They're both essentially stock rigs from the same vehicle family and weigh nearly the same, except my rig has a locker. As you can see my tires did not help his rig. At no point does the explorer ever lift a wheel like my B2 does and neither rig was dragging on the ground. It's a very fair comparison.
@HahnsB2 My truck would put both of them to shame. And I am far from ignorant. I am a HUGE Ford fan, and I know exactly how they compare to each other. Your b2 would eat that explorer alive in any situation. Your rig was set up for offroading, his was a pavement pounder. it's as simple as that.
@HahnsB2 Dude you're the one that needs to get a clue. You're trying to show how your off-road rig is better off-road than his pavement princess, well no shit Sherlock! You might as well be comparing your B2 against a Honda off-road. Every one of your messages to me has been trying to insult me in some way. Very childish of you. Seems that you're just realizing everything I say is right. B2 vs. Ex, B2 will win off-road every time.
@moparmurderer If you can't understand that the locker it's making all the difference here, you're beyond help. It has nothing to do with B2 vs EX, they're essentially the same vehicle. Now GTFO my channel, you typical shit-talker with no videos of your own.
@HahnsB2 See, there you go again trying to insult me. You're such a low-life piece of scum. You think you're cool because you post videos about your shitty bronco that you think is amazing because it has the cheapest ass piece of shit locker you could afford. I don't have any videos because I spend my time in the driver's seat having fun, not taping others having fun. GTFO your channel, you don't deserve to be here with me.
Get out the winch for the Ex, lol. I have a 92' Explorer sport that I am tricking out for stuff like this. Lock right is the way to go is you are on a budget and want to keep your rig street/highway friendly:-). Do you still have the stock TTB in the front on the Bronco?
@that70sguy1975 You can see in the video that it has the stock TTB. The TTB has gotten a bad rap, and, yes, they do eat tires on the road, but they are far better than the IFS in the Explorer for off-road! My XJ would have made it up that hill with ease before I put in the front locker, did the lift, and with 225/75R15 road tires on it. I go up hills like that in 2wd with my XJ all the time with a factory LSD in the rear and 255/70R15s; in 4wd w/ the front locker it would be easy.
Huh, must be a shitty LSD! I go up larger hills than that with my '96 XJ and all I have is a factory LSD and Michelin 235/75R15 LTX M/S2. If mine slips whatsoever, then it locks both tires; best damn LSD that I have ever had! I have seen too many of the Ford LSDs go to shit. I have an '84 f-150 with a bad LSD in an 8.8. It is going to get a Spartan when I get the money!
@kc8ntp There is no LSD that locks. I have a friend with an XJ on 31" BFG MTs and a rear LSD that struggles with this hill in 4wd. You can even find a video on my channel of my B2 spanking his XJ on a different hill. You cannot accurately judge an obstacle by video.
@HahnsB2 The trac-lock in my XJ will lock up, so to speak -- not literally. If both tires are on the ground and it is in a situation where both are slipping, then it will be close to a 50/50 split of power. The key is to have the right amount of LSD friction reducer: too much and it will act like an open diff; too little and it crunches going around corners. If one wheel comes off the ground I just have to click the parking brake a couple notches to make it send power to the one planted wheel.
@HahnsB2 You are right, however, it is very hard to judge an obstacle from a video. I have been to Moab many times (I only live 400-miles from there) and see some of the obstacles that I have been over, that were pretty difficult, look like gravy on a video.
I'm not running anything hardcore, but am installing a lock right locker in my '03 Marquis after my 1 wheel wonder left me spinning my tires on anything slippery.. :)
The only way this test would be accurate is if you swapped tires and locked and unlocked diffs on the SAME TRUCK. Explorers are BAD off-road. I always laugh when people say "See, my friends blahblahblah truck is better than my other friends blahblahblah truck. He had mudders and a locker and I didn't, plus his truck was etc etc etc." It's NOT accurate.
This is pretty close to accurate.. You can't unlock his locker. It's not selectable. It only unlocks when he turns a corner, but sometimes they still chatter while turning. I had lockrights front and rear and loved them. If the explorer would have modulated the brake pedal, or slightly held the brake while he was on the throttle he would have had a better shot. Still would have been tough, but better.
@welfaremother Locker on the explorer would make a huge difference. Or on anything else. I can go most places while still in 2wd with the rear locked.
locker front and back or just back? do your tires wear quickly? do the lockers make it hard on tight turns? are they loud at all? i really want to get a locker but i don't know if i should do front or back. thanks, nice vid btw!
You should not do a front locker if: You like to be able to steer in 4WD, and; You can physically unlock the front shafts.
Under power (foot on gas) the thing is a spool. Both tires travel at the same rotations making steering hard, and also increasing the chances of joint failure.
If you DO have a failure, having auto hubs will not allow U 2 drive.
Look into a front TrueTrac for a great, steerable traction device. Also great for the rear, if you don't need such an extreme, harsh set-up.
sometimes if you apply the brakes lightly when stuck and the wheels are spinning it will send more power to the spinning wheel kinda like doing a brake stand
Not a chance ... no limited slip. In fact, explorers are known to have completely open diffs. Unless you have a reason to think this guy as fitted it with a rear LSD.
Have you personally looked at the diff and door tag? It is a FACT it has a limited slip. And it is a FACT that they suck, I had one too before a locker that was the same way. Same with the jeep in my other video, LS rear.
Then it's probably a clutch type LSD. A common problem with this type of LSD is that the clutches wear out eventually, rendering the diff completely open. This is very common with JEEPs, which have cluth-type rear LSD. The reason is that the clutches are continuously engaged, so after like 60 to 100 thousand mile (depending on the viscosity of diff oil) they eventually wear out.
I have an '85. w/ a 3" lift and a Dana 35 in the front w/ EZ Lockers and an 8.8" in the rear and an Eaton Posi and 4.56's. Never have I ran into any problems. I love them broncos.
Seems you get pretty pissed off over people's comments. You're pathetic with your replies. Temper temper! But thats to be expected from someone that drives an exploder. Watch out for those sharp curves LOL!
I don't drive an explorer jackass. I can corner at nearly twice the posted speed for most corners in my Bronco, why do I need to corner any faster? It's not a Porsche. I'd love to see a video of the POS you drive, I'd be more than happy to go wheelin with you too and see which rig's a piece of shit. If you want to shit from your mouth do it somewhere else.
So you're the one with the poor man's bronco. Exploder, bronco, its still a piece of shit Ford nevertheless! I'd run it over with my 404 any day. Probably out corner it too! I've had two new Fords and they've both had MAJOR problems within the first few thousand miles. Never again! You can keep your Found on the road dead! And now you can buy a new one because they're practically giving them away. I hope they go out of business!
Believe me, I'm not the biggest ford fan ever, you couldn't pay me to own any of their diesels, nor do I like most of they're new cars. The older ranger based vehicles (includes B2s and Explorers) are very solid and reliable rigs. Father has a 89 2wd ranger with a 2.3, has done virtually zero repairs in 70,000 miles, had well over 200K on it when he got it, couldn't dream of better reliability. My rig has evolved since this video, it now rides on 34" swampers/is locked up front, plenty capable.
hey i liked the bronco 2 i have one my self it's a 84 with a 3in lift and rides on 33's i love it it out does every jeep that i have come acrossed so far and they had 6in lift and 35's bronco 2's rule.
@skypilot83 atleast he wheels and takes vids and invested in an actual locker. locker owns limited slip everywhere but on road take a physics class. not so whiney ass kid who wont do anything bad ass with daddys truck that "came with a rear limited slip so it must the best my dick sucking dad has it"

It's pretty obvious that the Explorer is not bottoming out, it's getting light when it hits the ruts off camber and lifting a wheel and spinning. Limited slips only work on the street, as soon as you lift a tire with one they start spinning like an open diff.
Isn't the point of a Limited-Slip Differential that when one wheel loses traction, the opposite wheel gets the torque? I don't see that happening with the Explorer in this video. Are you sure the diffs. are LS and not open? I have a '98 Explorer with open diffs. I think you need to get the towing package on the Explorer to get LSDs.
Yes I've confirmed it's a limited slip 3.73 by reading the door code. I used to have a limited slip and it behaved the same way, there is no mechanism that transfers power, just clutches, so once those clutches slip (which doesn't take much) it acts just like an open diff.

Lockers are like wheelchairs, some people need them, but its nice when you can get by without. ;p
Bronco II's will own Exploders all day. I watched a street tired BII run a mudhole that was stopping 1/2 ton chevs on 35's.
Of course, he did it by taking an EXTREMELY off camber line, but it worked, lol.
Now, drop the TP and apply the parking brake. ;)
