dude - I'm 24 and put 47k on a GL1200 1984 Aspencade in 2 years around Europe with nothing other than consumables and regular servicing. Any bike that is servioced well will do as many miles as you can throw it pretty much
I own a Valk, it's 100 times the bike a piece of shit harley is. I owned a Harley once and never again. Complete pile of junk. I was the only guy who had never ending problems during our cross Canada tour. My buddies on Jap bikes and BMW's just enjoyed the summer long trip. DON"T BUY HARLEY unless you like trash talk while broken down in the middle of nowhere. After spending 30,000 fuck'n dollars!!!
Ive owned Harleys and I have a Valkyrie. Valkyrie is bigger, faster, cheaper, smoother, stops better, turns better and more reliable. And that big ass six cylinder sticking out looks unlike any v-twin obviously.... But, it doesnt say Harley on it.
just bought a 1999 valkyrie tourer. it had a mere 25000 miles on it before my 1200 mile ride with the wife. since i ride every day over 190 miles round trip to and from work i want a bulletproof bike and only honda golds wings and the valkyrie fit the bill.
with that said i average 50,000 to 80,000 miles a year on bikes and i know of nobody with a harley who rides that many mile in that short of time. and i ride year round regardless of the weather.from the desert to the sea every day
It's funny how all these guys feel the need to compare their bikes to a Harley. Meanwhile, Japanese bike manufacturers are furiously trying to duplicate the Harley look and experience. LOL Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.
@pjsred Of course, if you realized the style is consumer driven, you would realize that the japanese are only making cruisers because that what most retards, like you, want.
your nickle trick is a good one but it aint taken nothen from harley sorry ..i like the valkyrie riden them alot but ya you cant beat the sound of the twin legend or the feel but to each his own if you know what i mean pal lol
I have a 1992 HD Heritage Softail, my next door neighbor bought a 900 Kaw Ninja. He wanted to race my Harley, I said OK, we'll race in July of 2010, know what his Ninja had long been in the grave yard. My Harleys still going strong after 75,000 miles and 19 years later. And guess what I can still get 90% of my money back for the purchase price of my bike. Can you say that about any other Make of bike, highly doubt it.
Take a Harley the same year as the valk, and keep them 25 years, lets see which one will bring more money when sold, lets do that with both bikes being just 2 years old. Granted the valk will ride better, but when you buy the valk, you better be prepared to take an ass kicking when it's time to sell or trade. The Harley will hold it's value far better. by the way, when was the last time you saw a running Honda thats 40 years old and driven on the street. I REST MY CASE
Isnt harley still candian own? Majority of the shares were bought up by private companies in canada. its hard to know anymore since harley has been bought and sold so many times.
Harley hasn't needed to update their technology for 60 years because there are enough faggot posers in leather that will buy a Harley to ride to and from the bar on saturday nights and TRAILER it to sturgis.
haha old man, your just like every other jap bike owner, have to compare your bike to a harley because you dont have one. Keep doing coin tricks in the parking lot and stay off the roads.
@rs20006 Sounds like a woman describing her vibrator. Motorcycling is about RIDING, and I'm not talking about just riding from one bar to another. Harleys are hurt by the 'riders' who appreciate their bikes sitting outside as they get gassed inside, then ride home. Hope the neighborhood supports your choice in exhaust pipes.
These bikes are truly a work of art. However, I do find it funny how Harley owners are on here bragging about their bikes having 43k miles on them. My 97 Valk has ONLY 50k miles on it...and that's in Minnesota, where we maybe have 6 months riding time a year.
nice bike. this engine, in that bike..is bigger than the four cyl boxer in my ten geared 2750 pound AWD limited slip subaru..and I let it sit around at over 3100 pounds with tools (it did need welding)..and it is still not a slow poke... to give an idea what the bike frame is holding in. Bike must be a legend out loud. At $26k it ought to be.Sweet ride.
Huh, if I had a nickle for every time I heard some dumb ass rice burner rider make a comment about the harley................ Line it up next to mine and see what you say.
@StreetGlideBad103 .LOL ..Ive never seen a Valk lose to any Street Glide...even your $30K CVO. Lifestyle marketing. Valks all made in USA also, research before posting.
@pigs3diff1s1977 My brother runs a CVO Road King with a modified 110 screamin eagle. Smoke him in every gear. This Street Glide red lines at 7000 rpm and I can do 120 mph in fourth. Bring on the Rice burner. I do not care if it is manufactured in the US the profits still go to Japan. Speed is money how fast do you want to go. I wanted to go $7000.00 faster and it feels good.
@StreetGlideBad103 My riding buddy's ZX-10 tops out at 175 and does 1/4's in the 9's, he bought it for 6k. So if speed is money then your glide should be three times as fast? Only a matter of time before HD is bought by a foreign interest anyway like Ducati or Honda. Look at what they did with MV and Buell. Mismanagement from the top on down.
@StreetGlideBad103 A Harley is the world's best selling motorized wheelchair for hippies and wannabes, and for those who would rather buy an reputation than earn one. As the world passed Harley Davidson by, Harley just kept on beating out the same old tired, uninventive, unimaginative designs year after year like their pappy had done before them, and their grandpappy had done before that.
@catsnowball Can you say VRod or have you even checked out the 110 ci Screamin Eagles in the CVO line up. Guess when you got something good you stick with it. You are the same as the rest that talk shit about the Harley, you can't poney up the $30 grand to get one so you just talk shit and dream about having a real motorcycle.
@StreetGlideBad103 30 grand only gets you a regular Ultra. Add new paint and a little bigger motor and you get the CVO for ONLY 20 grand more. What kind of fool pays 50 grand for a dinosaur??? Harley should put that 110 in every bike as standard equipment, not charge 20 grand more for it. The roar of a Harley is really just the growling of a sheep in wolf's clothing, and the bleating of the image driven lemmings that ride them.
@StreetGlideBad103 I ride a 2000 GL1500 Goldwing. And I RIDE it. Not just to local tavern and back. in reality, this year's 'new' HD model has the gas tank from three years ago, the forks from fifty years ago, wheels from five years ago etc. The only thing on that bike you just bought that probably is brand new is the price tag and the rubber it rolls on. Everything else came out of parts bins somewhere in Milwaukee. I don't think that we've seen any innovation from Milwaukee for 60 years now.
@catsnowball Now that is funny my brother in law had a 25th anv. Wing and he talked shit about the Harley just like you. Then he got a real job in Colorado and he has tradded up to a CVO Harley. All it took was riding 2000 miles way behind me and my brother on our harley. Both are 2008s mine is a Steet Glide that I have just over $30 K in and my brothers is a 105th anv CVO Road King the 1800 GW could not hang with us and it burned more fuel. Both our bikes have over 20K miles on them now.
@StreetGlideBad103 You actually think a 1500 OR 1800 Wing cant hang with a CVO?? You been into the crack to much Bro. If your brother was way behind you on his Wing, its because he was scared either a piece is going to fall off the Harleys ahead and cause him to wreck, or he'll slide in a patch of oil that the Harley leaked onto the road ahead of him.Harley's even use Japanese carburetors on their bikes! Why is that!? Because Japan does it better and has for a long time.
@catsnowball There you go again showing how much you know. Harley's are Fuel Injected have been since 2005. And yes it is a fact the Wing cannot hang with us. The wing would do 120 mph and that was it. A stock Harley will do 118 mph. Both mine and my brother's are modified with super tuners and smoke hime with no problem. And my wifes stock 1200 sportster with her on it will smoke all three of us. HP to weight is the key there. The wing is a great touring bike, big heavy and slow.
@StreetGlideBad103 Harleys have been fuel injected since 2005?? Buddy, the Wing was fuel injected way back in 1985. Harley missed the boat by only 20 years. This isnt about speed, but lets have a look there. 1200 Sportster 1/4 mile@13.54. Electra Glide Ultra 1/4 mile@15.20. Wow, thats pretty quick eh?? Road King 1/4 mile@13.94. CVO Fatboy 1/4 mile@1274. Honda Valkrye 1/4 @mile 12.02. Wow, quicker than a CVO. Hmmmm. Honda 1500 Goldwing..13.22. Honda 1800..12.71.. These are the facts!!!
@StreetGlideBad103 Ya, I pulled those # out of thin air. Right. Those # are all over the Web. Do some research. If Japan, Italy, and Germany did product development the same way that Harley Davidson does, there wouldn't be Honda, Ducati, or BMW bikes. There wouldn't be Okasma TV's, VCRs, DVD's, mini-TVs, or Sony Walkmans. We'd all still be listening to wind up phonographs and watching black and white TV through vacuum tubes.
@catsnowball Such an angry person. Maybe you should look at drag times web site where there are registered runs and you would see that they all run about the same. Low 13s in the 1/4. Japan was rebuilt buy the US after their distruction. With the Ford manufacturing plan. HMMM Great to live in the USA where we are free.
@StreetGlideBad103 Angry?? Im not angry. Im going on FACTS. Harley and Milwaukee are stuck in a time warp. They are building motorcycles like it was 1940 all over again. If NASA were in the same technology rut that Harley Davidson is in, Neil Armstrong would have gone to the moon launched from the world's biggest slingshot.Harley makes more money on T-shirts and HD embossed leather wallets on a chain than from selling motorcycles.
@catsnowball Harley is in their 106th year of operation, Honda has what 28 years with the Wing and the Valk is gone. As for using parts from Japan and China, you are fool if you think they are better, they are CHEAPER and that is the only reason both of them use these parts. I drive a Toyota and it is as big a piece of shit as the rest of the auto makes. It all comes down to money. I like to be on my Harley and NEVER see another on like it. Never will be, it is my custom creation. Ride safe.
@StreetGlideBad103 Actually the Wing has been around for 33 years. Japan does what it does best. They take American dog shit and turn it into diamonds. They have done it with TV's Cameras , Cars and Bikes.. HD's profits fell 71% in the first quater of 2010. They ran to Washington for a huge handout just to stay in business. I dont recall any Jap manufacturers there looking for a handout. Young people arent buying into the Harley image crap. Average HD rider is 45-55 yrs old.
@catsnowball I'll still take the Harley, because if I get tired of riding it after 40 years the harley will be worth more than any jap bike of the same year. I bought my Heritage Softail in 1992 for $10,500, today it's still worth 95% of the money I paid for it, btw, it's got over 143,000 miles on it, Know what riding a jap bike and screwing a fat girl has in common?, they are both fun to ride until your friends see you.
Got a Valkyrie myself best bike ever built in my opinion. But lets not put down Harley Davidson you have the tradition, pride of ownership socially its off the chain and the mystique of a harley there is something about riding them thats pretty cool. Would i own a Harley? Hell Yes!! the new fatbob is great I want one. But having said that theres no way I will ever get rid of my valk that stays.
@ThePleasanthill, completely agree about the Valk but HD tradition? Tradition of what? My old man used to ride them in the '50s and he says they were crap bikes back then and are, save for the V-rod, still crap. In my experience, whatever HD mystique exist is lost on people actually know about bikes, many HD owners included. I've run across plenty of former owners who simply got tired of the crappy build quality and were more than happy to go to better built and performing metric bike.
Lots of nickels to spare when you never have to fix it, unlike some other, loud annoying bikes with 2 cylinders that leak lots of oil and are belt driven. Know what I'm talking about? $30,000 bikes that are drunken idiots trailer around?
@mokeyman3 That might just sell. HD's are just like Ford's high production low quality. If they ain't leaking oil its one of three things. Either its brand new, just rebuilt, or out of oil.
Sorry Sludge.. but you can keep the crotch rocket. A Valk has plenty of power and rides great. Lets see who enjoys a 250 mile ride at the end of the day. Nothing personal, but you couldn't give me a crotch rocket.
@cbritt84 Sorry, but while reviewing a recent comment I saw yours. I dont want a crotch rocket. I love my valk. I, weighing 270lbs on my blown (supercharged) valk, can take a 650, 750 crotch rocket... even some 900s... That was my point...
The Valkyrie Rune had the 1830cc goldwing motor on it. The regular Valkyries had the 1520cc engine on them. Neither bike stock could take a 650 crotch rocket. However, a blown valk is a whole different animal and will take most of the crotch rockets under a liter.
Almost the same, in any case, it's more than I really needed to go to the store and back. Most people either love the looks or they hate it. Had to go to aftermarket (Corbin) to get passenger seat. My daughter loves ridin' with me. It is a shame they stopped making them, but it;s a real gas to have a limited production bike. Best thing I ever bought.
Ohh man thats cool but I couldnt ride a bike without feeling any vibration. Somebody likes it somebody does not. When I ride my bike I have to feel its engine!
You get to feel the engine in a Valk... when you twist the throttle :) That rearward acceleration pressure that you don't get on a HD ;) Except a V-Rod. I give em credit where its due. The V is a nice bike.
harleys arent made in america! they are 'made' in china, mexico, canada, etc.... then they put the wheels on and the tank on them in america and call them ''american''
The Valk is 'made' in america, the whole plant is in america!
For the record I have a 1997 Softail which does NOT leak oil,DOES go fast,is of IMPECCABLE quality, and all this with over 43,000 trouble free miles on her. I also have a 1969 Sporster which has never let me down in the 24 years I've owned her. How many of you Jap lovers have owned the same bike for 24 years OR have logged 43,000 miles on a motorcycle???.......I didn't think so. Ride safe whatever you ride.
Partner, Im sure you have some nice bikes, and im glad you like em and have broken at least one in. For your education on Valks I would suggest you take a trip to Johnson City, TN to an event called "Inzane" Aug 31st I think. At any rate, you will get to see a hundred or more Valks there and I would encourage you to walk around and look at the odometers. 43k is just nicely broken in for a valk engine. Ive seen em with over 200k with out a rebuild. I havent ever seen a HD go that far. Ride safe.
@surrynet Not that far apart it seems. On ebay today, the bikes that actually have bids. 97 Soft tail bids (2) are in the 6000 to 6900 range. One 97 Valk on there with a bid and its running 5300. Now the reserves arent met on any of the HDs and there are many with NO bids. So, the sellers are a little out of touch with the real market value. Will the HD sell for more? Probably. Much more? Probably not. Take new price and subtract sell price used and who wins & the Valk depreciates less.
@surrynet now that said, the Valk is kinda the exception to the rule. Your right that in most cases the difference will be pretty big. I think because the Valk wasnt so common, is pretty powerful for a cruiser even by today's standards, over time has proven its self so bullet proof, is out of production with a very loyal following.... all that helps keep its price elevated above other metric cruisers this far down the road.
First thing first, Call it what you like, but the Valk was 100% made in USA in Ohio. Sorry you can not say that about the HD. Next..You will need to do your homework on the mileage thing. Valks and Gwings are good for OVER 300,000. Miles.
There pistons are not available, after market, because YOU WILL NOT NEED NEW ONES.
Valkyrie >>>>>> Any Harley Davidson, you don't need to be discussing it man HUahUahUA... my friend's father just sold his 'Road King' by Harley, and bought 'THE' Valkyrie... man... the difference is absurd... Valkyrie best Custom ever
Did you really just ask about doing more than 43k on a rice burner? Ever heard of a goldwing? I have a 1980 CB900c and 74 CB350F with over 100k between them, but hey, ride whatever makes you happy
@hayadoooon 43,000 miles???? I do that in ONE year on my 1500SE Wing. Its just broken in!!! I put 220,000 on my 87 GL1200 Wing before I sold it and only ever changed the oil and plugs. With a Hardly Ableson, you would have to rebuild 3 or 4 times to get that kind of mileage. You paid a butt-load of money for the world's worst accelerating, worst handling, worst braking, heaviest, loudest, and ugliest motorcycle. How smart does that make you feel right now?
@hayadoooon Hey! My dad has owned his 1981 Suzuki GS1000L for 30 years now!!!! He got the bike when he was seventeen years old, and he's the first owner too! Now im seventeen and i ride it.... and the only reason he lets me is because he just bought a brand new Harley-Davidson Heritage Softail Classic. Two wheels are the way to go!!!!

Hey "proeugenics" and all you other Jap loving jerk-offs,ride what you want because judging by the poor grammar and misspelled words in these responses I figure your high school drop-out income level wouldn't allow you to afford a Harley ANYWAY. The moral of this story kids is,KNOW what you're talking about BEFORE you open your uneducated mouth, and stay in school so someday you can get a good job and afford to buy a real motorcycle....or two.
wow guys this bike way nicer than any stupid harley as a few other have said harleys break down all the time. my dads got that bike at it sounds beefy but not superloud.

Hey, wnat do you know another Jap riding jerk off who tries to justify his choice to buy a no class P.O.S. by knocking the very bike (Harley) we all know he wishes he had the stones to own. Hang on to that nickle dufus because in a couple of years that Vallery or Valley or whatever you call it won't be worth sh#t. You sir are a moron.

Who gives a rats ass about your sewing machine shit bike. Harley Has Sole, That piece of shit doesn't. Such a great bike, they don't even make them anymore. Honda must of thought the same thing, since they make nothing but FAKE Harley's now.
I bought my Harley to ride, not to act like a weenie cocksucker on a rice burner.
@CaptRon1913 Milwaukee churns out the same tired old designs every year, a piece of this model, a piece of that model, change the tank, paint it black, add forty pounds of chrome and three grand to the price and give it a name like American Historical Limited Edition Super Extra Easy Wide Glide FGXLHR or something equally incoherent and viola!
Maan the only trouble with valkirie is :I cant buy it here (it is very hard to buy one in Russia)! but all i can say about japan bikes - they are very relyable and tough made! I cant say that about harleys they are practicaly on the same level as ural bikes but costs much more than Ural!
I see so many Harleys being trailered...that is the best way to move a Harley from point A to point B. My friends Harley has been in the shop for 7 weeks. They are still waiting on parts and whatnot.
To shareholders, duh, just like every other publicly traded company in the world. They were designed, and built with American hands by American Honda. Profits are not "shipped" off to another country. Profits go to shareholders around the world, most of which are in American hands and holdings. Don't be a fool.
sounds like something someone would say if they could not afford one.... i love my harley.. maybe you could have one too if you bought an american made machine!!!!
You will never find extra parts in the saddle bags of my valkyrie how about your harleys, hey dont forget to pack that extra clutch before you leave home.
Well i will always take the Honda over the Harley . Harleys are all flash , and Hondas are all substance . My honda has never let me down ,, not once .
Neither has my Harley, not ever. I could careless what people ride. I just love what I ride and thats a harley. I look at all kinds of motorcycles and never put them down so ride your Honda or whatever you want. I'll take my Harley over Honda but WHO CARES just ride.
I just did this on my Harley, does anyone have another nickle? I can't find mine... BUT dont you all wonder why when you tell a girl you have a motorcycle, the first thing she says is.."Is it a Harley?" Ive never once been asked if it was a Honda... hmmm?
I like the Harleys, but I dont esp want to own one. Now, as for the women... well, perhaps I should slow my Supercharged Valk down so they could see something other than a black & chrome blurr as I go by. Im often mistaken for a UFO :)
Seriously, Harley Davidson. Absolutely the best brand management of any company on the planet.
There is nothing to be excited about. This is not about honda enginering (which I don't deny is good). Low vibrations are just typical for 6-cylinder boxer engine, in oposite to v-engine which tremble a lot, and many riders love that trembling. You can't just say what is better, it is about personal choice. If it was about low vibrations, then all producers would still put Wankel engine in their bikes, which is unbeatable at the ground of low vibrations, and could make your boxer engine blush ;)
well bt see hondaz and harleyz are apart they are miles away wid technology whr harley is still livin wid the old pushrod technology honda r thinking of coming up wid electronic or magnetised valve drive train!hondaz are supertuned super engineerd and smoothly crafted whr american muscles meanz power and nothing elz!harley vrod is also good bt nowhr near honda!enjoy the sweet tune!!!!!lng live honda engineZ!
Interesting- will try this on mine when I get home. Won't bother trying it on my Harley though! Guess which one I use for touring Europe on?!? Have owned loads of bikes and several Harleys inc. Roadglide and the Valk' beats them all by a mile. I used to be a 'Harley only' man but not anymore!
My wife's 2008 Harley Davidson Twin Cam 96B will allow a nickel to stand up on the engine block when I start it. I have posted the video. And the nice thing, is her says "Potato, Potato, Potato" and doesn't sound like a Honda. Enjoy!
Saw your video. The nickel test is start, rev and stop the motor. You never rev'd the engine. But the fact that it stayed on edge during start and stop was impressive for a V-Twin.
I have the exact same model bike. Every time I start riding with a new group of guys I get a free diner from somebody using the trick. I have heard every excuse from trick nickels to magnets. Harley guys then tell me the bike has no soul, I tell them it has plenty of soul and it hasn't leaked out on the floor of my garage.
Nice demonstration of Honda's engineering supremacy. When showing my Valkyrie to others, I include this demonstration. Everyone is impressed. Thanks for video!
have you done the demonstration for your friends ?....i didn't believe it until i saw it with my own eyes..although the guy in the video has been a very good friend of mine for about 20 sometime years.....i still doubted him...but now am convinced.the video is the proof !!!
Mokeyman3-I keep a nickel on my bike at all times for demonstration purposes. I warn the Harley boys not to try this on their bikes before wearing safety glasses. That nickel can become a lethal projectile. I think maybe I too should be trying to score a few free meals also! As soon as I obtain my own video recorder, I will post too. Thanks again for all the good times I have had with this trick!

These bikes are truly a work of art. However, I do find it funny how Harley owners are on here bragging about their bikes having 43k miles on them. My 97 Valk has ONLY 50k miles on it...and that's in Minnesota, where we maybe have 6 months riding time a year.
sckeim 1 year ago
nice bike. this engine, in that bike..is bigger than the four cyl boxer in my ten geared 2750 pound AWD limited slip subaru..and I let it sit around at over 3100 pounds with tools (it did need welding)..and it is still not a slow poke... to give an idea what the bike frame is holding in. Bike must be a legend out loud. At $26k it ought to be.Sweet ride.

Huh, if I had a nickle for every time I heard some dumb ass rice burner rider make a comment about the harley................ Line it up next to mine and see what you say.
StreetGlideBad103 1 year ago
@StreetGlideBad103 .LOL ..Ive never seen a Valk lose to any Street Glide...even your $30K CVO. Lifestyle marketing. Valks all made in USA also, research before posting.
pigs3diff1s1977 1 year ago
@pigs3diff1s1977 My brother runs a CVO Road King with a modified 110 screamin eagle. Smoke him in every gear. This Street Glide red lines at 7000 rpm and I can do 120 mph in fourth. Bring on the Rice burner. I do not care if it is manufactured in the US the profits still go to Japan. Speed is money how fast do you want to go. I wanted to go $7000.00 faster and it feels good.
StreetGlideBad103 1 year ago
@StreetGlideBad103 My riding buddy's ZX-10 tops out at 175 and does 1/4's in the 9's, he bought it for 6k. So if speed is money then your glide should be three times as fast? Only a matter of time before HD is bought by a foreign interest anyway like Ducati or Honda. Look at what they did with MV and Buell. Mismanagement from the top on down.
pigs3diff1s1977 1 year ago
@StreetGlideBad103 Are you really suggesting a race of some sort? I hope you'll put a few bucks on it.
jmshaw357 1 year ago
@StreetGlideBad103 A Harley is the world's best selling motorized wheelchair for hippies and wannabes, and for those who would rather buy an reputation than earn one. As the world passed Harley Davidson by, Harley just kept on beating out the same old tired, uninventive, unimaginative designs year after year like their pappy had done before them, and their grandpappy had done before that.
catsnowball 1 year ago 2
@catsnowball Can you say VRod or have you even checked out the 110 ci Screamin Eagles in the CVO line up. Guess when you got something good you stick with it. You are the same as the rest that talk shit about the Harley, you can't poney up the $30 grand to get one so you just talk shit and dream about having a real motorcycle.
StreetGlideBad103 1 year ago
@StreetGlideBad103 30 grand only gets you a regular Ultra. Add new paint and a little bigger motor and you get the CVO for ONLY 20 grand more. What kind of fool pays 50 grand for a dinosaur??? Harley should put that 110 in every bike as standard equipment, not charge 20 grand more for it. The roar of a Harley is really just the growling of a sheep in wolf's clothing, and the bleating of the image driven lemmings that ride them.
catsnowball 1 year ago
@catsnowball And you ride a???????????????
StreetGlideBad103 1 year ago
@StreetGlideBad103 I ride a 2000 GL1500 Goldwing. And I RIDE it. Not just to local tavern and back. in reality, this year's 'new' HD model has the gas tank from three years ago, the forks from fifty years ago, wheels from five years ago etc. The only thing on that bike you just bought that probably is brand new is the price tag and the rubber it rolls on. Everything else came out of parts bins somewhere in Milwaukee. I don't think that we've seen any innovation from Milwaukee for 60 years now.
catsnowball 1 year ago
@catsnowball Now that is funny my brother in law had a 25th anv. Wing and he talked shit about the Harley just like you. Then he got a real job in Colorado and he has tradded up to a CVO Harley. All it took was riding 2000 miles way behind me and my brother on our harley. Both are 2008s mine is a Steet Glide that I have just over $30 K in and my brothers is a 105th anv CVO Road King the 1800 GW could not hang with us and it burned more fuel. Both our bikes have over 20K miles on them now.
StreetGlideBad103 1 year ago
@StreetGlideBad103 You actually think a 1500 OR 1800 Wing cant hang with a CVO?? You been into the crack to much Bro. If your brother was way behind you on his Wing, its because he was scared either a piece is going to fall off the Harleys ahead and cause him to wreck, or he'll slide in a patch of oil that the Harley leaked onto the road ahead of him.Harley's even use Japanese carburetors on their bikes! Why is that!? Because Japan does it better and has for a long time.
catsnowball 1 year ago
@catsnowball There you go again showing how much you know. Harley's are Fuel Injected have been since 2005. And yes it is a fact the Wing cannot hang with us. The wing would do 120 mph and that was it. A stock Harley will do 118 mph. Both mine and my brother's are modified with super tuners and smoke hime with no problem. And my wifes stock 1200 sportster with her on it will smoke all three of us. HP to weight is the key there. The wing is a great touring bike, big heavy and slow.
StreetGlideBad103 1 year ago
These are the facts!!!
catsnowball 1 year ago
@catsnowball Facts pulled right out of your Canadian ass I suspect!
StreetGlideBad103 1 year ago
@StreetGlideBad103 Ya, I pulled those # out of thin air. Right. Those # are all over the Web. Do some research. If Japan, Italy, and Germany did product development the same way that Harley Davidson does, there wouldn't be Honda, Ducati, or BMW bikes. There wouldn't be Okasma TV's, VCRs, DVD's, mini-TVs, or Sony Walkmans. We'd all still be listening to wind up phonographs and watching black and white TV through vacuum tubes.
catsnowball 1 year ago
@catsnowball Such an angry person. Maybe you should look at drag times web site where there are registered runs and you would see that they all run about the same. Low 13s in the 1/4. Japan was rebuilt buy the US after their distruction. With the Ford manufacturing plan. HMMM Great to live in the USA where we are free.
StreetGlideBad103 1 year ago
@StreetGlideBad103 Angry?? Im not angry. Im going on FACTS. Harley and Milwaukee are stuck in a time warp. They are building motorcycles like it was 1940 all over again. If NASA were in the same technology rut that Harley Davidson is in, Neil Armstrong would have gone to the moon launched from the world's biggest slingshot.Harley makes more money on T-shirts and HD embossed leather wallets on a chain than from selling motorcycles.
catsnowball 1 year ago 2
@catsnowball Harley is in their 106th year of operation, Honda has what 28 years with the Wing and the Valk is gone. As for using parts from Japan and China, you are fool if you think they are better, they are CHEAPER and that is the only reason both of them use these parts. I drive a Toyota and it is as big a piece of shit as the rest of the auto makes. It all comes down to money. I like to be on my Harley and NEVER see another on like it. Never will be, it is my custom creation. Ride safe.
StreetGlideBad103 1 year ago
@StreetGlideBad103 Actually the Wing has been around for 33 years. Japan does what it does best. They take American dog shit and turn it into diamonds. They have done it with TV's Cameras , Cars and Bikes.. HD's profits fell 71% in the first quater of 2010. They ran to Washington for a huge handout just to stay in business. I dont recall any Jap manufacturers there looking for a handout. Young people arent buying into the Harley image crap. Average HD rider is 45-55 yrs old.
catsnowball 1 year ago
@catsnowball I'll still take the Harley, because if I get tired of riding it after 40 years the harley will be worth more than any jap bike of the same year. I bought my Heritage Softail in 1992 for $10,500, today it's still worth 95% of the money I paid for it, btw, it's got over 143,000 miles on it, Know what riding a jap bike and screwing a fat girl has in common?, they are both fun to ride until your friends see you.
surrynet 11 months ago
Got a Valkyrie myself best bike ever built in my opinion. But lets not put down Harley Davidson you have the tradition, pride of ownership socially its off the chain and the mystique of a harley there is something about riding them thats pretty cool. Would i own a Harley? Hell Yes!! the new fatbob is great I want one. But having said that theres no way I will ever get rid of my valk that stays.
ThePleasanthill 1 year ago

@mokeyman3
been working on a idea........ a fake, rubber, oil slick,
something you can carry in your saddle bags, that way when you are parked
alongside any harleys ....you can put it under your bike, to fit in.
mokeyman3 1 year ago 5
@mokeyman3 That might just sell. HD's are just like Ford's high production low quality. If they ain't leaking oil its one of three things. Either its brand new, just rebuilt, or out of oil.

@cbritt84 Sorry, but while reviewing a recent comment I saw yours. I dont want a crotch rocket. I love my valk. I, weighing 270lbs on my blown (supercharged) valk, can take a 650, 750 crotch rocket... even some 900s... That was my point...

some did have the 1800 cc engine as others had the 1400cc which both are very fast, a 650 suzuki crotch rocket couldnt keep up with it hands down
charg2456 2 years ago

Best thing I ever bought.

harleys arent made in america! they are 'made' in china, mexico, canada, etc.... then they put the wheels on and the tank on them in america and call them ''american''
The Valk is 'made' in america, the whole plant is in america!
ibuiltmineo1oo 3 years ago 2
And that plant is closing its doors to MC's...
I ride a Valk and they're a great bike but the Harley beat them -in marketing at least- fair and square.
That's why Honda makes the VTX's. Give the people the vibration they want.

Ride safe whatever you ride.
hayadoooon 3 years ago
Partner, Im sure you have some nice bikes, and im glad you like em and have broken at least one in. For your education on Valks I would suggest you take a trip to Johnson City, TN to an event called "Inzane" Aug 31st I think. At any rate, you will get to see a hundred or more Valks there and I would encourage you to walk around and look at the odometers. 43k is just nicely broken in for a valk engine. Ive seen em with over 200k with out a rebuild. I havent ever seen a HD go that far. Ride safe.
SludgeSlinger 3 years ago 14
@SludgeSlinger whats the resale value on a 1997 valk, compared to the resale of a 1997 Heritage Softail, bet the Harley will bring more, RIDE SAFE
surrynet 11 months ago
@surrynet Not that far apart it seems. On ebay today, the bikes that actually have bids. 97 Soft tail bids (2) are in the 6000 to 6900 range. One 97 Valk on there with a bid and its running 5300. Now the reserves arent met on any of the HDs and there are many with NO bids. So, the sellers are a little out of touch with the real market value. Will the HD sell for more? Probably. Much more? Probably not. Take new price and subtract sell price used and who wins & the Valk depreciates less.
SludgeSlinger 11 months ago
Comment removed
SludgeSlinger 11 months ago
@surrynet now that said, the Valk is kinda the exception to the rule. Your right that in most cases the difference will be pretty big. I think because the Valk wasnt so common, is pretty powerful for a cruiser even by today's standards, over time has proven its self so bullet proof, is out of production with a very loyal following.... all that helps keep its price elevated above other metric cruisers this far down the road.
SludgeSlinger 11 months ago
@SludgeSlinger ; Partner, you're up, your words ... .. so we talk fantastic!
aiwarildaranzon 10 months ago
I think you better go back and rethink....

Did you really just ask about doing more than 43k on a rice burner? Ever heard of a goldwing? I have a 1980 CB900c and 74 CB350F with over 100k between them, but hey, ride whatever makes you happy
monkeysocks2 3 years ago
@hayadoooon 43,000 miles???? I do that in ONE year on my 1500SE Wing. Its just broken in!!! I put 220,000 on my 87 GL1200 Wing before I sold it and only ever changed the oil and plugs. With a Hardly Ableson, you would have to rebuild 3 or 4 times to get that kind of mileage. You paid a butt-load of money for the world's worst accelerating, worst handling, worst braking, heaviest, loudest, and ugliest motorcycle. How smart does that make you feel right now?

SludgeSlinger 4 years ago 2
There is nothing to be excited about. This is not about honda enginering (which I don't deny is good). Low vibrations are just typical for 6-cylinder boxer engine, in oposite to v-engine which tremble a lot, and many riders love that trembling. You can't just say what is better, it is about personal choice. If it was about low vibrations, then all producers would still put Wankel engine in their bikes, which is unbeatable at the ground of low vibrations, and could make your boxer engine blush ;)
