I miss this type of singing which I used to enjoy as a memer of of the old Greater Traveler's Rest MissionaryBaptist Church. The last of the great ministering and gospel singing when Rev. Shepherd knew how to relate to the congregation on their level like Jesus did in the Bible and welcomed in the Holy Spirit. He was the Father Figure of them all where you could feel the love. I know he is enjoying God's presence as this song is telling the story.
It is awesome how God works through cultures, lyrics, and renditions. This Gospel Song is based on the hymn, 'Uncloudy Day" "O They Tell Me of a Home"...to hear both versions with the same words (with slight changes) is WOW...The hymn version was written by a white hymnist and within the European tradition...but, when it enters the black Church culture it becomes purely Black Gospel...that's the history of most Gospel Songs... and we must thank God for speaking to the original lyricist.
i need all the christain freinds and subs please thank you i feel we can reach people if we be a freind to them with all meekness and kindness i am trying to do something good on youtube there are so many atheists please help me fight thank you
Chorus (Oh) Oh, they Tell me of a home Where my loved ones gone (Oh) Oh, they Tell me of a land Bright and fair So far away (Where) Where (the) the tree of life Sheds its fragrance through the air Oh they tell me of an uncloudy day
The first time I heard this song is when I was a kid growing up in NJ. The Liberated Gospel Choir of Rutgers University used to kill it. Esau Courtney III was the musician and Joe Lee was one of the directors in the early 80s. Thanks for the post.
My God! This song tears my contemporary church up.Just goes to show that Classics will never die. My pastor will request this song at least once a month and the entire mother board and the choir goes in!
all it needs is just a yesssssssssssssssss, yesssssssssssssssssssssssssssss, yesssssssssssssssssssssssss, yesssssssssssssssssssss, yessssssssssssssssssss, yes at the end lol
Myrna Summers recorded this song with the GMWA Mass Choir and tore up rehearsal as well as the Nightly Musical Services. Ms. Summers may have sang the song with other choirs; I don't know.

@MethodistPreacher Yes it is awesome. What shock me was when someone told me that Amazing Grace was written by a white slave owner.

Verse 1
Oh, they tell me of a home
Far beyond the skies
Oh, they tell me of a home
So far away
Yes, they tell me of a home
Where no storm clouds rise
Oh, they tell me
Yes, they tell me
Of an uncloudy day

Bridge:
Oh they tell me of a King in His beauty; beauty there
And they tell me that mine eyes
Shall behold where he sits on the throne
That is whiter than snow
In that city made of gold
Oh, they tell me of an uncloudy day
