You know whats funny...this game was damn near a launch title for the PS2 that was ported from the N64 and yet it looks and sounds better than Hard Corps: Uprising and this is coming from a guy who likes that game.

@shannonstamey The newer model PS3's do not play PS2 games. If you get one of the older model PS3s (the 60 gig and I think the 40 and 20 gig models), then you can play PS2 games. There are rumors, however that Sony may be releasing an add-on later that allows you to play PS2 games, or that they may run them through emulation, but they are just rumors so far.
Talking about PS, I'm finally going to get a PS2 for the collection myself.
I always had Xbox1, but not a PS2 as I didn't see the point (less prog scan). But through your videos, and some peoples PS2 collections, I will now get one.
I realized that PS2 had so many of those 3d beat-em ups, and hack and slash games, lots of support from the top JP companies, XB1 had little of these...
I'm Gonna force prog scan where I can. Can't wait :D.

@Nightridergamer I can't remember, is this game a blue disk game? Some PS2's have trouble with blue disks. The blue disks are CDs instead of DVDs. Not sure how you fix it, but my friend's PS2 was having trouble reading cds, and his door jammed, so I opened it up, fixed the door, and cleaned the laser lens with a q-tip lightly doused in rubbing alcohol. it now reads blue disks. Try playing it in a different PS2.

@tyron2345 No, I meant that this Contra, Shattered Soldier, seems more like a Metal Slug game than a Contra game. Don't get me wrong, I like Contra, but this one just seems to have deviated quite far from the original games.

@tyron2345 This one is more fast paced, as apposed to the original and Super C. Its more along the lines of Hard Corps. But its very one dimensional, where as the original games have a sorta vertical element, this one is more of a strait push forward. Its still fun, but I would recommend Hard Corps on the Genesis.
I know this is a strange issue, but every video I've watched for this game has the sound effects on really loud.. and I love Contra's adrenalizing music. Is it possible to turn down the sound effects a little via options menu?

It's in a way more important to me to get the information about a game out than to have a great played vid of it. I'll save the perfect run vids for those who have the patience for them.

This game was released back in 2002, it was a day one purchase for me and to this day I can't get to the very last level which can only be reached by playing the game in normal and without cheats, I have to say it's the most difficult PS2 game I have ever played, it requires a lot of memorization specially in the later levels, this is hardcore Contra at its best.
Oddly for PS2, the only thing that makes Contra's GamePlay became really odd is because the Hit Rate System, where you must blow up certain objects and certain enemies and make sure you didn't die to get the best rank and watch the true final stage & ending
they don´t do games likem this anymore, I remember when I won Mortal Kombat trilogy for the first time, 12 hours playing, but damn you feel awesome when you beat a hard core game, the harder it is the more rewarding its when you beat it
Great game. Still hard as hell but very rewarding, which can't be said for many games out now. Just wish another one like this would come out on 360 or PS3, instead of getting part 4 on the DS or Rebirth on Wiiware.
And no, I do not count Neo Contra. Hated that game, even though it was better than Legacy of War and The Contra Adventure.

Contra 4 was awesome, I have yet to play rebirth, but I would like to see an HD release of Contra like you said. Kind of like what Capcom did to Bionic Commando.

For you guys who mention the Easy difficulty level: in this game, it's more of a hoax than an actual difficulty level. Unless you are on Normal difficulty, you can't enter levels 6 and 7, so you can't beat the game.
IMO, if you ever want to beat the game (or just have more fun), just play Normal from the beginning. It's hard, but that's what makes this game fun.

Only the 60gb and 80gb, and some 20gb model is backward compatible. 40gb and most 20gb and the rest, do not play ps2 and psx games.

In particular, I do remember this stage. Seeing that robot smashed by the mutated turtle..then having the turtle turn around and have a mutated baby backside was...memorable..lol.

Anyone who has the mindset that they are entitled to everything in life for free are worthless. They have no value even in anarchy, because they have no use.
In the very least, those "drones" who work for the things they want, would still hold value as workers.

I play games, Ive even bought some in the past too... i do have fun once in a while and really had get some enjoyment out of them today. But "YOU face it!" Entertainment is just a distraction from the real problems in the world and keeps you from accomplishing nothing. Most games have no great message to tell to other than Deus Ex, System Shock 2, and Fallout1&2.

This game was released back in 2002, it was a day one purchase for me and to this day I can't get to the very last level which can only be reached by playing the game in normal and without cheats, I have to say it's the most difficult PS2 game I have ever played, it requires a lot of memorization specially in the later levels, this is hardcore Contra at its best.

Oddly for PS2, the only thing that makes Contra's GamePlay became really odd is because the Hit Rate System, where you must blow up certain objects and certain enemies and make sure you didn't die to get the best rank and watch the true final stage & ending

they don´t do games likem this anymore, I remember when I won Mortal Kombat trilogy for the first time, 12 hours playing, but damn you feel awesome when you beat a hard core game, the harder it is the more rewarding its when you beat it

Great game. Still hard as hell but very rewarding, which can't be said for many games out now. Just wish another one like this would come out on 360 or PS3, instead of getting part 4 on the DS or Rebirth on Wiiware.
And no, I do not count Neo Contra. Hated that game, even though it was better than Legacy of War and The Contra Adventure.

For you guys who mention the Easy difficulty level: in this game, it's more of a hoax than an actual difficulty level. Unless you are on Normal difficulty, you can't enter levels 6 and 7, so you can't beat the game.
IMO, if you ever want to beat the game (or just have more fun), just play Normal from the beginning. It's hard, but that's what makes this game fun.
