This is a young Bea Williams (I always thought she was beautiful); and there's the woman from "Coming to America" on the subway that says, "I'll marry you." to Eddie Murphy's character, what is her name? I've seen the movies of Ossie and Alan this young, but the others, I saw and didn't know them.
okay I never realized this was made into a movie... not the same without the songs, but wow Ossie Davis was handsome. I don't know who played Charlie on the stage but Alan Alda's southern twang almost nails it except for the NY accent, lol- gotta love it.

I don't know if it's the same production that you're thinking of, but Alan also played Charlie in the original stage production.
