Well Toni is obviously better. Mariah had a time in her career where she could sing but she can't sing anymore. Toni has battled through Lupus, a Petite Heart, High Blood Pressure, and Heart disease, but then again she can still BLOW.! I think Mariah should've been a contralto singer than a soprano cuz when she goes high she sounds very uncomfortable and sounds screech and sounds like she is forcing too hard. I think she was trying to outdo Whitney by trying to sing high and she was trying to outdo Toni on the lower registers and she both failed. Toni and Whitney two better singer than Mariah Carey but to be fair she's damn skilled.

I'll pick Mariah. She has more variety and diversity - versatility, in terms of vocals. Both does wield stupendous vocal prowess, but I'd say Mariah triumps Braxton in the higher ranges, but she does possess a pretty remarkable grasp of lower register (see My All). But that aside, I love them both! Two outstanding women with brimming talent!

Well Toni actually has clear diction with her low notes, Mariah is more breathy because her high notes caused strain because other than Mimi Riperton she doesn't transcend into the whistle register. I think both of these ladies are amazing singers, they just have vocal strenght in particular areas. Toni has that mid- lower range sound and strenght, Mariah that upper mid to high range strenght. I think because of that you get a variation that i think makes their music wonderful, at least to me :).

So it's a little bit difficult for us to determine who's actually a better singer.. I tend to know the facts before I open my mouth, which is more than what I can say about you. I think Mariah should've been a contralto singer than a soprano cuz when she goes high she sounds very uncomfortable and sounds screech and sounds like she is forcing too hard. I think she was trying to outdo Whitney by trying to sing high and she was trying to outdo Toni on the lower registers and she both failed. Toni and Whitney two better singer than Mariah Carey but to be fair she's damn skilled.

This is a ridiculous comparison since Mariah is a soprano who is singing in her lower register with a microphone, and it is breathy. Her best sound is in the higher register.
Toni Braxton is a true contralto, as is Karen Carpenter, Della Reese, Dianne Reeves, Sarah Vaughn, for other examples. They can sing high, but the richness is in the low notes. True contraltos are not common. Most women are sopranos, but aren't usually super high sopranos.

I'll pick Mariah. She has more variety and diversity - versatility, in terms of vocals. Both does wield stupendous vocal prowess, but I'd say Mariah triumps Braxton in the higher ranges, but she does possess a pretty remarkable grasp of lower register (see My All). But that aside, I love them both! Two outstanding women with brimming talent!

Let's set the record straight! SERIOUSLY..... I have all of Mariah's records as well as Toni, however, I do not rate an artist by their album sales. If that were the case Rihanna and Ga Ga would out-beat a lot of real talented singers. You cannot compare these two because they are amazing within their own rights. Well Toni actually has clear diction with her low notes, Mariah is more breathy because her high notes caused strain because other than Mimi Riperton she doesn't transcend into the whistle register. She stops singing and then hits it. I love them both always have but personally I think they're totally different. They both are great!

I think both of these ladies are amazing singers, they just have vocal strenght in particular areas. Toni has that mid- lower range sound and strenght, Mariah that upper mid to high range strenght. I think because of that you get a variation that i think makes their music wonderful, at least to me :).

Toni hands down for a live performance. A lot of Mariah fans can say what they want about toni's voice but they have different sounds and Toni doesn't sound like a man.
