uli Jon Roth and Matthas Jabs, but newish kids on the block, like that drunken rabble from Dragonforce - what stunning tallent. Love Brighton Rock - could air guitar away to it all day long.

HARRYHOOK79 1 year ago
@HARRYHOOK79 your kidding right? he was very innovative and was able to play many different styles: rock, metal, prog, and many more. he is one of the most influential guitarists ever. what pop guitarist plays anything close to what he plays?
pjcestenz 1 year ago 16
@pjcestenz Hi pjc, if you look at his guitar solos at live events, there poor, yea I agree very influential (band) but out of the studio, he stuggles against the more know talented guitarists, Im a Queen fan, so im not just kicking the guy for the hell of it, I brought Sheer Heart Attack in 74, and I thought he was great, but hes been left behind by the newer guitarist that have come since that time, A great guitarist can carry a band, but in his case, the band have carried him, ..
HARRYHOOK79 1 year ago
@HARRYHOOK79 I'm sorry if you disagree, but Queen would be terrible without Brian! Freddie is incredible, and Roger is brilliant, and John is fantastic, but you need the COMBINATION of the four to make the kind of magic Queen is. Brian comes up with beautiful melodies and ideas, and puts the RRRRRRR in ROCK for Queen, and they all bounced off him in their playing.

BORING...didnt like it at all. eddie van halens eruption solo will still be the best in my mind
KnightHawkWF 1 year ago
@KnightHawkWF It may be boring to you, but consider this--Brian is playing behind the light show, as opposed to just noodling around on the guitar. I love EVH as well, but it's unfair to compare one to the other. Totally different guitarists.

When I saw Queen for the first time live, I had never heard of them much, other than a song called Killer Queen. They were opening for Mott the Hopple. Brian May almost did not play for the concert because of illness. I am glad I got to see him. I became a big Queen fan that night. They did not have a weekness.
DAVWAVE 1 year ago
@DAVWAVE Hi DAVWAVE! Where did you see QUEEN? The concert you speak of is right around the time they played in my hometown. It is rumored that Brian May may have written part of "Now I'm Here" while stting on a park bench on the green in my hometown. I'm only eleven, but I love QUEEN!!!
"Your matches still light up the sky
And many a tear lives on in my eye
Down in the city just Hoople and me
Don't I love him so don't I love him so?"
Cheers, Mini May
