I don't understand why you people are so sure about the existence of the hanging gardens of Babylon. There is actually no conclusive evidence of its existence, neither archaeologically, nor historically. It could very well be one more myth about the ancient world.
@ivapino Why not, it is reasonable. A king built a structure and then imported plants from across different regions. This is all completely possible with the technology of the time. And a rich king would have the money to do it.
@mrzim222 Huh im aware Persians are mostly Iranians today, but anyway; Iraq was built of MANY great empires, arabs was just one of them. All these empires mixed over thousands of years. Thats why in Iraq you get all sorts of races of people living there. Even though i consider my self an arab because of my family today. but you must relies once you are from iraqi.. you may NEVER know WHO your ancestors where because of the deep history and civilisations.
@imacceptingbut Hi, if someone of you want to know, the artist's name is: Loreena McKennitt. The song's title is: Marco Polo. The album's title is: The Book Of Secrets.
Tablets from Nebuchadnezzar era do not have any reference to the hanging gardens, although descriptions of palaces, walls and the city of Babylon are found. Modern historians believe that when Alexander's soldiers returned to the greece from babylon, they had stories to tell about Mesopotamian palaces, ziggurats, and it was the imagination of (3th bc) poets and historians that blended all these stories together to produce one of the world wonders.
@parandehdarya...funny! I thought the same thing...we don't hear about a lot of seismic activity in the Iraq area....now if the Gardens had been founded in Japan or California......
thats greattt!!! thank u sooo much for this video.. it is amazing.. i m soo proud of my ancestors and i really wish if i was living with them at that time..
The Hanging Gardens of Babylon were destroyed by a massive earthquake after the 2nd century BC. Strabo describes the gardens as being built around a sort of step pyramid, which was a common form or architecture in the Middle East at the time.Recently there have been excavations on the banks of the Euphrates River of some substantial 25 meter-thick walls. Some scattered seeds founded around the excavation area which proves that the Gardens did exist after all.
@rannumees When Persians invaded the Babylonian kingdom, they destroyed many things and this great civilisation was crumbled to pieces by the savages of Persia. But, most of the historical Babylonian resources state that they hanging gardens were destroyed by an earthquake.
WHy do you talk bullshit all the time???? Cyrus capture Babylon without a fight!!!! He did not destroy anything! he freed the slaves and gave the Babylonians freedom as well. In Achaemenid Persia, the ancient Babylonian arts of astronomy and mathematics were revitalised and flourished, and Babylonian scholars completed maps of constellations.
hanging gardens are imagination of Greek poets & historians!!! these gardens as being described never existed , stupid people are proud of something that 1- has nothing to do with them 2- has never existed !
@Mithradatesi as u say, u sud being a governor right now, are u? hahahah at least your name should appear in the names of the wise men in this world haha!
maybe my name Does appear among the wise men! And I suggest before giving a comment make some research. What I wrote is all Legitimately supported facts!
Such a shame there's still no good evidence the Hanging Gardens of Babylon actually existed. For one they are not mentioned by any contemporary historians and the descriptions by later historians is sketchy to say the least.
The Pyramids are clearly the best, building the other wonders must have been a cakewalk compared to the monumental task of building the pyramids.
Also the Pharos Lighthouse stood for 1600 years and worked well during most of this time.
choosykitten i know the story u see the iranian peple burned all of it a night i cant remember which time of year some judge was protecting the place but they had a deal with tge iranian and they burned all of it nothing left now not evena piece of ruin this is why we have war iraq vs iran and israel xD hope you understand
I don't know why you ppl keep bashing Islam. You're here to appreciate the artwork aren't you? Not here to slander someones religion. Besides, Islam hascontributed much, renaissance would never have come had muslim scholars not preserved many (almost all) of the ancient texts. What about today? Whose destroying these beautiful places in Iraq? *cough* america. Who burned down the library in Alexandria? Seriously just admire the beauty of what we once had and what was gained when one thing was lost
Middle easterners were among the smartest in ancient time, and the religion just ruins everything. I wish they look back to their own history and heritage and think "What have happened to us?"
It was the same people who later became Muslims that created that beautiful city and created the first civilization in the world. ISLAM destroyed that beautiful nation of Mesopotamia, not Muslims.
Yazz you point is valid but babybolon and hanging gardans stands 400 years after its earcting time, so I havet have the full knowlege but I guess it stayed at the time of Crist. the second reason it stayed quite long is that when Iranians, captured the land its a history that the city was kept intacted ....
At 1:37, you mentioned that children were Christened at the centrepool. May I just clarify that the Hanging Garden was built 600BC. So, the purpose of the centrepool was mainly for something else as Christianity did not exist during that era.
fuck that i just buy my wife flowers from the Shell station :P
