@HighIncidentBandit simple. the Russians are close to finishing their Mars ship research but as usual the yanks cant do anything unless they control it and ultimately over engineer it to the point where it is so big and expensive that it cant be done. Korelov was a genius and kept it as simple, reliable and safe as it could be but the reality is that the US cant take a back seat to real space pioneers.
