The deficit hawks are overreacting. They see the massive debt, compare it to a personal financial situation, and conclude that the sky is falling. Thing is, a national economy is more complex than that. There are a lot of things they're not taking into account, and economists know this. National debt certainly CAN be a problem, yes...but we're not there yet.
