  • 10mm is between the 357 mag and the 44mag

  • yep...YOU ~ ROCK ! !

  • I know I am a bit late but I didn't know these were even around for a 10mm. I carry either a 1911 or a 44mag depending on where I am hunting or just carrying. This makes me rethink the 10mm for both bear and "bad ppl" Recoil has been mentioned for the 10mm but I don't see a problem. Thanks Hickok for yet another great video.

  • @ReillysLaw You can get 1911's in 10mm.

  • @Hickok45 Im a little bit afraid about slide slapping (delta elite), when shooting so heavy Bullets, do you think i need to put in a heavyer recoilspring?

  • @theroyalgrapefruit they make heavier springs for 10mm 1911's.

  • HAHA! too true about youtube morons that pick shit apart. Youtube PhD's I call them. after 45k video views, you get a YT masters.

  • thank you. enough info to help me in my purchase decision.

  • i want a G20 soooo bad...

  • Thanks for testing that hickok ! I was wondering about that.

  • You are my hero. College student in MD, own a couple of shotguns. Someday I will live in a reasonable state and be as cool of a guy as you are.

  • How to handle Trolls...Comment Section of hickok45 vid

  • I was wondering about accuracy from a Lone Wolf barrel, now im sold!

  • Hickok, you are a dangerous man.

  • whats the cost of a lone wolf barrel please

  • @red88ization $80-$120 at a gun show.

  • @corndoggydawg thanks it seams to make a BIG improvement.

  • I wonder if there is a difference in twist rate between the barrels? From what i understand heavier, longer bullets need a higher twist rate to stabilize.

  • I believe you are getting the keyholing (tumbling) with the stock Glock barrel because it either a) has too slow a rifling twist, or b) because it's polygonal instead of having standard groove-and-land rifling.

    Nice explanation.

    I carry a 10mm S&W 1006 for protection against two-legged varmints.

  • As far as I know the Danish army is armed with a glock 20 in 10 mm when patrolling Greenland because they need to defend themselves against polar bears.

  • Hickok, Can you do a comparison between a hot 357 round and the hot 10mm round?

  • You can tell those are quick, the gong rings right away! Nice video, thanks!!

  • can you get 44 magnum Armor piercing?

  • Dude! You didn't say life is good...

  • hickok45 = GOD!!!!!!!

  • hickok im thinking of buying a 10mm but i dont know if i want a 20 or 29 im gonna use it for hunting

  • @kennibran 20 is easier to hit with, so I would say that. Longer sight radius and heavier gun will always be easier to connect with.

  • Thanks for this great video! I've been interested in the 10mm for wilderness defense for a few years now (Including for Alaska), and BB as well as DT rounds have naturally caught my eye as well (As has the LW barrel). My Old Man has a sweet Smith & Wesson .357 Magnum that is great for wilderness protection, but it's a family heirloom that he'll later pass on down to me; in the meantime, the 10mm is very interesting (I know of Bush Pilots packing the Glock 20's/29's as well).

  • I could be wrong, but I think the factory barrel has tighter rate of twist than the LW barrel (10ish vs 16ish?). Given that, I guess it'd have to be rifling contact like you said earlier. Pretty interesting. Really enjoy your videos.

  • @damian13531, They only paid me to block jealous trolls who make accusations. :-)

  • @hickok45 hickok45.

    you are the man

  • @damian13531 I have Storm Lake and it's the same with it - fully supported chamber, stainless and standard rifling - both good barrels. Hickock rules!

  • skip to 10:53 then the shooting starts ;P

  • @Norpyrocrew, Better yet, skip the whole video and you won't be so bored! :-)

  • @Norpyrocrew or just go somewhere else...there are plenty crap vids of kids plinking...

  • 10mm is better than 45ACP

  • Also if you're thinking about carrying a handgun for a bear, DONT.

To reliably take down a bear you'll need a rifle or a shotgun with some serious slugs.

There is no handgun that can reliably kill an average bear. Yes there have been bears killed by handguns but there have been far more that shot and later were turned in bear scat.

  • @wtfdudenotcool101 The point is that a sidearm is utilized as a defensive weapon, and it's something you can always have on you. If I want to assuredly knock a bear on its rump, I'll bring along a Marlin 336 chambered in .35 Remington, but unless I'm out on a dedicated trip into notorious bear country or the wilds in general, then there is a good chance that I probably won't be packing it.

  • @GUMMYBEAYUH Did you mean to reiterate exactly what I said?

If you don't need to kill bears don't take a gun that will kill it but don't act like there's any handgun round ever made that will reliably take down a bear.

That's what my point was. Not sure what yours is...

  • what would be more powerful a 9mm,10mm or a .45 acp

  • @x11xCod well they do have a sorta wildcat round that has came out for a semi and you might want to look at .460 rowland.

  • @x11xCod YGet a 9mm +P hollow points and you'll have twice the ammo easier follow up shots and almost identical wound channel to .45 +P.

  • You're my favorite person on youtube!

  • if there is ever a shortage of lead mines i know where they can open one if they ask mr. hickok really nicely

  • YOU KNOW I WANT TO WISH HICKOK45 A HAPPY HOLIDAY AND NEW YEAR TO COME. I AM A 41 YEAR OLD SOLDIER IN THE US ARMY, I WANT TO TELL THE WORLD THAT HICKOK " ROCKS " I WISH YOU THE BEST IN LIFE, AND PRAY FOR YOU TO CONTINUE TO MAKE MORE VIDEOS FOR YOUR FANS. IN THIS TIME OF UNCERTAIN JOBS SECURITY. MANY PEOLE LIKE MYSELF WANT TO BUY OUR DREAM GUNS AND CANT AFFORD TO GET THEM, DUE TO LACK OF FINANCES.. BUT YOUR VIDEOS KEEPS US CONTENT, UNTIL WE CAN AFFORD THEM.. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR TIME !!

  • @FREDNELSON100 turn off Caps Lock, kid.

  • @FREDNELSON100 STOP IT, YOU DIRTY ASS-CLOWN!

  • SO AS I Was Saying MR. Hickok45, I LIKE YOUR STYLE, AND I HAVE BEEN DEALING WITH FIREARMS FOR OVER 25 YEARS, AND NOW THAT I HAVE DEPLOYED TO IRAQ TWICE I HAD TO SELL MY GUNS AFTER I GOT STATIONED IN GERMANY.. AND I LOVE TO SHOOT. IT IS A FAVORITE HOBBY OF MINE. SO NOW THAT I AM IN FORT HOOD TEXAS, I HAVE MOVED UP TO THE GLOCK 21 SF 3RD GEN.. AND I LOVE IT. 45.CAL ROCKS. I WISH I HAD THE MONEY TO SET MYSELF UP LIKE YOU, WHERE I COULD SHOOT ALL TIME. YOUR SET UP IS NICE.. NEXT ON MY LIST 10MM.

  • HEY Hickok45 , Wow I Love Your Videos, I AM A SOLDIER IN THE US ARMY. AND WITH A HISTORY OF LAW ENFORCEMENT. SO I HAVE BEEN DEALING WITH GLOCKS FOR OVER 15 YEARS.. I USE TO CARRY THE 9MM SIG-SAUER ON DUTY IN DETROIT P228, THEN WHEN I HAD A SHOOTING INCIDENT WHERE I HAD TO PROTECT MYSELF AND MY GIRL FRIEND AT THE TIME. I SURVIVED THE SHOOTING BUT I DID NOT FILL TOTALLY SAFE.. SO AFTER THAT I STARTED CARRYING THE GLOCK 22 /40 CAL. AND I FELT SAFE WITH 15 RNDS. OF SILVER TIPS & GOLDEN SABER. CONT

  • Ah good call, lol I was just reading about that too, as I own an hk p30 which like the glock has a polygonal rifled barrell. Non jacketed bullets are no beuno

  • So glock cant make an accurate barrell? Makes that 550 seem a little more pricey

  • @vdub5818 No Glock can't make a barrel that fires one particular type of cast bullet (which they say upfront don't work well) in one caliber accurately. Actually I'm sure they could make one if that was an important enough reason to.

  • I still like my old 44mag six shooter don't jam and just need six lol but like the video thanks for the info

  • im allways goin' for penetration! lol

  • @nickpowell1995 lol. ima use that

  • How to trap/locate Hickok45

    1. spread a trail of .45 ACP

    2. Enter the hill of Nashville, TN

    3. listen for handgun rapid fire

    4. Find a red honda element

    5. Grab a 1911 and join him

  • Great video, I haven't heard anyone comment on Cast Bullets using a ported barrel, can you use cast bullets on these barrels?

  • Have you tested these with the Lone Wolf 6in (non-ported) ? I just ordered one and I have not seen any tests with it yet.

  • so say again what you advise to use with 10mm? the stock barrel or aftermarket?

  • @timsgta Well, I'd say if all the barrels are the same as what he has, if you're looking for longer range accuracy, use the Lone Wolf aftermarket barrel. If you don't care much about accuracy (I don't know why anyone would not care about accuracy...), then keep the stock Glock barrel in.

Again, that's assuming all barrels act just like the ones he had with those specific bullets being fired out of them. Individuals might have differing results though, so it all depends.

  • @Northax The Glock barrel is plenty accurate, it's just not designed for cast bullets.

  • @Imjony5 That's why I added the bit about the specific bullets in this video. You're right. :-)

  • Dude, how much is one single bullet?

  • @insaneguyXP if you buy in bulk of 500, its $440, so $0.88 a round (not factoring shipping), more if you don't buy in bulk.

  • @insaneguyXP I believe he said for each Double Tap bullet he bought it cost him about $1 each; that's also counting the cost of shipping and handling.

  • Awesome video as usual. I am just outside of Knoxville and a huge Glock fan. I rely heavily on your videos for information and inspiration for the sport. Thanks again Hickok!

  • I think the .500 S&W with a shorter barrel, to go in your backpack, would be pretty effective against a bear. Pretty sure bear skin aint as thick as a lawnmower haha

  • 10mm best autoloading cartridge made. Too bad to carry them outside the house I am paranoid about overpenatrating a person.

  • @LiveFreeOrDie1985

When walking around the town or city, carry hollow point bullets so they'll expand inside the perps body. Probably 180 grain bullets.

Carry FMJ (Full Metal Jacket) bullets in the woods / mountains for good bear defense, for deeper, more solid penetration. Probably 200 to 230 grain.

  • im really wanting to get a 10mm pistol, and have been looking at a g20, but the kind of shooting i want to do would consist of a bunch of offhand shooting at a 20 yard indoor range. I would, however, want my pistol to be able to perform when i go to the outdoor range. I have read the 10mm have awsome ballistics even out to 100 yards, and i would want to be doing some shooting from a rest at 50-100 yards with my pistol. i was wondering if the g20 would be capable of grouping accuratley?

  • @Heminick67 I've done some shooting with my .357 SIG Glock 31, and the ballistics are somewhat similar to the 10mm Auto. The grouping at 100 yards is reasonable from a bench, I can hit a 6x6 square and I'm not that great of a pistol shot.

  • You should check out the 10mm double tap Equalizer. Its a imposed load that stack a hollow point on top of a lead ball. A guy at the range was shooting it out of his EAA witness. each lead ball did seem to hit 1 inch high above the hollow point as promised by the manufacturer.

  • what is the point of the hard cast bullets vs hollow points or standard jacketed ammo?

  • @LiberalsArePigs because it doesnt have the same stopping power of some of the other double tap loads.

  • *Note to self, get Lone Wolf barrel for my 17...*

  • สุดยอด

  • Voice of experiance trust me

  • yeah i was about to say hexagonal type barrels usally hate heavy loads

  • Comment removed

  • "to me that looks like a pretty good, uh... let me shoot a couple more..." - @15:48 classic hickok45!

  • why only 480p???? did we get spoiled with 1080p?? lol

  • having never shot this type of round what was the difference in the barrels and what is leading (if that is correct)?

  • Once again great Video! Thx

  • Would there be a disadvantage with the threading on the lone wolf barrel with the non lead cast bullets? In other words wouldn't it make sense to just keep the lone wolf for all shooting?

  • ....you will be dinner...... rofl!!!!!!!

  • Hey hickok, I just purchased a Glock 20 for home protection and as a trail gun for defense against black bears.

Which round would you recommend for home defense?

And which would you recommend for bear defense? (Are these 230 grains the best with a Lone Wolf barrel?)

I've checked the gun forums, and they all say different things.

I'd really appreciate it if you could help a guy out.

Money is no issue. For self-defense I don't care if the rounds are expensive.

    Thanks a million in advance.

  • Hickok, I noticed at around 6:14 the slide went into battery by itself just by you tapping a loaded magazine in place ,is that normal?

  • @TACTICALCHICKENSTRIP Yeah, that is weird. He must have tapped it hard enough to jimmy the slide stop. Nice catch!

  • Did you just bend that first ram? Damn those things are fast!

  • I just found your channel bout a week ago and you are my new hero your vids make my day and the info you give will be used well.I love my glock 10 mm and your vids are the best on you tube. Thanks and take care

  • .454 Casull is a round, not a gun.

Ruger Super Redhawk Alaskan and S&W 460V are a couple guns that chamber the .454 Casull.

  • those .454 casulls are freakin awesome guns

  • can i be your son.please.

  • you know what i love about this guy.he doesnt claim to be any expert.hes just a guy haven fun. from ireland keep on shooten.

  • It's really nice of Buffalo Bore to make these. You figure after casting with the gas check and essentially loading by hand, a dollar a shot after shipping is really quite reasonable. Thanks for showing this!!!!

  • @snoeplow, They are from Double Tap.

  • @hickok45 What is your opinion on Buffalo Bore? Are they reliable enough to carry?

  • @snoeplow These are Double Tap, but yeah, price isn't bad at all for a load that can equal a .41 Magnum and even some high end/lower power .44 Magnum Bear loads. If I don't have a rifle/shotgun, then I'll take 15+1 or (10+1 where I live) of hot'n heavy 10mm with the ability to reload in 2 sec over .44 Mag. 2-4 hits with 10mm > 1-2 hits with .44 Mag.

Hickok - Any chance you could try out some 9x25 Dillon rounds from your G20, and/or 40 Super from your G21?

  • @seventhSabra Yeah, I 2nd that about the 9x25 Dillon. It's a crazy hot little firecracker of a round and i would love to see you play around with it. im sure you know more about it then i do. but for everyone else, you can think of it as a 357 sig magnum... with a drop in barrel you can shoot if out of any glock 20 or 29. 115gr at 17500-1900fps.... what are your thoughts about it as a self defence round. other then the kick and sound of the round, strictly on balistics and man stopping power?

  • @madtoonage I'd need to see some data on 9mm Dillon as a defense round. It's almost 2x the KE of .357 Sig. A 9mm bullet moving at rifle velocity (~2100fps) could over penetrate before it got a chance to expand. I think it's just a super high end target round.

I use DT Barnes Tac XP in 10mm, .45 Auto out of my G30SF or .357 Sig, .40 in my G33 for defense against anything on 2 legs and most things on 4 legs.

  • I'm literally waiting on you to do another g20 video using swampfox and buffalo bore loads, just not enough 10mm videos on youtube, plus you do great videos.

  • I love how he looks back at 6:25 after hitting the pig, haha. He's like "Yeah, thats right" lol

  • hahahahaha "pretty funny huh" hickok your crazy man

  • i like this gun alot.. i have one, but i tell you, it is the worst at making a man flinch.. as shown by your first couple shots, you jerked the trigger quite a bit.

its very hard to not jerk the trigger with this gun.. idk what the difference is.. I can rapid fire a 9mm and hit every shot.. ive had more practice with it but still.

  • Haha, 9:26 was funny.

  • Hey Hickok, Do you notice any brass bulge after you fire 10mm through your glock?

Is there a barrel out there that overcomes this?

  • Bear? I'll stick with my 12 ga. w/slugs. 44 mag. Ruger Redhawk back up. Black bear? a 30-30 will do the trick, 357 mag. will too.

  • a dollar a shot? man my 30 06 cost less than that lol. harder to conceal tho. good vid.

  • What-are you on a diet? 0:16

  • why can't you shoot cast bullets with glock stock barrel?

  • @kembrabug it leads the barrel :S

  • Have you ever tried the 9x25 dillon barrel in your glock 20 ?

  • Comment removed

  • Glock hand!

  • hey gret vids just wondering what powder you use for those 10mm hand loads

  • The most amazing place to shoot ever!!

  • Han Solo would carry a Glock 20

  • what lone wolf barrel do you have it almost looks like stainless having trouble locating one similar to yours

  • It's ironic the FBI decided the 10mm had too much recoil for the average officer and yet you handle it very well.

The stock barrel should have done better, I was surprised by the inaccuracy of it.

I guess it wouldn't be wise to hide behind a cement block wall if someone has that big, bad 10mm aimed at it.

  • hickok45 . i am from iraq and i am a big fan . thank u for the good videos

  • Some of your best shooting!! Looked just like the rest of us up to about 6:26. Maybe I should look into one of those Lone Wolf barrels...and a steadier set of hands.

  • Double Tap loads the 10mm in a 200gr hardcast. I think that might be a shorter bullet and because of it's lesser length, be less likely to tumble. What's your thinking on that?

  • @andrelemalle , Don't know; I'd like to try them sometime.

  • @hickok45 I'm guessing that the 230gr should key-hole even MORE in a G29 with a standard, Glock, factory barrel. If you have any more of the Double Tap 230gr you might be able to check that out. I don't have a Glock 10MM barrel. I am waiting for a KKM conversion bbl for my G30. I will keep my bullet weights at, or below, 200gr.

  • @andrelemalle, I check them in my G29; they did about the same time. Once a bullet is tumbling at just a few yards, there's really no "worse," I guess. It's like throwing rocks. :-)

  • @hickok45 Handgun bullets tumbeling in just a few yards? Thats odd, ive never heard of that. It must be because of the heavy bullet out of the shorter barrel. The only way around that is shooting lighter bullets or getting an aftermarket barrel with a tighter twist rate, and i dont think the later is possible.

Interesting none the less, take care.

  • @Southern661, Wouldn't be the length; they tumble in the Glock barrel that is the same length as the Lone Wolf barrel that does just fine with them. It has to be the rifling and/or diameter of the barrel, or bullet.

  • @hickok45 I also think it is probably the rifling of the stock barrel. I think the octagonal rifling can not get enough 'bite' on the lead bullet to stabilize it enough before it leaves the barrel. The Wolf barrel with the normal/standard rifling obviously can get the bullet to 'spin' and stabilize.

  • @hickok45 Speaking of which I love glocks I have a Glock 19 9mm, BUT I am looking potentially for a glock to carry hiking in the woods for bear protection. What's your take on 10mm against seriously stopping a bear hickok45? Like the ammo you just displayed? I'm assuming that, that ammo is also safe with a Glock? So do you think that's fair bear protection, does it have enough penetration power to stop a bear? Thanks for your help Hikcok45. (I ask this because I've never fired a 10mm).

  • Un-Scientific but Scien-Terriffic!

I use the same shoulder-as-riflestock stance as you.

guessing you're an engineer or educator

Bet you'll shoot even better wearing Boots!

  • Wow, the 10mm round looks like a magnum-like slug!

  • I wold think that for a 10mm , you would want at least a 5 inch barrel.

  • @frankgon4 Glock makes a 6in. bbl... Lone Wolf I believe, also makes a 6in. Check w/ Midway USA. I'll be looking into it myself.

  • do you use a stainless guide rod and special recoil spring with the lonewolf barrel?

  • Very nice! Thanks for the video. Great shooting!

  • I bought a Lone Wolf barrel for my Glock 29 to handle these rounds. Problem solved.

  • Ok maybe not 'scientific', but very informative and very real. Thank you for this well made video, this is better than TV.

  • Thank you for the time you invest and the money you spend on ammo for all of us. I really respect your input! I will keep watching. . Rich

  • What do you think about a 10mm conversion barrel in a G30? I do carry in AK and MT. Until recently I've been carrying custom loads in my 4" S&W 500mag. I don't need to tell you, it is one heavy revolver. I shoot .45acp in 3 of my non-Glock pistols and was considering getting a G30. I know that Lone Wolf & KKM, both make 10mm conversion barrels for the G30.Might be a lighter, andhigher round count option to my 500. Opinion please??

  • that's why i dont like 10mm.accuracy/reliability fails!

  • @gerry02061971, With almost all ammo, they are extremely accurate and reliable. It's only this heavy cast bullet in stock barrel.

  • @hickok45 thanks 4 the info.maybe i just really dont know 10mm.in my own opinion,1911 .45 cal. is still the best option.am one of ur subscribers.i got .45 cal hi cap.i enjoy watching your videos.keep it up.MABUHAY!!

  • @hickok45 looks like u where using the standard glock plastic sights complete garbage get some trijicon hds and or any other quality steel sights and get rid of those plastic slot fillers.

  • is that a stock barrel or an after market barrel?

  • I heard people have removed bullets from DoubleTap and they don't meet claims. That 230gr may actually only be 200 or so.

What would one use these for and where does the 10mm fall on your list of favorites?

  • Thanks. I was trying to decide what aftermarket barrel to get for my new glock 20c. Now I know. LONE WOLF

  • I disagree with what Hickock says about the 10mm being enough to take down a charging brown bear. His point is that if you hit it in the right place, it will be sufficient. But you have to have time to aim. Look up what happened to Greg Brush in Soldotna, Alaska on Aug. 2 of 2009. The 900 lb.bear came exploding out of the woods from only 20 yds. with zero warning and he dropped it with 3 three rounds from a .454 Casull, no time to aim. It was that huge, heavy caliber that saved his life.

  • @superhornet69 , Geez, I must not have watched this video for a long time; I don't recall him saying the 10mm is enough to take down a "charging brown bear." I would not even trust 100% my .45-70 Guide Gun. :-)

  • @hickok45 Well to his credit, Hickok does not actually say, "a charging brown bear" but he does say the 10mm would be enough to take down a grizzly. I suppose that is true, I mean I know of a guy that killed a charging grizzly sow in Montana with a 20 gauge shotgun while he was bird hunting. My point is, especially after having lived in Kodiak, Alaska, as far as a bear pistol, I would trust my life to nothing less than a .44 Mag. But then that is just me. Like he says...personal preference.

  • @hickok45 ...And I really do enjoy your videos, you have a ton of knowledge and wisdom and I hope you continue to pass it on here and keep up the great work! May you guys have an awesome new year.

  • @superhornet69 You need to be accurate with ANY round to drop a bear......

  • @superhornet69 <-----Some people must watch these videos with the sound off, and narrate themselves.

  • @superhornet69 If you hit the bear with a 105mm round in the leg or shoulder it might not go down! Shot placement is very important.

    The same with a human. If they are hopped up on drugs even a fatal head / heart hit might not work. {unless you get the brain stem}

A 22 cal in the brain stem of a bear or human could do the trick!

Look at the Miami shoot out with the FBI. Read the details.

  • what do you do for a living what did you do before

  • lol nice lame joke at the beginning hickok

  • I just want to say this, and I think I speak for everyone who subscribes to your vids, I think your vids are amazing and you give really good info and action with a multitude of semi-auto's and revolvers. Thank you for creating something worth watching. :)

  • are glock 20 mags capatible with glock 29's?

  • +1 on the Spyderco blade! & thanks for all the great video's Hickok.

  • Any word on a compact from glock? Not sub compact

  • you have an awesome Compound Mr. Hickok. i kind of feel jealous haha, great video :)

  • Which is stronger this or a 45 acp

  • @Lubotsulat

10mm is a tad shy of the 41 Magnum, it's much more powerful than the .45 ACP.

  • @Lubotsulat 10 mm auto is stronger

  • JEEZ the 10mm is FLATTENING those steel animals. I've never seen any other pistol round hit so hard on the hickok compound.

  • Wonder if Hickok has an opinion on EAA Witness pistolas?

  • @cosmicdingo , I don't own one, but they have a good reputation, as far as I know.

  • My first 10mm was a Colt I bought in 1990. Back then, the preferred round was a 200 grain JTC, moving around 1200 fps. That was a very accurate round, and had plenty of stopping power. I carried it in the bush all the time. I'll never understand why the 10mm faded out the way it did. It just seems like the best all around auto cartridge out there.

  • what caliber would you say is close to a 10mm in recoil
