The best way to turn this happening into a positive situation is to take pledges for each minute the protestors stand there and donate the money to a charitable cause they stand against.

4 students died in one week early April at Stout, 3 died in a house fire and the WBC came to glorify their deaths and "thank god 3 more dead students, god sent the fires.." The way I understand their argument is this:
God controls everything that happens. God has given people rules in the Bible, God punishes the world when people don't follow his rules with fire and earthquakes and floods and defeat in battle. People aren't following his rules. Ergo he is punishing us.
They picket military funerals because they see them as a form of idolatry.

I think people severely misinterpret everything free speech enables. Basically, you are free to say whatever you want as long as it doesn't infringe on the rights of others. I'm pretty sure that these people are guilty of libel and slander (and the court of law agrees with me) and that's why they owe several million to a man who's son was killed by an IED. These horrible people picketed the funeral (among other soldiers). It's one thing to be anti-war. It's quite another to celebrate their death

I think it's a good thing they get what the Bible really says out in the open. Then perhaps people will be forced to confront what they really believe in and question why they do.
Although lots of Christians aren't as extreme as these guys, most hold a watered-down version of it regarding homosexuals as people who need to be "helped" not to "sin", etc.

It's sad that people resort to this, on both sides. Violence and hatred will never change anyone's side, you will only end up with the people that agreed with you in the first place, no more. I support gay marriages, but it is despicable what the protesters were screaming. You don't resort to those tactics, because then you have sunk lower than WBC, because at least they had reached that level first. I'm surprised they were much more composed than the other side, actually.

The point is that the WBC is spot on. They are right that the Bible says quite clearly that God hates homosexuals and people who commit adultery and so on. He destroys entire cities because of it. He tells people to stone women to death.
I'm not saying I believe it or agree with it, but they are simply saying what is in the Old Testament and people seem to hate them for it. It's kind of strange. Surely they should be angry with the Bible if they don't like what they're saying.

These nutjobs are headed to a high school in my hometown next week to protest the deaths of 4 cheerleaders killed in a car accident. Our county has some unwritten rules (example: people in our justice system kill each other) so it's not a place they were wise to threaten. I'm coming in to help my community counter-protest. These people are just too much. I can't explain them in any word other than wrong. When they people stop in from OZ they'll realize they aren't in Kansas anymore.

For those that dont know what happened:
4 students died in one week early April at Stout, 3 died in a house fire and the WBC came to glorify their deaths and "thank god 3 more dead students, god sent the fires.." Stout only has 8000 some students, and 1000+ showed up to counterprotest for the fellow students we lost and got them to leave earlier than planned. Even though the WBC shoould be ,you got to admit that stout standing up to them is pretty cool.
